    Great report. I personally LOVE Railjets trains. Actually CD will put into operations another 10 Railjet style trains (5 coaches per train) in next months for lines Prague - Pilsen - Cheb and Prague - Ústí nad Labem - Cheb. Also between 2023 - 2025 another 20 Railjet style trains (9 coaches per train) should be put into operation for lines Prague - Berlin/Hamburg and Prague - Bratislava/Budapest.
    Greetings from Brno ;)

      Let me just correct you. the trains running between Prague and Cheb will be known as the InterJet. These cars were originally intended to operate as regular RailJets, but they ended up assigned to these less important routes for a reason I can't remember.

    • @bertramnedbal8480
      @bertramnedbal8480 3 года назад +2

      @@wimex9062 They were actually intended for the Prague - Budapest (Metropolitan) line, but they were reassigned, most likely due to the 9-car sets being better suited for that route.
      The problem with the 5-car sets was that they would need additional cars added to every trainset due to insufficient capacity. Also, they didn't include a restaurant car, which would have to be added to the end of the train, making people from 2nd class walk through the first class area to get there.
      Honestly, I have no idea why they thought a 5-car trainset without a restaurant car would be suitable for the Metropolitan route.

    And I absolutely love traveling with ČD. I prefer the pendolinos or EuroCity trains over the railjets though. Or the old-school Rychlík trains with openable windows, they are so much fun! :D

    Yes - I loved Prague. It has a wonderful tradition of Ultra-Violate Light illuminated Pantomime Theatres. They were very cool. Also, the traditional Czech restaurant food is the epitome of comforting gravy covered meat stews with those big fluffy bread loaf dumplings - just big saucy plates of braises that a child would eat in some fantasy grandma's cottage kitchen (along with the obligatory stein of child's beer). Wow, what a menu - they have veal in a dark French wine sauce stewed with bacon, pearl onions, wild mushrooms and potato dumplings to sop it all up. Czech food is so rich and comforting on a rainy day. And it's the perfect thing to drip on a shirt.
    Ah - you got street-food.
    Cech Republic is so green. I was there in winter.

    What you get right - in my not so humble opinion. No 'wannabe a TV presenter' (who are all rubbish, can't talk to camera, and either have a monotone voice or one which wanders from bass to falsetto). Easy to read descriptions of both what we can see plus a bit of history. (Just to prove I read these, your 'cook hook' would prove interesting.) No excessive use of !!!!. (which is irritating on some other sites) Good camera work. All of your reports give a very fair appraisal of the journey taken, and includes accessibility, food/drink available, and some outstanding scenery. Great idea to add a glimpse of the attractions of your destination. What don't I like? Nothing ! I love it all - and you are the best. Got to go now to find a cook to hang from that hook !

    I made part of this trip in June 1982: from Prague to Brno, and return. Things were very different then. Praha hl. N. was nothing like as developed as the station you used, though the art-deco hall was there, of course. I arrived at the station in very good time, but alas my train was 8 hours late - this was one of those soviet block trains that travelled vast distances: from Berlin via Dresden to Prague, then on to Brno, Bratislava, Budapest and, I believe following the Danube to the Black Sea. I was about to return to my wandering round Prague when I saw that a previous train was so much delayed it was running about 30 mins ahead of my planned train. So I got to Brno more or less as planned.
    The ride was comfortable enough, and there were two classes of travel: ordinary (which I had to use) and what my tour guide called 'Representative Class'; this was restricted to people using it "as representatives of the Czechoslovakian people". Just as, in Prague, the garden of Prague castle was known as the 'Representative' garden of the president. I flew home on a Czechoslovak state airlines flight. As we boarded, the famous tennis player just in front of me, Hana Mandlikova, turned left into the Representative Class seats at the front, I turned right into the back of the plane. The seats there were not quite wooden benches.
    I did enjoy Brno: some nice churches and bars, famous, of course, for the experiments on peas carried out in the Jesuit monastery by Fr Gregor Mendel, which marked the beginning of genetics as an academic study.
    I love your channel. Thank you: I'm too old to go train riding now, but your vlogs keep me happy.

    Very useful and thorough review as always. The trains look excellent...with one exception from my point of view. Nearly all the 1st Class seating in unidirectional and I would rather travel in 2nd facing forward than at speed backwards. I would only choose that 1st Class option going from Vienna (as long as the trains are always formed in the same way). It's good to be forewarned about what could turn out to be a big disappointment.

