Aww, I wish we could have seen the whole show from backstage and see how everyone gets the next set ready, how the actors run to do their costume changes, etc :(
Wicked panto
Omg yes
Honestly even seeing a video from on-stage as the music starts to play and the stage-lighting fades out gives me chills. What a privilege to be on stage for that show.
This was really cool!! People do need to understand, as she said, the process is 100% collaborative and each person has a job to contribute to the show the public ultimately sees. The playwrights, composers, lyricists, are also unseen backstage - but without them there would be no show! Loved seeing and hearing the various people working backstage. Please do more videos like this in the future. 😊
This was so cool! There are so many videos of behind the scenes with the actors in broadway shows, but it's awesome to see what the stage managers do :)
Excellent insight to a world rarely seen. Thank you!
i only pray to find my previous work experiences with theatre will keep me humble and grateful to hopefully work with a great group one day like this. This is why i do this. Women like you Marybeth Abel and my fav production and stage manager- Paris Rhodes remind me of the why i do this. People like you hold it ALL together! Thanks in advance!
That was like the best backstage video ever. Didn't know all this went into a Broadway show... it's cool how they also know to make their jobs fun!!
Thx for posting!
this just makes me want to be on Broadway even more!!! love this backstage vid!
Though she's very busy I appreciate her good attitude 💗
wow, there is a lot more to these shows than meets the eye
Wonderful video, thanks to everyone involved!
a steamer. You put in water then it boils it then you breathe in the vapour. It helps with the throat and vocal chords. It basically opens your throat up so you reduce strain on it when you sing which is the big trick with singing and singing like these guys do 8 shows a week.
Thank you MaryBeth, so informative, you are so on your game
I love Mary Beth I remember her from the Flygirl vlogs and even though she was only in it for a few seconds she was hilarious
I know this is an old video, but it was so informative and entertaining! I always wanted to work for a production in Mary Beth's capacity, but never knew how to go about it... so instead I sit at a desk and watch these videos :(
What a great video, came across this by chance hadn't seen it in my travels.
Wow. Very well done. Marabeth seems to be a FAB stage manager!
wow everything is so last minute!
Yep that's theatre. The more last minute the better it is because it gives you less time to think about what could go wrong. Or at least that's how I look at it.
This video is fantastic. It's stuff like this that make me want to work as a stagehand on Broadway. So neat!

I wonder if she can call security if she sees someone recording the show. I've heard that it's pretty easy to be caught filming the show at the Gershwin Theatre.
best backstage video ever
Could we get another BWW video? She's still at the show. Would be fun to see what's changed in 12 years.
SONSHINE!!! I used to work with her at Sight and Sound Theaters here in PA! And how comes there is always video gotta he of the bubble being prepared but never the defying gravity lift as she comes down from the end of the song? Just curious.
First time I have scene a Broadway radio world (the sound stuff at 1:07) in one of these vids. As an aspiring theatre sound engineer, interesting to get fleeting glimpses of this stuff.
THIS IS WHAT I LOVE AND WANT TO BE A PART OF. I LOVE THIS AND WANT IT TO BE MY LIFE
If I already didn't want to become an SM, this would have sparked it.
The term "Deck Captain" is not a term used in most professional theatres. If the production stage manager is calling the show, then they often have assistant stage managers who are involved in all the activities on the stage and are probably more similar to the "deck captain" idea you may be familiar with. If you are interested in stage management, check out Lawrence Stern's Stage Management book. Other good ones by Daniel Ionazzi, Tom Kelly, and Larry Fazio.
Brilliant video!
This is great!
It's my dream to be part of this wonderful producion, i'd live to play glinda, but i don't need to play her, i'll be as happy if i could be in the ensamble! And btw thnx, great video!
Great, great video!
It's my dream to be in Wicked!! I would love to be Boq in it!!
Wicked london show show actors best show show
I actually have been told I could play a guys part very well. I have a naturally low voice and am quite well suited for the part of Fiyero. So when you see my name in shining lights as Fiyero, remember this day.
Dee!!! She's so amazing.
I always wish I could be in wicked
I study at Baruch College NY (if you live in NY) look into AMDA (the also have another school in LA I believe. another one in NY is Hunter College I know they offer dance and I think Musical theater is part of that curriculum.
It's my dream to Elphaba, too! Maybe I'll see you at an audition. ;) (Hopefully not the same one though, because I wish for us to both get the part! You can be on Broadway and I'll do the National Tours or vice-versa. xD)
To confirm what w001mpb is saying- "Deck Captain" is not a term that we use in professional theatre. Stage Managers who work on either side of the stage during the run of a show are said to be "running the deck" or "running deck cues." If you have any other questions about Stage Management, don't hesitate to ask! And check out our page and website to learn more.
Bengals fan!! Fiyero's shirt at 5:30

Man, I miss being on Broadway. Nothing else comes close.....
A Vapor machine...it helps with her vocals.
well my major in college is theater administration so I'm hoping that get's me somewhere,
Though it is unlikely, it is not impossible! And I personally can't wait until I see a female playing a male's part. No dream is stupid, and I think it's really awesome you want to play a role many females wouldn't even think of attempting! Dance on, my friend! And never stop trying :D
I'd like to see the per set of the show
That bubble looks scary
Not even it looks so fun
+epicmaddie That's not a "bubble" - that's a small section of scaffolding O.o
I'm studying broadway singing and acting in hopes to be Fiyero on Broadway!
This is the Broadway cast in New York City, NY
Wicked is Wicked.
Why where it part 2
I wish to go on that
Me too !
But I have no idea on how to do it !
What about you ?
Yes?
Can Irish students apply?
*pre set
2:00 lol
So funny
Doulas... not a midwife but certainly helps the midwife.
And if your dream is to crush other people's dreams then your dream is stupid. Thank you and have a nice day.
But not. A professional company would never cross-cast a principal role unless it was specifically stated in text.
I hate to be the "your dream is stupid" guy, but your dream is stupid.
Where are you studying ? Because I am looking for a good school that offers a good musical theater program =).
Anywhere. =)
