Considering how they were also high school buddies, I'm pretty sure the whole timeline got kinda doomed when the two of them were drunk one time and one of them went "HeY ToM LoOk I PuT GoOGLy eyES On thE ToasTEr" And the other went "Haha it's cute... It has feelings now!"
While a fair assumption to make, idk if it's the best design. He could have been going through a phase for all we know. lol Personally I prefer the one from Rockman Megamix.

After that, Wily grew to hate Light and became a criminal trying to take over the world to prove that he's better than him. Light created two robots to help him in his daily life and his research, Rock and Roll. Most of the time, Wily steals robots created by Light and turns them evil to achieve his goal, though he does sometimes create his own. Because of this, Rock volunteered to be given weapons by Light, and becomes Mega Man, who is the one to stop Wily everytime he attempts to take over the world. At the end of their lives, Wily and Light eventually go to create one robot with complete free will, so advanced that even 100 years later their technology remains unheard of and even a mystery. Light created X as a successor to Mega Man and to create a robot as close to a human as he could, while Wily created Zero, with the goal to surpass Light's creations (though neither knew of the other's creation at the time). X was then put in a pod for testing for 30 years, while Zero went insane and Wily shut him down and created what became the Maverick Virus to rewire him, also putting him in a pod, both waiting to be discovered and awakened. X is discovered by Dr Cain 100 years later, who then creates the Reploids based on his circuits. However, these Reploids are faulty because their artificial intelligence lacked the amount of ethical testing X had), and some became violent, becoming Mavericks. However, note that these were Mavericks only because of lack of ethical testing, not because of the Maverick Virus, which turns even Reploids that wouldn't have gone violent into Mavericks. Zero was also found later on, and and immediately went crazy and attacked Sigma, who was infected by the Maverick Virus during the fight. Zero then faints, and goes back to normal with no recollection of the event. Shortly after, Zero becomes a Maverick Hunter, and Sigma goes Maverick along with higher ranking Hunters. Zero, being the highest ranking that didn't rebel, lead the charge, though X defeated Sigma and became a Hunter as well, with him and Zero, as well as eventually Axl (who sadly isn't really relevant to the plot) become teammates that fought side by side. At the end of the X timeline, Zero decides to give up his body for testing to find a cure for the Maverick Virus (since he's patient 0). Dr Weil steals his body for his own purposes, which starts the Elf Wars, an incredibly bloody battle where most of humanity and Reploids are killed. X and Zero (in a replacement body) defeat Weil, and Zero is eventually sealed again. 100 years after, Zero is reawakened (though is amnesiac) by a scientist named Ciel to fight Neo Arcadia, ruled by a tyrannic copy of X, while the real X is separated from his body and is only a digital body called a Cyber Elf. Dr Weil, having survived, attempts to take over the world again with Omega (who is in Zero's original body), but he is destroyed by Zero, where X's Cyber Elf expires. He then attempts to fuse with the Ragnarok space station to crash it on Earth, but is once again stopped by Zero, who dies alongside Weil, making Zero succeed in his original goal of surpassing Dr. Light. I'm not gonna go into ZX and Legends, since they don't focus on what you asked about, but basically had Wily not grew bitter about Light's project being favored over his, he would've never taken over the world, Rock wouldn't have to become Mega Man, and he could've potentially worked again with Wily to create a world where X (and maybe even Zero) would've been able to live in peace, or where at the very least where the Maverick problem would've been much easier to deal with.

@@BinglesP Fair enough, there's so much unexplored lore such as the Elf Wars and the creation of Carbons. Both which get pretty dark if you connect the dots together. Sadly, we can only speculate but on the bright side, it does give leeway for theories and whatnot.

