I'll give them that they do encourage support of the official media, but I think the issue is probably that the TFS version is just better than the original, and while it wouldn't work without the original work having been made it still improves on it. It's the definitive version of DBZ

@@itsrectimemedia i talked to him at a con once, surprisingly he told me he was working at funimation Before voicing cloud on machinabridged. The tfs crew reached out to him to voice cloud because of their already close attachment with the company.
I met Sean in person at an event in Toronto. I thought it was strange that his line up was exceedingly shorter than Christopher Sabbat’s. After listening to him give these two fans in front of me a pep talk on why to not do steroids it was my turn to meet him. It turns out he’s an extremely normal person.. which is perfectly fine, I shouldn’t have put him so high up in my expectations. We had a boring conversation about nothing and that was that. I grabbed a picture and went on my way disappointed. And then I met Christopher Sabbat after sitting in his huge line up. Oh my god was he the coolest person ever. He stole my phone from me and recorded a video of himself forcing me to scream as if I was transforming into a super Sayian, and then he joined in with me. Chris then asked about the woman with me being my wife and I replied that she was indeed. He then said in his Vegeta voice “as the prince of all sayians I now bless your marriage”. We talked even more about a couple different things and I left with my faith renewed. Incredible experience.

It also depends on what version the character he’s talking about. His dub version is WAY different then the original Japanese version and Super is different from the DBZ version. DBZA is a parody version, but even the most hardcore fans adore the parody version. Sean’s logic is is horribly flawed.
Sean: I can't watch them cause there's a different Goku voice. Chris Sabat: Their shit is hilarious. I am actually jealous that they get to make fun of that old dub and we can't.
Wow sabat actually being right about something, still a shit human being, and funimation is a shit company. I hate that I'm used to these voices because I dont want to support their stupidity and toxicity.
Sean had actually supported DBZA prior to this referencing their jokes and saying he enjoyed them. He only backtracked after finding out Toei didn’t like DBZA and kept taking it down. Which fair play to him I wouldn’t want to lose my job over something like that either
Absolutely. I’d believe that if Chris Sabat didn’t whole heartedly support/love TFS. Sounds more to me like Sean is a bit of a egotist and thinks he’s the only one who should voice Goku, the fair use comment is bullshit as otherwise dbza would have been taken down a decade ago.

@@fae7806 I thought Funimation had no problem with tfs and Funimation actually hired some of them to be voice actors cause of how well they did with the voices of DBZ abridged
Pros: - Admits Teamfourstar is talentated despite disagreements. - Legal contract to being Goku is also his personal loyalty because he loves the character as he is, which has some honor. - Asks fans to refrain rather than being disrespectful like telling them to "seriously just shut up about this" or "I'm annoyed of people asking me because I don't care." - Goes into detail so he gives legitimate reasoning and avoids assumptions. Cons (no pun intended): - Doesn't acknowledge (or perhaps know about in his defense) the opening of each episode giving credibility to every production studio and Akira Toriyama as well as Teamfourstar stating they're fans parodying the franchise. - Doesn't acknowledge longtime friend and co-worker Christopher Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo) supports the franchise. - Doesn't acknowledge Kyle Hubert (Gohan) works with them. Although in his defense he may not know this. - Funimation was impressed by voice actors from Teamfourstar and hired them for dub characters, a major contradiction to his word on legal reasons when it comes to certain production studios. Conclusion: Sean Schemmel answered fairly and clearly has a desire to be faithful to the character's accuracy and legal circumstances, but lacks perspective in regards to Teamfourstar and how much they love Dragonball being a parody that's entertaining but overall respectful to the franchise.

That's the thing. Fair use is entirely opinion of the court at the time, as it has no clear legal definition. It's also a US copyright term only, consider that this case can be brought in any country in the world were youtube is available, and nearly all those countries lack a fair use claus. There are legitimate situations where murder could be an opinion like self defence. Your comparison doesn't make any sense. When it's in a grey area like using the companies actual animation for the entirety of your multiple saga series that borderlines on just being an actual dub alternative, just like in self defence it becomes a matter of opinion wether it falls to one side or the other. I saw Sean and Chrs Sabbat at a convention in Sydney once and somebody asked Chris at his panel whether he liked DBZ Abridged and he said that he does. However, he warned us to spread the word around not to ask Sean that question, because he feels quite strongly about it. Now I can see what he meant.
Sean is entitled to his own opinion on the matter, fuck off if you don’t agree with it at least he has the spine to stick to his principals. Even if he is wrong
@@TheDelethar Thank you. Sean has an opinion. Just because it's not yours doesn't make him a bad person. He said it's funny but at the end of the day teamfourstar BARELY gets away with what they're doing. I love dbza and the actors but they perpetually skate on thin ice and every fan knows that
Honestly, he sounds like it’s in his contract to be outspoken against TFS. He sounds like he’s the official mascot of Toei Animation and thereby DBZ. Everything he says is based around him currently working as Goku. Although his last line is simply bullshit as he makes it sound like he wants the corporations to win vs the legality of fair use.

