How good was Diego Forlan actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most talked about players we've seen over the 2010's in football. In this episode we take on Diego Forlan who played for Manchester United, Atletico de Madrid, Villareal and Indpendiente for most of his career.

He didn't even like football but started taking it more seriously just to help his sister... Beyond based. What an absolute king. 👑
Yeah not buying that. Ain’t no way you get to play at that top level and being that good without loving the sport to a degree
@@ghostirq Mexico’s Carlos vela doesn’t like the sport lol he said it numerous times that he prefers basketball. Before you say how dare I compare vela to forlan which is understandable! Although vela at one point in La Liga was voted too 3 players in the league the two above him were messi and Ronaldo so impressive. He never really liked playing for Mexico either and didt give it his all when he was clearly talented. He played alongside griezman in Real Sociedad
@@ghostirq Andre Agassi, one of the best tennis player ever, absolutely hated the sport. Lmao.
Quote: “I play tennis for a living, even though I hate tennis, hate it with a dark and secret passion, and always have."
@@TheBobes that quote is very out of context mang
@@fredymendez855 Carlos Vela never got as good as Forlan...also look at the way Forlan celebrates goals (he loves that shit)
His form in 2010 world cup was insane. I never saw anything like it before or after. We love him in Uruguay
dont worry whole world loved him as well :)
He had asked Adidas for the WC ball prior to the competition, and arrived to South Africa and the only player who mastered the ball already.
James Rodriguez?
🤭🤭🤭
Kashavacha ,,,he gave us spectacle in 2010 world cup although I noticed him for the first time in 2002 world cup Korea/Japan a prolific goalscorer in wc 2002 he scored a goal vs Senegal I was 8 years old and I watched that ,,,his masterpiece of a free kick vs Ghana in wc 2010 was incredible ,,,,,I like mostly Sebastian Washington Abreu (El loco ),,,,greetings from Congo , Uruguay is a land of football but I support Argentina ,peace
Diego Forlan is quite simply the most profilic, hardest working "The Streets Won't Forget" player the world will ever know.
alright
Imo that’s Romario without the hard work but Diego Forlan is prolly up there
@@bradmup2543 But Romario is considered a GOAT AND he's a World Cup winner. Forlan is someone this generation doesn't really remember like that, sadly
@@qkomodo9098 I'd say depends on who you ask. Most fans have at least come across one wondergoal of his somewhere
@@reintaler6355 I blame Fifa lol
My favorite player in the 2010 WC. An absolute rocket 🚀
What he did to SA in 2010 world cup can never be undone, the guy was a beast during that world cup
@Oscar Lepe facts he was a beast back then :P
He had asked Adidas for the WC ball prior to the competition, and arrived to South Africa and the only player who mastered the ball already.
@@hizmartyn8957 that is so irrelevant. You ain't going to do the things he did without skill.
@@danwelterweight4137 definately but he stood out in 2010 more.
Forlán played a great 2011 Copa America, he didn't score many goals because he was the playmaker, placing himself behind Suarez and Cavani on the pitch.
This was the only tournament I saw him playing as a real number 10 instead of a striker, and he was amazing.
Forlan and Jabulani is one of the most dangerous duos ever, the ball is like a part of him, those long shots in world cup 2010 were insane screamers
Forlan deserved his video. He was one of a kind, one of the most clinical forwards I've ever seen.
You think of 2010 World Cup, you think of Forlan and the Jabulani ball. Legend.
I can only think of the toe of cassillas blocking Arjen robbens shot 🥲
@@Koen030NL Should have scored, wasn't his day
@@deepzyoti13 it’s the closest the Netherlands have been to World Cup glory 🥲. Will probably never forget it.
Master of the Jabulani
Netherlands vs Spain was my fav wc final simply for the fact that both never won a wc at that time, so as neutral fans, we were all so eager to know which country will be the new champions
As a utd fan, he's completely right. Fergie seemed, to me, to have a thing against Forlan. He never wanted to play him. Sometimes fergie would buy players just so other teams couldn't. He had 'that' pull of a manager. I'm glad Forlan went on to make his mark on football.
