Please I wonder if I can knit a kid's hat with this pattern to get a warm hat because I live in a very cold region?
Hello, Im a first timer knitter. Loving this look. And trying to knit a scarf. Hvae done 5 rows and notice my edges is lose ! What do i do weong and how to fix it?
I tried this three times, it DID NOT WORK, and thought I was being punked. It created a double GARTER, not a double stockinette. I think what is missing from the instructions is that once you are past the first row, you have to SLIP THE KNITS AND KNIT THE SLIPS. "And we start again!" does not convey this at all. Incredibly frustrated and annoyed at this video.
I'm a beginner knitter and really loved how this stitch looked but I was so confused when you said to cast on multiples of 2. I thought it was a special way of casting on but I just figured out that you have to cast on an even number of stitches. The rest of the video is so simple to follow that I started as soon as I figured out how to cast on multiples of 2. Thank you so much for this video! Love it!
Thank you so much for this comment! I am too a beginner knitter and I did not understand what does cast on multiples of 2 means until this comment pop up thank you so much
I'm glad I read your comment ☺️
Multiple of 2 mean you cast on stitches that can be divided by 2. If that makes sense. 2,4,6,8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and etc.
So glad I found your comment! I was wondering the same !
I have this weird obsession with the stockinette stitch so this is great
+Weeb Ha, love it!!! 💗
For the double stockinette stitch, you said that you cast on a multiple of 2's. On the last stitch, I end up with a slip stitch. Is that the way this goes-a number of 2+1?
Same
@@denisecooper4011 watch the video again. That should answer your question. 🙂
To those asking about the bind-off, you can bind off "in pattern"... just pretend you're working the next row, alternating knits with slips. For the last stitch on your needle, which would normally be slipped in pattern, knit it instead so you can pull the end through the loop to secure it.
froggy doodle Thank you
@Froggy Doodle - For clarification, when binding off can write it in pattern format?
This is what I’m thinking you are saying:
RS: K1, S1
WS: S1, K1 or K1,S1 (*knit last stitch.)
"Knit, forward, as if to purl, back. Knit, forward, as if to purl, back."
My cat's been watching with great interest, inspecting the quality of my work. I lost my job in the pandemic, and as my mom has cancer, I couldn't get another one in my area, so I began actually selling (or trying to sell) my work. This will be a nice change of pace, since I usually do a basic garter stitch! Awesome tutorial!
Where can we buy your work? I'd love to support!
Omg. This was the easiest explanation of this stitch I found on RUclips and with a very well shown demonstration! Thank you so much💜my scarf project will be amazing now 🎉
Oooh, yes it will be amazing... and so cozy. Happy knitting to you, Sofia!
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for. It's been such a cold winter and wool scarves are so expensive, so I decided to learn how to knit which has been a complete nightmare. I love the stockinette look, but wanted it on both sides, and for the scarf not to fold in. I've now started on my scarf and it's looking really nice to far thanks to this video
This is so easy! 😱 I was always so intimidated to try it out because something so pretty must be difficult, but I was (very gladly) proven wrong 😂 Thank you once again, Kristen, for your lovely tutorials
So sweet, happy it’s helpful to you. 💖
This is just brilliant. What a perfect stitch for Fall projects like scarves, hats and slippers. Thank you so much for this!
Glad you like it!
Wow this is amazing! Saves me the frustration for the traditional stockinette.
+TinaOnEarth Wonderful! So happy my knitting video is helpful to you!!! 💗
My husband wants me to make his scarf 'smooth on both sides'. Thank you so much for showing me how. Happy hubby = happy wifey!
Thank you out of all the videos I watched to do this stich you are the only one who actually shows us how to do it correctly 😜
This is so awesome! I've always wanted to make neat stitches in both sides!
Yay!!!! It is so cool... and no purling!
I love how you make sure to clarify everything, sometimes I don't knit for a while and forget how to purl, so thank you for going slow.
+Marauders Geek Great point... that happens to me sometimes, too! Happy my videos are helpful for you.
