WILL IT... do metal really good? Or really bad?
Can you make a video with the pod xt live they have midi using as a controller or make a good sound for metal with the xt live
It does. You must update the firmware to get access to the Revv purple, that's my favorite one. Hey how can I find your IR?
in the room?
Sounds mostly shit
Trim yer mustache your riffs will be better :)
Sounds great and that's what's important.
It took a long time for me to start ignoring the familiar sayings:
Doesn't sounds real
Pushing air
Kemper is better
Amp is better
What you need is to find the best sound to suit your needs, and use it.
Don't say "it doesn't sound like a 5150" etc, but just find the best tone for yourself and USE IT!
The crowed doesn't say "ah, it sounds like a plexi", all they hear is noise anyways.
imo that's a matter of personal useage. for pretty much every professional application, especially live, modern modellers are absolutely perfect, and ignoring the familiar sayings is absolutely valid.
but nothing is ever as fun as sitting in front of a real amp with a real cab. imo tube amps are for personal enjoyment these days. i don't walk away from my friend's kemper smiling ear to ear, but i do walk away from my blackmore and laney 412 grinning like an idiot. depends on what you're looking for.
The thing about guitarrists is that most of the time we choose de sound for two reasons: how it sounds with everyone else playing at the same time and how it sounds to ourselves as we play it. So, yeah, tone is definely not that important to the crowd, but It is for ourselves. It help us feel comfortable playing. Thing is: I do feel that I play better when I'm using my usual gear or something that sound as good or better then when I'm playing with something entry-level, because when it doesn't sounds right, it's distracting.
The most interesting part is that most people complaining the modellers don't sound like the "real thing" never actually played the real thing....B. Marsden used to laugh with all the guys mentioning how this or that Les Paul doesn't sound like the real 59' and he always responded: "Ok....how many originals have YOU played???? Cos I played a few.... :) " And the usual response was 0...
Arguably though an audience can hear the difference if you play better when having more fun and sadly having more fun with a cranked tube amp is basically a thing of the past for all but the most popular acts who can afford to bully their way into a venue with whatever kit they want.
Love this conversation because there's so much truth to it. The modelers are just awesome in the studio and work so well on stage for going to FOH. But yea, at the end of the day.... nothing will ever feel like standing in front of tubes while pushing a few feet of drivers.
I don't know why but Ola has become my favourite RUclips guitarist. He seems as genuine as they come and doesn't seem to pander to that masses.
That's probably why ;)
I recently lost all my gear in a house fire, and I ended up getting the POD Go as a quick and dirty replacement for all the pedals, rack gear, and computer/amp sims I lost in the fire. This unit works spectacular as a stompbox/fly rig in front of an amp with the cab sims disabled. It's definitely not a replacement for a good amp sim for recording, but as an all-in-one unit for gigging with a amp, it's great.
Hey, may I ask how things are going 3 years after the fire? I'm truly sorry for everything you've lost.
@retrakor Not too bad, I've re-aquired some decent gear since. Some friends hooked me up with a couple guitars as well.
@@mattcallaway7164 dang that sucks to hear, but im glad you actually got some stuff to replace it. hope everythings going well currently. God bless
Every time I hear that More Than Ever riff, it brings a chill down my spine. I enjoy your vids a lot Ola. 🤘🏻
Really appreciate it when people demo amp modelers acting as a preamp thru an fx loop of an actual amp. Great job, Ola!!!
I’m getting one, and buying a small tube amp and will do 4 cable method. It sounds cool, I liked line 6 because of the fx, but i won’t use this for really the amps, I kinda like it.
ughhh i searched this like a couple of hours ago and then you upload this. YOU THE BEST
Dude, that sounds really good! I’ve always liked the Line 6 tones and still have my HD500. (Had the XT Live many years ago).
Omg! Great video. The MGS reference when the door was opened though!!🤣🤣🤣
i was literally waiting for your review since this thing launched.
Sounds awesome!
Great piece of gear!
Great riffs too!
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
I picked up a Pod Go to use for some of my covers on my channel. I love it, the tones you can dial in are pretty sweet for a $450 rig.
This is the 2nd peice of gear I've bought after seeing your videos. Always honest and informative 🤘🤘
I really like the sound and functionality of the pod go,it sounds great on my mesa 295 stereo simul class poweramp.also what made me decide to buy the pod go is the Amp out.so i use one cab in the Middle for my dry sound and then the left and right on the mesa and this is the setup i wanted for years🎼🎶🎶🤘
Excited about my purchase waiting for it to arrive home. This video sold me on purchasing it. I’ll have to download your impulse and a few from my friends.
good honest quick review , I still want to try it for my self.
What a great time to be a guitar player. I would have killed for anything even close to sounding this good and that was this portable when I was learning.
Back then there was basically no middle ground between a Peavey Bandit and a full price too-loud-for-the-house professional tube amp.
The Pod Go's built-in IRs are really bad though hah.
Great review! Awesome metal sound!
Ok..That thing sounds AWESOME!!! Especially with the 3rd paerty IR's.