Technically he isn't a flop though from the fans perspective than the media. United fans will always have fond memories of him scoring against Liverpool and Chelsea and proceeding to take off his shirt in celebration. He had passion and played for the club. To this day, United fans still sing about Forlan. Despite the lack of consistency, United fans still love him.
Never mentioned him been a flop
@@ghostchilli8022 ik that, bro. I meant in general, the media did etc.
@@ThisIsMyRodrick ah, yh ok, I get you, yh a lot called him a flop, but I go back to him not having the game time, or confidence from fergie for that playing on him. Any how, great guy, glad he kept his promise to his sister and kepf the Forlan name in football an not tennis. I mean grass an white lines but fk me it gets boring quick
@@ghostchilli8022 either way, he gave United fans some fond memories, he is a cult hero in their eyes. I do agree, he needed more game time though.

Forlan
One of the best Uruguayan players ever to wear “LA CELESTE” … He could shoot from outside the box with either foot ,with the same accuracy and force… Also a great playmaker and goal scorer … A true Legend.
Forlan at kitchee (hong kong) was such a great story. Mans 41 and still scored like 11 goals in 1 half season
This guy even played in india in the ISL and at an retiring age he was fun he showed the young egotistic players that football is played in a fun way with the most compitative mind he have a impact in the INDIAN football as he taught a younger self of Indians to compete and enjoy the game
Before that Indians just showed anger on every time they steps on the pitch
What can i say, this mans a legend wherever he go, i think he assisted our first ever Asian Champions legaue goal (it was a pass before a screamer but still)
Us United fans loved him - he worked so hard and his stats only looked bad at first because he always played for no more than 2-5 minutes at the end of matches. He also gave us the classic of playing topless when he couldn't get his twisted shirt back on after scoring. Quality player and top bloke.
And making the scousers cry
I am one of the one old enough to see him play before he is popular. I saw him i think this guy is good. Always target the top corner. Always play like last 5 minute. But he Didn't score, just his shots really good. About 30 game he still not a starter because united has van nistelrooy and solsjaer. Also something's scholes also moves to backup striker. I know he is not a flop because that situations and unlucky
That shirt incident although completely harmless, is the reason players now get a yellow card for removing their shirt during a match.
It was his 2nd goal for Utd, his 1st was a penalty. He scored a screamer and quite rightfully celebrated with joy. Couldn't untangle his shirt, the ball came close to him. Still full of adrenaline after his big moment, he started playing with his shirt in his hand. The ref blew the whistle, despite it harming nobody and only being somewhat amusing.
The FA decided such a thing couldn't happen again, and introduced yellow cards for the removal of shirts. They punish passion for the game.
The rule writers are that sad!!!
I'm a united fan and I don't consider a flop for us, and I love him as a player! one of my all-time favorite players! He made the scouser's cry!! GGMU!!
Finally as a Uruguayan he is one of the best players/ person to ever play for the national team. A real icon URUGUAY NOMA!
He got his european golden boot twice with Villareal and Atletico both of those team are not even considered to be big teams at the time, yet he got his boots, what a player!
Highly impressive no question about it.
I always wanted him to do well at United and he just never took off, but the fans loved him because of his attitude. Was really relieved when he actually became a household name at Athletico and Villareal.
For me: Diego Forlan is One of the best long range strikers ever!
I can never erase his world cup goals from my memory. 🇮🇳🇺🇾🙌👏🏻
Who can forget Forlan's spell at Mumbai City FC? Simply sensational...
Can't forgot that hattrick. And also a red card in semifinal 1st leg🥺🥺
@@iamlaksh6389 I still believe that if Forlan acted a bit more mature and got through the 2nd leg, Mumbai City FC would easily March to the final and eventually win it. 🙂
who watches indian leagues? trash league 😂
My young son and I, were just talking the other day about Forlan’s performance in the 2010 WC. He was amazing.
