    Lighthearted and fun 😊I love trying different experiments too. Curiosity can be such a great motivator; inquiring minds want to know.

    I’ve got four different experiments going right now. I’d set up one more but ran out of room!!! I love to figure out what each of my worm species prefer. They are so fun to play with. I’m considering trying ANC’s next spring. We get so cold in winter and my bins inside sit around 68-69*F in since we keep the heat at 67F or so. Would they do okay that low? My blues slow down but they are still doing well and nobody’s tried to escape recently. They can’t get out if they tried though. I’d hate to get ANC’s and have them die.

      I think they’ll do ok but they will definitely slow down and if it gets colder you might lose a few

      @@TheGardenAndWormLady oops, meant to type after winter or next spring! I’m going to change that! Good to know they’ll do okay. I’d like to start with 50 or so before going all in though. I started with 100 blues now I have thousands, so 50 might be enough since I won’t sell them for a year or so, that way I can tell people what to expect year round.
      Thanks for sharing all you do. It’s so helpful to those of us who are looking at selling. You have some great general tips too! I’ve been around worms forever it seems (not as long as you though) but there’s always more to learn.

      @@TheGardenAndWormLady me too. I have a notebook with a list of ideas! It’s pretty long right now and people keep giving me more to add! Maybe I should stop watching RUclips 🤣

    I've had a worm bin in my garden for close to a year now, devastated at the frost in the UK seems to have wiped my population out :(
    I've a giant bin for food scraps and have just been taking the tea as liquid fertiliser for my garden.
    Is the reasons for your collection of smaller trays so that you have a higher worm growth for selling etc? With my bin basically dieing off I'm looking to improve my set up in the new year.

      DoEs your garden worm bin have holes on the bottom with the container sitting on the ground?
      My outdoor worm bin sits on the ground in the garden. During the winter, the worms, go deep and leave the eggs behind. When it starts to warm up in the spring, I noticed that they return and the eggs hatch.
      Yes, the reason for the smaller bins indoors is to increase their population

      @@TheGardenAndWormLady I've got one container with the worms and another with it inside so I can collect the tea. We had 4 days of frost that just built on itself to the point of the castings being solid.
      Do you think I could get some smaller trays for indoors and divide the castings up and see if I get some hatch?

    • @TheGardenAndWormLady
      @TheGardenAndWormLady  2 года назад +2

      @@adampalmer8026 yes absolutely see if it works. You just have to keep it moist. Cover it with a damp newspaper and a piece of plastic. Try to put it in a warm spot and maybe they’ll hatch.

    Hungry hippos. It's like a geological ice core survey my bins, keep adding at top. It will be interesting to see what they went through. I keep it simple. But it's fascinating, boom everything you put there last time is gone. Repeat.

    Do you sometimes find worms in large numbers in your castings? I know they will not be able to live in their poo.

    • @TheGardenAndWormLady

      There will be worms in there, but if you don’t add fresh bedding, and they will eventually die

    How do you work with anc worms.

    • @TheGardenAndWormLady
      @TheGardenAndWormLady  2 года назад +1

      It’s kind of the same but yet there are some differences. They like more carbon like paper and cardboard and paper towels and junk mail and leaves. They are also very cold sensitive so they have to be inside a warm house or a greenhouse that is heated.

    Love your channel, but must admit I cheat on you sometimes and go to other channels. In some of them they say you must not seal the bins for your castings because the microbes needs oxygen? Thanks you from a sunny South Africa!

      😂 don’t worry, I go to other channels too. I do put the lid on mine, but it is not 100% airtight.
