Without question Samsung refrigerators are no good too many dilemmas do not buy them stay away
@@johnlanhamsr.2541 100% - I also have SO many problems with my Samsung refrigerator. I would advise anyone to not buy Samsung for refrigerators - they are so faulty.
Thanks for taking the time to post this. Very helpful!
I see that these post are from a long time ago, but came across searching for answers on our Samsung French Door unit that was not cooling lately. So watched your video and it was very helpful. While our unit is 6 yrs old, its surprising that this just started. Anyway, found drain was clogged, the fan wiring to the wall connector seem rusted and came off quite quickly, so this needed to be re-soldered and added silicone to the inside cap to protect. One thing I did find, and not sure anyone else noted this, but the bottom screw that holds the middle support bracket is quite long, and I think it penetrated the drain line as the screw had rust, and rust was around the screw hold in wall. Notice during defrosting that water would occasionally come out the hole. So I sealed it with a little silicone, found a shorter screw and put back. So far the temp is running at 39 degrees. But will monitor for a few days before putting food back. But thanks for sharing your insight to this samsung problem..
Thank you for this great video.I'm experiencing ice build up on my Samsung RF261BEAESP, which stopped cooling.I'm going to look you guys up after the holiday

Great video do you have the link where to buy the parts from?
This video is great thank you for the info , I had the same issue with my fridge and I replace the heating element but it’s still freezing up , do you think it’s the fan probably not working properly ? My fridge is the Samsung RF18HFENBSR
Some believe the sensor shouldn’t mount directly above the heat that rises from the right side. They move the sensor to the left, clamping it instead around the adjacent copper tube. Also, thawing the edges of the plastic cover before trying to disengage it from the back wall may help prevent it breaking during the effort. Also, replacing the heater drain probe with a new, long tongue style can help keep the drain port from freezing up. Otherwise, thank you for a well-done video with steps that are easily viewed and understood, unlike some others that are not thought out well in advance and are clumsily presented.
Excellent video, thanks. I was defrosting every few months and tried a new solution. About 6 months ago, after it froze again I bumped up the recommended temp setting to 40 and 0, instead of 38 and -2. I put a towel in the front of the front of the bottom (frozen) drawer and the towel began getting wet, to the point that I had to replace it every day. After about 2 weeks of this the bottom drawer became unstuck. I took it out and was able to pull out a thick sheet of ice that covered most of the bottom of the ref. I dried everything out and it's now 6 months later and everything appears to me working fine running the higher temps. I have a towel under the drawer and it has remained dry. It might just be a quick temp fix someone so inclined. Thanks again for the detailed explanation.
Thank you so much for posting this video, I have that exact fridge. Although my issue was different, I still needed to get that back cover off to expose the coils. I'm glad you also included instruction on removing the double drawer top, it was getting the best of me. Thanks again!

The heater cable you installed is plug and play but besides being new, is it any better (different) than the one you replaced? ALL Samsung Fridges have this issue so they obviously need a bigger/better heater coil.

This video is an enormous help. I'm not all that familiar with the general design of a refrigerator. When the water goes down the drain shown in the video, where does it go? I ask because my Samsung has a great deal of ice build-up, so as it melts, do I need to worry about something flooding someplace?

halkarp Did you ever get an answer to this question? I need to thaw mine as well. Thanks
It goes to a tray in the lower rear of the refrigerator and is evaporated by heat from another component... so don't worry about it, but also don't pour TONS of water down it because it could overwhelm the evaporation process.
Great video!
Thanks
Good video.
On my fridge (RF266AEPN) which seems like the same model you are working on, right above the thermistor clip on the upper right, there appears to a 'tootsie roll' of some putty or something. On my fridge, that 'tootsie roll' melted over the thermistor clip.
I'm wondering if there is an explanation for that?

Thank you I need to try this my fridge also makes a loud popping and cracking day and night . Do you have an idea what that might be it sounds like crushing ice and turning ice . I do not have the water hooked up and never has been and the ice mode is off . I see on the web many people have this prob. As well. That's the sound I hear before ice consumes the fan and stops cooling
I hear the loud cracking popping sounds when ice is building up behind the back panel inside the fridge. That happened before I replaced the dinky tab that directed water into the drain tube that Samsung provided. You can buy a replacement tab on Amazon. 6 years later, same thing started happening. I replaced the heater coil about 5 weeks later it froze up again. Next I'll try replacing the heat sensor. If that doesn't work I may just pitch this stupid refrigerator. Never buying another Samsung again!

