I bought a Leica Q2 last week (kind of an impulse buy) and it's great hearing this info from your videos. You remind me of a teacher I had in post-secondary, both inspiring and have a knack for pushing creativity! Today will be my first time using the camera as a second body for an event. Watching this video gave me a bit more confidence going into the event. Woohoo, time to crush it!
THANKS! I have a Q and have been experimenting with it and have been having fun. I have prints made and hand them out to friends and family. You have given me some geat ideas to try out and they are much appreciated!!!
Fantastic images from your Studio. You seemed liked a rabbit in headlights a little talking about the trigger and how it works remotely with your flash heads. Would love to know more about a leaf shutter, you passed on that so quickly.
Love your photography. I love the dark moody shoots. I also have a Leica Q2 and will be trying out your suggestions! Keep up the great content! You are awesome!
You’re oozing an elevated confidence, Ben and it’s good to see. Almost post-covid and work coming in, is like manna from Heaven to a creative like yourself. Go create as you’re firing on all cylinders now!
Just got the Q2 and really excited to work with it and your video is extremely inspiring and looking to shoot with flash (still need some education on manual flash work ;)
Thanks for all of the inspiration, ideas, and technical advice over the last ~100 videos. I'm going to put the blame/thanks partially on you for selling some old/heavy/slow camera gear and buying a lighter and faster camera. After a year shooting this camera, I'm finally defaulting to Manual mode and loving experimentation even more than hitting a perfect sharp photo every time. Thanks and keep it up!
Great video I purchased the Lightpix flash which works withe my Leica Q it has a small half inch hot shoe reciever and I just hold that little flash in my other hand to direct the light and I’m loving it! I too have some nikon flashes but they’re really bulky on the Q thanks foe the videos!!!
Some great tips here, Ben. I feel the urge to experiment with flash again. Thanks for the video. Stumbled on your videos early on in the pandemic and have watched regularly. Love seeing your photographs and listening to your stories.
Another great video Ben - Thank You! I have a question about using strobes with the Q2. Particularly when you're outdoors and the light is constantly changing depending upon where you are/direction/ time of day etc. - have you ever tried putting the Q2 in auto to get the background more or less correctly exposed, then subtracting a stop or 2 with the exposure compensation and using the flash (on manual power) to add back the missing light on the subject? It's maybe not as tweakable as working in fully manual mode but it gives you the flexibility to work more quickly in changing light and separate the subject from the background a little. I experimented with this approach and it seems to work pretty well, but I would be curious to hear your thoughts on it.
@@adventureStaley Assuming that your camera's auto iso can keep the sensitivity within a useable range, it offers the flexibility of being able to adjust aperture and/or shutter speed on the fly as the shot requires, and with the exposure compensation set to -x, the auto exposure ensures that you will always shooting be at -x stops. The only variable you need to worry about beyond that, is the manual power setting for the flash which might need to be tweaked for changes in subject distance/light/shadow etc. etc.
Hi, I just got a Q2 Monochrom today and tested it with my Godox Ad200 pro. I couldn't get it to fire although it worked with my Pocket Wizard. Any thoughts?
Cool video! Im a flash photography novice. Im curious how one knows which flash trigger will work with which flash. What are the specific one's your using? Can you recommend a small set up for travel? Thanks!!
@@adventureStaley yes sir, I didnt catch at first if they were the same brand and what that was. So you can expect the trigger to fire any flash of that brand, but can't mix and match brands I'm guessing. Thanks!
Too bad you can’t bolt that lovely Nikon 105 onto the Q2. Could be entertaining. :) I went out and bought one of those old 105 Nikons on your recommendation. You speak truth sir. It’s a wicked awesome bit of glass. Thank you.
@@adventureStaley You are more than welcome. I just found your channel and ordered my Q2 yesterday. Very impressed by your work. Looking forward to using it myself. Great holidays to you and your family.
I wish there would be more cameras with central shutter lenses, or with a a faster sync speed, even 1/500 would be some improvement. Sony proved it's possible! to go that way When I started in the late 70's, we had this feature in all the medium format cameras we used then. Would be fantastic to get that conveniance in cameras with a good af!
This is very interesting - I use the q2 to compliment my S3 because leaf shutters rock for wedding photography - I switched from Hass H6D 100c and X1D for a faster outfit on location - also no dedicated Hass flash means too many compromises - none of which are ideal
Question for you : Can you Tether with a Q2? Also I saw you taking photos at the Sepulveda Wash .. How the heck did you get in there? Did you have to pay or get permission ? Always tried to get in but dont know where to go ..Thanks great videos
No. There are no ports on the camera. You can connect it to an app and download photos but it doesn’t really work like tethering. There is a place you can walk in. Hard to explain….
great video Ben. Ive also been trying out some new portraits with flash in. the last year and by coincidence I have the same gear as you Good 600Pro, V1 and an AD200 as well. great flash and not expensive. really like the look of your 7ft umbrella! pm me if you want a link to my portfolio to see my recent stuff. Keep it up man!
Waaww, this time your music (around 3') was very spacy! Maybe you could have elaborate a little more on the advantages of a leaf shutter for some folks...
You are amazing at what you're doing- communicating. Keep going. You might want to check out an old friend of mine- Clarence John Laughlin. He was a friend and mentor many years ago. Check out his photographs.
I was so sure I wanted to buy it that I was about to sell all my equipment. I am not a professional photographer. And I don't like putting on and taking off lenses. So I'm looking for a compact but that was quality. Both constructive and of images. I've seen all your reviews about it. Then I came across Ken Rockwell's review (I'll leave it at the bottom of my comment). This review tears the Q2 apart by proving that the jpegs of an Iphone 11 pro are much better (there are comparison photos). And he defines the Q2 as a car for jocks. And that to take serious photos you have to buy cameras from other brands. At this point I'm really very confused and don't know what to think. If you give me a hand I would be grateful. Are the photos really at the level of an iPhone?
@@Stesalti Okay I skimmed it. Wow. He says some seriously ridiculous stuff. Very weird. And I have no pony in the race. I dont care wha camera anyone uses. This is just silly man. But save a lot of money and use you iphone...
