  • Randy Newberg sets out for his 2018 Montana Mule Deer hunt. Joined by his good friend and neighbor Bart May, they have a few days to fill a limited entry deer tag outside of their home in Bozeman.
Using the llamas to carry gear and hopefully meat, they head out from the trailhead up a canyon where Bart has hunted in years past. Along the way they bump into multiple moose, but aren't seeing a lot of deer.
    #deerhunting #hunting #montana
Once they really start gaining elevation they spot a nice buck pushing a group of does. They continued to hike up hoping to relocate the group. After lunch, they hike up to where they think the deer might be bedded.
After finding the does, the buck finally shows up and beds down within sight. Randy gets a great shot and his tag is filled. Bart and Randy tag and quarter out the buck, load it on the llamas, and head back down to the trailhead.

I Just finished my 2019 Colorado Mule deer hunt . because of conditions I took a really nice big body forked horn with one inch eye gaurds. will be great eating. but the blessing in the hunt was hunting with my wife. Beautiful country . Thank you God bless you and just know I pray for you and your health (liver). Keep up the great work as long as you can brother.

Wonderful video Randy. I really enjoy the format of your hunting videos, but more importantly, I appreciate the fact that it is not "edited" to death, (i.e. Just kill shots and shameless product plugs).
I think I watch more for the conversations between you and whomever you are with. It shows what really goes on, what is said, heard, and seen. The fellowship between hunting partners is paramount. And you always have such poignant remarks towards the conclusion, that resonates with me. You show reverence and appreciation, and keep it simple. Cheers.

Randy, spent my 60th birthday driving across Montana to reach Baker for my first Montana deer and pronghorn hunt. Only my second time hunting Montana. I agree, the success is not just the harvest but the time with great friends and the enjoyment of the outdoors. I was fortunate to tag a pronghorn that I scored just under 81" the day before your harvest. Been hunting 46 years, my first pronghorn hunt! Beginners luck! My partner and I both shot beautiful mule deer bucks to complete our journey. Montana is awesome, actually my birth state. Definitely the coldest darn hunt I have been on! I love your video's, you keep it real. Best wishes for you and your family, have happy holidays.

Absolutely love your show. I hunt extensively in Alberta and hunt in similar country and style. I appreciate your enjoyment of the process, not just the result. Might have to get me a Montana Double Date sometime! lol

Marcus the Public Lands Llama and his pal Marshall, nothing like having those furry and fun costars along with you as well as a good friend and neighbor in Bart. Nothing wrong with a one day hunt in pretty much your back yard that is what most people do here in the east is hunt their property, a friend or family member's property, maybe a local WLMA. Congrats on a early birthday buck for you Randy, definitely a super solid 3 point or 6 pointer for us back east.

@@Fresh_Tracks absolutely I did and you are welcome. Heck I recently got home and am 40 minutes into the hour and 46 minute Hunt Talk Live stream with Mathew and Marcus that you all recently posted. (even though it is from before Thanksgiving, still a great watch and discussion)

Great hunt - enjoyable viewing! Don't be concerned with those "mile markers" that are in the rearview mirror. I've got 64 in mine and still hike and climb these Colorado mountains. I have a "like vintage" buddy in Livingston who climbed 20 peaks (gnarly ones) in your neck of the woods last summer. The way you go, I'm sure you have many more mile markers of good travel. Dang, those llamas sure make it easier and more enjoyable I'm sure. I've been telling wifey that they would sure be good backpacking partners - let alone hunting packers. Anyway, enough rambling...thanks for sharin your hunts with us. I like your style...not all that hype and foolishness of so many other hunting shows!

No, Randy... no AARP left-wing craziness. AMAC is the "more gooder" alternative. Now, on to more "impotent" matters... congrats on a fine buck! It's a pleasure to see you able to snag up a full tag in just a day. And, the boys done good packin' your prize back to the truck for ya too.