This video shows that even with proof ignorant people will willingly stay ignorant even when they know that they are in the wrong...
Yes, and he’s expressed complaints against the writing of this character in the past as well. He loves his character and has strong views on what direction he should develop.
If he loved the character that much, he would take note. Goku is the most carefree and happy go lucky character who kisses nobody's ass and is always breaking rules. This includes Goku in Super. Sean Schemmel is nothing like Goku.
If anything, TFS makes people rewatch the old original dragonball stuff, or it even attracts new people to the dragonball franchise in general via RUclips... So in my opinion it is a good thing
The sole reason I decided to get a funimation subscription and rewatch DBZ, as well as pick up DB and DBS was because TFS got me back into the series. I love his work, but fuck Sean Schemmel.
"The following is a non profit fan base parody." "Please support the official release." -parodying is legal. -no one thinks that they made the animation. -sometimes they actually fix animation errors, plot holes and so on. -they're all die hard fan boys. -the money mainly comes from patreon which is literally just other fan boys paying them to make more. - and every single episode, movie or special tells the viewer to go out and watch the original show. Only a guy like him can find any problem with TFS.
@@weridify Contracts are a bitch... though, too be fair, I can see where Sean's coming from. I heard that Mark Hamill would record lines as the Joker, for amusement parks, for very little money... because he was very protective of his role, and didn't want someone to do what he saw as a bad job. Granted, that's hearsay, because I haven't heard it from the horse's mouth, but I can understand someone being protective of a role they've been doing for over a decade, now.
Funny thing is Chris actually lent his voice for the Bardock special and he didn’t lose his job. I feel like Sean was just hating on TFS because of how big they were getting.

Sean is a fuckin loser, bro. He's probably bitter that they sort of make fun of Goku. And they don't even do half the damage to the character that Super has. Sean is just dumb, plain and simple.
For awhile I think a lot of people didn’t. TFS was practically at war with RUclips over that copyright issue. But it looks like they won. To this day all 60 episodes are accounted for plus movies.
ゼレフZeref it does reduce characters to one dimensional parodies of themselves. It’s a comedy show but Sean probably adores Goku so seeing them use characters and make them literally just jokes has every right to irritate him. TFS is hardly an abridged series anymore. They’ve got their own universe, different character dynamics, and the characters are reduced to a very shallow version of what they once were. So Sean has every right to find disdain for their project.
Yet Christopher Sabat (voice of vegeta, arguably the same "rank" of importance as goku to the show) actually voiced characters in TFS DBZA (uncredited) and got them (TFS) to be part of the final episode of DBZKai
Why are people surprised he changed his mind. He litterly represents the dubbing cast of english dragon ball as gokus voice actor. He can't control what the conpany wants. He has to go with their requests so that he doesn't lose his job

It’s different when the creators themselves hire you to help make something versus an unaffiliated third party gaining success and traction off of a project without the original creator’s consent or affiliation. And when I say success, I don’t just mean money. Make no mistake: the *only* reason TFS has a name for themselves is due to their abridged content. Look at the numbers for FF7MA, HUA, and DBZA versus their original content and podcasts. Drastically, drastically higher. I love DBZA and I’m really sad to see it go, but I also have to see this from the creators’ POV. It’s not just about the money. Other people are getting attention (and to an extent, yes, even merch sales) off of your original work.
The source material is 30 years old, corporate goons never seem to understand how well made fan fiction can reinvigorate the consumption of an old product.

Olkard most likely, as we've seen saying the wrong thing could heavily impact his future career as goku, and just in general I believe he's just being careful
Funny thing is isn't there voice tracks from TFS on Xenoverse for the custom fighters like I think Nappa for one? DBZA was made out of love for Dragon Ball what is wrong with that?
Toei actually pressured funifuck into cutting ties with several of the core TFS V/A's in the past, so probably something to do with that. also fuck funifuck.

They don’t monetize off dbza....it’s a fan based parody that just happened to be loved by millions... they have other channels with original content to make their revenue
Without their abridged series, they wouldn't have the fan base they have now. They have been able to make money off of RUclips because of the attention DBZA brought them.

For people upset with the poor guy, Sean has shown his appreciation for TFS before. He just kinda has to say this due to job security. The edit was to fix a typo.

Well it's been ruled on by a judge (multiple times) who does have a legal opinion, and they said "it is a legal parody so get fucked." I clicked on the video because I like Dragonball and TFS. I'm saddened to see the voice actor and Toei being so douchy in their opinion of a fan project enjoyed by other fans (that has been ruled a legal parody so get fucked).
He really should have said "I can't say much about it. I think they're really talented and funny, but I also need to respect the studio's decisions. I don't know enough about copyright or IP to give a meaningful opinion. So it's pretty complicated, hope you understand."

