Henry had so much respect for his mother not father, that he wanted those around him and the Kingdom to refer to him as the son of the Empress.

This may also demonstrate his liberality. He was aware that he rose to the throne thanks to his mother's efforts, and not his dad's. So he developed a unique way in his views about women. The fact that he married a so much older woman than him (eleanor of aquitaine) and entrusted his kingdom to her (he fully confied in her political capabilities) are proofs of this, I think.

i mean, historical records show about how he has been very controlling. he felt like if its not him handling things then there will be chaos. which his sons hated because they arent able to learn properly how they'll be good lords, let alone kings if their father retained all the control. eleanor was pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place. she had two choices - the king or her kids? she chose her kids. though he cheated on her MULTIPLE TIMES, eleanor was stuck to what she does best and that was minding her own business in aquitaine. but henry really was overkill and she tried to stop it.

They had an estranged relationship at the time. Henry loved and honored his mother, but both Henry and Eleanor had extremely strong personalities and the marriage was plagued by infidelity on Henry’s end. It’s hard to say why Eleanor supported her sons, although she had a great relationship with Richard specifically so she probably chose Henry the Young King and Richard over her husband because she cared for her children more.

The only part of this I don't like is they warped Matilda to fit with the modern tastes. Matilda upon returning after her husband the HREmporer died, still demanded to be called empress. And was used to the totalitarian rule of a king and was by all acounts a very demanding and had a strong sense of being better than literally anyone and by all accounts was a cruel mostly scheming and clawing for power due to greed kinda woman. As was Stephen but still. They make her look like a mother fighting for her kid but her son was basically a tool to her to get power, since she couldn't after finally realized what everyone else did. by the laws of the age she was invalid from the start, and she was kind of a bitch lol. I am big into historical accuracy. So this bothers me. The world without end is better. Slightly more accurate. Except for Eddy 2 being alive.
Oh and they'd all be speaking very French. Since they like.....2 steps from Norman conquest lol won't be an English speaking king until Henry the 4th.

If she really used her son as a tool just to get power he wouldn’t have valued her so much later in her life. He loved her and honored her because she did right by him. And she was proud and entitled. Who wasn’t?

@@GalicianGranddaughter666 That she abandoned her own claim to instead pursue her son's is her demonstration that she isn't so aloof that she rejects political reality, and that she is putting her son and family ahead of her own ambition. If Henry FitzEmpress had resented her treating him as a tool, then he probably wouldn't have appointed her regent of England and Normandy at various points..

@@davidtownsend6092 Henry and his brothers Geoffrey and William were born before her father Henry I died. She did not run to France. She was already in Anjou when her father died and I think she was recovering from her pregnancy. Stephen basically usurped the crown in her absence. Had she been in England Stephen would have not been able to do that.

Many historical shows (like The White Queen, The Tudors, Medici) are known to be historically inaccurate at times. This one is no exception. While I would prefer the story was closer to the real events, I don't think it's "nonsense", after all this is not a documentary, it's fiction. But of course you are entitled to your opinion.

I know. I don't know what everyone is talking about in the comments. She was chased from London by its inhabitants, lost sympathy from pretty much everyone, and realised her cause was lost. The barons continued warring, destroying the country for another 20 years, taking advantage of Stephen’s ineffective rule until they and, of course, the oppressed English too became tired of the anarchy and constant war and wished the issue of succession settled. Only then did they look to the grandson of Henry I, Henry FitzEmpress, as a ruler to maintain the peace.
I don't know if it was just bad editing in the video because I haven't seen the movie, but it made it appear as if Maud's campaign was successful.
