Hi there, lil late to the party but just starting out with crossfit and was wondering what really makes the difference between the shoes for Gym and the ones for crossfit?
Not late to the party, it's just starting. Upper materials/features like outsole wraps. Shoes for CF will typically have more robust uppers and layering around the midfoot and toe for abrasion resistance from things like rope climbs and burpees. In addition, they'll have rubber outsoles that extend up over the midsole for additional grip/durability. The heel can also have TPU or dense rubber to promote slide when doing handstand push-ups. Not every CF shoe will have these features and it can vary slightly.
In my last comment about the Rad Ones I wasn’t sold on them. It took a couple of WODs with front squats and thrusters and I’m a believer now. Can’t speak for durability yet and I’m not in love with the shape. But they do the job and they do it great so…
I was wondering about the reign 6, I wish they had more color combinations, just add a Grey a blue or something. But I'm between those and the dropset 3 for lifting UA reign 6 look like a barefoot shoe .

Wide, flat foot here, specifically the mid foot, where I often have the most trouble. Plus my feet are decently high volume. I always did best in the cross trainers from 15 years ago, which were closer to a basketball shoe lol. Any recs? Need more volume than what most shoes offer these days

Hey Jake, love your channel! I'm a 220 pound guy and currently I'm mixing my overall lifting with volleyball and basketball and wanted some shoes that are stable enough for lifting but "forgiving" enough to sustain the constant landing of the sports. Do you have any recommendations?
Don't bother getting a one shoe fits all. Get basketball shoes for both volleyball and basketball and then get any of these for lifting. Trust me, your feet / shins / knees will thank you.
You could look into the STRIKE Transit Mids, they may give you a best of all worlds feel if you want something more boot support for basketball/volleyball that works well for training, too The move if budget isn’t a concern would be getting separate shoes for the sports, though. For training shoes specifically for your gym sessions, I’d explore the reign 6, Dropset 3, or cxt 2 wide!

@ that makes sense. I also didn’t care for plated shoes when I tried them. In some shoes I was able to tolerate them if they didn’t feel intrusive but i almost felt like I was getting more foot fatigue from running in them.
@@samesparza2149 Yeah, folks don't realize that they should be saved for special occasions and even then some just don't resonate with them. The influencers love to push super shoes, but then fail to often educate on use etc.

Exercise selection and frequency of certain movements. General cross-training is going to be your workouts that look a bit more athletic. Think, lifting blended with plyos/multi-directional stuff and things you'd find in your F45/Barry's classes. CF has a bigger emphasis on the big lifts and will have a higher volume of exercises with more abrasion like burpees, burpee box jump overs, and rope climbs, so a shoe's subtle construction differences like its upper materials/build get more important. That's how I categorize and batch them when thinking shoe reviews!
The savage 1 has been the best fitting shoe for my foot, mid foot seems skinny on a lot of shoes for me. I'm interested in haze trainers, but worried about width specifically in the midfoot. Thoughts?
Haze midfoot will probably be a problem for you based on this context, imo! I'd either pass on them or cop from Box Basics knowing that you may need to return so keep em' fresh.
Anyone have a recommendation for replacing a pair of metcon 7s? I’ve got a pair of Haze Trainers but they are a little too snug for daily wear, and I recently tried GoRuck trainers and they are way too snugg in the mid foot, even after sizing up. Looking for something with roomy toe box and not jazzed about TPU heals… thanks!
TYR CXT-2, RAD ONE, or Inov8 F-Lite. Don't overthink it! First model is all about data, too, and figuring out what you like. Won't know until you rip it and try!
A lot of trainers can work for that context! Dropset 2/3 are fantastic, Reign 6 can be great if you like a lower drop, and the Born Prim Savage 1 is also solid if you like lower stack heights/denser midsoles and width!
@@pacohermoso it’s not a bad shoe, but I find it pretty polarizing with its low-volume fit and chunky midsole. It is one of those shoes that can work for multiple cats if you resonate with its construction!
Eh, depends how we're categorizing that. Are we talking about stack height, toe box width, both? For a wider shoe that has a more traditional midsole = Altra Solstice XT 2. The STRIKE MVMNT Haze Trainer also has a more minimalist vibe to it. You could also try the Reign 6 and swap its insole for something more minimalist to give you that vibe.

Can work awesome! Basketball and court shoes can be sickkkkkk for cross-training and lifting
What is a good option for mainly lifting but also agility (boxing)?
Cop the Dropset 3 or reign 6!
What would you recommend for wods with more running and lighter weights/bodyweight movements?
Inov8 F Fly can be sick for that! Have loved them for that type of workout and the community has rallied behind them, too!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
@@covpride keep me posted if you grab a pair, keen to hear your fit thoughts
I have wide feet, want durable shoes for cardio hiit and strength training. Which on should I go with.
Inov8 F-Lite would be my suggestion!
@@thatfitfriend thanks man really appreciate it
Anyone have a recommendation for replacing a pair of metcon 7s? I’ve got a pair of Haze Trainers but they are a little too snug for daily wear, and I recently tried GoRuck trainers and they are way too snugg in the mid foot, even after sizing up. Looking for something with roomy toe box and not jazzed about TPU heals… thanks!
Try the new Inov8 F-Lite or F-Fly if you want something a little more plush for some cardio here and there!
Could also try the TYR CXT-2 (wide)
Is the Inov8 F-Fly still your top recommendation for a hybrid style (lifting & running) training shoe? Thank you. 🙏
Yeah, they're one of my fave models from this past year!
New to crossfit. Which shoe should i go that is good for running and WOD. Im
So overwhelmed 😅
TYR CXT-2, RAD ONE, or Inov8 F-Lite. Don't overthink it! First model is all about data, too, and figuring out what you like. Won't know until you rip it and try!
Thank you for replying❤
@ got you 🤝
What is the best cross trainer for squat and lunges?
A lot of trainers can work for that context!
Dropset 2/3 are fantastic, Reign 6 can be great if you like a lower drop, and the Born Prim Savage 1 is also solid if you like lower stack heights/denser midsoles and width!
Maybe a video for Hyrox?
@@alfredorodriguez8053 it’s coming! Competing in my first one this spring. Will never film a video on a topic I don’t have skin in the game for
You don´t consider the Project Rock 7 in any category?
@@pacohermoso it’s not a bad shoe, but I find it pretty polarizing with its low-volume fit and chunky midsole. It is one of those shoes that can work for multiple cats if you resonate with its construction!
@@thatfitfriend thx for answer buddy!
@@pacohermoso of course, dude! Hope you’ve been well
What’s a good shoe that has similarities between cross fit trainer and barefoot ?
Eh, depends how we're categorizing that. Are we talking about stack height, toe box width, both?
For a wider shoe that has a more traditional midsole = Altra Solstice XT 2. The STRIKE MVMNT Haze Trainer also has a more minimalist vibe to it.
You could also try the Reign 6 and swap its insole for something more minimalist to give you that vibe.
Can Nike make more ugly shoes.
Nike looks at you *hold my beer*
They some some lovely color combinations, so much variety, the black ones in fje video are kind of boring for me