    I enjoyed this video. I was on a tour several years ago and my wife and I travelled to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. The trip was done on a motor coach. The trip was OK until we went from Vienna to Prague. From Vienna to Prague, via Telc, we travelled by motor coach and the roads were very winding. I made a vow back then that if I ever went from Vienna to Prague I would travel by train. That is because the winding roads gave me a small sense of motion sickness. when we finally arrived in Prague it took me a few minutes to feel better. If I took the train I would not have had such problems. I look forward to visiting Vienna and Prague sometime in the future, and possibly visiting Bratislava as well. I would highly recommend the train because I do not suffer motion sickness problems on the train the way that I do on the road. I also want to experience rail travel in Europe, which I understand is very good.

    Please allow me to share a travel memory. I took a train from Vienna to Prague in the late 1990's. I don't even remember the Vienna train station but I clearly remember the Prague station (which was nothing like in your video) because I stopped at some kind of baggage check or ticket counter in a very old building, maybe I was buying a metro, bus or taxi ticket (can't remember) but there was only one, early 30's woman behind the counter and two rather sordid types sitting on an adjacent concrete wall next to her who seemed to be chewing the fat with her. It was an absolutely beautiful train ride from Vienna; I had a snack and two beers. The day was lovely. Crossing into the Czech Republic, the border guards came onto the train, looked me over and didn't even ask for my passport. SO, whatever business I was transacting at that counter, I walked away from and 10-15 seconds I hear, "Mister! Mister!' I turn around and I had left my wallet on top of the counter which held all my credit cards and quite a bit of cash. If they had stolen it, my trip would have been absolutely ruined. Thank God, for their honesty. And follow up: I totally fell in love with Prague, met a huge number of fascinating people but haven't had the opportunity to go back since then. I lived in Europe from 2018 - 2020, got booted due to Covid because I have U.S. citizenship but moving back in April. Looking forward to seeing that magical city again!

    Depending on when and which train you order tickets for, it can sometimes be really cheap to travel in Business class (which here oddly is above First class) with even better seats and service at your seat.
    I went Vienna-Prague-Vienna in Business class for just 85€ (make sure to check both the ÖBB and ČD sites for prices, as they sometimes differ!).

    I'm studying in Brno now. It is underrared city and lots of people are making joked about this city (they're saying it's just a village in the curve on the way from Prague to Vienna). If you visit it first time, it's better to be with someone, who knows the city. I haven't had a guide when I was there first time and I really thought it's just a bigger village.
    I've experienced second class in both railjets. Traveling comfort is the same but the Czech ones look better to me

    NIce video, but I don't bewleive that it would take another 3.5 h to reach Graz. Many years ago (long before Railjet) the travel time was around 2.40. As to he delay, was it filmed before or after some kind of tornado damaged the catenary between Brno and Břeclav? After that event the trains were hauled by diesel for some time.

    I don't know if anyone will see this, but I don't know where to go to ask for help/info. This is our first trip (and my only) to Europe. We bought a Eurorail pass. I used one day for us to travel from London to Paris. We have travel to an airport in England (London), but not any transportation from that airport to Paris. Using one of the days is supposed to be non-refundable. So any suggestions on what I can do? Any suggestions on how I can get to Paris with our used tickets? If we can't get to Paris from London we could possibly take a plane, but we already paid almost $1500 for our passes and we can't give them away. Any help would be very, very much appreciated. Thank you, Elizabeth

    Now that I've also watched Dylan's review of the Czech Pendolino (how many countries even operate these trains?! Sometimes it feels like every second trip report I watch starts in Wien Hbf or features some Pendolino 😂), I'm a bit curious about the categories (if there are any) of these trains.
    Are they in the same train category, or does CD* not differentiate between their long distance trains like DB does?
    *sorry, I don't have the character on my phone's keyboard 🤪

    • @marekhrdina9384
      @marekhrdina9384 3 года назад

      Raijlets operating between Prague and Wien/Graz are Eurocity train cathegory. No mandatory seating reservation.
      Pendolinos operating between Prague - Ostrava/Košice are Supercity train cathegory with mandatory reservation so in general they tend to be little bit more expensive, but depending on time and day you travel.
      Interestingly two pairs of Pendolinos continue from Prague via Pilsen to Cheb as Intercity cathegory without the need for reservation.
      New Railjet desing trains that will be put into operations next year between Prague and Cheb will be fast train and express cathegory.
      Basically the long distance cathegories do not mean much for CD. When traveling with fast train (R = rychlík), you are more likely do encounter old carriages and there will be no dining car/bistro in the set, but for other cathegories (Intercity, Eurocity, Supercity, Express) the difference is not so big, usually the difference is whether a whole dining car is present or just bistro and how often the train stops.

      Try a university course about the human senses, their advantages and their short comings. Your mix is not pedagogic either. Run the texts, or the video, not both.
      Other Y-tubers use speech and film. That highly enjoyable. The eyes absorbs the film and the ears takes in the audible message. Perfect for the human information handling "design".
