  • Today on the smallholding I am making an outdoor worm bed. I have decided to increase the size of my herd of worms so I can try to make more vermicompost for my smallholding.

It’s all a learning curve and that’s what makes it interesting 🧐. Cost is horrendous we live in BC surrounded by lumber and mills and we pay through the nose for wood. So we use what we can and by used when possible. Heavy yes but durable priceless 👍👍. Would varnish harm the soil/manure and therefore the worms 🪱? Look forward to seeing your updates 👍👍

You could even put terracotta piping underneath and produce your own worm juice, from the same bed. Just a thought. Brilliant idea mate.

Consider a woven willow screen? Help keep it cool, shade and insulation.

There’s limited room around the bed, I’m hoping my loganberry and others climbers will give some protection