To be fair, i've heard it it being reffered as baby's first cyberpunk, and while it may sound insulting at first, i take it as it being the first experience many of us had with deeper themes and lore once you dig deeper than "blue robot steals 8 other robots powers and beats an old man with them"

Wily: **hijacks light's creations, using them to cause chaos, makes his own robots when he is defeated by another one of light's robots, joins light again to build a peace keeping robot, betrays light, takes the prototype for rockman, protoman and uses the prototype to defeat rockman and steals the peace keeping robot, blackmails a Russian scientist, frames blues, takes the identity of a person called Mr. X to host a tournament for robots steal the robots, goes to prison, gets freed by four of his robots made just in case something like this happened, makes his version of rockman and rush, bass and trebble uses bass to get into light's lab to get the blueprints for super adapter, a form for rockman achieved when rockman and rush are together and makes four new robots to cause chaos, gets defeated, starts searching for a form of energy called "evil energy". prepares a brand new fortress, gets kicked from his fortress by a robot called "king" which is trying to take over the world, makes a truce with light to stop king, reveals that king was brainwashed when he is defeated, repairs king and king gets defeated again, reveals that he is working on a robot which will be unstoppable, refuses to elaborate, takes some more of light's robots and informs them about their expiring dates and how they will be useless after the date, convincing them to join him, gets defeated by rockman again, creates a robot virus causing robot to go evil called "roboenza" which effects one of light's creations, roll which motivates rockman to team up with protoman to find a cure, the virus also effects rockman but a sample of the cure is given to him by roll and gets defeated by rockman again. Remembers about the argument he had with light and uses the speed gear to enhance his robots, gets defeated by rockman again. The "unstoppable robot" is infected by a virus called the maverick virus during creation, dies while the unstoppable creation is in development. A century later his "unstoppable robot" is named zero, a reploid marked as a maverick and transfers the maverick virus to another reploid called Sigma, zero finds a companion called "X" and becomes a maverick hunter with x, zero dies, gets revived, dies again, gets revived again, goes into a slumber until the maverick virus which still thrives inside zero is dead, zero wakes up and a series of wars occur due to zero**
I'd love to get some games handling the Elf wars, and if there's any left to tell of X fill that in too, and I wish they'd give IDW or someone the right to make Megaman Legends comics because honestly I think that Megaman of all the megamans would do best in a comic series.
Gameplay: *difficult platformer series focusing primarily on gameplay with minimal story scenes* Lore: *No one can remember how it happened. How the world fell under darkness. At least, no one who would do anything about it. No one who would oppose the robots. No one who would challenge their power. Or so Dr. Wily believed...*
Light getting (and not refusing) all the credit for their collab work kicking off the 1st game sparked all this. The college idea thing from the most recent game from a few years back also adds to the reasoning for why he eventually snapped and went "screw you I'm taking over the world lmao" but like imagine You do pretty much all you can to advance sciety and they still don't give you any recognition until you reprogram the robots to do terrorism for you. The fact that in the end Wily's final robot ended up not only outlasting X, but saving the world from a much more evil scientist's schemes means he technically won. He got what he wanted in the end, both his initial goal of helping society before his wacky world power seeking spiral, and his final robot outlasting Light's. Then again it kinda was a cheat because X got shanked by an evil dude in a pink trenchcoat but hey, thems the breaks.
Ehh Zero had been killed twice before X died once it just that X didn't wanna come back after his first time (unless we count the biometals then it 3 deaths for zero and still 1 for X)and also X was active far longer compared to Zero
X managed to beat a long-haired blondie with a sword dozens of times only to be killed by a long-haired blondie with a sword while he sleeps. Poetic...
Actually thats one of the more believable aspects of the mega man lore. Also remember... Megaman 64 takes place thousands of years after the zero series ends, society basically regressed to the original megaman series in terms or tech, which if the apocolypse happened today would be the equivilent of regressing back to the dark ages.

