Interesting. What are the regulations they refuse to comply with? It's surprising that they would give up such a huge market - corporations will usually say up is down if it means they can earn money. I'd love to know what made them decide to give up on chasing China profits.

Yeah, if you translate the word "bitch" into Chinese, it is a really really offensive and bad word to use in public. I know in English this word sometimes has a positive meaning and people use it to mean "sassy" or cool or they just joke around, but in Chinese, no one would joke around with their friends using the Chinese version of this word because it is so offensive. I bet the oganizers, especially in a small city like Hefei, probably don't understand English and the culture behond the language. I've organized concerts in China, and we also advise performers to be mindful of their language. even including it in the contract. But there's no need to worry about getting caught. China is not as you might imagine; it's even more tolerant towards foreigners. It's not actually the government, the organizers, or the fans demanding this from you. Rather, it's some moral defenders who might see your performance. They would then make the organizers extremely, extremely embarrassed. This is also one of China's forms of political correctness. You don't need to worry about getting into trouble; it's the organizers who are worried about getting into trouble. Actually, you can do whatever you want on stage, as long as the moral defenders don't see it, there's no problem. The issue is that you have too many fans.
You abandoned all your values in order to make some money. What is a moral defender? Shouldn't influential public figures promote positive energy and promote social development towards a better direction??
@@yongzhu8454 In the west, is it OK for a public figure to promote racism and Anti-Semitism if he/she genuinely thinks that is positive energy and a better direction for social development ? And can he/she blames others for canceling his/her show?
I live in Shanghai. For an idea of the size I regularly take a Didi (Uber) from my university in the "suburbs" of Shanghai (where you will still find massive high rises and huge modern shopping malls) to my friend's place in the western "downtown" of Shanghai on mostly an eight lane highway running through the city. It's 20 km away! But costs only 8 pounds!

James is very calm this time - culture shock :D :D. China is amazing - their hotels are really 5 star. I was also surprised by pea ice cream. And the food is no1 in the world.
Hefei is a bit more conservative city that has less foreigners, the government does not want young fans to cause any issues that they cannot handle. Big cities Shenzhen, Guangzhou would not have no such issues at all. Shanghai is the best place to be for western shows.
Hefei may be conservative in pop culture, but it's very innovative in science, technology, education and industry. Hefei aims to be a high-tech industrial city rather than a city of culture and tourism. Hefei is more "like modern Chinese" than Shanghai, which is sometimes "too international".
The funny thing is that blokes from America and Europe flow into China thinking they are going to a developing country from a developed one, and turned out it’s the other way around, and that’s the real cultural shock.
I just remember my time 10 years ago in China I was working for the Swiss company and they told me to take bus to another city. It was iphone5 with translator camera live what saved me. Sadly 50km means roaming and my 3G data sim stopped working, no google of course on wifi. And they refuse to sell me another sim card only one sim per passport. Nobody speak english - it was hard to find hotel. The key to success in china is know places and people - than is everything possilble -starting pointis taxi drivers. But you have guides everywhere too easy ;)
@24:40 is the most important part. China is weird, it's different and full of often annoying rules and all that, but it's so crazy and out there that everyone would do themselves a great service to go see it for themselves. It's so big and there are so many amazing things going on. @14:55 is just a soy sauce braised egg, a very common Chinese snack. They're great!
Some foreigners are upset when they asked and find out there's no problem in Hong Kong. Usa is not free, uk is not free and that's common sense. You only target on these fabricated stories about China isn't persuasive at all when you don't see anything else going on elsewhere. Did you ever stand up for Palestine? Did you speak for the refugees in UK whom are about to send to Africa?
James thanks for coming to Asia. I'm an up and comer moving over to Berlin from Bangkok. The music scene isn't really that expansive yet, hence not having the equipment, but the people really want the music.
Seeing from UT, more and more foreigners are traveling in China, some of which encounter many difficulties in China. That's common but avoidable. If you are willing, you can find someone who speaks English to help you plan your trip. Based on the places you want to visit, we can help you find local cuisine, attractions, and learn about the culture and history. We can also assist you with transportation and accommodation during your trip, helping you avoid many pitfalls. As you get to know China better, you will love it here.
wow, amazing to see you have crazy fans in China! sigh, China didnt used to be so many rules years ago as what i remember. hope it becomes more open in the future
only the Hefei have these regulations, other cities don't have these rules😅 in China it's not that strict,as long as you don't do anything illegal, the government allowed to use vpn
Welcome to Hefei, I hope that next year's festival will be bigger, with more people, a cooler stage and a better experience。 It was not an easy task for Hefei to hold such a large-scale electronic music festival for the first time.Too many new attempts, as well as the concerns of the authorities, have led to the organizers facing various constraints, so that this feast of electronic music in the rain does not seem to be as free-spirited as imagined. This is not just a problem in Hefei, but also in China, where only a small number of young people can get involved in the turbulent Western culture. But thanks to its large population base, even electronic music festivals, which are not mainstream in China, can attract a huge number of fans. Many cities in China are trying to enhance their influence and cultural heritage by holding various cultural events, such as music festivals, electronic music festivals, and rock events. Hefei, as an emerging city with scientific and technological innovation as the starting point, is also making such attempts after having a large youth population.
That grocery scene where James is asking "What's this" reminds me of that scene in Borat where he's asking the supervisor about every single product one by one😂