I was upset by the normal stockinette stitch because I didn't listen to you carefully, and my scarf turned out curling from both sides. So I'm now trying this Double Stockinette stitch. It is very beautiful and has soft, stretchy touch. I really love it. (And it is hallow inside LOL, to my surprise.) It takes so long to increase in length, though. Progress is so slow haha. Also, the width seems to shrink a great deal in comparison to other stitches using the same number of cast on. Next time I will have to cast on more loops for Double Stockinette stitch.
I"m happy to see that I'm not the only one to see the "shrinking" width! It does tend to draw in on the sides....I thought I was doing something wrong.….definitely need to cast on more stitches to achieve the correct width. (It should be mentioned in these videos about double stockinette).
@@14gemgirl I experienced the same thing! Whew~
Yes, it does take longer to see progress since you are making two layers but the warmth and softness is worth it. I make baby blankets like this so I need to start far in advance of the baby’s birth. The advantage is that once you get in the rhythm you don’t have to really pay attention to what you are doing so it’s like knitting garter stitch in that way.
The reason your Double Knitting project is not as wide as you thought it would be is because you're using half the stitches you cast on to knit one side, and the other half to knit the other side, with the two sides ending up back-to-back. So if you cast on 40 stitches, 20 will be used for one side and the other 20 will be used for the other side. The piece will only be 20 stitches wide. That's not the same thing as knitting all 40 stitches across one side, which would result in a piece 40 stitches wide.
@@vivianpowell1732 thank you for explaining this!
I've been knitting for years...how did I never know about this?! Brilliant. Thanks for sharing!!
This is the best beginner friendly tutorial for the double stockinette stitch I have come across! Thank you 🙏
So great to hear!
Yes, clearly explained and demonstrated, and under 3 minutes! I saw another video tutorial that ran nearly 30 minutes...I'd rather be knitting, so thank you!
this is my favourite stich ever
You are amazing Kristen. Many thanks to teach it to me so easy.
So nice to hear. Thanks and happy knitting to you! 💖
Thank you for making stuff look easy! This gives me more confidence in my knitting. ♡
Thanks for sharing I had forgotten this double knit
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very easy to understand even as a beginner! I just knitted a whole top with stockinette stitch and I can't stop it from curling (i cried) so I'm going to remake it with this stitch.
Great idea!
Everything about your channel makes me happy. Youre the BEST instructor, your tone is so happy and cheerful and excited, it makes me happy! Thank you for posting!
Wow, thank you, Liana!
how easy.. I really love your voice over, it makes me want to knit everyday
+Laila Zulkifli Aw, you're so sweet!!! Happy knitting to you, Laila! 💗
Thank you so much Kristen! Love the simplicity!
I could watch all day 😊
Oh thank you so much for explaining it so thoroughly! I was rather daunted by double stockinette, but after watching your video, i'm rather excited to start :) cheers!
I love this video. This makes double knitting SO fast and easy! Thank you.
Im a beginner and found this very easy to follow. Can't wait to watch more from your channel.
OMG this is the laziest, loveliest pattern. Amazing!
omg this is amazing! I've just started knitting and I'm in the middle of the process of knitting a stockinette scarf... the next one will surely be a double stockinette. Awesome! Your voice brings me hope :D
Nice! Thanks for this. My daughter wanted a scarf that looked like this and I didn't know how to do it until I found your video.
Thank you so much! I'm a begginer at knitting, and your videos ae so hellpful! Thank you very much xo
Hi, Hanna, So great to hear! Happy knitting to you!
This was really cool.... I would love to see you do a "hexagon swirl" hat... I found a video but she doesn't go into detail like you... your easier to follow...
I agree. I was trying to learn how to do a braided patterns and grapevines (with other lace patterns) and it just isn't working as well on other channels for me.
Absolutely love this
Thank you x
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kristine I adore ur knitting
Thank you! I haven't been able to find this since my nan taught me when I was a kid.
For those that were confused (like I was hurhur) by what she meant by casting on in multiples of two, here’s an example..
I casted on 22 stitches, so if you want to cast on in multiples of two, it’s like 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.