@ZaachIV There were notable differences between their timelines long before Wily and Hikari started their rivalry. See how the Classic timeline has the same countries as our world while BN has ones like Netopia or Creamland. Even Hikari is BN Japanese rather than American.
There is really so many friggin gaps in the Megaman story that you could explore, its ridiculous. I think the biggest ones are what caused Light to create X in the first place, did Zero actually get released to take out the OG Megaman, The Elf Wars, and what series of events led to the world getting flooded. The Elf Wars especially since we already know where some of the major players of that conflict ended up, its like Star Wars A New Hope, you hear about The Clone Wars and its just some big mystery of an event that you know had some cataclysmic effects.
I always figured Megaman Legends would fill in the events to the flood in retrospect of its own storyline, while the Elf Wars and Light making X are the ones that need the gap to actually be filled. (All of which obviously just requires some more games or more canonical story) But for priority I'd give Capcom the transition from Megaman to X first, then the elf wars, and as a stop gap have them give IDW or if there's someone else rights to make Megaman Legends Comics since that has the best adventure Comic story potential.
It art style hide the fact that this series from Rockman to X to Zero to ZX to Dash have the highest human kill counts in gaming history and would add up more if the Carbon was also destroyed.
Wait till WW3 gonna happen and later, a British scientist and German scientist in their younger days of college, were clashing each other over stupid stuff and becoming rivals, it would caused 2 hellish robot apocalyptic by them, just like classic Mega Man timeline!! Lol
All of the sagas(in the main timeline of course) would make fantastic anime or cartoons. I'd love to be the creative director of the Classic one, since I know about all of the more obscure characters and stories that the previous adaptations didn't bring to light(fuck even the MS-DOS trilogy is a goldmine for an animated series)
Mostly, it all started because they rejected Wily's idea on overclocking robot circuits and accepted Lights Idea on making them have Free Will. One idea was super good for society and helped everyone (Wily's), Light on the other hand just wasn't able to get laid and have real kids XD
@@jironamos7650 I think the funniest part in the whole thing is that despite trying to ruin everything, Wily legitimately doesn't have a lasting impact that is more bad than good, at least from his own control. As in, he created Zero to be evil but actually made him good by accident. His virus only became an issue when other people took it and made it one for their own motivations. The entire nonsense from Zero onwards is not even on him anymore. The dude should have just quit and tried again to be legitimately productive, he clearly fails as a villain.

The weird thing is, aliens only came when the earth is not fucked up, like in classic Megaman and BN/SF timeline, in X, Zero and ZX there's no aliens, Idk in Legends.
Legends something caused the flooding of the world and the Elder systems exist to combat something... But no one remembers why, because the Legends 'flood' event is a bigger gap than even the elf wars.
It gets even crazier in some side games/other pieces of Mega Man media, like how there are 2 futures where Mega Man was reprogrammed to obey Wily (rockman and forte 2 and mega man II gb) or how the Mega Man Zero audio dramas explain a bit more about characters, their motivations, etc (like how Elpizo was originally among the group of reploids Zero saved in the fight against Aztec Falcon and how Zero inspired him to rise up the ranks to get where he would in Zero 2 until his downfall)
It's funny to think how in the Classic timeline Willy didn't get the fame he deserved and went full insane with world domination and stuff like that, died without getting what he wanted to then his masterpiece Zero ending up saving both the world and Dr.Light masterpiece X all fighting the threats of the technology... While in the BattleNetwork timeline is actually the opposite (some spoilers down). Even with AIs in the place of Robot Masters Willy went the same route, but at BN6 Light's descendants which is the human Lan and the "AI" Hub actually ends up saving the world, shows to Willy how both a robot and a human can live together and while Rock or X couldn't save Willy, the brothers managed to do it and ended up creating the Brothers System to help people approach others with the help of technology as you can see in StarForce how this system helps so much people like the protagonist Geo itself, and his almost GF Sonia. In the end poor Willy just needed someone to show him how both his and Light's idea could've worked together, it's a shame the franchise is dead and we won't get the end to the Classic, X, ZX, Legends and Starforce timline even tho SF "has" a ending if you don't care about some minor plots left open on SF3.
Its a meme format. Juxtaposing something seemingly simple vs high speed "lore" with the song playing. Its appropriate here though, as Megaman lore spans multiple apocalypses and several iterations of a "hero frozen in time" trope- for example, in the X series Doctors Light and Wily are just "somebody that i used to know" to X and Zero respectively.

