They like to make a profit on the panels and the installation they probably buy the panels cheaper than you anyway. like garages. Garage charge you for the parts with a massive mark up when I was after a clutch for my van Euro parts quoted me about £300 When I said had cheaper quote, they said we’ll match it. I think Moto mania quoted me £200 I bought it off eBay £80. ❤
It has opened up a can of worms with all the companies I've contacted. MCS CERTIFIED is not even a legal requirement. But it is needed for a feed in tariffs 😭
I had a garage repair shop years ago. I often had people say - how much to fit XYZ ? - My answer was - are you supplying the parts - if so the fitting cost is double. Why? Because if / when the cheaper item failed they wanted me to fix it under warantee - hence the extra fee. So, sourcing the panels at a cheaper cost is OK but that voids any warrantee on the installers work. He/she will not accept any falts of failures so it could be a costly job to get someone back to fix a faulty panel. Just my opinion but something to be considered.
@@sun-sea-solar totally agree they will probably be absolutely fine. Just ask them to warantee their part of the instal. Any installer worth their salt would do that.
@rosslomath after lots of phone calls I do agree most of the installers. It was more trying to educate people that the cost of solar equipment isn't always straight forward and I hope they do their own research before accepting quotes.
I'd be surprised if a tradesman installed something that they hadn't supplied themselves. Several reasons, firstly the obvious trade discount & mark-up, secondly, if something goes wrong, who takes the rap, thirdly, if it is unfamiliar equipment, then there is additional risk for the installer. Fourthly, for inverters and batteries, usually the installer needs to be certified with that particular equipment to get the warranty & to get the manufacturer to activate it within their cloud services. Panels are simple though, so shouldn't have a learning curve, and there is no on-boarding process with panels. So it'd mainly be the first two factors.
That's been the general opinion of all the installers that I've contacted. Basically they don't want to lose the profit on the panels. Despite losing profits on the rest of the job. They would prefer to lose out on the whole job. With regards the warranty. In the 2 years I've had my own panels in a ground array I've never had one single issue. When you start looking at optimisers and micro inverters then you're asking for trouble.

@@martprice7726 thanks for the comments. It is a big difference in price. So far no one has taken the job.

That sorta pricing is absolutely adsurd to be honest
@@abdulmalikyakubu3045 unfortunately I'm not getting very far. Most of the companies are saying a point blank no.
@sun-sea-solar you might just end up having to DIY the whole thing if you have the time, and I thought it was expensive in my country🤦♂️
@@abdulmalikyakubu3045 extremely high mark up on equipment unless you know where to look 😉
@@sun-sea-solar well I hope you can find a better deal or at least you are able to get a company not trying to legally rob you
Just have to wait and see. Could be interesting journey

Totally understand that. But these are the exact same panels the companies are buying!! Same brand, even the same supplier

@@PaulRansonArt appreciate the comments. Had a few interesting opinions already. Nice to read comments from both sides
You also have other aspects of compatibility and configuration, fixing etc.

Same experience, makes NO sense to hire "professionals" for an boff grid system of your can do most of the installation yourself
