That was a good memory trip. At one point, I had the Monster 3D, Voodoo Banshee, and several Voodoo 3 3000s. I miss 3dfx so much....

I bought a Monster 3D Voodoo 2 in 1998. I remember firing up Quake II and was in awe of what I was seeing. It was a whole new world. I remember reading Billy "Wicked" Wilson on the website Voodoo Extreme everyday. I was 37 and on my way to my new career as a software engineer. I loved the '90's.

Wow! A trip down memory lane. I had a Voodoo 2 then a Banshee. Great cards at the time.

Yes I had 5000 shares of 3DFX that was suppose to be traded in 2 to 1 for Nvidia stock. Then in a change or heart they decided to screw the stockholders and not kill off 3Dfx, they took all the 3DFX property but left it as a shell company so they would not have to give the 3dfx stock holders anything. And then after then did that they sent out a welcome to nvidia to the 3dfx stock holders offering to buy their stock. Talk about insult to injury. I was not not to found of Nvidias tactics.

My first 3dfx card was a Voodoo Banshee. The first serious game I ever saw running under hardware acceleration (other than tech demos) was the Quake II demo. At that point, we all knew that dedicated graphics cards were here to stay and they weren't going to be another fad.
After that, it was "Unreal" for a few years until "Deus Ex" came out. Those ran amazingly well under Glide, better than Direct3D at the time. Then, I got a Voodoo 3 for a few more years. When Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" came out, it looked like Direct3D had matured enough to be a serious competitor to Glide. (Also, 3dfx was going out of business). So I decided to give ATI a try. From then on, it was Radeon 9800, ATI 1600, ATI 3850, etc. It wasn't until recently, that I came back to nVidia again.

If 3DFX was still a working manufacturer the Ray tracing would have came much earlier

oh! what times! I loved my Voodoo 3000 my first 3d card, so amazing! and the first game i ran on it was quake arena iirc, that experience was completely mind blowing at that time.
    I miss 3dfx.

Great video, thanks for your work. Recently I made a video about the voodoo pci and paired it with a 486. Fun times. I'll be watching your channel, it's right up my alley.

The exciting good old days, when 3d graphics was really breaking out, defining itself as a separate technology. And 3dfx was at the forefront. My first card was a voodoo3, basically a single voodoo2sli with excellent 2d. Supremely compatible with games. Half Life, AvP, Unreal, UT, Quake 1,2,3, Thief, System Shock 2, Descent....(remember Quake3 vs UT?).

I went the cheaper route. I got a 4mb card in 1997 but found out it wasn't 3dfx compatible. But by the time half life came out my card was on a par to the earlier 4mb 3dfx cards. the improvements in drivers and directx must have made the difference.

Cool but is it pci or agp? I got voodoo 5 5500 agp
Some coders are working on Linux drivers for it, phoronix said that
But since newer system have pcie how do we benefit from that ?
Maybe with some port converters agp to usb or pcie, tough quest

@@igrewold It is AGP, I never checked to see if they ever made an adapter. I still have 2-Core2 Duo 3.16Ghz Quads going strong with PCI slots (Rx460s in them now) Have a AGP board up in the attic!😁😁

Please normalize audio to 0db, or at least -3db. This is unwatchable with the bass heavy music and we have NO volume headroom, it's necessary to play at 100%! Thank you.

Lets not forget, Nvidia broke many 3dfx patents and dragged on the trials until 3dfx would go bancrupt.
One of the many things why I hate Nvidia....

I really enjoy the new video content, but you really need to work on the sound. Most of the videos are just painful to listen too. Way too much bass in the microphone. And the volume is non existant.