You cast on one at a time like normal, but you need to finish your cast on with an even number of stitches. (/.\) 🧶🧣
Love, love, love this tutorial! This is exactly what I needed for a baby bootie pattern I'm so eager to make. As usual, this video was perfect with audio AND video. Thank you so much for sharing and coming to my knitting rescue! 🥰
Glad it was helpful for you!
I love your instructions and because of the thickness it reminds me of my very unsuccessful attempt @ two sided knitting. Thank goodness I was able to do successfully start this one🧶thank you🥰
Whew!! Been looking at many tutorials that either make it so complicated, or just gloss over the basic how-to. Or explain it in colourwork, which is further confusing... Thanks a bunch.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, super easy. Really appreciate it.
I love watching your videos. You have the best knitting videos I've found.
Hi, Holly! Awww... you're so sweet. Totally made my day, thanks!
thank you Kristen..love your Knit Stitch book too!
great knit stitch pattern! I like these ones that look the same on both sides! thank you!
It looks beautiful, and stockinette is my favorite
I love this video, and how you take your time with the step by step instruction.
Can this be done in the round the same way? I love this!
Love it , it's easy . And doesnt curl.
Hi Kristen! Thanks for this really useful and well put together video. This was just what I was looking for my current hat project!
I love this stitch! Glad I found it, perfect for the hot plate pad I’m making for the kitchen. Nice and thick too, I thought I was going to have to make two swatches sewn together.
This is great. I was looking for a stitch to use on a scarf for a friend for Christmas and I was about to give up and go to another book when I found this video.
This changes everything! Thank you! ❤️
You have such a wonderful way of teaching people how to knit. I really appreciate your channel. Do you think you could do a video on a grapevine pattern?
Ooh.. that is a great knitting pattern suggestion! I'll put it on my list. Super happy to hear you're enjoying my channel! Thanks for the kind words, EJ!
Elizabeth zimmerman mentioned a baby blanket in this stitch.she starts with a garter stitch border. She started with half amt. Of stitches, then does a thumb cast on for the first row of dss. It keeps it from being wavy on border. My question is, on last row, would you just do decreases? I would so love to see you do a baby blanket like this. You always explain things that noone else thinks of!
ow thanks you so much for this amazing techniques ... i love it.. i think im ganna knitt again..
That's so great! Getting back to knitting is the best, like being reunited with a best friend!
What an awesome pattern. I will definitely be utilising this pattern.
Great pattern! Thanks! 💖💕
im using this pattern to make a scarf im gonna use in a cosplay. it's looking great so far!
+Victoria Lee Awesome!! 💖
Thank you! Starting a scarf now!!! Wonder if you have a matching hat tutorial.
Nice! Will try this stitch tomorrow! Thanks!
Hi, Diana - Wonderful! Have fun!
Thank you for sharing!!
How do you add a new color ? Love this stitch
This does produce a beautiful fabric and the video is so easy to follow. I did find that I had to cast on more stitches than I thought I would need, because it tends to draw in on the sides and become more narrow....I usually don't have to cast on 30 stitches for an average scarf, but did have to with this stitch...produced barely 5 1/2" width scarf with bulky yarn.
Love it! I'm definitely going to work a scarf for myself in that stitch! Just need some nice, soft yarn now....
Have fun, Elisabeth! It will look gorgeous!
Studio Knit I hope so, because it means I will have something to enter in the 'scarf' class in a local Show in May. :)
Studio Knit Is there a special way to cast/bind off when using this stitch?
I’ve wondered how to do this for years! Thank you so much! This just eased so much frustration lol 💖
Thanks for your help.
This is so awesome. Thank you
This is perfect to knit a bag or tote
Great idea 💖
I like this pattern... easy and it's nice to create a scarf for those long winter days and nights. =)
Very nice n beautiful
Wow! I’ve got to try this!!

Awww... thank you! I love your channel, too! I hope everyone checks you out at ruclips.net/channel/UCtaLQQsaoxAx8t4fuGr-uUw

Awesome stitch. I noticed your kitting needles have a pencil shaped tip - what brand are they. They look like “LYKKE Umber” brand? Correct?