Bro, people got RUclips/INST/etc. VPN is a grey area but every younger person has it or has used it. A lot of stuff is also uploaded to other video platforms in China.
the reason why there are so many stupid rules are just because that Hefei(the city) hold EDM festival for the first time, the government there dont know the rave culture and are also very conservative, this is really bad for both our ravers and DJs. But trust me bro, next time in the citys like shanghai or wuhan or some other city, there would be no such stupid rules😂

Welcome to China, you do not need VPN just roaming is fine. The cost is nothing for a short trip. It is a different world there, the Chinese apps actually are really good, much better than the western in many ways. Like the navigation app Gaode Map, Music App QQ music, Travel App Trip(Xiecheng), TikTok(Douyin), Bilibili(B station) Zoom, and the shopping apps Taobao, JD, PDD are the best, you can buy anything on it. Yes, a modern, safe and happy county that is China.
A soy egg is a type of egg in Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Mauritian cuisine which is boiled, peeled, and then cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, water, and other optional herbs and spices.
You only need to activate the roaming feature provided by your mobile network operator, and you won't need a VPN. You can directly access the internet. However, please note that you must use your own mobile data and cannot use Wi-Fi.
Surprised you have such a big crowd in Hefei! I've been to maybe 10 Chinese cities, and intend to visit another 10 or more. But Hefei never pop up as one of the Chinese cities on the list.
Another tip for using western apps without VPN in China: buy an esim card before you went to China, you have full access of youtube google and so on when you roaming there
Technically you are supposed to have a permit. Pretty much every academic, expat, business and multinational have one. But interestingly the government stance here is if you are smart enough to use a VPN you are smart enough to face the world. This is why there are 350 million people with VPNs and you don't see people getting shut down unless they are doing illegal stuff. Tourists roaming also don't face any restrictions. This is why young people here are incredibly smart and actually know a lot more about the world than we think. If you think about it if the government wanted to control everyone they would prevent them from travelling yet Chinese tourists are the biggest group globally by a mile.
China is rad mad amazing to visit,! Best travel memories are in china after traveling the globe. Yeah the random photos never stop. Sooooo many memories. Don’t believe the hype what you are told . Experience a different culture. We are different yet the same .cheers.
Hefei is my hometown, it is now known for its electric cars industry and other high technology companies (monitor screen;high tech chips ; influencers marketing)and universities here, although it is really lack awareness even around China,it is still a very peaceful and clean city ,and there is a swan lack here surrounded with several skyscrapers. Heard that Hefei recently are hosting some music festival to attract people to go here and enjoy, and also starting to build some reputation is awesome, welcome everyone to visit!😊😊😊

Personally I stand with the moral defenders, humans need moral in some sort of way
You're right.
this is what you do as an organizer in China? what is wrong with moral defenders? a no moral society is what you want?
If you use some special offers, it may cost you even less, much less.

