What would you recommend for a budget friendly mic for atv riding that won't pick up a crap ton of wind noise at higher speeds? I have the hero 12 with media mod. I'd like to run a mic in my helmet when on the trails. My previous mic from paired with a no name brand camera that took amazing video footage but the sound was terrible, all wind noise even with sock, etc.
The Sony headphones sound the best out of the three, with a little dropout by the trees, but the DJI wireless system was the best of all. You mentioned the Ulanzi replacement mount works with the GoPro Media Mod. I've heard from other channels that it does not work well.
Well, the mount I designed with Ulanzi is great, and it works, problem is that the Media Mod is a little too high to allow you to use the DJI quick release, but you can still use the GoPro feet on the Ulanzi mount I designed, so you won't have to unscrew it, you just pull the DJI quick release off the GoPro mount and attach it straight to the GoPro feet. The Sony headphones were painful to listen to in my opinion, but yes, the DJI Mic won hands down.

I would say it was a brave test in our city leaving device so long and so far alone ;)
Can you connect a mini lavalier microphone to GoPro 12 by using just the new Bluetooth connection without using the media mod? If yes will it sound good and what should I look for in the microphone before I buy it so I make sure it will work with GoPro 12 . Thank you
Im going to buy the 12 and take the 11 back. The HDR video and the bluetooth sealed the deal for me. I was looking at spending hundreds to get better wind proof audio so paying $50 more at $349.99 vs $299.99 for 11 is way worth it!
As a Motorcycle Vlogger (different channel name) I used a Sena Headset 30k I think it is quite crisp and better than your Sony Headsets... But this video is SO useful so thank you so much for actually filming it.... If you have a Cardo or Sena or Interphone I would like to see a review on that.... My channel isn't (at this stage) for reviewing accessories... Maybe in the future...
Are you saying that your intercom is able to record audio into go pro hero 12? I am planning to buy either s20x or bluarmor c30. Will I be able to record audio into go pro hero 12. If so does it auto connect once go pro is paused and resumed recording
Do you upload a full review of the Hero 12 Black today? Sold my Hero 10 Black yesterday and cant decide between the Hero 12 and the DJI Action 4. Using it for mountainbiking, snowboarding and wakeboarding. Still have a lot of GoPro accesories and GoPro is cheaper for me. But the DJI should perform better in low light like mountainbiking in the forest but maybe HDR video from the GoPro handles the changing light conditions better? So not sure what i should go with.
I don't see how that's possible, I've used it for 2 days. I think a full review needs more time. I would go with either, they're both great. I think for your use case scenario, the hdr might actually make sense for biking in forests.
It's good if you really need it, yes. Mind you, I see the DJI Mic 2 connects to it, but won't pair, so I'm guessing with a future update it will, and that will be by far the best sound around.
Do you know of any bluetooth mics that don't connect to a receiver? I want 2 seperate, stereo mics to connect via bluetooth directly to the gopro for recording motorcycle rides. I like one microphone by the carburetors and one microphone by the exhaust. I do this with a tascam audio recorder and seperate microphones and a splitter and its a huge pain in the ass. But I fear I'm unique and the only bluetooth mics I'll be able to use are airpods and stuff, with terrible mics and no windproofing.
Huge difference between the DJI mic and the Sony W-1000XM4! Awesome new feature from GoPro (Bluetooth audio) but I don't know that it is enough for me to upgrade from my GoPro 11. Honestly as far as upgrades go I think I'm going to go with the DJI Action 4, or I'll buy a used GoPro 9 as a backup. Great video as always.
The bluetooth option is great, and I hope GoPro will continue to update and improve it. Maybe headphones with better mic will do a worthy job, as my Sony earpods and headphones, which aren't cheap, do a really, really bad job. The DJI Mic is by far the best in audio quality here.
