    Great topic! You may have mentioned this, but if you connect a V-mount via USB-C and the camera is off (it might do this if camera is on, haven't tested) and the internal Sony battery is less than 100% charged, the system will top-off the internal battery with juice from the V-mount. So you will see some drain on the V-mount even with camera off, until the internal battery is recharged. At first I was alarmed, but not it makes perfect sense.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Год назад +1

      Yew, true. These cameras are designed to charge the battery internally, and Top it off this way. The basic a7 cameras (a7iii, a7iv) don't come with a charger. Only the USB-C cable. The higher end A7R, A7S, and FX3 cameras come with a dedicated battery charger.

      I've shot about 4 hours on this battery continuously, and still had about 20% left on it, plus the internal battery was still totally 100% full, after so even if the battery died, you would still have the Sony battery inside the camera as a backup for another hour or so.

      Hi @creativcluster Yes, I'm glad you asked! I just made an update to this video today, where you can USB-C PD to ANY V-mount battery. ruclips.net/video/4RoEg8QHhM8/видео.html
      Also, in this video I mention that you have to Sony battery in the camera, because it is just a Sony thing. It needs a dummy battery inside it, or a real battery in it, to be able to Power on the camera. For the monitor, you would need something like this D-Tap to NPF battery geni.us/Andycine-D-tap-NPF or you could use the battery power adapter that came with your NINJA V. The Atomos wall power adapter has an NPF battery on it. You can just unplug that wall cable (from the Atomos supplied dummy battery), and replace it with a D-Tap to DC cable like this: geni.us/D-Tap-to-DC Hope this helps!

      Let’s see the rig vid. There are so many options for shoulder mounts/plates/etc, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
      One consideration, I personally use the Touch AF functionality while constantly switching my line of sight to my external monitor (smallHD Indie 7 and 502). One of my big obstacles is properly balancing the thing because of the HEAVY left side bias. Tbh, I would have traded up to an FX6 ages ago if it was possible to acquire a new unit.

    Ray, I purchased one of these batteries to use with my FX3. But when I plug it in via USB-C the camera does not recognize the power from the ZGCINE battery. I turned on the USB Power Supply option in the FX3 setup, but the camera display just continues to show the percentage of battery left on the camera. Is there something special I have to do to get the battery to work with the FX3? Or could I have a faulty battery? Thanks for your help with this.

      Hi! Whenever I plug my FX3 into the battery the percentage sign goes away and it shows a little icon by the battery of a Wall Plug within 3 seconds. Also, could be your cable. • @RayValencia

      Thanks Superjeanmarc! How you been? I think you will get similar results due to battery capacity, 99Wh. The benefit of this battery is the USB-C PD, but for longer lasting shoots, you'd probably need 150Wh or bigger. Then, unfortunately, you'd lose the ease of portability though.

      Thanks for the question, Chris! If you pause the video at 2:02 I have a close-up of the back of the battery where it has all the voltage outputs. ⚡️ The ports are adaptive to be either 5V, 9V, or 12V... depending on what you plug into it. Your devices can only pull the voltage they need. So the 9V port on the FX3 can't pull 12V from the battery, only 9V. But a 12V device can pull the full 12V. Hope this clarifies!!

    Hi Ray, I have a couple of questions I got this battery from Amazon for my shoot this weekend. I had two shoots for the first one I used the internal battery because I was using gimbal for the second it was just on a tripod. I powered my Sony a7c using the usb port on the battery but I noticed after the shoot the camera battery was drained I started the shoot at 50% and by the end I noticed my camera battery was at 3% but the vmount battery still had a lot at 60%. I am not sure what happened. I also tried to use the usb c port instead but when I connect to my camera all I get is “USB mode connecting” and can’t see anything else. I would love your advice on this situation should I get a dummy battery to connect to the vmount battery??

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Год назад +3

      Hi miracle nnorom. From what I'm learning from other people's experience in the comments, seems like certain model cameras can vary, but try this:
      1-make sure you have a high speed USB-C, like the Sony cable that came with your camera (and ZG battery).
      2-make sure you have USB power Enabled in-camera, (which it sounds like you already do if your ZGCine battery was drained). Sounds like you only got 5V output from it instead of the 9V.
      3- Some people are reporting that you have to connect the ZG battery into your Sony USB-C port BEFORE powering on your camera to get the full 9V Power Delivery. No idea why or how this is a thing, but that's what other ppl on my channel are saying. I HOPE THIS HELPS! 🙏🏼 You will see a little Power Plug icon next to your battery icon in the camera when it's working (at least that's how it is is on the FX3 and a7S3).

But I will definitely try all the options out today thanks again for the info.

    Hi, Ray! I just got a Sony FX30 and I'm looking for an external power solution, This looks like it may work. Does the battery automatically know how much power to output? I'm afraid I'll burn out the camera.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Год назад +1

      Hi Victor. I use this battery every week on the FX3, and it works like a charm (same exact body). The camera can actually accept more amps than this battery can provide, but you still don't lose internal battery because it can provide 9V of output (which is what really matters). Technically the camera can accept 9V 3A. This battery outputs 9V 2A, which maintains internal battery power.

      @@RayValencia I ended up ordering it and it received about 2 days ago. I actually took it out on a shoot today for the very first time. It ran about four straight hours and it got down to about 20%. My internal battery was still at 100%. It worked out well. Thanks for your help.

      @Everything Christian Valentine oh dude, the USB-C Power Delivery is what totally makes this purchase worth it! I was the Gaffer on a short film this weekend, and the shooter was using this ZGCINE mounted onto her RS3 gimbal to power a BMPCC 6K and her Tilta follow focus. So we had a good conversation about how unique this battery is because she was charging it by USB-C, and I gave her my BP charger to use, which she had never done before (because they are expensive chargers). But the ability to charge by P-tap, BP, and USB-C is super cool. It lasted her a full day shoot with THAT big camera. After about 8 hours, we got her down to 42%, so we charged her back up to 65% then went out to the beach to finish the film. Plus this battery comes with usb cables.

The battery percentage still shows. However, when i turn the camera all the way off and let it sit for 3 secs to let it fully power down, then plug in the USB C to USB C cable and power on the camera it shows the plug icon next to the battery level showing it is receiving power from the battery. Looking for a fix still.

      I use the high speed USB-C cable that came in the box with my camera, or the high speed DJI cable that came with the Ronin. These are rated for 9V Power.
      No you can't kill your camera with the wrong cable, but a cheaper, weaker 5V cable won't allow you to get 9V Power Delivery to the camera.
