Randy is too shy to mention, but he was the owner of New Versity Theater in downtown Palo Alto, CA in 1980s. It showed Indy films, 2 -3 days at a time. Once in a month of so, Michael played a show (and Tuck and Patti did, too). In this video, he's playing at the courtyard (restaurant) but later he played at the theater stage. Michael moved to Mendocino in 1986? I've been to many shows - Doc Watson and Michael Hedges (1982?). Oh Ackerman, de Grassi and Hedges all in one night! Thanks for posting

Saw him play at a Tibetan relief benefit concert at a high school in CT many years ago. Also there that night was the great dance group Pilobolus. During an intermission, before Michael came on, he was standing in the auditorium lobby by himself. No one recognized him. I walked up and he was really nice. He didn't seem to mind at all that no one recognized him and said he was having a great time watching Pilobolus perform. He then said that the members of Pilobolus mentioned putting a harness on him, connected to bungee chords that would be connected to the ceiling, and they would pull him around and bounce him up and down while he was playing acoustic guitar. He was laughing while he mentioned it.
During his set there was a break, the curtains opened, and Michael started playing... bouncing up and down while connected to bungee chords. It was hilarious and he was still amazing on guitar.

A few weeks ago I sort of stumbled on Michael playing the Cockburn song 'Wondering where the lions are. On RUclips. I immediately was deeply touched. I do love his music, his singing, his deep authenticity, his deep connection with every thing he sings and plays. So grateful for discovering this great and alas late talent. In the early 80s, Michael came to Germany as an opener for Suzanne Vega. He played his magic and enchanted the hall. After several encores, Suzanne came on stage and thanked the audience with the words: Hey! Are you in a special mood?

Thanks again Randy ! You are awesome. Love this performance. Michael isn't scared to change the melody a bit to make it his own. When he hits that high note at 04:04 you know it's not because he can't do it exactly like Stills. Such great pipes on this man, combined with his eccentric sense of rhythm it is a special thing. I miss Mr. Hedges.

I saw him sometime in the early/mid 80s. By then I'd been playing guitar for between five to ten years and in one night he changed the way I thought about and played the guitar for the rest of my life. So naturally talented and, yes, as others have said he was just a beautiful gentle soul that left us far too early

and said " how do you always get that same seat? " I said " because I am 6"5" tall

Yeah I'm only 20 years old and I live in Australia, but I'm an avid listener of various kinds of older music. My mother especially listens to this kind of stuff, and Crosby Stills Nash and Young - who, as it says in the description of this video, he apparently used to open for. So yeah a little surprised I haven't come across him sooner. I only happened across Michael's music through another video on here a couple days ago - but boy am I glad I've found him.

Swains House of Music....the good ol days .
I lived at the Cardinal Hotel for six months. Waiting for a bed at the Palo Alto V.A.
    1979.
Later I watched him at the Varsity , upstairs in a tiny little room.
He had different tuning and my first taste of guitar from the 440 pitch.
He was very kind and would talk to you.

The NVT had two great acts back in the early '80's that went on to be quite successful. One was Micheal Hedges and the other was Tuck & Patty. The New Varsity Theater, as it was known back then, had free music on Saturday nights, if my memory serves me. I loved the Varsity and went there a lot. I saw them both so often back then in the courtyard that I never gave them a thought beyond that they were just local musicians playing at the Varsity. Little did I know. How sad it was that Michael Hedges died at 43. He was a kind and brilliant musician.

Unbelievable. I only just discovered this guy and I feel a little ashamed about it. Such an amazing guitar player and singer - it's amazing that I haven't come across him at an earlier stage in my life. At least I know of him now, must buy some of his stuff.

    Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
    [Part 1]
    [Verse 1]
It's getting to the point where I'm no fun anymore
    I am sorry
Sometimes it hurts so badly, I must cry out loud
    "I am lonely"
    [Chorus]
I am yours, you are mine
    You are what you are
    You make it hard
    [Verse 2]
Remember what we've said and done and felt about each other
    Oh baby, have mercy
Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now
    I'm not leaving
    [Chorus]
I am yours, you are mine
    You are what you are
    And you make it hard
    [Instrumental Bridge]
Tearing yourself away from me now--you are free
    I am crying
This does not mean I don't love you--I do, that's forever
    Yes and for always
    [Chorus]
I am yours, you are mine
    You are what you are
    You make it hard
    [Verse 3]
Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret
    Are you still listening?
Fear is the lock and laughter's the key to your heart
    And, baby, I love you
    [Chorus]
I am yours, you are mine
    You are what you are
    And you make it hard
    you make it hard
    you make it hard
    you make it hard
    [Part 2]
    [Instrumental Bridge]
Friday evening, Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
Tuesday morning, please be gone, I'm tired of you
What have you got to lose?
Can I tell it like it is?
    Listen to me, baby
It's my heart suffering and dying
And that's what I have to lose
    [Chorus]
    {I've got an answer
    I'm going to fly away}
What have I got to lose?
Will you come see me Thursdays and {Saturdays}☺️
What have you got to lose?
    [Instrumental Bridge]
    [Part 3]
    [Verse]
    Chestnut brown canary
    Ruby throated sparrow
Sing a song, don't be long
    Thrill me to the marrow
    {Voices of the angels
    Ring around the moonlight
Asking me, said she's so free
    How can you catch the sparrow?}
    Lacy, lilting lyric
    Losing love, lamenting
Change my life, make it right
    Be my lady
    [Part 4]
    [Outro]
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do-do-do
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do-do-do
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do{whistle}
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do-do-do
    Do-do-do-do-do, do, do, do-do

I absolutely love it when great artists, and great composers in their own right, do "covers".
"Covers" doesn't quite do it, more like what k.d. lang called her album of great Canadian songs...
    "Hymns of the 49th Parallel".

Oh yeah, “I know ONE Crosby stills and Nash song.” So non chalant. That song is THE ONE! Right after his high note at 4:13 you can see where the song really connects to him personally and he transmits that to us. It’s a little blip but if you are musician that ever plays cover songs you know what I mean.

From the CSN box set (notes under "Black Queen"), Michael said "I got everything I know from Stephen Stills. Those people that thought Clapton was God hadn't heard Stephen Stills play acoustic guitar."

hey man you did a great job either recording each individual song or recording the show then edditing it and posting it on here. much thanks as always. But i cant help but wish i could see these shows in their entirety if you recorded them as thou, with his tunings and talkn in between. even if all the material is posted for each concert, but seperated into one song portions, itd be sweet to experience any of these shows begining to end, kinda feel like your experiencing what the audience did.

SJBE - ruclips.net/video/jEY0Wbyms4s/видео.html STEPHEN STILLS: i’d like to dedicate this song to MICHAEL HEDGES because if i had anythin’ to do with gettin’ that kid as good as he is {YEAH: Graham} ~ i’m proud of it. ♡ Nov 18, 1989 CSN gave a benefit concert at the United Nations General Assembly Hall, New York City. OPENING ACT: MICHAEL HEDGES / "It was broadcast live on WKRQ in New York with Michael Hedges performing before CSN. It was one of the most incredible concerts I have ever listened to. "/ "I was at this concert back in 1989, when Crosby, Stills and Nash performed at the United Nations. That was a historic event and I agree one of the best concerts ever. All the incredible energy that is present in the General Assembly Hall combined with the live music created an unforgettable event."/ “I saw Michael Hedges perform with CSN at, of all places, the United Nations back in 1989. Dude did stuff with the guitar - ACOUSTIC guitar -- he could get the strangest, most original sounds -- organically -- out of the instrument. If I knew what genius was, I'd guess he was one.”/ CSN '92 acoustic tour w MICHAEL HEDGES - opening act

You can find lots of tutorials on RUclips on how to play this but you kind of have to watch this to get a sense of how to play and sing it totally solo. Seemed to be a walk in the park for Michael.
