  • This video shows the flight of a high-altitude balloon that I helped launched in Sept 2017 for the Astronuts Kids Club in Newmarket Ontario. The balloon was launched from Goderich Ontario and reached a peak altitude between 117K and 118K feet. The payload was composed of a MT-1000 APRS transceiver from Byonics as the primary tracker and a SPOT Gen3 satellite locator as the backup tracker. It also included primary and secondary HD cameras mounted at right angles. The purpose of the flight was to carry kid’s DNA samples to the edge of space. The balloon landed in Lake Eric and was retrieved by local boater that volunteered to recover to payload.

    I don't understand why some insist on posting offensive comments, using inappropriate or insulting language about how we conducted this flight. This event and video was completed to support a kids club. These kids and their parents are viewing this video and reading these offensive comments.
    If "YOU" feel that "YOU" can do better, then please invest in equipment that you may never recover, complete the flight and then post "YOUR" own video.

      Yes, I've seen the hate between both sides but since I've begun paying attention to the launches on youtube livestream by SpaceX (the Tesla), it was the flats instigating the hate. As far as me asking why would they lie, the topic on flat earth livechat at the time was, "You've all been lied to". But I choose to believe in the globe NOT just because of what they show us but because of what I see with my own eyes. From the shape of our sun, moon & the three planets that I've observed through my own telescope. So therefore, the earth must be similar in shape but you know, in my mind. Heck, I've even seen the International Space Station pass over my house on schedule. Look, if the world is in fact "flat" then yea, I too would like to see a real pic of an entire flat earth. It would be amazing & change a lot but we'd all would continue on about our lives. You're not going to quit your job or stop paying taxes & bills etc... Or will you?

    Question for the flat earthers that are spamming this comments section: If your model is correct, then how come people on different continents don't see different lunar phases? It's hard to explain this with words, so here's a picture explaining what I'm talking about: i.imgur.com/zFVJOkY.png (This image is not mine, it is from a series of daily flat earth debunks)
    You can't deny that this is how Moon phases should work on the FE model, it's completely obvious. So I'm curious, are there any explanations for why we don't see this happening?

    • @timothyfatburg9530
      @timothyfatburg9530 6 лет назад

      Lol they probably would say that. Either that or they'll say it's somehow a result of perspective.

    • @Eye_Radiate_Light

      Official Flat Earth Answer:
      Moon phases don't even make sense in the heliocentric model. A Full Moon supposedly occurs when the Earth is located directly between the Sun and the Moon, and is within the Earth's umbra (shadow) eg. wwwcdn.skyandtelescope.com/wp-content/uploads/Umbra_color_schematic_simple.jpg
      So explain how the Moon can be fully illuminated when the Moon is completely within the Earth's shadow. My understanding when something is within something else's shadow, there is no light, that's why they call it a shadow in the first place. Keeping in mind the diameter of the Earth is 7918 miles compared to the Moon's diameter of 2,159 miles, therefore light would have to bend 5759 miles around the Earth for your model to be correct.

    • @Eye_Radiate_Light
      @Eye_Radiate_Light 6 лет назад +1

      A person standing on the equator can see Polaris slightly above the horizon. However this would be impossible if the Earth was a globe because Polaris would be obscured underneath the curvature of the Earth. To see Polaris slightly above the horizon from the equator would only be possible on a Flat Earth.

    • @timothyfatburg9530
      @timothyfatburg9530 6 лет назад +1

      That's not an answer, you dodged the question and said "but round Earth doesn't make sense either". I was asking if you could explain how the Moon works on *your* model. *Do you have an explanation for why we don't see different sides of the Moon depending on the location?*
      Also the Moon *isn't* fully illuminated when it's in the Earth's shadow. The only time the Moon is in the Earth's shadow is during a total lunar eclipse, and when that occurs it's blood red. (Due to the atmosphere of the backlit Earth glowing and lighting up the Moon.)
      As for the Polaris question, can you link to some evidence showing Polaris being visible from the equator? And by from the equator I mean the literal equator: 0° latitude. Even if you're observing from 1°N Polaris will be visible. This is due to the fact that Polaris' height above the equator is always equal to the latitude from which you are observing it, which on its own is actually proof that the Earth is round. (So at 37° N polaris will be 37° up in the sky.)

