I LOVE that you used the big needles and very bulky yarn to demonstrate! It’s genius! So many tutorials use the needle/hook/yarn size from the pattern and it’s hard for me to see and follow what they are actually doing. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I love that you show both “English” and “Continental” styles of knitting. Most “how-to” videos use continental style but I knit English style so it was very helpful. In fact, I didn’t even know what my style was called until you said it in this video.😁👍🏻❤️
Thank you so much for showing your work in English and Continental knitting. I am a life long crocheter and am learning to knit and have decided Continental is closer to crochet than English. Take Care, Julee
Thanks for using the big needles to show us all. That was so much clearer for me as a beginner. I'm currently doing a scarf and it's a knit two pearl two so it's basically I think a rib stitch it looked quite similar but this one I'm your video looks so much more aligned and neater. I'm so glad I found this. Thanks so much ❤️
This tutorial was so helpful for the sweater pattern I want to make! The pattern indicates it’s a Fisherman’s rib but alternates a knit row. No other video has this pattern. I DO love the fabric it creates and now able to see why my pattern requires so much yarn! Thank You so much!!
❤You are a wonderful teacher- this is so clear and easy to follow! I didn’t know this stitch existed but I love it and can’t wait to try and knit something using it!
I remember I was determined to learn continental a few years back. It was sooo awkward, but I made myself do it for several days. I’m so happy I did. Now, that is my natural way to knit. Just a little encouragement for anyone who has wanted to learn this way… you will get it if you practice. (This isn’t a judgment about the American way to knit. Both achieve the same outcome. Just encouraging anyone who WANTS to learn and may have quit because it is so awkward-or was for me- at first 😃)
Thanks for your comment! Been deliberating on making the switch because continental seems smoother and more intuitive - but also intimidating! Any videos you recommend on learning it? If not no worries, going to check it out anyway!
This is a great tutorial. I haven't knitted in years (probably 40 years...so, yes, I'm old🙂). I have been wanting to knit again. This will be a fabulously quick stitch for scarfs, and watch caps. I crochet for charities, and this will give me a knit option, too. The large needles and the 2 methods of knitting in your video are much appreciated...so easy to see the pattern. Thanks again🤗...and now I have to go get my needles out of my plants. Did you know knitting needles make wonderful plant supports 😂.
I so want a lovely Shaker stitch sweater and now I know I'll have one! Hope to find a pattern for one now! Thank you very much for your excellent tutorial!
Thank you for your tutorial. I’m a beginner. I think I knit continental or combination. I taught myself. Thank you for showing continental and English style.
You can knit this stitch in the round but it needs the alternating rows to make the pattern, so the place a marker and the start of your work and every time you knit around to it you switch to either a even or odd row as shown in the video
thank you for always being so clear and concise, and also for showing us english and continental style! so helpful. and can i just say that your voice/accent is totally divine? it makes your videos so nice and relaxing to watch :)
The yarn & needles you use in this tutorial would make a great baby blanket! What size are needles and what wt is yarn? This choice made the tutorial very effective. 😊 Thank you!
Thank you for showing how to knit the fisherman's knit. I am wondering if you have a pattern or can show how to knit a man's cap continental style in the round? (On round needles) thank you
What a great video! Thank you for explaining it so well. I only recently learned that there is easier way to make Fisherman's rib and thankfully found your video. Question please, which of the two methods that you explained (one in this, one in different video with no purl stitch Fisherman's rib) is most similar to classic Fisherman's rib please?
Thank you! The most similar (almost identical) is the “No purl Fisherman’s Rib stitch). Take a look at the pictures on my website (link below every video, in the description box). Happy knitting 😊
@@sowoolly Thank you again, I really appreciate your quick response. I will try it out and see how I go, this will be way faster way to do it and my carpal tunnels will thank me.
Thanks! I haven’t tried it yet, but today, I posted how to knit it in the round 😉: How to knit the Shaker stitch in the round (or Half Fisherman's Rib) - So Woolly ruclips.net/video/MMQ3W9LsbGA/видео.html
You can knit it in the round like this; first pearl every stitch, then pearl one and knit one from the below, do that until the end of the row, next pearl every stitch again, and then continue like this.
I looked high and low for an easy classic look scarf for my husband. This is definitely it. So much fun to do and easy to follow with your clear instructions. Thank you 😊
I would cast on 96 stitches using size 4.5 mm double pointed needles. There will be 24 stitches on each needle. Perfect..... if you don't know how to join in the round you can find it on You tube as well. I hope this is helpful.❤
Can you show how to fix half fishermans rib stitch. I am working on a sweater for my granddaughter and have one stitch I have to fix one mistake and dint want to pull out. Thank you. I know you did a video on how to fix fisherman’s rib which is helpful. Thanks
Just claridicstion, at about 4:05 of the video when you are starting the 2nd set, you say "FIRST AND EVERY EVEN ROW" is to be knit, but I thought first row is knit and even rows are the pattern?
Is this also called mock fisherman's rib? I was doing a pattern a couple of months sgo and i thought it was this same pattern. I know this was posted over 3 yrs ago and is probably not monitored. Just curious. Thanks for the tutorial. 💜

Thank you for your video. I have a jumper with this rib and was wondering how it was knitted as to make it more interesting it is finely stripped and that makes it harder to work out. It looks lovely and I really wanted to copy it but obviously didn't want to undo one of my favourite jumpers. Oh by the way that is not the English way of knitting it's an English way of knitting. I've been knitting for sixty years and have never knitted like that and only realised when I was an adult some people in this neck of the woods do knit that way. I don't take my hand off the needle. Now for some reason someone has called it lever knitting. Oh well whatever rocks their boat. Once again thanks for your video and all your others. Please keep them coming :-))
