This game is honestly the deepest and most tactical card game I've ever played. A huge amount of decision points really make it a highly skill based game with a very high skill ceiling, which minimises variance. And its resource system is nothing short of a revolution.
@@cleanliving1612 Coming from Netrunner to L5R I think there's a space for both in my library as they fill different niches. Netrunner has the assymetrical gameplay and feels more direct tension, L5R has great resource management and it's way easier to teach to someone that comes from, let's say, Mitos y Leyendas or most popular TCG's. Also it's a tad shorter, we can probably fit in three L5R games in the space of two Netrunner games, which makes a difference when we want to try stuff out. I have time with a friend that's experienced in TCG's and we're in for mindgames? Netrunner Want something slightly ligher but with depth and that I can try out with mostly anyone? L5R Onitama, Neuroshima Hex and Hive are also great strategy game choices with simple mechanics and plenty of depth, in shorter spans and more portable.
SaiyanAlchemist2 Yeah! Matthew was right then and is still right! This is the rebooted version of the game. Doji Hoturi is now Hotaru, and we're still waiting to see whether they make her get all corrupted like her predecessor. It's amazing how much of the mystery they've been able to retain even now when you can just check everything on the internet.
I like Becca and she is always entertaining, but.. this is not a good way to learn how to play. Why not just show the first 1-2 turns of the game instead?
Well, yeah, I would rather see the full game, but that looks to be on Alpha or Twitch only. I was just suggesting a part of that show on free view to introduce the game instead.
They do play an actual game, if you pay attention to the end of the video they play it on Game the Game. These videos are just the tutorials they release for whatever game they are playing or have played for Game the Game on twitch or Alpha.
I don't know Game the Game or have Alpha. Having someone tell you the rules for a game is not a good way to learn. It would be better to just show part of the video on demand on RUclips instead.
That is fine but if that's what you want I'm sure you can find a video of people playing the game. They are trying to keep the videos under 10 minutes for monetary reasons while giving you the option to watch actual game play, if your not willing to watch Game the Game on twitch or Alpha then it's your problem.
Sitting here watching an adorkable Becca Scott actively making this tutorial more interesting made me realize why I'm still subbed to G&S I enjoy poking around and seeing the new things they're putting out, even if I can't keep up with it all.
My life is full of people that would be like, "Uhhh this is too complex, where's the Monopoly board.", I think the game and the cards do look beautiful though.
Where is all the fun content from this channel? Tabletop, Larps, Titansgrave, Cooptitude, even Super fun awesome party game time... The only reason I am still subscribed is because I wait for that content to come back, at least maybe some of it. Is there any hope?
Becca Scott looking 10/10 ...as usual. Sadly, not interested in this game but thank you for making these how to videos because others have actually gotten me there
if you bought the cards 15 years ago, you bought a different game. the version she shows, is a completely different game than the one created by AEG in 1996.
I used to play this years ago, Emperor Edition to be exact. A really fun game, just not a big community at all unfortunately. I enjoyed it as much, if not more than MTG, and I used to play that at a competitive level until a few years ago
Seems like a great game, just has a bit much going on, I remember a friend trying to get me into it years ago, but went for a different dead fantasy flight game, Star Wars Destiny.
tldr: FF spent years redoing the game to a different system as the AEG ccg, but ended up keeping almost the exact same rules with a few things to make it easier to be a deck building game.
This would have been SO much better on Tabletop with Will Wheaton. I mean even as someone who played a little of the CCG that this game is based off of, which is different even from this version, I am rather lost BEFORE I even hit the end.
Um... in the descript, it says the game will be streamed Last Week 1st) I watched that stream and it definitely was not, it was the Thing 2nd) how do we catch a stream that happened in the past
As always, dial it back a notch. While this video is better than others, her over the top attitude, while potentially fun, works against the video content by being pretty distracting. The over enthusiasm should promote and compliment the content, not detract from it.
i think also this over enthusiasm and style dont make the game look interessting... i think i can't show my gf this video to convince her to play with me the game... This was to much and to fast. Also nothing mention about the clans at all...
i am agreeing with you justin. i get an idea about what she is trying to achieve, but it didnt work for me. also there are some rules that she explained wrong, but i cant be too critical because the ruling for this game isnt as simple as someone may think :D
I want to play this awesome game but I know FFG will just abandon it in a few years and there is no local playgroup specifically because of that reason.
This is for the show Game the Game which has been around as long as Critical Role, This season has only Becca as Host, the previous seasons had Becca and Ivan as hosts. Game the Game rarely has an episode posted on RUclips, same as most shows on the Geek & Sundry Twitch channel other than Critical Role. From what i understand, if there are anymore seasons of Tabletop, it will be without Wil!
shallendor game the game is only available on Alpha, so I don't see how this is a fair trade. Losing one of the 2 good shows on G&S for a cringy over the top chick sucks.
Game the Game isn't an Alpha only show and never has been, and Tabletop wasn't a Twitch show. Game the Game has been on long before Alpha and this is the first season she has hosted it on her own, since Ivan is now a producer. Legendary only put this season of Tabletop on Alpha to get people to join Alpha since it is a popular RUclips show, and that is supposedly why Wil will no longer involved in Tabletop!
That's the first I've heard of Wil supposedly quitting G&S and/or Tabletop. I've tried to find info, but so far, the closest I've found was a post from a couple of months ago stating that the future of Tabletop is "uncertain". But if G&S have replaced Tabletop, a show/trademark I reckon they don't wholly own/control, with Game the Game, which I assume they do own, I can see why this would be the case. The really farcical part of it is that G&S seems to have missed the point in history where online video-on-demand with voluntary pay-in made cable TV lose major chunks of their business. Or, in other words, forgot their own ascension from a minuscule and "Mostly Harmless" (to quote Douglas Adams) into an online influencer to be reckoned with. The cable channels won't ever recoup those loses, so I really can't understand why G&S would think that replicating the cable TV model online would be a good idea. And it's not even HBO levels of cable, which manages to hang on to it's market share by constantly producing very high octane shows, that they offer world-wide and through multiple mediums. It's closer to the hundreds upon hundreds of crap cable channels that have died since the internet video boom started, regionally or nationally limited channels mostly filling people's watching devices with different frequencies of white noise, that subsisted on being included in package deals more than people actually wanting to watch them.
In the last 7 days this channel has posted a thinly-veiled ad for for Alpha (this one), 2 blatant ads for Alpha, 2 re-runs of content that initially aired somewhere else, and only one video with substance from Satine Phoenix that lasted all of 22(ish) minutes. The "About" section is *years* out of date. Put a bullet in this channel already, it's an embarrassment.
I'm sorry to say but you come off as though you're not actually enthusiastic about what you're talkin about it seems very forced and a little over the top to the point that it almost sounds like you're talking to me like I'm a child yes I realized l5r is a game from the 90s and most people are going to be playing are you know grew up in the 90s
As cringey as the video is, and the way you talk, i appreciate your enthusiasm and energy and i thank you for being brave Also, 3 other clans? aren't there like 7? Dragon scorpion unicorn crab lion pheonix and crane?