Hello, I have a Samsung refrigerator model RF28HMEDBSR and the fridge cools but the freezer does not, do you know how I can fix it?
How did you know that the heating element was bad without testing it? Or the temperature sensor? Usually, the problem is just a plugged drain and there is a new, larger OEM replacement part that clamps around the heating element to prevent the drain from freezing.

Finally found a permanent fix. After having a repairman twice come out and defrost the back panel I tried it myself and accidentally removed some of the Styrofoam shroud encasing the fan. That removal of Styrofoam seems to have permanently resolved the problem. We also make sure the panel vents are not blocked off by food in both sections and leave space around it to allow it to shed heat. Other than removing the shelves and 4 screws it is an easy fix.
Where and how much did you remove? Have mine apart as we speak.
@@douglasblack3865 Since I didn’t totally defrost before removing the panel it was a pretty big chunk that tore off when I pried the panel off. In other words around the fan and close to the coil. My guess is the extra area allows defrost to work better. Given the tightness of the panel I didn’t see much advantage to having it. Before freeze ups were an every six month problem, now it’s going on almost 2 years without a problem.
I have put mine on Forced Defrost and let it sit for 20 minutes beeping and then removed the back panel and the heater coil was not hot at all. Would you suggest the thermostat part, the fuse part, or the heater coil itself if that is the case? I have to defrost the ice every 3 weeks in mine as it never melts off.

My refrigerator started doing the same thing. It started freezing up in shorter time frame intervals too. Cleaning out the drain tubes on the back of the fridge stopped the whole problem. @@yellowribbon9118 has the back of your Samsung frozen since you replaced the parts? Have you had a chance to be able to tell if it's made a difference?
Great video thank you!!! But I have a question. A few days ago the fan was making a terrible noise and I found ice near the top. I unplugged for a few hours but apparently not long enough. Since then the noise had stopped but I noticed the fridge section was not cooling. Fridge was at 50 and the freezer was at 0. Found this video, took the panel off, and low and behold the ice on top of the coils, around the fan, and on the bottom plugging up the drain. So I am thinking its the defroster. But you told a poster ice building up near the fan is usually air and humidity from bad seal. Your video shows ice near the top by the fan section but you replaced the defroster. Is there a way to test the defroster?
Ice most likely got on the fan blade and it was out of balance, That will make a vibration noise. By defrosting the ice corrected your problem. Thank you for your positive comment . Since I'm in South Africa where can I get the parts for my fridge as it's not cooling ? I'll be happy if you give me the supplier numbers specifically in the Free State or any other place in SA .
You should test each part with specs from a service manual. My problem was only the defrost sensor ($7 part from Sears). The manual shows auto diagnostic tests and will tell you the ohm reading for a defrost sensor at room temperature. It is not the same for each refrigerator. Test the heating element for continuity. Test the bimetal thermostat for continuity at temps shown in the manual (e.g. mine opens at 140 degrees). Main circuit board is probably OK if your readout looks normal.

chris,
in the 2 or more years since they put the wire in it has happened only once but I think the kids left the freezer open when it happened. it was a constant problem and was either overflowing or would freeze under the crispers with water flowing out under the ice and over edge to freezer door. Crappy design for an expensive fridge. after they fixed it I no longer have water outside from the door panel. I still get ice and so I have not bothered to do anything about it or complain

How much does that repair typically cost?
@@rosieherrera3863 Have you found out yet?
Hey awesome video, but I have a question. I have the same fridge and it seems to be cooling fine, no issues there, but I recently noticed a loud fan related noise. Upon further inspection I found there to be ice build up in the top section where the fan is. Is this a precursor to my heating unit going or can I just clear the ice and be ok? I had the fridge set to factory setting, not overly cool and anything like that. Any info would be great because the noise is quite annoying, thanks!
We're happy you liked our video! When you are getting frost build up around the fan, it is not caused by a defective defrost heater. The most common cause is air and humidity leakage. You could have a bad refrigerator or freezer door seal, or if you have an ice dispenser through the door, the flap in the door may not be closing all the way.
I also am getting ice build up around the fan and behind that cover. I've defrosted it before and removed all ice but it keeps happening. Please let me know whats parts I could order to permanently fix this problem.
did that also fix ice scraping with the fan motor in that section ?