Legends is the epilog. The grand culmination of everything Light and Wily set in motion. Tron and Teisel are the dream baby! And ironically that Megaman is/was by far the most powerful... Until his battle with Sera which damaged him so bad he had to revert into a baby form and give up his memories. Because let's not forget Juno was a non-combat administrator model, a civilian pencil pusher.

EXE Series are just as dope in a parallel plane. While they use same concepts, their lore are unique to each other.

Wily: **hijacks light's creations, using them to cause chaos, makes his own robots when he is defeated by another one of light's robots, joins light again to build a peace keeping robot, betrays light, takes the prototype for rockman, protoman and uses the prototype to defeat rockman and steals the peace keeping robot, blackmails a Russian scientist, frames blues, takes the identity of a person called Mr. X to host a tournament for robots steal the robots, goes to prison, gets freed by four of his robots made just in case something like this happened, makes his version of rockman and rush, bass and trebble uses bass to get into light's lab to get the blueprints for super adapter, a form for rockman achieved when rockman and rush are together and makes four new robots to cause chaos, gets defeated, starts searching for a form of energy called "evil energy". prepares a brand new fortress, gets kicked from his fortress by a robot called "king" which is trying to take over the world, makes a truce with light to stop king, reveals that king was brainwashed when he is defeated, repairs king and king gets defeated again, reveals that he is working on a robot which will be unstoppable, refuses to elaborate, takes some more of light's robots and informs them about their expiring dates and how they will be useless after the date, convincing them to join him, gets defeated by rockman again, creates a robot virus causing robot to go evil called "roboenza" which effects one of light's creations, roll which motivates rockman to team up with protoman to find a cure, the virus also effects rockman but a sample of the cure is given to him by roll and gets defeated by rockman again. Remembers about the argument he had with light and uses the speed gear to enhance his robots, gets defeated by rockman again. The "unstoppable robot" is infected by a virus called the maverick virus during creation, dies while the unstoppable creation is in development. A century later his "unstoppable robot" is named zero, a reploid marked as a maverick and transfers the maverick virus to another reploid called Sigma, zero finds a companion called "X" and becomes a maverick hunter with x, zero dies, gets revived, dies again, gets revived again, goes into a slumber until the maverick virus which still thrives inside zero is dead, zero wakes up and a series of wars occur due to zero**

This is honestly why I love Mega Man so much. The gameplay is fine, but it's the lore that makes it so special to me
I'd love to get some games handling the Elf wars, and if there's any left to tell of X fill that in too, and I wish they'd give IDW or someone the right to make Megaman Legends comics because honestly I think that Megaman of all the megamans would do best in a comic series.

Light getting (and not refusing) all the credit for their collab work kicking off the 1st game sparked all this.
The college idea thing from the most recent game from a few years back also adds to the reasoning for why he eventually snapped and went "screw you I'm taking over the world lmao" but like imagine You do pretty much all you can to advance sciety and they still don't give you any recognition until you reprogram the robots to do terrorism for you. The fact that in the end Wily's final robot ended up not only outlasting X, but saving the world from a much more evil scientist's schemes means he technically won. He got what he wanted in the end, both his initial goal of helping society before his wacky world power seeking spiral, and his final robot outlasting Light's. Then again it kinda was a cheat because X got shanked by an evil dude in a pink trenchcoat but hey, thems the breaks.
Ehh Zero had been killed twice before X died once it just that X didn't wanna come back after his first time (unless we count the biometals then it 3 deaths for zero and still 1 for X)and also X was active far longer compared to Zero
X managed to beat a long-haired blondie with a sword dozens of times only to be killed by a long-haired blondie with a sword while he sleeps.

To be fair it is post-apocalyptic so it's like nature got its revenge and sealed most of itself in an eternal flood
Actually thats one of the more believable aspects of the mega man lore. Also remember... Megaman 64 takes place thousands of years after the zero series ends, society basically regressed to the original megaman series in terms or tech, which if the apocolypse happened today would be the equivilent of regressing back to the dark ages.

