The singer is a male...simply wearing a wig, dress and make-up...that anyone can buy...but the voice is pure talent. Give that powerful voice a great song with powerful lyrics and maximize the production...and the result is the 'win' on so many levels. The singer (stage name Conchita) was the perfect choice.

I always found it a bit sad that boys and men are socially not "allowed" to wear clothes and dresses. It's such a beautiful thing and so comfortable, especially in the summer. But, maybe Americans don't know that there was a political background to Conchita's win: Russia was putting gay people into jail, Turkey refused to participate in the contest, as long as Conchita would appear, and several Eastern-European countries objected as well ... So, though many people like him and his song, the vote for winner from the audience was political as well. Including me! Btw.: I always liked Tom's style of clothes - he/she has also proven very intelligent in interviews.