DBZ has always had this pendulum effect with love and hate for me. I watched DBZ as a kid and into being a young adult. Then Super/Kai comes out and I am like, "Please enough already" DBZa comes out and it's like the best thing ever. Rekindled my love for DBZ while having great humor. Then Sean opens his garbage mouth and I just feel complete disgust for him. Okay, it's his character, and he can feel insecure all he wants to. But dude, it's a parody, no one is breaking any laws. No one is disrespecting the franchise. And if anything, it is drawing peoples attention toward the source material.
One could almost make the argument they helped make super possible by keeping dragonball out and relevant while also introducing the anime to new audiences.
Dude, get a fucking grip. You're insulting a guy for saying he doesn't like a RUclips series you did. You act like he screamed to the audience, telling them they should all go report them to the Toei gods.
Some actors are protective of their image if they represent the Brand the most. Some examples: 1. Jason David Frank (Tommy from Power Rangers) some believe he didnt like the Gritty Power Rangers Fan Film because Saban made him. 2. Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) Peter takes the role seriously and dislikes seeing Prime in comedic bits. 3. And most Disney Channel Stars. Disney cut all ties with Miley Cyrus due to her image.
steven alvarez That’s understandable, but we’re talking about the guy who here says “I don’t like that they treat the character like a joke” when there is literal leaked audio of him using the goku voice to fuck around. It’s hypocrisy.
But it’s not like tfs are using the actual voice actors to make the abridged series, if they were then I’d see where Sean is coming from. But he isn’t. It feels like an ego thing. Christopher sabat don’t have a problem with it, in fact he finds it entertaining. Sean needs to realise he’s only known just because he’s playing goku, if he was voicing anyone else no one would care as much about him
I mean it's the same thing he did with the Vic situation. He waited for the almighty Toei to say something and then he agreed with them. Rather than waiting for the facts and doing any kind of research, he condemned a man who proved his innocence.
At most Sean could’ve just said that he’s aware about TFS but can’t comment about the situation with them. Instead he goes on about it being illegal and just sounding like a prick
People who say a parody is better than the original are just kinda wrong from the start. I mean you are aware the parody is a humorous take on the original source material and not its own thing. Honestly due to how dated it is I prefer abridged over the old funimation dub but it’s still the original and technically better. Kai though? Heck no abridged isn’t better. Besides abridged to me is like a love letter towards the original show we all love, it’s not trying to be the “definitive version”.
@@MysticalBacon23 To each their own. You're entitled to your opinion. But TFS does the voices better and the humor better than funimation ever could. And they don't sexually harass their people.
BinTtown the voices is a thing of preference. I prefer certain ones such as frieza and vegeta but others like piccolo are not as good as the dub to me, that being said the original Japanese cast is better than both. As for humor Dragon ball isn’t a show about humor so or course tfs does it better since they are making a comedic spin on it. The harassment part has nothing to do with the quality comparison of the two. I probably won’t be able to enjoy the dub anymore knowing that Chris sabet is a predator, but that doesn’t directly affect the show, just the reputation of the people who made it. That’s like how HP love craft was an extremely racist asshole, that’s doesn’t detract from the quality of his work though.
There is such a thing as legal opinion. Two legal experts won't always agree if something is fair use or not. One judge might say yes, another might say no. I studied copyright law in law school, but it's a very complex topic, so I'm not an expert by any means. In my opinion TFS should qualify as fair use, but it is debatable. Also Japanese copyright law is different from American copyright law, so Toei might be right as far as they are concerned.
That's not what's he's claiming. He's simply stating that he isn't a lawyer and therefore his word shouldn't be taken as legal advice or fact, hence the term opinion
Tuesday it is legal because they're "transforming" the original content in a sense. The footage is sped up in lots of parts, custom mouth flaps are added, not to mention they have their own original voice cast. Even if you tried to make the argument that they use the original DBZ music, it still doesn't count because they talk over it/edit it. It's completely legal.

Pros:
- Admits Teamfourstar is talentated despite disagreements.

- Asks fans to refrain rather than being disrespectful like telling them to "seriously just shut up about this" or "I'm annoyed of people asking me because I don't care."
- Goes into detail so he gives legitimate reasoning and avoids assumptions.
Cons (no pun intended):
- Doesn't acknowledge (or perhaps know about in his defense) the opening of each episode giving credibility to every production studio and Akira Toriyama as well as Teamfourstar stating they're fans parodying the franchise.

“Non-Profit fan based parody” its actually completely legal, which is why they’ve won their previous disputes with Funimation... This is why Vegeta is my favourite 👍🏻
Except that's a lie, since they are clearly making a profit from the merchandise they sell from their parody. It's a very rundabout way, but they are making a profit with it, so what they claim is a bold-faced lie.
It was stopped being advertised as “non-profit” a long time ago.
The words "non-profit" were removed from the disclaimer ages ago.
They are however getting a bit far away from the "parody" part too. A parody is supposed to say something about the source material in order to be legal, and DBZA began doing that less and less.

Bryan Lariviere your comment sir should win the prize !!
That's exactly why we have trials of people claiming self defence where if proven as self defence they can get away scott free with what happened. That court process is essentially a matter of the court/juries opinion on if it falls more in line with self defense than murder.
I get that as the guy who voices the main character he has to toe the company line. He probably was told don’t show support and say this or we’ll find another Goku.
