Konishi actually wasn’t lying at the end about Rhyme’s Entry Fee. Rhyme’s memories were BEAT’S fee. If you remember, Beat talks about how Rhyme has a billion dreams but when you talked to Rhyme at the beginning, she said she didn’t have any. So, her dreams were her Entry Fee.
Idk if she realized it or not but I'll get to it anyway. Since Joshua was essentially the god of Shibuya he got to decide whether the city got to exist or not and was trying to determine whether to destroy it or allow it to continue existing. Joshua believed Shibuya had grown stale but the Conductor guy who worked for him believed that Shibuya had plenty of potential and possibility which Joshua didn't seem to deny but he also argued that the people who inhabit the city couldn't see that which lead to the Conductor guy to plan to change the people of Shibuya to stop Joshua from destroying everything. Since both of them decided to settle the situation through the game Joshua decided to use someone else to play for him, someone who shared similar ideals to him and that person just happened to be Neku. However since Neku went through a 3 week character arc he began to change his views on the world which was something that Joshua took into consideration for his final decision and by the time Joshua and Neku had that duel with the guns he had already made up his mind and seemed like he wanted to test Neku one last time. Even after being betrayed by someone Neku grew some form of friendly respect for, he was obviously angry and saddened and I imagine his natural impulses was to shoot Josh but in the end he made the choice to trust Joshua as one of his former partners and that trust was rewarded not only by the fact Shibuya wasn't destroyed but everyone of Neku's friends including himself was brought back to life. That's why Neku said at the end that he didn't forgive Josh for what he did but that he trusted him.
Also, this last game also paralels week 1, when Neku is given the "option" to leave the game by the reaper girl if he killed Shiki, thats teh first and biggest moment in which Neku was an absolute prick and douchebag as he pretty much didnt hesiate and didnt even doubt the situation and was reprimanded by hanekoma for it, it ends in a full circle to the exact same situation, he is given the "out" but has to shoot his partner, and he learned, he decided to put his trust in Joshua and showed Joshua that even someone who was as closed off like Neku, can change as long as there is the space for it, truly a magnificent game
One of the funniest things on TWEWY is that we all start with: "Neku is just and edgy boy." And then we learn that he is deeply traumatized and faults himself for the death of his best friend.

I wish people would actually understand this instead of demanding a perfect port. Ports are not simple conversions.

@@haisex3 I mean the controls are pretty similar to the remake's all the pins are used in the same way just a motion control pointer instead of a stylus, the key difference is how your partners play they used to be on the top ds screen only and they would do attacks based on button inputs.
From what I can tell, Neku’s trauma is so tragic that even the fact that his memories are gone, he just barely recalled something like that happening, but obviously can’t due to his entry fee.
TWEWY is probably in my top 10 games ever and really impacted me since I played it when I was in high school. I'm really glad to see you enjoyed it, the themes still really hold up and seeing your turnaround on certain characters was a treat. Great video! He is still a nice guy between both games, but like, in TWEWY, you see his job as a Principality (angelic preserver of a nation, institution, or group of peoples). He has an entire ward of Tokyo that are his 'friends'. He's not just fighting for one or two people... and some of those people want to erase each other from existence. # AngelProblems

The character dynamic is expressed directly, in TWEWY--whereas, what you see in Dream Drop Distance is more of Joshua playing off of Riku, Beat, and Sora, as a passive observer.
Yeah the original ending was I believe a test “if you shoot me you prove that humanity will always remain the same and can’t change” and by refusing to shoot Joshua he was brought back to life along with Shiki, beat and rhyme. I’m pretty sure Joshua just shot him when he lowered the gun to troll him because he’s an asshole
I adore this game. Kingdom Hearts with the vibe of Jet Set Radio, unbelievable soundtrack, the most unique gameplay maybe ever, and the story becomes just incredibly soulful and profound
Game Trials was me finally playing this game. I fell in love. I only managed to get to the end of Week 2 before time was up. Since then, I’ve been trying to find a physical copy to finish it, while wildly dodging spoilers.
@@paperluigi6132 if you have a DS still, that plays the best mechanically. The game is 100% built to use a stylus. That said, I'm an addict, so I bought the iOS version and Switch version and played them with an iPad stylus and that worked really well too
@@paperluigi6132 also fwiw the DS version requires StreetPass to evolve a lot of the top tier pins. So that'll be almost impossible now since few ppl carry DSs around anymore. The switch version changed them to SD and BPP so it's way easier there