So rare that u hear good things about diego Maradona only the bad but I know of one story when a young youth player who was dirt poor and not really up to making pro .Diego found out and made it part of his contract that he was to have house and handsome monthly wage .
Man Utd fans loved Forlan because he gave everything. We knew he wasn’t bad. He just needed a break and a good run of games. I’ll always remember his goals against Liverpool.
I’m so pleased he got more game time in Spain. His 2010 WC appearances were golden.
As a South African all I have to say is that this guy will always be remembered
I literally searched him to relive the year 2010 again😎 Man is goated.
I am currently using him fc mobile alongside puskas can score bangers for fun @@letlhogonolokolberg772
As a Man Utd fan, we never considered him as a flop. We all wanted Forlan to do well. He's just not given enough chances in Man Utd
he's a villareal legend for a reason
VAMOS VILLAREAL
I'm from Colombia but I came fan from Uruguay after the world cup in 2010. So sad they didn't make it so far in Qatar..Forlan was a beast...Greetings from Malta...
What he did in that 2010 World Cup was Beautiful. Grande Forlán!
Diego Forlan was one of the main reasons I fell in love with Uruguay
I always loved Forlan. I remember those Man U days and Villarreal days. He was a very classy player
What a story. I Love Folan. He changed the way strikers where viewed. His movements, passion, press from attack is what we have today. He was just different from all attackers in his time
Always thought the talent was there at United but at that time RVN was a different level and still probably the most clinical striker I've seen at OT. We tried to play scholes behind him. It was great to see his career bloom as he needed full games and also I was going over to in-between Valencia and Villarreal every year at that point to see a friend so felt like a random connection to him 😀
Congratulations on your channel my friend! Estás a representar Portugal da melhor forma possível! Um grande abraço!
At the time I was a united fan, then a Barca fan. Forlan was an incredible player, very intelligent and full of creativity. Whether he was in my team or against us I always always loved watching him play.
Finally Someone Makes A Good Video About Forlán
forlan's story and work ethic gives the darwin nunez situation some hope lol
Never understood that transfer. To me it's a scheme to laundering money.
I hope man we need him rn against city
Forlan was one of those players, as a United fan, I always wanted to do well and had a soft spot for. He always tried, battled, worked hard. Was really glad he went on to have a stellar career. Legend.
The one thing that always sticks out about forlan was he never stop trying,,a hard worker, and I'm,,,,A B U!,,,,
Some of your finest work, I've been watching for a few years now....incredible topics and well.presented content 👌😊
Uruguayan legend !!! forever will be honored and remembered... Uruguay has always been one of the top nations in futbol so dont you ever forget that...
Another amazing video, thank-you for putting out such great content week after week!
Ask any South African & they'll tell you they remember who Diego Forlan is. I doubt we'll ever forget him. What a player🔥🔥🔥❤️
one little correction: Inter from Brasil was not his father’s former team. Actually it was São Paulo.
I am brazilian and Inter supporter. Here we still consider Forlán to be the greatest acquisition of the club history. His run around here was not so brilliant, but it was good. He scored multiple long range goals. Just a great player.
My favourite player ever, right after Manuel Rui Costa ❤️🖤
That free kick against Ghana Was Wild!! I’m a Ghanaian, dat day was hell. Gyan missed dat pk and everyone in Ghana hated him N his family for YEAAARSS! Now He Good Tho, We Jus Overreacted 🇬🇭 lol

Saw him play in India even in his older days this man was a beast.
''scoring their only goal in that famous match against Ghana" (13:17) Man ngl that match sparked fury in me because I'm a Ghanaian. I'm glad Uruguay is in our group and it's time for revenge. Ghana 4-0 Uruguay!