    • @firecatgreg
      @firecatgreg 6 лет назад +2

      +Timothy Fatburg you can actually see a little more than half of the moon as it wobbles slightly from its tidal locked position. The moon is tidally locked in orbit facing the earth due to tidal forces of the earth keeping the moon from rotation. It rotates bu that is based on tidal lock with the gravity point of the earth being the focus point of that lock. This tidal force and gravity explains many observations of real objects, like planets and asteroids and comets all of which can be predicted and have been by astronomers. Flat earth theory must deny gravity because it destroys their imaginary model. Flat earth is a form of 2d retarded theory and can’t explain the setting of the sun. Why if the moon is a round object which it is we can’t see over 70 percent of it at the same time during the same night at its prescribed flat earth distance. Why stars revolve around the South Pole. Why stars rotate in reverse around the South Pole compared to the north, etc,

  • @timothyfatburg9530
    @timothyfatburg9530 6 лет назад +26

    Jeez the amount of flat earthers in this comment section is insane. While you guys are here, I might as well ask some questions that I have yet to get a good answer for:
    1) Using only the flat earth model, can you predict when the next transit of Venus will be, where it's visible, and when it happens?
    2) Using only the flat earth model, can you predict the next total solar eclipse, where it will be, what the path of totality looks like, and when it will happen?
    3) Using only the flat earth model, can you tell me when the next opposition of Mars will be?
    If your model is correct, it should be easy to accurately make these predictions. I don't even need you specifically to figure it out, just ANY flat earther will do. Just make sure to explain the steps you took to get to your answer.

    Dave VE3001...This was done for a kids club? That is so awesome. Back when I was a kid in 6th grade (many moons ago) we built little payload boxes way smaller than the one your team built, made parachutes and attached them to our boxes and placed an egg inside the box, went to the local park climbed up the bleachers to the top and let our experiment go...mine didn't have a chance. SPLAT!! KUDOS to all of your club members. The footage was so beautiful. Very serene. Great Job!!

      Because the nearest one's orbit is at least 70 miles above this balloon's highest altitude, and that's just at the _closest point_ in its orbit. If you could see it, it would appear at least as small as a star (likely much smaller), and since they're not even able to capture stars in this video, they certainly won't be capturing any satellites.

  • @joolslaloosh
    @joolslaloosh 6 лет назад +19

    This is an excellent representation of what a fisheye lens does to the horizon. Notice when the Horizon is above the middle of the screen it curves upward. And when it is below the middle of the screen it curves downward. I was just watching the NASA live feed from space so to speak. And I noticed that they never let the Horizon below the middle of the screen. This gives the illusion to the viewer that the Horizon is curved when in fact it is not. If the Verizon was directly in the middle of the screen it would be absolutely flat.

    • @elonesnah

      Amanda Cardona imagine overtaking a car on the interstate; say you're doing 62mph and the car you're overtaking is doing 60. Firstly, I have problems with your decision to overtake so slowly, but secondly and more to the point, to tge other car it looks like you're only doing 2mph. This is clearly not to be taken as evidence that you actually were only doing walking pace (but I would genuinely love to see someone argue a sleeding ticket in court using that argument).

      If the earth is flat, why do things fall?
      Why are there seasons? Why do the days last longer in the Summer and last less in Winter?
      How does the Midnight Sun happen at the poles and even in Antarctica, if the Sun is on the other side at midnight?
      Why is atmospheric pressure lower at higher altitudes?
      Why in a flat terrain does an object disappear on the horizon when it moves away about 50km?
      Why at sunset does the sky turn red?
      Why does the moon have phases? Why does it shine even at night?
      Why is the crescent moon in the Southern Hemisphere turned to the left, in the Northern Hemisphere is it turned to the right, and in Ecuador is it facing down?
      Why are there solar and lunar eclipses?
      Why in a lunar eclipse is the shadow of the Earth on the Moon round, not flat?
      Why do the constellations appear more and more right at the same hour and minute of the night, until they disappear to the right and a year later they reappear to the left if the Earth does not move in circles?
      How do compasses work? Why is the north magnetic pole in Canada, not in the middle, and the south magnetic pole is on the edge, not underside?
      Why are there volcanoes and eruptions if the Earth is flat and has no mantle and core?
      How does your GPS and Google Maps work and know your location if there are no satellites?
      Why are the planets increasingly right to the stars if they orbit Earth?
      Why are there tectonic plates? Why do they move if it has no mantle and core?
      Why are some stars and constellations only visible in the Northern Hemisphere and some only in the Southern Hemisphere?
      Why are the planets in different places in the sky every year and sometimes we can't even see them?
      How do meteors fall on Earth if there is a dome? What are the Chicxlub crater in Mexico and Vredefort crater in South Africa?
      How does the Sun illuminate exactly half the Earth, what prevents the light from passing to the other side?
      How do the northern and southern auroras happen?
      Explain that, flat earthers!
      If the Earth is flat, explain these videos:
      ruclips.net/video/W9ksbh88OJs/видео.html

      ruclips.net/video/zyq5eN9C4Cc/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/88So6i0-YHQ/видео.html
      Why did not anyone ever take a photo of the edge or dug it to fall on the other side?
      This comment will shut the mouths of the flat earthers, now what are their arguments to prove that the Earth is flat? The Earth is round, this is *FACT* , it took several years to be studied and proven, and you draw these conclusions just because you see the Earth flat, you do not have to see something for it to be real, flat earthers are imbeciles, they're the cancer of the world, I can't believe there are still imbeciles who believe the Earth is flat in 2018 we are not in the years -6000c anymore, evolve, monkey!!! 🐒🐵🍌

