      I tried this three times, it DID NOT WORK, and thought I was being punked. It created a double GARTER, not a double stockinette. I think what is missing from the instructions is that once you are past the first row, you have to SLIP THE KNITS AND KNIT THE SLIPS. "And we start again!" does not convey this at all. Incredibly frustrated and annoyed at this video.

    I'm a beginner knitter and really loved how this stitch looked but I was so confused when you said to cast on multiples of 2. I thought it was a special way of casting on but I just figured out that you have to cast on an even number of stitches. The rest of the video is so simple to follow that I started as soon as I figured out how to cast on multiples of 2. Thank you so much for this video! Love it!

      Multiple of 2 mean you cast on stitches that can be divided by 2. If that makes sense. 2,4,6,8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and etc.

    To those asking about the bind-off, you can bind off "in pattern"... just pretend you're working the next row, alternating knits with slips. For the last stitch on your needle, which would normally be slipped in pattern, knit it instead so you can pull the end through the loop to secure it.

      @Froggy Doodle - For clarification, when binding off can write it in pattern format?
      This is what I’m thinking you are saying:
      RS: K1, S1
      WS: S1, K1 or K1,S1 (*knit last stitch.)

    "Knit, forward, as if to purl, back. Knit, forward, as if to purl, back."
    My cat's been watching with great interest, inspecting the quality of my work. I lost my job in the pandemic, and as my mom has cancer, I couldn't get another one in my area, so I began actually selling (or trying to sell) my work. This will be a nice change of pace, since I usually do a basic garter stitch! Awesome tutorial!

    I was upset by the normal stockinette stitch because I didn't listen to you carefully, and my scarf turned out curling from both sides. So I'm now trying this Double Stockinette stitch. It is very beautiful and has soft, stretchy touch. I really love it. (And it is hallow inside LOL, to my surprise.) It takes so long to increase in length, though. Progress is so slow haha. Also, the width seems to shrink a great deal in comparison to other stitches using the same number of cast on. Next time I will have to cast on more loops for Double Stockinette stitch.

    • @14gemgirl
      @14gemgirl 5 лет назад +2

      I"m happy to see that I'm not the only one to see the "shrinking" width! It does tend to draw in on the sides....I thought I was doing something wrong.….definitely need to cast on more stitches to achieve the correct width. (It should be mentioned in these videos about double stockinette).

    • @terryech9110
      @terryech9110 5 лет назад +3

      Yes, it does take longer to see progress since you are making two layers but the warmth and softness is worth it. I make baby blankets like this so I need to start far in advance of the baby’s birth. The advantage is that once you get in the rhythm you don’t have to really pay attention to what you are doing so it’s like knitting garter stitch in that way.

    • @vivianpowell1732
      @vivianpowell1732 4 года назад +4

      The reason your Double Knitting project is not as wide as you thought it would be is because you're using half the stitches you cast on to knit one side, and the other half to knit the other side, with the two sides ending up back-to-back. So if you cast on 40 stitches, 20 will be used for one side and the other 20 will be used for the other side. The piece will only be 20 stitches wide. That's not the same thing as knitting all 40 stitches across one side, which would result in a piece 40 stitches wide.

    For those that were confused (like I was hurhur) by what she meant by casting on in multiples of two, here’s an example..
    I casted on 22 stitches, so if you want to cast on in multiples of two, it’s like 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.
    You cast on one at a time like normal, but you need to finish your cast on with an even number of stitches. (/.\) 🧶🧣

It keeps it from being wavy on border. My question is, on last row, would you just do decreases? I would so love to see you do a baby blanket like this. I did find that I had to cast on more stitches than I thought I would need, because it tends to draw in on the sides and become more narrow....I usually don't have to cast on 30 stitches for an average scarf, but did have to with this stitch...produced barely 5 1/2" width scarf with bulky yarn.

      Yes, this is a GREAT stitch for your Ravenclaw scarf. Check out my channel for knitting help. I have a great video on how to change colors... it's so much simpler than you think! ruclips.net/video/LsmHWRIo2UI/видео.html

    Ooh love this one. At first I didn't think it was working and was paranoid I'd cast on an odd number, counted it twice. Then by row 3 I saw the pattern emerging. Ha ha

      It can be done with circular needles! The same rules apply that you need an even number

    Do you know any patterns with this for socks? I was wondering if this make the feel of the socks better? And does this make the sock thicker and warmer?

    New to knitting. I'm trying to make a large blanket with this technique so my question is... when you finish what your project is, do you bind off the original cast on row as well?

  • @nandos1865
    @nandos1865 7 лет назад

    Loved the pattern.
    Unfortunately I'm having a terrible time unripping this because of a mistake I made. I'm not sure how to put it back to the needle...
    Any ideas? Thanks A bunch!

    Double knitting but with just one colour!

  • @vivianpowell1732

    The result is pretty and soft looking. Would it be all right to work the edges for each row as follows: slip the first two stitches together knitwise, and purl the last two stitches together? This would make a slightly thicker edging for a little more stability. You'd need to remember to cast on 2 extra stitches for this edging.

    I knitted my first scarf in this stitch aged 11 and then again with a hugely long scarf my friends called the eight foot woolly monster Just one question when deciding to knit a scarf I THINK it is roughly a bit less than twice your desired width at the cast on stage so-depending on yarn and needle size you cast on roughly a bit less than twice as many as for-say a garter stitch scarf Aged 78 next month my memory is fading fast ! Thank you !