Sounds so good I just ordered one thanks Ola!
Your studio set up is fucking amazing bro!!!
uuh was thinking buying this!, thanks ola du sve jävlär
I have a Pod Go as well. Love it!
1:54 "and then I have my own " 😂🤘🏻
Thanks Ola, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Hmmm, I have been looking for something like this, thanks Ola! 🤘
I like learning about the computer stuff, it’s like new territory for me and that guitar is sweet
I got mine back in late April, and really like it so far. They do sound tighter when you put an overdrive pedal block in front of the amp (just like you would a real amp). It does take some tweaking, but you can get a decent sound out of it. And it does record well thru the USB. I posted my own demo of it, and I think it really sounds great.
That's essentially what I do ,I just use my krank distortion with no amps no cabs and use some gates and the comps along with a real noise gate and an eq into the front of the amp with the 4 cable method , with modeling side it took me a couple years of tweaking to get a passable sound there are a lot of little tips and tricks with pod stuff to get passable sounds, res control at 0 and a pre/amp setup has really given me some good results sounds even better through the return of my krank
Just got mine. Impressed so far.
It sounds really nice from here. Damn good actually.🤘🤘🤘🤘. I should of watched till the end. It's your IR that made it sound great.
I got to go to an Open House that Line 6 did. Part of the tour you go past the hall of Amps. They have some awesome amps that they Model. I got stuck in there just looking at all the amps that they have. I was really Impressed with there setup and Engineering dept.
I was waiting for this video 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
If I played live or with other people at all, I would totally pick this up. But I only play at my desk a the moment. Maybe some day I'll pick this up! 😊
Hi there ola been catching your show for about a year now and i gotta say the way u do your channel is very fresh and funny, but educational with all the tech and instruments you discuss.getting to the point, i dont know if you ever showcased the rocktron widowmaker as it could have been earlier and i missed it, i know this unit has been out for some time now so if you have done so i apologize, and if you haven't i would definitely like to see your spin on it as you really know how to put preamps through their paces to show the pro's and cons, sorry to ramble on, just a big fan keep up the good work brother
6:00 you hit one of the main weaknesses in the Helix/POD line of products. (BTW, this is the new POD, not the new Helix, which makes it a huge upgrade for PODs to carry Helix software and limited features.) The cabs are models, not impulse response recordings, and they all sound a little "off". I used stock cabs for 2yrs before buying the OH core bundle, and it changed the whole device for me.
2:01 - "0LA Olas Balls" Amazing.
I think the Rev sounded best with your IR. Line 6 has always had weak IRs but amazing fx. I’d love to get your cab sound if it’s available.
I really liked using the Bogner Uber Cab IR from Rosen Digital/Lancaster Audio with the Revv Generator Red amp model with the Pod Go.
Ola rules !!! Thanks man!
Ive found the ir's on the unit need lots of EQ, particularly when using high gain - i think they could have done better. Crunch and cleans are pretty good. Still very happy with the unit, the effects are amazing in stereo and the functionality is great.
Havent played electric since the Vamp came out...They deff came a long way with the tech. They meaning in general
This video is a good example of why I stopped using modelers. I was spending so much time toggling back and forth between models and settings that I was spending more time tweaking than playing - always lookign for somethign that sounded just a tiny bit better. Give me a quality real tube amp with one or two great sounds any day over this infinite variability and option paralysis.
I got a good sound out of this in a single sitting, whereas I've owned a Mesa dual rec for years and still am not happy with how it sounds. It depends highly on the player, and your know-how.
I love my pod go. You get a whole lot more than your paying for with it. Probably the best purchase I’ve made in a damn long time. With the pod go edit you can really get deep into it. It’s crazy. Only bd thing I can say about it is that when updating the firmware, be really careful. I turned mine into a brick for about 2 hours after I got it. But luckily I figured out how to get it to boot up. Other than that it’s highly worth buying.
Also tweeking the global settings for high and low cuts make a lot of difference in the presets. Makes it sound more authentic
Best comment ever
My favourite guitar RUclips channel
Line 6 is still behind the times when it comes to cabinet simulation... even on the Helix I didn't think it was great.
I sold my kemper stage for the pod go.
It provides me with everything i need
and in the band mix nobody hears the difference to the high end modelers
I was choking on my water when that fart sound effect popped out of nowhere lmao
What have we learned? That that mic on that cab is incredible.
Thanks Ola 🔥 Yeah Line 6 should definitely work on their Impulse Responses. Otherwise great stuff
Diggin your Doom shirt. I'm a huge Doom fan myself
Was debating on buying this, but I waited to hear your words on it. Finally!
Yes I was seriously thinking about getting this instead of having to lug around gear especially since it's so expensive to ship from state to state..
Noice, just got mine today!
I'm not super knowledgeable on tones and stuff, but to me some of those standard impulse responses sound great! For the price and for someone just starting out, I'm pretty into this and I'm considering picking one up. Thanks for the video Ola, even if I'm a bit late to it
Haha yes, all of those cabs sounded very good and actually noticeably different from each other. Guess Ola was going for a different sound
Just like you said, add a 3rd party IR, and it takes the Pod Go to the next level. Sounds amazing (..and I'm a Kemper guy!) I think it sounded GREAT once you kicked in your IR. Rediculous amount of value and capability. Nice work!