    • @7shocker
      @7shocker 6 лет назад +7

      Craig Cowell don't be dumb.
      25,000 mile circumference requires 1040mph SURFACE speed to complete one revolution at the equator. No experiment has ever measured or detected motion of any kind. Period and end of discussion 😀

    • @rabidpogoista4510
      @rabidpogoista4510 6 лет назад +6

      Zechariah Williams First of all, we're talking about Ontario, Canada, which is closer to the pole than to the equator, so the surface there isn't moving anywhere near 1000 mph.
      More importantly though, the balloon is moving with the Earth. It was matching forward velocity with the Earth when it was on the ground, so without any opposing forces to resist it after leaving the ground, it will keep moving at that same velocity.
      "*No experiment has ever measured or detected motion of any kind. Period and end of discussion"*
      That's a statement of pure faith on your part. There is so much irrefutable proof of the Earth's motion you'd have to be a shut-in in your mother's basement to ignore it.

    • @7shocker
      @7shocker 6 лет назад +5

      Rabid Pogoista post the experiment that proves motion for one.. I'll wait 😚
      Two.. if you agree that at different lattitudes the Earth's rotational velocity must with to zero at the polls or speed up to 1040mph at the equator, how do we not feel that change? Planes are completely unaffected flying north and south.
      Three, if you say that the balloon is taking on the rotational velocity of the earth (and thus moving with it), take the following experiment which has been done already and which completely destroys the notion of a moving earth:
      At the equator, place a cannon perpendicular to the sky. Fire the cannon straight up and measure the time it takes to come back down. For simplicity, let's say it's airborne for a total of 30 seconds ,(15 up and 15 down). Where does the ball land with respect to the cannon, if the Earth is moving 1040mph (surface speed), West to East? Next, fire the cannonball in all cardinal directions and at varying fixed degrees for each (same angle for all directions). Again, measure the time the ball is airborne, then measure the distance traveled when fired from the cannon and make note. What do we get?
      You can sit there all day and talk about angular momentum, yada fricking yada... Till the cows come home... And then some. This is an inextricably, unexplainable phenomena of the rotating fairytale ball earth. The fact of the matter is, the ball comes straight back down when fired perpendicular and the ball goes equal distances no matter the direction (with the rotation, against it, north and south etc).
      The Bible declares the earth FIRM and IMMOVABLE in Psalms TWICE. Ancient civilizations such as Egyptian, Norse, Hindu, Aztec, Mayan and the Hebrews proclaim the earth flat and motionless.
      It is you, my dear uninformed friend that is the deluded one. Wake up. Either you're deceived or you're a deceiver.
      "It's easier to fool someone than to convince them they have been fooled." Amirite?

      It does, but whenever the horizon runs through the very centre of the screen, it is not distorted at all. I haven't the time or energy to download the video, use software to find the centre of the screen, freeze it at the right point, and check, but I'll make a prediction: The horizon arcs downwards even when it is not distorted by the lens.

    Its simple, Planet earth is a globe, for a sense of scale It's diameter is about 8000mi and its
    circumference is about 25000mi, so it's easy to say it'd be hard to spot curvature at only about 26mi(educated guess) away from earth.

      STOP USING THE "FISH EYE MANTRA". Please read up on "barrel distortion" that is the product of wide angle lenses and fish eye lenses in particular. Any straight line passing through the center of the frame REMAINS STRAIGHT. Ergo, if you freeze the video when the horizon is perfectly straight, check to see whether or not it crossed the frame at its exact center. If yes, the horizon is indeed flat and the curvature is the sole product of fish eye distortion. If, OTOH, when you freeze the horizon so that it is perfectly straight you see more sky than land, i.e, the horizon is NOT on the center of the frame, then you are looking at a curved horizon in spite of the fish eye lens. That is how it works.

      U kno a fish eye lens will make a straight look bent but the same gos for a curve if a fish eye lens is at the right angel it will make a curve look straight just like a straight line would look curved so u would have to see it with ur own eyes to really know if its flat or not btw planes dont go high enough to fully show u the curve or flatness. Untill us citizens go to space we wont really know the truth but keep an opened mind about everything

    No matter how high the camera was, the Sun looked like it was at the same angle. Clear proof that the Sun is VERY far away. From this, I'd estimate it to be about 93,000,000 miles away. Good video!