PS - I love your channel. As a new knitter it is awesome and easy to follow!
Thank You for posting!
Knitt
I can understand fastly if see your videos thanks for teach me knit
This is exactly what I was looking for! I'm an avid crocheter but I love how knitting looks, so I'm going to give this a try. I too am trying to knit a Harry Potter scarf (Hello fellow Ravenclaws!). I'm a little nervous about changing colors, but hopefully I'll be able to figure it out...
Yes, this is a GREAT stitch for your Ravenclaw scarf. Check out my channel for knitting help. I have a great video on how to change colors... it's so much simpler than you think! ruclips.net/video/LsmHWRIo2UI/видео.html
I'm a first time knitter so how slow you go and they way you explain is really easy for me to follow. I dont have a job right now so i can't buy what i need yet so when i can i'll be using your videos.
+HetaliaLover23 Wonderful. So happy my pace works for you!! 💗
O.O wow you replied! thats awesome. When my birthday comes around im hoping to make the harry Potter scarf. Hufflepuff colors! Anyway thank you and i hope you continue make amazing Videos.
+HetaliaLover23 That's a great idea!! 💛🖤
I love the way you talk!
Ha, very sweet of you to say, thank you. 💖
I found it! The stitch I was looking for 💞
Ooh love this one. At first I didn't think it was working and was paranoid I'd cast on an odd number, counted it twice. Then by row 3 I saw the pattern emerging. Ha ha
Thank you! I’m working on a blanket, and I’m not sure if I’ll use it 100% (the double stitch) but I most likely will XD
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
U are so explanative
double thank you! 😃
Thank you sooo much❤❤
Thanks, very helpful info. 🌼🌺🌸
Love this stitch. I was wondering if you could post a video on how to increase and decrease with this stitch...Please....Thankyou.
Thanks
O....M....G!!!! 🤯. (🤣) Every girl's dream! lol!
Îmi plac foarte mult modele si mulțumesc că pot
I'm wondering if this can be done on circular needles, any input would be wonderful.
It can be done with circular needles! The same rules apply that you need an even number
@@evacalac4194 thank you so much for your input, I want to make a beautiful blanket with this stitch any suggestions on the best type of yarn to use? It will be a blanket for an adult 🙂
@@yolandejacobs760 I mostly work with red heart worsted weight but the bulky yarn from lion brand might work! I know you can get these massive cakes from Amazon as well if that’s any help!
@@evacalac4194 it does thank you so much 🙂
Do you know any patterns with this for socks? I was wondering if this make the feel of the socks better? And does this make the sock thicker and warmer?
New to knitting. I'm trying to make a large blanket with this technique so my question is... when you finish what your project is, do you bind off the original cast on row as well?
Loved the pattern.
Unfortunately I'm having a terrible time unripping this because of a mistake I made. I'm not sure how to put it back to the needle...
Any ideas? Thanks A bunch!
It's easy thanks
Yay!
Double knitting but with just one colour!
The result is pretty and soft looking. Would it be all right to work the edges for each row as follows: slip the first two stitches together knitwise, and purl the last two stitches together? This would make a slightly thicker edging for a little more stability. You'd need to remember to cast on 2 extra stitches for this edging.
I love this stitch. I'm a relatively new knitter. Can you tell me how to get the sides tight and uniform rather than loose?
That was fantastic!!! If you did this in a striped pattern, how would you weave in ends? Can you do a video that shows how best to double knit in stripes? Thank you!
Hi, Miss Patty! Great to see you here. Ooh.... that's a great idea. I'll put it on my list!
I love this and will have to give it a try!
I knitted my first scarf in this stitch aged 11 and then again with a hugely long scarf my friends called the eight foot woolly monster Just one question when deciding to knit a scarf I THINK it is roughly a bit less than twice your desired width at the cast on stage so-depending on yarn and needle size you cast on roughly a bit less than twice as many as for-say a garter stitch scarf Aged 78 next month my memory is fading fast ! Thank you !
Thanks. I didn't know this stitch existed I thought it was all double knitting.
Ye very good
