    Coach Codutti needs to be hired to Penn State’s staff. His analysis is always spot on and he would be a valuable asset to them

    I wonder how much the focus on getting Allar and the receivers settled in the passing game is affecting the work they can do on blocking with the receivers. There's only so many hours during the week. Obviously the coaching staff sees the same thing as Coach does.

    Is the solution more effort? Better technique? Awareness? If you’re running practice this week what drills are you running to fix this?

      The lack of wide receiver blocking looked like effort.. assuming PSU's analysts are seeing the same thing

    There weren't very many explosive runs, but there also weren't very many runs for short gains. Consistency in a run game is just as important as explosive rushing plays. Also, we watched a similar group last year, we'll get the breakaway runs sooner or later

    • @ForTheBlogy
      @ForTheBlogy  Год назад +2

      agreed. That's why we made sure to offer the intro disclaimer "they've been successful. they just havent been explosive"...hard to complain about 230 yards and 4 rushing TD per game average after two weeks. But it's also weird that their longest run of the season is only 20 yards.

    6 & 2 need to improve but OL reserves were the issue, not the starters Traut now has lots of live action film to work with.

    Been very impressed with Theo Johnson's blocking, I think this week's episode was a little nit picky, I think the explosive plays will come!

    ok, but isn't this fairly normal for the first couple games of the year? Especially when you have new receivers blocking, too. You should be, at the very least, comparing the first games of last year with this year.. but , ultimately, the sample size is not large enough to make any definitive conclusions on receiver blocking, etc

  • @jessecrosson6648
    @jessecrosson6648 Год назад

    I was skeptical that that is would be kinda nit-picky but it absolutely wasn't. Great breakdown. I know there are some folks blaming the new WR coach already, but that is crazy. The WRs who you highlight missing blocks? They're all new guys. People forget that CJF cut his teeth as a WR coach. Given his (healthy) obsession with explosive plays, you can bet he is going to get on these guys to finish blocks at the third level. Traditionally we have been great at that; we just have some newer starters who need to really see just how important their blocking is.
    The backside OL misses are more annoying, but I think they are pretty fixable. It looks to me like they are taking plays off, and thinking: "oh the play isn't coming to my side, so my job won't be as hard. Nope. Bury your dude EVERY. PLAY. You do that and band is playing many, many times this season.

    At least we have Illinois next. 448 rushing yard given up through two games. Linebackers and secondary had issues getting in position/ covering against Kansas. Bailey's reportedly coming back from injury. Only two games in but, the new defensive coordinator doesn't seem to have answers with the players on the roster.

    For comparison: Saquon had 5 games of just 50 ground yards in his last season and was the most instantly explosive player in college history IMHO. He also had 5 over 100 mixed in throughout the season. WV is not Akron, and although Delaware could have been a blood bath, with more than just Kaytron hitting triple digits, the passing game needs the reps. The run game is ready when called on, they proved that last year.

    "I think next week we'll probably figure it out." Not with this coaching staff. They've had every opportunity week after week and if anything they seem to be regressing.

    Blocking and tackling...basics. Why can't the Lions' coaching staff hammer it home?! They had all Summer to do it and STILL it looks poor.

    These commenters are a joke. I’ve played all sports and now 12000 games of pickleball in 4 years. Ive literally had more fun playing pickleball than all other sports COMBINED. No other sport combines eye hand, reflexes, tactics, strategies, mobility, ball placement AND socializing. Don’t play though, it’s fine.

    Penn State can't generate an explosive running game because Nick Singleton is forced to share the ball with Kaytron Allen. Give Singleton the flippin ball.