According to my thought, gopro Hero 12 done significant, importent changes compared to gopro Hero11. Considering one year gap, gopro hero 12 done exellent job compared to hero 11
Thanks for making this video. GoPro needs to provide gain adjustments for wired and wireless mics, the existing mic gain options are way behind their competitors and make moto vlogging difficult. :(
Hi Phillip, Nice audio test video! Coming straight from Apple: “If you listen to music or other audio with Bluetooth headphones and then open an app that uses the Bluetooth headphones' microphone, audio quality and volume are reduced. You might also hear static or popping sounds. This happens because Bluetooth has two modes: The first mode is for listening to higher-quality audio. The second mode is for both speaking through the microphone and listening to audio. When Bluetooth switches to the second mode, audio quality is reduced until the microphone is no longer in use.” So from my understanding, BT earbuds uses ADTP profile standards and BT codecs such as AAC (YT and Apple), Sony LDAC or Qualcom’s aptX codecs (to name the top few…LHDC, aptX HD, etc) to stream low latency and higher bit rate audio quality. These codecs are processing audio playback and streaming for listening and not for speaking into mics and hence when using the latter, the audio quality is sub optimal. Not an audio guru but from past experiences talking to others who are explaining to me and then getting lost or checking out! 😂
Hi Phillip, Maybe try Instamic Pro Plus which is a 32bit BT wireless recorder. I’m sure this would be much better but not cheap. It’s tiny and be placed inside helmets to be handsfree but downside are: need to synch audio in post, no 3.5mm jack to use lav mics, and still not using USBC
Hi Phillip, You’re big enough channel that I hope Instamic would provide you one to do a detailed review. It has 3 functions: 1) audio recorder recording internally; 2) wireless mic where the in app can record a video + audio; and 3) hands free BT mic which is most likely you would use with GP12. Definitely overkill but with IP67 where it is waterproof up to 1m for 30min, 32bit float, and includes 3 mounting accessories to use magnet, velcro, and tape. You can buy wind muff and Gopro mounting adapter as well. Anyways, don’t work for these guys but they are too quite with a great product
I want to know how it will work with motorcycle helmet communication systems. Will it connect? Will it capture audio from ALL of the other riders connected to the comms? Or just the single rider? ....hoping a vid comes out about it!
I have no idea, I don't use motorcycle communication systems, but that's a video you could do if you have the system, I'm sure people like you would be interested in the results.
Awesome content. Thank you. I wonder if Bose A20 aviation headset (has Bluetooth) can connect to gopro12 via Bluetooth without using any adapter or aux cables?
Can you use the DJI mics or Rode mics paired directly to the Hero12 using Bluetooth or do you have to use their own receiver plugged in to the GoPro Media Mod? I would love to be able to pair them using only Bluetooth so you don't need to plug anything in and can keep the camera waterproof! I don't know if I'll use a Bluetooth mic to record audio, but I definitely want to try a Bluetooth mic for the voice commands. The GoPro Remo was the accessory I loved most and used most out of any accessory and I was extremely pissed when they abandoned it and never came out with anything to replace it. Regular voice commands don't work unless you're right next to the camera and in perfect silence, but the Remo allowed me to use voice commands from afar and I could wear it on my hat or on my collar so it was always super close to my mouth even if the camera was out of reach. It was perfect for situations where I couldn't use my hands to operate a conventional remote.
No, I'm afraid I've tried all I can, they won't connect directly, so you have to plug the main unit into the 3.5mm. I'm pretty sure GoPro will now drop a GPS remote, much like DJI, so that the peeps that want GPS can pay extra for it and have a remote too.
I think I broached this before on your channel.... I record tennis matches with a Action 3 and a GPH11B that are at courtside. The audio sort of stinks at that distance. I can put a DJI remote transmitter (or equivalent) on court that would take care of the recording, but doesn't allow me to connect to with wireless earbuds to listen in real time to the audio. I can't put on wired headphones as I have to be further away from the action cameras where I am manually recording scoring. Am I missing something as an option?
I understand that, my question is why would you have to listen in real time? If you're worried about clipping, I'd invest in the new Rode Pro, it has 32bit float and is close to impossible to clip.
When I heard about Bluetooth connections in the GoPro 12 I was hoping that the DJI wireless mic would connect directly via Bluetooth so you didn’t need the media mod 😢
Did you manage to get dual channel audio in other scenarios except the one you connect bluetooth microphone? I tried with Media Mod and 3.5mm Mic Adapter, dual channel audio doesn't seems to work.
Hey there, i just gave my GoPro 12 back to my local store. After flashing the labs firmware the camera was fine, but 2 reboots later, the camera doesnt turn on any more and does not charge or anything else. Completely dead gopro 12.
