  • Pointing dog training series RUclips continues! Today is an exciting day as it is the first day we filmed with the good cameras, and we think you'll enjoy the bit better quality footage. In todays episode of our pointing dog training series, we are putting Máquina on the lead for the first time and starting the process of heel training. Not only do we introduce this, but we also dive into some issues we are having with her recalling. Our RUclips pointing dog training series is just getting rolling, and we are excited to continue sharing it with you!
As you have heard us preach time and time again, a dog's a dog. With any dog, no matter the breed or end goal, the foundation is the most important and the part that must come first to accomplish the things we want down the road. This pointing dog training series will be focusing mainly on just that, the foundational dog training, until we she is ready to move on.
This series will be different from any other we’ve done for a variety of reasons. What won’t be different is that it will be real, raw and unedited. We share the good, bad and ugly knowing they they all are important in order to make progress with a pup.
Will she point? Eventually yes, I’m sure of that. Until then, we are enjoying every minute of her “being a puppy” and by that I mean an english setter puppy that makes good choices and is exposed to and held to the standard of behavior we expect. Discipline is not a negative word. Discipline earns freedom.
As always, thank you for your continued support, and we hope you enjoy our new pointing dog training series on RUclips... "Make the Machine".

I've got a 10 week old GSP. I'm following along! I think there's a great balance with the way you train your dogs. I've already caught myself having too high of expectations, and took a step back, and realized rather than trying to take the "necessary" steps, I should enjoy her more, and try to actually learn from her through her body language and time and reps. Place has been going great, crate training is excellent, and recall is spotty as well. There's just not a lot of people training pointers the way you train your dogs.
I agree dogs are dogs for the most part, but I have my concerns. I know what she'll soon need is the beginning of heel work, just like this. Recall is similar to Maquina, but I'm not worried, as I think the heel work will help with that and lots of other things. Hell, she's 10 weeks old, so I'm in no hurry to rush it. My concern is creating a bootlicker of a dog by focussing on heel work initially. Are you just hoping the bred instincts take over when it comes time for the field work? Genuinely wondering, because I've never had/trained a pointer.

In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn’t merely try to train him to be semi-human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog.