Well it's been 7 months but in case you are still lost... A higher number let's you draw more cards but potentially lose more honor. So if your honor is doing fine, maybe you can afford to get reckless.
The game is actually good, but it's not quick to learn at all. My suggestion is: look at the art of the cards watch (good) videos, see if one or more clans appeal to you and decide if you think it is worth it. Again, it's not a "easy to learn and ready to go" game at all. Its complexity and strategies are what attract L5R players into it. For me its that and also the theme. Also about this video: Good videos of L5R are made by people that actually like the game and can explain it to you ("plainly" or "excitedly") without making you cringe every 30 seconds. For me she sounds like "You know what? I don't like this game, I don't care about it, I'll just do my stereotypical presentation because it always works". People like this game, but no one is "hyped" (fake) in the same as way as her about any aspect of this game. That's not the mood of it lol.
This game is honestly the deepest and most tactical card game I've ever played. A huge amount of decision points really make it a highly skill based game with a very high skill ceiling, which minimises variance.
And its resource system is nothing short of a revolution.
Have u played the original collectible card game?
@Nathan Ravesteyn agot first edition remains one of the best
RIP Netrunner
Did you ever play Netrunner? I think it blows L5R out of the water, but maybe I'm just tired of traditional attack/defend mechanics
@@cleanliving1612 Coming from Netrunner to L5R I think there's a space for both in my library as they fill different niches.