Is the ice build-up a sign of failed "heating element?? A refrigerator repairman told me to just defrost it and put it all back together if the fan works.
If yes, and I need the heating element only as in the posted video - what is the ordering number for the heating element only?
+Rudy Kardos Generally with these refrigerators, there is nothing wrong with the heater element. Its the computer that tells it when to heat up, which is not working. You can test the heater element with a ohm meter to see if its shorted out. Like I said, most of the time the heater element is fine.

Hello I have a Frigidaire and has no circuitboard I replace the defrost timer and defrost sensor yet it’s still ice builds up on the course when I manually turn on the defrost defrost the ice what do I do now
Our Fridge and Freezer seem to be cooling fine but we started to notice large amounts of water under the Vegetable trays just and noticed the holes down the right side of the Duel cooling full of ice chunks. I have taken everything apart and am letting it all thaw with the doors open. The drain seemed totally clear when I poured hot water down it. Just like in your video there is a chunk of ice above the heater by the screw hole. The Vent hole further down that I assume leads to the Freezer had some black mildew. We have also had lots of problem with our seal getting mildew on them but decided against replacements when we looked at the cost unless we are sure that is the problem. I want to be sure we are replacing the correct part. Can you give any specifics on how to test to see if the problem is the Heater, sensor or something else? Does it seem strange that there is mildew around the pipe to the freezer? We live in Florida so Humidity and mildew is always something we chase, plus with 3 kids they have left the door ajar more than once. I have not had any fan noises that people have mentioned.
Have you seen any gaps in the door seals ? In the freezer or refrigerator seals ? If so that is where the ice is coming from. If not do you have an ice dispenser that dispenses ice in your door ? If so your door baffle may not be closing all the way and causing the ice issue. If your seals are sealing good with no visible gaps especially on the bottom, run your fingers underneath to be sure. Dont replace the seals, get baking soda and and hot water and tooth brush to get the mold off them. Only replace them if the magnet starts coming off or if its ripped. If none of these suggestions are your issue, send me your model number so I can give you more suggestions. This is also an extremely common defect in this fridge. You will have to replace the entire back fan panel. The fix takes less time than packing all the food out and back in. There are 3 screws holding that fan/coil cover in place. During the defrost cycle, the water drips down the front of the cover and into the fridge section. Alternately, you can take it apart. It will be rusted. Clean it, put wax on the metal bent piece, bend it more towards the back of the fridge to try and make sure the water goes in the drain, then balance the fridge to make sure it leans back further.
Great video, My problem is that the freeze is cooling properly but refrigerator is not, had massive ice build up and fan noise from top fan, unplugged refrigerator let set for 24 hours, freezer reached temperature but refrigerator has not, you do not feel no air flow from the top of refrigerator, chiller compartment is getting cooler than frigerator, could top fan be bad?
You may still have ice in the air duct going to the refrigerator section. I suggest you shut it off with doors open for 24 more hours, If you had ice build up you most likely have a part of your defrost system that is defective. Possibly your defrost timer, therm or heater. Our family-owned and operated company worked hard to provide you with FREE, high-quality repair videos. Ok but how do you diagnose that the heater is not working. I got same problem but I checked for power at the fan and did not get any voltage so if the fan does not turn also the evaporator will freeze. How do I check if the board I'd bad ? I checked power goes in but I could not see going out I'm old and even with glasses could not see the letter on the board .

Hi,
I have a Samsung refrigerator model # RS267TDTRS/XAA and it keeps having ice build up on the regular fridge side and not cooling at all. This had happened many times! I just took it a part a week ago and ice completely encased the fan so much that it couldn't move and the coils were covered with ice. I wanted to order the same parts you're reparing in this video. I ordered these two parts from you folks: the SAM DA61-06031A - FIXER-HEATER SUB;HAEMIL1 and the SAM DA32-00029Q - SENSOR TEMP;DTN-C502G6X. Did I order the correct parts? Please let me know because it that's not it I want to call back and place the correct order. Thank you!
Yes, those are correct. Let us know how the repair goes. Thanks Matt

How do you know if the problem is the Heater-Metal SHEATH;120V or the defrost thermostat? I have a Model rf263beaebc that works wonderful until the fan starts clicking and the temperature in the fridge stops cooling. I've left it off and open for 16 hours and it worked again list a charm for about three weeks and I was right back with the same issue. Samsung acts like my problem is isolated but with the number of videos out here and posts on blogs, I don't think I'm alone. I don't know if there is a simple answer to my question or it's a gamble as to what the issue is.

