I remember seeing this and back then I wasn't too much of a fan of the song, but now I'm hearing it again I like it way more. I also agree with this song being suitable as a James Bond theme.
Got my vote in 2014. What great lyrics and performance. 2021 still love it.

I saw Tom Neuwirth as a contestant in an austria singer competition. He had an extraordinary voice, very well trained (Musical) and very handsome and intelligent guy. I was astonished how a man could sing like that in the powerful high voice (In that time I didn’t know Dimash 😂).
He was a slim not very tall and very young man - that was his „handicap“. After the show, he told there was nobody who takes him serious because of his stature and he struggled therefore a lot. Besides this he outet himself - that was a big problem in this time.
So he said, if you want to reduce me to a little gay guy and not hear my voice - you get what you want and he created „Conchita Wurst“
He said - now as Conchita - I can wear high heels therefore I am tall enough.
And he succeeded 😂
Buy the way - he prefers „She when he is „Conchita“ and „He“ when he is Tom Neuwirth. He is a very humble and highly intelligent man with a lot of humor.

Rise like aphoenix has actually a history with Conchita Wurst. Conchita Wurst is a character from the Singer Tom Neuwirth. In 2007 Tom stared in an austrian singing Show called Starmania, there he got the second place. After the show he had a short run with a boyband called Jetzt Anders! that dident survive the year. His solo trys did also not got any push. In 2011 he came back as Conchita Wurst and this was the time he startet do get top places in the german speaking music charts. So Tom Neuwirth is literly singing with this Song his musik carear.
Now I'm not sure how Conchita wishes to be addressed, but so be it, I'll choose for 'she/her'.
She definitely was a pretty important artist for opening up the general public towards trans people. I can clearly remember my somewhat younger and more limited person seeing this and thinking this was just too much. Didn't hate it, didn't dislike her, just didn't feel the need to watch it.
Nowadays this feels much more accepted in our (Dutch) society, even though there's still too much needless hate and misunderstandings around.
I can't even imagine being bothered by other peoples life choices, whether it regards life choices, sexuality, sexual preference, gender or whatsoever. Life and let live, unless it hurts others...
Seeing this again after so many years it looks completely different, this is simply a beautiful performance.

After all a great song, but at that evening i was not so happy because Ilse and Waylon did not win they became 2nd. Hope you are still going to do a broadcast from all the winners as you had planed to do.
As a fellow dutchie i don't agree. I think this song, espacialy song by someone who obviously has risen like a fenix had a great message. But hey, we can agree to disagree right ;)
@@xztream2455 That is what i am saying it is a great song but as being Dutch i wanted us to win after so many years, but after all those years i have forgotten this and am glad this song won.
The Common Linnets were also my favourites, the song is still my best Eurovision song. but the winning song Rise like a phoenix brought something more than just a song, so I think it deservedly won. It's a shame that the Dutch performed just this year, because they are much better than many Eurovision winners so far. But later Duncan won, who also deserved to win, I was very happy. If you want to have a real good laugh you should react to a song from the Eurovision Songcontest in 1998. It is the German entry by Guildo Horn, with The titel Guildo hat euch lieb. That means Guildo loves you all. His performance is crazy and it gets crazier and crazier. Some people said it was a scandal and that he should have been stopped, but i don’f agree. I laughed myself to tears, and i still watch it sometimes if i need a good laugh.

I still found Guildo Horn very funny, but to each his own, if that is the right expression. By the way, hé did win an award, but is was the award that nobody wants to get. It was the Barbara Dex award given to the worst dressed contestant. I suspect that he did not mind this at all! Anyway, thanks for your three reactions. I really enjoyed them all.