      There's usually not much work to show for an assumption, although I did watch this RUclips video, which seems to be generally acceptable as a scientific study in the flat-Earth community.
      My comments were mostly sarcasm, meant to mock what I see many flat-Earthers do; to call some half-baked experiment "clear proof" of something, and even attempt to make a calculation from it.
      I stand by what I said though - the Sun looked like it was pretty much the same angle, no matter how high the shot was taken from. That's a pretty good indication that the Sun is freakin' FAR, FAR away. Not far like a light tower across the ocean, a sky-scraper across the city - not even 10's, 100's, or 1000's of times further away than that. I'm talking unimaginably far.

      You an send it higher if you reserve empty space inside the balloon to allow for further expansion of the gas inside. The usual way of doing this is filling only the minimum amount of helium that will actually lift the balloon. This is why large balloon experiments look like they are only partially filled at launch - they will keep expanding at altitude without bursting. See image below.
      tinyurl.com/partially-filled-balloon

    This video only confirms a flat plane. Lens distortion aside, ie when the camera stabilizes and does not show a warped horizon in either direction, it is very clearly a completely flat horizon in all directions terminating at mid point as the vanishing point. At that height on a sphere the size of earth the fall off on all sides to the eye would clearly show to the observer (camera). A little art class 101 on perspective shows that spheres fall away from the observers perspective and a flat plane will always disappear at midpoint, hence "vanishing point".
    Another thought, how is it that the rotation works with this object so high in the atmosphere? Everything including the reduced atmosphere is still being pulled along with earth's gravity at hundred's (something a bit smaller than the 1034 at equator) of miles per hour? Or is the balloon now more free of the atmosphere and therefore would have reduced effects of being pulled with the rotation of the planet? Wouldn't the balloon then lag far behind the rotation of the earth and end up landing hundreds or more miles away? Or is that just gravity that is accelerating the balloon with it's special magic? Seems pretty calm up there...
    Not enough good answers for all the problems on either side of this diametric debate. There are never just two sides to anything. Open minds, open forum people. It's so disappointing to read the wretched comments by people that prefer to attack, insult and obfuscate.

    • @Simboiss
      @Simboiss 6 лет назад +2

      This not high enough to see the curvature of Earth, but it doesn't mean the Earth is flat. The horizon looks like a flat line, which is geometrically EXPECTED when you look at a sphere when you are close enough. The vanishing point, from the observer's perspective, is the same from every direction. Because it's the same distance all around, it looks like a flat line no matter your orientation.

    Kansas is about 400 miles long...and 210 miles wide... AND WAS OFFICIALLY DETERMINED TO BE FLATTER THAN A PANCAKE. No curvature there.. when there should be.. given the math formula for determining the earths curve.
    An American geography professor has shown the landscape of the state of Kansas is "as flat as a pancake." In fact, geography Prof. Mark Fonstad of Southwest Texas University concluded the topography of the wheat state is flatter than a pancake.Jul 25, 2003
    So water.. which lies flat in it's natural state... can be manipulated.. but it will always revert back to it's natural state... FLAT.
    Why is it that so many.. cannot figure this out ?
    It is because of the magic of the imaginary theoretical force called gravity.. that has been pounded into peoples brains for centuries.. that claims to make water adhere to a spinning ball in motion.
    It cannot be physically possible given what water does and how it behaves in it's natural state. Not to mention.. the globe earth is surrounded by the "vacuum of space".. and yet nothing gets sucked off the surface of the earth... and since "space" is more vast... just what is producing the vacuum in the first place? hmmm.
    NASA is untrustworthy.. and the heliocentric model.. was touted as fact.. waaaaaaay before there was ANY evidence that it was true...... and it's not.
    Go pro cameras... are not the right equipment to use for such a venture as this.
    There are plenty of real videos taken without barrel or fish eye distortion.. showing the earth to be flat in a 360 degree radius from the camera's position.
    *WAKE UP PEOPLE*

      The stars aren't visible because the camera is exposed for the sunlit Earth, which is much brighter than the faint stars. This means the stars are incredibly underexposed and thus rendered invisible.
      In order for the camera to pick up the stars it would have to overexpose the Earth, which is obviously not what we want as the Earth is the interesting part of the video.

      The reason you cannot see stars in space is because, for example, if you stand in a city on a cloudless day and look up, you'll see no stars. Now go out to an isolated countryside area on a cloudless night and you'll see millions of stars. This is because of light pollution. Now this is with the human eye, and it's the same with a camera in space, or a camera anywhere. Try to take a picture of a starry sky and your camera just won't pick it up due over-exposure, which is similar to the light pollution us humans see. Now with the sun, when a camera is in space, the main force of the light it's picking up is from the sun and the light reflecting off large objects. Taking a mixture of both the light pollution answer and the over exposure answer, this is why you cannot see stars in space, through a camera.