Yeah I had to have my cousin show me how to download and use a VPN (so I can watch YT when I’m staying with my family in China). Before this, I never even knew what a VPN was or what it was used for (because I’m in my early 30s and I’m a tech dinosaur lmao). I barely know how to use an iPhone

I almost went to the festival, so glad that I can watch this vlog. I'm sure it was a special experience for you and all of the Chinese people
Telling James "HYPE" to calm down when his Dj name is literally the opposite of calm down is something else. lmao.

Best moving differently episode !!!!!
It is DJs like you Mr. Hype that are keeping the peace and preventing world war 3 from happening!! keep it up😂🎉
Why do you wish us bad and dont want nice WW3?
Its actually a vaccine for bad virus, but effective vax and for real bad virus, finally.
Normally if your phone were roaming, you should be able to use all western apps. Tea egg is really nothing, but century egg is a real challenge.
tbh last one should get 2 deducted, just because no yellow CDJ

@24:40 is the most important part. China is weird, it's different and full of often annoying rules and all that, but it's so crazy and out there that everyone would do themselves a great service to go see it for themselves. It's so big and there are so many amazing things going on.
@14:55 is just a soy sauce braised egg, a very common Chinese snack. They're great!
I live in Europe, and i can say that many things and rules here are also weird for my chinese friends.
@anglohan5428 thanks, I’m from Hong Kong and it’s free. I’m also in Taiwan very often and they are free too.
@anglohan5428 upset about we Chinese getting back the thing that belongs to us? 😂 What a joker.
I'm soooo excited for this!!!!

OMG i saw myself!! we are the group who asked for photo in your Hefei hotel lobby hahah and was behind you in this video. MAMA IM ON TV!!
wow, amazing to see you have crazy fans in China!
sigh, China didnt used to be so many rules years ago as what i remember. hope it becomes more open in the future
only the Hefei have these regulations, other cities don't have these rules😅 in China it's not that strict,as long as you don't do anything illegal, the government allowed to use vpn
Maybe it's the first rave festival in Hefei. Local officials didn't know what to expect. Rules are there to cover their you know what.
The China city I'm in right now is crazy fun, got to love getting em messages
Welcome to Hefei, I hope that next year's festival will be bigger, with more people, a cooler stage and a better experience。
It was not an easy task for Hefei to hold such a large-scale electronic music festival for the first time.Too many new attempts, as well as the concerns of the authorities, have led to the organizers facing various constraints, so that this feast of electronic music in the rain does not seem to be as free-spirited as imagined.
Haha, I look forward to your next visit to China. See you in Suzhou See you at EDC Music Festival.

Small China cities are able to compete with the best of the best in the States. From the days where my area was all farm to it turning into a total nightlife of wild buildings and beautfiul restaurants
kinda of sad, I got a notice that you were performing at Been Beijing, and I had another set elsewhere and couldn't cancel so I didn't end up coming. however tho there is quite a lot of foreigners in China, included foreign DJs. Next time you come, I will make sure I m free and I can show you around, my treat.

Bro, people got RUclips/INST/etc. VPN is a grey area but every younger person has it or has used it. A lot of stuff is also uploaded to other video platforms in China.
China is so well organised and developed. There are tens of millions foreigners working, studying and traveling in China.
I was so happy to see James Hype in vac, welcome to China again!!!❤
glad you had fun. been here since 1996 been wild.
the reason why there are so many stupid rules are just because that Hefei(the city) hold EDM festival for the first time, the government there dont know the rave culture and are also very conservative, this is really bad for both our ravers and DJs. But trust me bro, next time in the citys like shanghai or wuhan or some other city, there would be no such stupid rules😂
This comment should be pinned. Thats exactly why all those absurd security rules were there during the festival.
@@dingyanmezi5373 Before a safety accident, all the rules were foolish.

You only need to activate the roaming feature provided by your mobile network operator, and you won't need a VPN. You can directly access the internet. However, please note that you must use your own mobile data and cannot use Wi-Fi.

What you need to know when you come to China: Safety and stability always come first
Civilization is one of China's political correctness
since when is VPN illegal? many foreign youtubers openly advertising VPN services all the time.