@ZaachIV There were notable differences between their timelines long before Wily and Hikari started their rivalry. See how the Classic timeline has the same countries as our world while BN has ones like Netopia or Creamland. Even Hikari is BN Japanese rather than American.
There is really so many friggin gaps in the Megaman story that you could explore, its ridiculous. I think the biggest ones are what caused Light to create X in the first place, did Zero actually get released to take out the OG Megaman, The Elf Wars, and what series of events led to the world getting flooded. The Elf Wars especially since we already know where some of the major players of that conflict ended up, its like Star Wars A New Hope, you hear about The Clone Wars and its just some big mystery of an event that you know had some cataclysmic effects.
I always figured Megaman Legends would fill in the events to the flood in retrospect of its own storyline, while the Elf Wars and Light making X are the ones that need the gap to actually be filled. (All of which obviously just requires some more games or more canonical story)
But for priority I'd give Capcom the transition from Megaman to X first, then the elf wars, and as a stop gap have them give IDW or if there's someone else rights to make Megaman Legends Comics since that has the best adventure Comic story potential.
It art style hide the fact that this series from Rockman to X to Zero to ZX to Dash have the highest human kill counts in gaming history and would add up more if the Carbon was also destroyed.

Mostly, it all started because they rejected Wily's idea on overclocking robot circuits and accepted Lights Idea on making them have Free Will. One idea was super good for society and helped everyone (Wily's), Light on the other hand just wasn't able to get laid and have real kids XD

@@jironamos7650 I think the funniest part in the whole thing is that despite trying to ruin everything, Wily legitimately doesn't have a lasting impact that is more bad than good, at least from his own control.
As in, he created Zero to be evil but actually made him good by accident. His virus only became an issue when other people took it and made it one for their own motivations. The entire nonsense from Zero onwards is not even on him anymore. The dude should have just quit and tried again to be legitimately productive, he clearly fails as a villain.

It gets even crazier in some side games/other pieces of Mega Man media, like how there are 2 futures where Mega Man was reprogrammed to obey Wily (rockman and forte 2 and mega man II gb) or how the Mega Man Zero audio dramas explain a bit more about characters, their motivations, etc (like how Elpizo was originally among the group of reploids Zero saved in the fight against Aztec Falcon and how Zero inspired him to rise up the ranks to get where he would in Zero 2 until his downfall)

It's funny to think how in the Classic timeline Willy didn't get the fame he deserved and went full insane with world domination and stuff like that, died without getting what he wanted to then his masterpiece Zero ending up saving both the world and Dr.Light masterpiece X all fighting the threats of the technology... While in the BattleNetwork timeline is actually the opposite (some spoilers down).
Even with AIs in the place of Robot Masters Willy went the same route, but at BN6 Light's descendants which is the human Lan and the "AI" Hub actually ends up saving the world, shows to Willy how both a robot and a human can live together and while Rock or X couldn't save Willy, the brothers managed to do it and ended up creating the Brothers System to help people approach others with the help of technology as you can see in StarForce how this system helps so much people like the protagonist Geo itself, and his almost GF Sonia.
In the end poor Willy just needed someone to show him how both his and Light's idea could've worked together, it's a shame the franchise is dead and we won't get the end to the Classic, X, ZX, Legends and Starforce timline even tho SF "has" a ending if you don't care about some minor plots left open on SF3.

Its appropriate here though, as Megaman lore spans multiple apocalypses and several iterations of a "hero frozen in time" trope- for example, in the X series Doctors Light and Wily are just "somebody that i used to know" to X and Zero respectively.

Legends is the epilog. The grand culmination of everything Light and Wily set in motion. Tron and Teisel are the dream baby! And ironically that Megaman is/was by far the most powerful... Until his battle with Sera which damaged him so bad he had to revert into a baby form and give up his memories. Because let's not forget Juno was a non-combat administrator model, a civilian pencil pusher.