Hi Shawn, thanks for the great video. My Samsung rs25h5111sr/aa had ice build up in the fridge section which affected the temperature in that section. I took the cover off to melt the ice but the temperature was still high. I then changed the temperature sensor with no luck. Now the temperature is around 39- 44 degrees. When I checked the evaporator coils, I realized no ice is forming on them. Do you know what could be the cause of this problem? The freezer works great. Thanks.

I've found out that this part, DA96-00516B Evaporator and Defrost, is no longer available. I searched two diff. appliance stores online. But this part # includes the entire assembly, not just the heater part, which the video shows being replaced. Has anybody found just the heater part? Thx.
I have a similar model ( RF265AB ) - I had recent fried the mainboard because the ice maker had broken & the wires on that shorted. In any case, when the repair guy was out diagnosing that (I replaced mainboard myself, but didn't identify problem ), he mentioned that there was a simple repair to stop the RF265AB from frosting over -- you basically "lower the heater" a small amount. It wasn't clear to me how to do this given that the components are zip-tied and given cable lengths.
Right now, I just turn the fridge OFF every 1-2 months, let it defrost and suck out the water (or use towel), but I would like to find a longer term fix. Any ideas?

Thought I would follow up - the answer at this link in Samsung community says the problem is that water is getting where it shouldn't get because the fridge is not properly leveled. This could be a similar concept to changing the heater location which the tech mentioned to me three years ago. elements should come on and should be able to test 110V Correct?

Thermal fuse (Red black /w white foam) = 0 ohms

ARIFUNSIZE. Here in Thailand we bought a Samsung fridge / freezer. .Had to call the engineer out during the warranty period following a power cut, which are quite regular. He was clued up and explained the software is sensitive to power surges. Recommended we unplug the machine overnight 5 and get surge protection fitted to the outlet the machine was plugged into. Told us to call him if we still had problems. No need, all was well after.
PLEASE READ!!! Had to do this every 6 months until I read that if you spray "Pam" on the coils it will prevent ice buildup. So I tried it and haven't had a problem since. 5 years and still no ice build up!

I have a similar Samsung. The display says it's cold, but it's not. It makes a rapid banging clattering sound like fan blades hitting a chunk of ice, then after a few days, the fan stops altogether. I pulled the cover off the evaporator and noticed that the ice was only built up where the copper tubing goes into the wall, not all through the evaporator where the fins are. The ice accumulation is also near the fan on my model, thus the noise.
I fixed it by wrapping those tubes with foam insulation and duct tape, finishing it off with gap filler. Now, all the tubing without fins is insulated. Let's see if it works.

A couple of possibilities 1) Defective display main control board 3) One of the thermistors sensing wrong temperature. With this type of issue you will need to test the components. Please help us provide more videos to our site by

I have a Samsung mod RB215BSSW bottom freezer unit. When I awoke yesterday morning, the temp indicator was flashing, and the freezer temp had risen to +5 degrees from my set point of -4. I went on line to Samsung's web site, and followed all of their suggestions including cleaning the condenser(s). I have removed the food. The compressor is running, and the frig is at normal temp. The freezer is now very erratic, and the temp indicator showed -12 this AM with the set point at -4. I am having a hard time finding someone to service this unit. I have been using this unit since 09/28/2006, I hope you can help me.

Michelle Hernandez It is an indicator to remind you to change your water filter it just means it has been 6 months since it was last reset which is done when you change your water filter. You can reset it by pressing the ICE/Water button for 3 secs or look on panel for info it usually tells you how to reset or do a google search for your model or check your manual. This light will turn pink at 5 months then red at 6 months. Keep in mind the fridge does not know how much water you have actually used through the filter which is supposedly good for 300 gallons so you don't necessarily need to change the filter every 6 months you can just reset the light if you want but I would imagine you would want to change your filter at a minimum once per year. I would write down somewhere memorable when you last changed your filter if you choose to reset the light without replacing the water filter.
Kellyr95 thank you.😊
