  • Many people wonder what it means to have a rib out, a slipped rib or costochondritis. Chiropractors Dr. Laina and Dr. Jamie see many patients with slipped ribs and will show you what it feels like, how it creates shoulder blade pain and pain in the front of your shoulder, and what can be done about it. www.pure-health.com

    Hey, right now I am trying to figure out if I have costochondritis or a rib that is out of alignement, because I mostly have the pain/knot in my back that you talk about in the video, but it causes me inflammation on my chest on the costochondral joint. Also on my chest it feels like I have a rib kind of popped out since there’s a really small lump over my sternum and it feels like it’s one of my rib that is over my sternum. I don’t know if you could help me clarify, but thank you and great video !

      Hi, Costochondritis is what what most medical doctors diagnose a "rib out" as. It just means swelling in the rib joint. When the rib isn't aligned properly it causes inflammation at the joint aka costochondritis.
      "Rib out" is a very slang term we use to talk to patients and it sounds like that could be your issue. I'd find a good chiropractor who knows how to adjust ribs and have them palpate it. It's very hard to know for sure unless we see you but it sounds like that could be your issue. Good luck!

    12 years ago I was squatting 305 pounds and my shoulder just dropped and I pulled my rib head out apparently .. took 6 weeks of work but it popped in and eventually healed I guess. Fast forward 7 years later about 5 years ago from now I blocked a layup off the backboard and it pulled my arm back and it happened again .. this time no luck with getting the pain to go away. Been living with a wobbly rib and burning pain under my shoulder blade ever since. One day I will be pain free!! Might be when I’m dead but still …

    I did a weeks worth of mopping a commercial building. A week later my upper spine hurt and then the pain spread to the chest and rib cage. Turned out I had bulged discs in my neck and maybe now Costochondritis. I keep hearing popping in my back when I take deep breath’s.
    Will x-rays show a rib out of place?
    When I get on the ground and adjust my back the pain in my sternum goes away but I have to do this multiple times a day.
    Any suggestions ?

      Hi, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. An Xray won't likely show that the rib is out of place. Are you able to see a chiropractor? It sounds like you may benefit from an adjustment to your ribs. a chiropractor can find the exact spot the rib is out of alignment or "stuck" and get it moving the way it is supposed to. Once you're feeling better I would put emphasis on posture to reduce strain on your neck and upper back. You can try one of these: ruclips.net/video/MQH-VrGtzBo/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/xnyI1KRzhQM/видео.html. I hope that helps!

    Thank you, great video. I'm 70 and I fell out of the bathtub and broke right side ribs 9 and 10 at the bottom. About 3 weeks after the fall I have had about 9 level pain behind my right shoulder blade when I lie down to sleep. Since ribs 9 and 10 are at the bottom are they harder to align? I have been doing stretches to no avail. Also will an X-Ray show mis-alignment?

    • @posturechiro
      @posturechiro  Год назад +1

      Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that. Broken ribs are very painful. If the ribs are broken they can't be manually aligned. Once they are healed a good chiropractor can ensure they are aligned either manually or using a gentle instrument called an activator. Broken ribs take at least 6 weeks to heal. The break should be evident on an Xray (not always, but often).
      In order to get comfortable try this: Sometimes if you lie on your left side and put a thicker pillow in front of you so your right arm can rest on it that reduces the pain. It will keep your right shoulder from rolling forward. I hope that helps and makes you more comfortable.

    Hey I did an x ray and the result showed that my rudimentary cervical rib on right side . What does it mean ? I feel tight on my middle back when breathing out.

    • @posturechiro
      @posturechiro  2 года назад

      Hi, it means that you have an extra small rib coming from the bottom of your cervical spine (lower neck)...but it's likely an incidental finding and nothing to worry about. Cervical ribs can contribute to some symptoms but not mid back pain, they are unlikely to be connected. Double check with your local chiropractor (because I haven't seen the actual Xrays) to be sure.

      Hi, hard to know witout knowing more about your case history. It's not unusual for it to take 4 days-1 week for it to resolve. It also deopends how tense you were, how inflammed you are generally and if you tend to re-aggravate it through the day. (likely at your desk). Your chiropractor should be able to answer that question better for you. :)

    Hi quick question, can a rib out on right side cause neck tightness on right side of neck? I have stiffness on right side of neck and right upper back so bad I think it’s causing my right eye to be higher (eye misalignment) . Jus wondering if there can be a connection or maybe you seen that before. Thank u

      HI, Yes...definitely an upper rib will change how you use the muscles and joints in the area and eventually affect the neck joints and nerves as well. I hope you get some relief soon.

    I've had this pain in my shoulder blade for the past 7 years, all day every day. Dull ache, sharper pain if I retract my scapula, take deep breaths, etc. Bunch of popping and grinding in my shoulder over time has worsened. could never figure out what was wrong, until I came across this video. Yesterday, I went to a chiropractor for the first time, just a random one close by. I told him my symptoms and thought that I may had a rib out. He did a bunch of adjustments, but I'm not sure if he actually put that rib back into place. This seems like an injury thats very specific and the specific rib needs to be put back into place, but he did a bunch of stuff.
    I still feel the pain in my shoulder blade, and when i take deep breaths. Should these symptoms have cleared right away? Or is this going to take multiple visits. He said its going to take a while. Just trying to figure out if I should go to a different chiro. Please respond, thank you so much for posting this video.

      Hi, if you've had it that long it will take a bit to get it to let go. I wouldn't be surprised if he said 3x/3weeks but by then you should definitely have results. as long as he is a chiropractor that knows how to adjust ribs you should be in good hands. Some ribs will settle down with adjustments to the mid back but in my experience you get more relief when the actual rib is adjusted. I hope that helps and you feel better soon!

      @@posturechiro I have an important question. If this rib is out, would someone be able to feel it if they touch it? When I use a lacrosse ball and roll it between my spine and scapula, there is a noticable lump on the right injured side. I do not feel it on the left non injured side. Thank you.

    My shoulder was hurting and popping. My 4th rib was out. My physical therapist put it back in. It has come out several times. I have been told that once it has come out a couple of times, it will probably continue to come out every so often.

    • @posturechiro
      @posturechiro  Год назад +1

      That's not necessarily so. Very often it is coming out because the area is continuing to be strained by poor posture and weak muscle in the area. if you correct the issues it will become stable. Here are 2 simple exercises to start with but checkout our posture playlist for more info.