What's a IR? sorry I'm ignorant of it.
@@lequitakeen1957 Impulse Response...It affects your tone & feel by about 50-80 %...The better the "IR" the more real feeling it sounds..more convincing..Ola speaks of this in great detail in this video..
Im trying to get PodGo to work with my tubeamp, its difficult to make it sound good. Gotta read more i guess
I've always had to cut high/ low gain on the stock cabs to get them to sound decent on the Helix.
Switched to OwnHammer Mesa 4x12 impulse. never lookin back
Will it chug?:
-Reverse flying V
-Marshall MS-2
-Korg Miku Stomp
Korg miku chuggiest of them all
Add Electro Harmonix Nano Green Russian reissue as well.
ruclips.net/video/WPY9yq7Wulo/видео.html ms2
I just bought one of these and right before I did I went to see if you had a video on it lol
As soon as you plugged into the real cab, it’s like all the stars just aligned. Those built in IR’s were 😖.
Agreed, especially when Ola do the gallop picking. Tight and pleasant.
Your mesa IR sounds insanely good
The Best intro of the world !
Good stuff thank you - your awsome!! Can you please do a tutorial on what this setup is that your getting your sound. Is it from studio speakers with you Line 6 Pod Go plugged directly in - would like to see the routing of your cables and any type of interfaces you have going - Cheers !!
Ola does Evergrey, love it!
Even Ola’s “shitty riffs” sound way better than my best 🤦♂️😆😆. @Ola Englund, thanks for doing this video man! You kick ass!
Yep ola your right ….I have both headrush and pod go ..,headrush fir metal is just killer …your patch fir headrush is awesome I use it all the time
Love my POD Go
This is a Helix LT lite rather than a POD series gear.
Bro, you're getting to one mil. I'm calling it.
Like the Evergrey riff🤘🏻
This is great, as a drummer who also likes to write, I already spend too much on drum gear, so spending a ton on guitar gear is silly. I need something like this just to make music on my own.
Thanks for the video and helping me in my decision making process 🤘🤘
Hey Ola, try using the noise gate that's on the input. I think it works better, and saves a block. 🤘
Just got the POD Go. Was getting same error with Revv Purple as well as with other modules/pedals. Firmware update did solve it.
i own a helix lt and hx stomp with the orange /suhr/and engl/cab irs from celestion and the rev gen purple my chuggs are sick thanks for all the metal content ola /,,/
i really want to know if ola grew up with hip hop how his life would be as a producer making beats on mpc2000xl and old samplers like a king
That IR you have sounds killer! Is it the same Hesu 2x12 IR you had on the Headrush site a while back?
Awesome
When will you have Coffee with Chuck Billy of Testament?
or better: Alex Skolnick
or better: Dean Lamb
Chuck Billy should bring one of those coffee mugs with a weed pipe built into it for his episode. 😂
Or Paul Davids?
Here is some he should do coffee with. Aishoku Aisaka of Myukokei Line, Atsushi Yokozeki Of Kinniku Shoujo Tai (since 1988-1989), and Daron Malakian Of System Of A Down
that guitar is sick
Just recently picked this up and you're right. The included cab IR's do suck.
What a nice multi pedal I just got one last week .
awesome!
I have an HX Stomp and I use the Bogren IRs with it and I am really liking the resuts. Not much of a fan of the built-in IRs myself.
THE BEST OLA......OLA THE MAN!!!
try sending your tube amp's preamp into the pod go guitar imput then the amp out into the return of your tube amp. turn off amp distortion in the pod go and just use it for after effects like modulators and delays. you can program one of the pod go buttons to switch between channels on your tube amp.
Thanks for this video ;)
I want that thing !
I literally choked laughing at the beginning😂😂
Damn that sounds sweet @1:40 !
11:38 Ola always paying attention to details 😂👌
cabs, be they IR or simulated, have always been line 6's weakness. i found them fine for bass, but i have a physical cab for guitar.
5:30 more than ever from Evergrey! 🤘
I wish someone will give that kind of guitar this christmas.
Funny you say that about the badonk. I did a short video a few weeks ago about the badonk being the best model for metal in the helix line. It doesn’t sound as good at this though lol
11:38 Was just casually playing me some MGSV while you scared the s**t out of me but it's cool
Hey Ola, can you make your own Mesa Oversized 4x12 IR you are using in this video available or buyable? Would be great thx!
Evergrey.....I love it when you go full Swede.
More Than Ever ❤️
Evergrey 🤘😎🤘❤️
Spearfast wrong
Spearfast I don’t really care what you think and I’m not a teen moron
I'm using the Revv red with the Blackback 30 4x12 cab sim....holy shit!!!!
Ok im sold
Is that impulse response you used in the video available to the public? I NEED IT
I think the pre amp is lower because you have to go into options and set it for the right impedance. i think... i just got mine too.