The problem is that the Switch version bridges the gap between TWEWY and NEO:TWEWY, so it renders the DS version kinda moot, even though the combat in the DS version is better and makes the gameplay relevant to the story via the green puck. You get such a boost by switching your attention to whoever has the puck and it changes how you play since you want to synergize between Neku and his partner. It values teamwork between the two, and it’s part of the greater story.

Joshua has a very interesting character and most people either hate him or love him. There is a lot more to him than the game out right says but it can deciphered that he wasn't lying the entire game. I highly suggest you read the secret reports for more information on all the behind the scenes nonsense. There is a lot more to this game than it seems, like a whole other game and explains what's going on with Mr. H. But for those who don't wanna do that...spoilers for these two characters, but more so Joshua. . . . . . He did grow up with the power to see the UG and that isolated him from other people making him depressed. When he found Mr. H he learned of what the UG is and started to think he belonged in the UG instead of the RG. It can be inferred from what he says in the game that he killed himself and was able to become Composer. But being Composer isn't all that great as he wasn't allowed to talk to anyone aside from Mr. H because he is the Producer, an Angel from a Higher Plane sent to oversee the city and be the bridge between the Composer and the Angels. The Composer and their city are connected, so his depression started tainting Shibuya. Eventually he realized this and since Shibuya was his, he decided the only way he was getting Erased was by destroying the city. But Megumi proposed the Game and so Joshua chose Neku, expecting him to be this stagnant and predictable, obedient solider to beat Megumi and prove people cannot change. But by the end of the game, Neku, the most emo and unlikable, horrible person was able to trust people and decided not to shoot Joshua after everything he did, which proved to Joshua that maybe he can change for the better, too.
45:00 Welp, Sora is certainly lucky to be canonically bulletproof, otherwise he's going to have a hard time shall he ever visit his DDD friends. That's one rough neighborhood. Bur for real, TWEWY is one of my favourite videogames ever. It was quite formative for both the way I appreciate videogames and my personal storytelling techniques back in the day. On a technical level, it's probably the most fully realized DS game of all time, and does a great job of communicating it's story and themes to its target audience in a way that is really hard to do otherwise. I could speak hours about it, let alone differences and similitudes in story telling with it's closer Square Enix simil, KH2, as well as the larger DS pantheon, of which I have written more than a couple pages. I'm so glad you enjoyed it Violet. It's a bit of a hard sell bc of... everything lol (specially for streaming jeez, this game was made for after-school play spread over a month) but it's a fun little journey. I'm really glad it survived as a cult classic. PS: bc this is still a SE game with Nomura involvement, there are secret reports :) They are even more mind-blowing than KH3 ones, so you might want to read them on stream as a reminder before getting into Neo. They are a ride.
Before I keep watching the video, the music neku is listening to is the ost of the game. At least that’s my headcanon because it’s so easy for me to believe neku is the kind of teen that changes the song before he goes shopping or fighting. His lil battle intro is also on beat most of the time
Kinda wish the localization of NEO didn’t suck but still a fun game. I found the story and characters weaker but the gameplay was better in my opinion compared to the Remakes. (Didn’t played the DS version)
@@dollmaker6599 localization is fine. If we got a direct translation of Neo, a lot of the conversations would feel awkward and some of the Japanese cultural references would most likely go over our head. TWEWY 1’s localization is the same way

