As of today 12/18/20 Tommy Tune is age 81 and dear Ann just passed away 12/12/20, age 71, she's now dancing with the angels. I had a wonderful chance meeting with Tommy one summer night as I was walking along upper Broadway at 94th street or so in Manhattan back around the early 2000's. No one else was around and there he was, we said hi, walked together a block or so and I asked if he was working on a new show coming up, told him I enjoyed his performances and shows he's choreographed; he was talkative, very nice and asked about myself, how cool was that! I hope he is doing well,
I can’t comprehend a single thumbs down on this video... whether it’s your cup of tea or not, that’s pure talent.... objectively speaking, there’s nothing to thumb down in this performance....
No amount of talent could survive the disaster that was whatever-the-f*ck she was wearing!!! Yes, she was one of the truly great dancers, but it began and ended there.
Had the pleasure of seeing them onstage in Bye Bye Birdie at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco. What a pleasure and honor. Ann was an amazing dancer, her moves were incredible.
I saw Tommy and Lucie Arnaz together at that same S. Fran. theater in "My One and Only." in 1986...seems like yesterday.....it was his 1000th performance of that show and Tommy's mom and (the mayor) Feinstein and Carol Channing came onstage after the show to honor that show's milestone of perfs.
Perfectly matched pair!! The legs with these two, the subtlety is delicious. Nobody could match their extention and he wasn't paired as a sight gag. Beautiful
I remember Tommy Tunes roller skating and stopping at my “Roller Babes “ skating rental truck on Fulton in Golden Gate Park in 1979! What fun! He is so amazing! Also saw him in later years in the desert and he remembered the Golden Gate Park days ! He is one of the most creative dance artists!
@@jordymatheson2941 Tune is the only person to win Tony Awards in the same categories (Best Choreography and Best Direction of a Musical) in consecutive years (1990 and 1991), and the first to win in four categories. He has won ten Tony Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
She was such a great dancer! Those legs! I am one too. She was one of my idols. She died far too young. Rest in peace and you can bet that everyone in heaven is in 7th heaven with her among them now.
@@silentsmurf She died a week ago. In her sleep. For some reason I can't seem to get over this. She was such an inspiration for me as a dancer. And I am 6 years older than she.
@@vanessakettler9697 it's just so hard to believe that someone so incredibly vibrant, so full of life, is... no longer. She was incredibly talented, and by all accounts, a wonderful person.
@@salvatorecastellana6615 The dropped shoulders, the pointed toes, the spread fingers when they pluck the hats off their heads. Hell, the bowler hats themselves scream Fosse. :)
The ultimate Fosse woman and I mean that in a great way! She is such a fabulous dancer in her own right but I hope the "Fosse style" didn't die with her. She was a master at it. I miss her so much. Truly a legend and a grand lady!
Of course very rare to find dancers like Ann Reinking and specially who can fully use his style and create something new. But I'm sure the Fosse style will live on one way or another in musical theatre like Broadway at least. I have never danced in my life and I'mobsessed with Fosse, Ann and Gwen Verdon. You just can see and feel the passion someone has for dance. And anyway his style looks very timeless. At least I hope.
"Every thing old is new again"!!! Pay attention to Ann watching Tommy. She is making sure she is in step with him. That is a Fosse MO. Make the one you are dancing with be the center of attention. Her queues are dead on beat. Gwen was the same. Thank you for posting.
I once heard Tommy Tune describe himself as being 5' 18". Probably the only person who could partner the mighty Ann Reinking and match her for leg length.
I’ve watched this video about a thousand times and she dances circles around him. He’s behind by half a beat in several parts, misses important “hits” with the hat, and his arms are just sloppy. All the love and respect for Tommy but she outperformed him here by miles. Her shoulders basically run this whole routine. 👑 ❤️
Alan Johnson may be on the credits, but 3/4 of the piece are moves lifted directly from Bob Fosse... so my guess is that Ann Reinking choreographed this particular number.
@@SmarterBetAuthor Alan Johnson and I were in the studio together with both Tune and Ann Reinking for this number. Alan created the piece and choreographed it. HolyCow. Look at those moves. RIP, Ann. Loved loved loved you.
Such a wonderful talent. Heaven is in a dancing craze welcoming her into the Pearly gates.
She's just so impeccable
The one time Ann Reinking danced with someone whose legs were longer than hers.
The brilliant and incomparable Ann Reinking! She gave me my first major broadway show Fosse. R.I.P..
What a lucky guy to get to dawdle along beside Ann. She gives a masterclass performance here, just WOW!!

I fell for ann reinking when I saw her in micki and maude great dancer great actress and a beautiful woman. rip ann
Amazing, extremely talented dancers.
Two of the greatest dancers ever!
LOL, funny how they're supposedly doing vaudeville softshoe, and yet the choreography screams BOB FOSSE, DAMMIT!!!
Doesn't it though!
I thought the same while watching. The way they wore the hat and the shoulders hunched was all Fosse.