30 seconds in, I am in physical pain.
This production style is just terrible and all this narrated banther is just insufferable
Omg yes... I learnt nothing useful either :(
Yep. First it's full cringe with the HONOR, and then it just does other kinds of cringe shit immediately afterward.
What an embarrassing video.
oh god, i hate it.
I "died" in 10.
i think this is great if you have played the game at least once, but its way too much input to actually learn the game
How did they not get Matt Colville for this
1:35 World Class shuffling.
I've been curious about this game ever since I watched Matthew Colville's video about its story.
SaiyanAlchemist2 Yeah! Matthew was right then and is still right! This is the rebooted version of the game. Simon Knibbs or like... make an episode of tabletop out of it.

Here I am watching this in 2021 and this feels SOOOOOO different from when I played over 20 years ago
What a confusingly complex game. Love the art though.
Sitting here watching an adorkable Becca Scott actively making this tutorial more interesting made me realize why I'm still subbed to G&S
I enjoy poking around and seeing the new things they're putting out, even if I can't keep up with it all.
Adorable is definitely the right descriptor
I remember when this game was a CCG. I still have my decks from back when it first started in the late 90s.
Same here. Did you happen to play Spellfire. that was a cool game sadly the rules were so confusing at times that it died.
My life is full of people that would be like, "Uhhh this is too complex, where's the Monopoly board.", I think the game and the cards do look beautiful though.
Lol. Tune in on November 8th. Published on November 14th. GG.
Man I miss playing this game. Crab Clan 4 life!
For da cr4bs.
We are the Wall!!
Defend the wall, for the good of the Empire!

Me too!

is that you Kimmy Schmidt ?
team 89er Right? Looks so much like her!

@@Ektalon she's alive damnit, it's a miracle
DIT AND DRY BREAD!
Did she mention revealing provinces on attacking it, and the fact you have to break 3 to get to attack the opponents stronghold?

I don’t know what I’m doing here. However, I’m glad I’m here because Becca is unbelievably hot.
Becca there are 5 other clans in the box.... you had Lion and Crane out but there is Crab, Dragon, Phoenix, Scorpion and, Unicorn cards in the box.
Jeff Phillips yeah, she acknowledges there are 3 other clans at the end. This is a tutorial so she only needs 2.
Avery Estep mate there are a total of 7 clans in the box. Re read the original comment and note the use of the word "other"
Jeff Phillips oh, my bad. I misread that
Avery Estep it is okay
I played from 1999-2007 It seems to have gotten more complex or am I missing something.
Great energy and excellent editing. Always a good watch, especially since you keep it concise!
i wish Gingers had souls instead of cuteness. Maybe souls and cuteness!
whoa...this game has changed since I last played it
This is a stand alone set. Not the original
It's very thematically similar and very mechanically different than the old CCG it used to be. ;)
Uh...is the Live stream going to be in the past? Or is it going to be on November 18th?
This would have been SO much better on Tabletop with Will Wheaton.
I mean even as someone who played a little of the CCG that this game is based off of, which is different even from this version, I am rather lost BEFORE I even hit the end.

This game has changed a lot since the 90’s lol
Dragon and Mantis Clans for LIFE!!!!!!

Maybe Rick Sanchez is to blame.
Any idea where is their gameplay video?
I love these tutorials. Great production and amazing host!
Didn't hear a word because I was too busy admiring how defined her arms are - literally amazing
What happens if both players pick 5 every round
You mean for the honor dial? 3:13 A tie means no honor is exchanged.
Didnt matt colville talked about this?
He talked about the old version of L5R, this is a rerelase (though he did said that it was going to get one).
I do understand your idea of how you want to present the game... but there is no need to yell all the time really.
I just found a huge box of these cards at the thrift store today. Have never heard of it.
It's hard to focus on the game; (