I remember watching a cup game, athletico against barcelona. Maybe its just a warped memory but i remember it was like 4:3 at the end. And that forlan scored twice (at least). He's still my favorite striker to this day.
The Universe shed a tear when Forlán had that season with Villareal.
brilliant player at his peak. his ball control and precise shooting ability were simply sublime.
I'm from India and watched his performance in 2006 Fifa world cup and he was simply mind blowing. The best performer of that world cup.
i loved Forlan i was a die hard forlan fan since his 2010 WC performance i always picked uruguay in fifa every time until they removed uruguay :/
what a duo that was, a young Suarez and prime Forlan.
I remember the first time hearing about the name Diego Forland as a football player when I was a kid I was so excited for watching him also on my television 👍⚽🏆⚡🙂🐐👽
This channel is so underrated
This was an awesome video you should do one on Riquelme
One of the best complete striker but underrated like berbatov
His 2010 World Cup is one of the greatest performance ever
I remember him during the world cup, he was so class
I had a lot of luck as an atletico fan growing up on forlan's best era, you cant even imagine thee kind of performances this man was putting with agüero to get atlético to champions league when the rest of the team didn't know what a ball was
Forgot to highlight his UCL Semifinals with Villarreal which by the time was heroic, but great video as always
Came to know about him in Fifa mobile. Then I researched and discovered his individual achievements like winning UEFA golden shoe 2 times , FIFA 2010 golden ball and golden shoe etc.
Absolute legend !
Amazing player, amazing story, a few only know what he was capable of achieving. 👏🏻
Would love to see you do a video on a Sunderland player some good examples would be Brian clough, kevin phillips,Naill quinn best target man ever or maybe someone from are 6 div 1 title winning days
I knew every single fact mentioned on this video 🥰
You just forgot to tell that Forlan was more promising playing Tennis than Football 😄
I am a big Atleti fan and always will like Forlan....He was insane when he played for us
It was so fun to watch him in the 2010 WC . Uruguay in general (except for the handball from Suarez against Ghana - this was just unfair haha)
I was rooting hard for Uruguay in that World Cup. I didn't really know a thing about Forlan, but for some reason I wanted him to win the Cup for his team. Just something about his play and demeanor on the pitch was likeable.
He was and still is a cult hero for united. the fans still singing his song home and away.
Barthez, Forlan, Van Nistelrooy, Beckham what a team United used to be.
You forgot how he took Villareal to the semi finals of the Champions League. Something that was only a dream for a Villareal fan at the time
Legend. My favorite player ever.
Nós, torcedores do internacional, lembramos dele com muito carinho. Era surreal de ver, era diferenciado demais.
You forgot to mention Villarreal's UCL campaign into semi finals 2005-06
Very important
Honestly Forlan 2010 World Cup is the single greatest world cup performance I've ever seen
The 2010 World cup was the first world cup i saw (was just 8) and i was obsessed with him,i didnt even know Uruguay existed back then
I'll love to see a video about Berbatov
I still have a figure of him at my home with his iconic atlético madrid shirt

As a United fan, I rate Diego HIGHLY
The player that made me fall in love with Football 😍

Circumstances can change your destiny. Forlan is a testament.
One of my favorite strikers all time.
Hernan Crespo
Diego Forlan
Adriano
He wasn't discarded by United. Despite his inconsistent form, he left to be closer to his sister from whom he was separated whilst in England. At Villereal he could provide her with more care. United fans could see his quality and hard work, as well as his big smile. His 2 goals vs Liverpool made him a legend. Even though he was a flop at United we were super glad he was succeeding so much in Spain and the FWC.
As a United fan I absolutely loved him in Manchester and really wanted him to break through and succeed. He didn't score many goals, but those that he did were awesome. It was too early for him to join a top club and especially one stacked with forwards, it required generational talents such as Rooney or Ronaldo for young forwards to break through and establish themselves.
His father never played for Internacional. He did played for São Paulo FC.