Just like you I can also relate to Neku. Back in high school I've isolated myself and use to have this hatred towards society for it's "toxicity" and hardly ever talked to anyone. But it didn't do me any favors in the long run and I'm trying to be more outgoing and positive. Never been a fan of TWEWY, but Neku is a character that I think about sometimes
It’s basically implied that shiki originally committed suicide. They just couldn’t say it outright in this game. The whole deal with jashua was that he is a deity who was trying to determine if the people of shibuya had the right to exist-since everyone in shibuya is in their own little world with ideals that conflict with one another-which you get to witness thanks to the mind reading powers. So to determine this decision, joshua chose the shittiest person in shibuya (neku) to see if someone like that could make a change for the better. The ending duel between jashua and neku was a test on neku. If you remember, in the beginning, neku was ready to kill shiki to preserve his own survival. He only fails cause mr H interfered. At the end, however, he is forced into a decision of kill or be killed; but isn’t able to pull the trigger willingly because his journey and connections have changed his heart and couldn’t bring himself to kill someone he considered a friend. Neku passed the test by choosing another over himself and saved shibuya in the process. Ps. i like how she keeps finding new meanings of life from this game. 😂

first of all, i want to say that eri and shiki are absolutely gfs as far as i'm concerned (or if not, they will be post-canon) Secondly, something really cool that the game never outright states is that it's implied that the reason why the brands you wear in battle become more popular is because the UG is sort of a psychic plane, and when you erase noise, which are seemingly embodiments of negative thoughts, it subconsciously links the brands you're wearing with the removal of negativity in the minds of those around you. Finally, i'm absolutely with you on the music; TWEWY's ost is among my all-time favorites EDIT: oh yeah, also, it's implied that rhyme's entry fee was her dreams for the future, since she mentions being bummed about not having any

Neo isnt the game they tessed her. Or that wasnt the idea back then. Basicly it toxk so long to get to neo neo was basicly a Reboot with the added task to fullfill the Set ups. Phone Girl or Hype chan was suposedly the Mai character neku could see the future like Rindo becaus he mostlikely eather was the protag in the second Version of the story. And Hype chan was suposed to give The Vision. Bad Basiclie neo is the end result of years of These ideas devoleping And it Shows that the og characters Hell the Crazy guy was a last Minute decision by Nomura becaus he wantet him in and who knews when ther get todo a new one. But he is geuinly the best character so im happy

The remake is as good as it could be, but the original ds version is a different experience, with probably the most unique gameplay I've ever seem.

Just like you I can also relate to Neku. Back in high school I've isolated myself and use to have this hatred towards society for it's "toxicity" and hardly ever talked to anyone. But it didn't do me any favors in the long run and I'm trying to be more outgoing and positive. Never been a fan of TWEWY, but Neku is a character that I think about sometimes

It’s basically implied that shiki originally committed suicide. They just couldn’t say it outright in this game.
The whole deal with jashua was that he is a deity who was trying to determine if the people of shibuya had the right to exist-since everyone in shibuya is in their own little world with ideals that conflict with one another-which you get to witness thanks to the mind reading powers. So to determine this decision, joshua chose the shittiest person in shibuya (neku) to see if someone like that could make a change for the better. The ending duel between jashua and neku was a test on neku. If you remember, in the beginning, neku was ready to kill shiki to preserve his own survival. He only fails cause mr H interfered. At the end, however, he is forced into a decision of kill or be killed; but isn’t able to pull the trigger willingly because his journey and connections have changed his heart and couldn’t bring himself to kill someone he considered a friend. Neku passed the test by choosing another over himself and saved shibuya in the process.

Imagine this. A Kingdom Hearts game like FFXIII, where we play as all the different characters, as they search for Sora in their own way.
I literally thought the end of KH3 was Sora entering The Game. He's basically dead, he shows up in a real city that looks like Shibuya, the music goes hardcore edm....

first of all, i want to say that eri and shiki are absolutely gfs as far as i'm concerned (or if not, they will be post-canon)
Secondly, something really cool that the game never outright states is that it's implied that the reason why the brands you wear in battle become more popular is because the UG is sort of a psychic plane, and when you erase noise, which are seemingly embodiments of negative thoughts, it subconsciously links the brands you're wearing with the removal of negativity in the minds of those around you.
Finally, i'm absolutely with you on the music; TWEWY's ost is among my all-time favorites
EDIT: oh yeah, also, it's implied that rhyme's entry fee was her dreams for the future, since she mentions being bummed about not having any

Neo isnt the game they tessed her. Or that wasnt the idea back then. Basicly it toxk so long to get to neo neo was basicly a Reboot with the added task to fullfill the Set ups.
