I also find her perspective quite interesting. I think in this talk she should have acknowledged the incomparable opportunities that the US offers. There is a reason that Raya's family left their homeland to come to the US. That reason is that the US offers the greatest opportunity for success. And that what the American exceptionalism is all about; it is not that Americans think that we are superior; it is that we believe our country has one of the best governmental structures (constitutional republic) and that it offers the greatest opportunities for people of all ethnicities and backgrounds. That being said, the US should learn from successful models and practices developed by other countries. Many countries in Europe have much better primary education systems and the US criminal justice system is deeply flawed.
I completely agree with Raya's outlook. Having grown up in Ukraine and then moving to the United States when I was just 5 years old, I too have had a more open mindset with regards to these societal issues in America. I just wish more people (and this goes for anyone around the world)--have the opportunity to travel, to learn new things, meet new societies and cultures and not be afraid of it, but rather welcome them and embrace those who are different from ourselves. That's all.
USA is one of the best places you can grow up. I was fortunate enough to live and grow up here. That being said the US is not the beginning and end of happiness. The world is huge and filled with beautiful people, places, and experiences. Im currently moving away from the US. I've spent 33 years here. I served in the US Navy. Im just ready for something new.
for many things usa is great, for many not so. for all the things usa system is great europe is equaly great but the bad things of usa like no universal healthcare, endless capitalism without boundaries, high religion, epicly bad transportation system, gun laws and murder rates etc etc we dont hae in europe.
Really appreciated your chat at the end, Raya! It's a topic I'm very passionate about though not many people easily listen to. I'm glad you guys talk about it, opening people's eyes to the rest of the world. :)
'Where to Invade Next' is a great doc. I am so blessed to have grown up in the Australian way of life, obviously a very British based system. My mother is epileptic and couldn't work, so we were lucky that our free health system has helped look after her, and me with free education (until I got a scholarship from a private high school).I feel very safe here and although people do tend to grumble on election day, the last Federal election we had earlier this year I got the sense that every single person in line knew how important their vote was. We do have compulsory voting but the events in the world this year everyone realised that yes, your vote really does count.
aussie is like north europe but ith better weather and more outback lol. amazing systems and amazing lives, we need to count ourselves blessed to live there
Raya, as an American educator, thoughts on getting a good education in another country is a lesson that I would encourage other students from America to consider!
a very nice video. Normally see others doing the touring around but getting to actually get a glimps of "Hey it isn't all adventuring the unseen it is also about broadening our own home life." I saw what you had done with the Bus I can only imagine what you'd have done as a home.
Raya's talk in the end is so right. That makes me want to travel more. I want to be a travel vlogger!! Thank you for inspiration! Love your videos Louis. Lots of love from the Philippines 🇵🇭!! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the little piece by Raya at the end. Now more than ever, American's need to expand their horizons and see how other people live. Would love to see more of this slant on the channel.
If you're reading this Louis it is time for some adventures in the Annapurna circuit, Manang & Mustang, and Everest base camp(NEPAL). when you do please don't criticise the country when you are here, i see so many "Vloggers" badmouthing the whole country. don't understand how these people expect things in their western standardswhen they know its going to be a bumpy ride. Don't bring Raya, trust me she can't handle the physical aspect of it(n0 disrespect)>
While I agree that traveling is a great way to break out of ones "bubble", it's also difficult to travel when one does not have the monetary means to do so. Maybe that's a topic that can be talked about by you guys. 🙂
JP Definitely agree it would be great for them to chat about it with us. Though it doesn't take as much money as most people think, it would for sure help if they had some insight for those who aren't in their position :)
I'm not sure where you are from JP, but traveling is cheaper than living in the US. I can travel in Europe on $800 per month. That includes everything.
Agreed, but one must have an income source to be able to travel. Whether you live in the states or travel for a living, you still need money. Most people have to settle down somewhere and work. That costs money. How lovely it would be though to travel no non-stop. Also children play a huge role. Schooling is crucial, can't always be on the move.
Yessss, Raya! Thank you for speaking that truth at the end. I WISH I would've known about studying abroad or even taking a gap year while I was still in high school. Neither of them were ever mentioned and I didn't learn about them until after college when I moved to NYC. I had similar thoughts after watching MMoore's doc and I appreciate you sharing.
Really loved this video so much more relaxed and I could tell you both felt better! Bali looks so beautiful I love how you show us placers and cultures many of us could never visit. But like Raya was saying maybe show us about the education system and culture etc of each place you visit so we can learn with you? So many of us cannot travel it would be wonderful of you to show us more than just the tourist view of these incredible countries
These vlogs are so positive and uplifting. I love watching your journey through life, getting closer to your dreams each day. Youve inspired me, as much as many people would also agree, to exceed others expectations of me and challenge myself to strive for my dreams. Thank you for being such a positive part of life.
Great to hear your perspective Raya! I totally agree with you and I really think most of us live in a very small bubble of what we think and are told is "the best way". When we open our eyes to the world around us there are so many possibilities and opportunities to learn and grow. Thank you :)
You guys should watch the 13th, it's a documentary on Netflix about the shift of racial inequality over the years in America! It's so incredible and eye opening!
I agree with Raya. I live in the SouthEastern part of the U.S. They cling to this idea that everything "Merica" does is right. We're missing out on so many opportunities to improve our country for the better.
Honestly Louis doesn't live the adventure anymore, he just goes to the places everyone goes to. I'm waiting for him to hit up St. Croix, Belice, Dominican Republic, Haiti, the French Guyana, Jamaica, places that vloggers don't go to, that's living the adventure. Louis is just like any other basic vlogger out there, such a shame.
Camila Bidó Not enough, we want him to go to Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Somalia, Uganda, Morroco, Madagascar this year..Yes this year. Such a shame.
so going to bali and enjoying amazing nature and culture isnt living the adventure anymore? lol. you have some skewed standards. let people enjoy their cake, it doesnt have to be something out of this world to be called a good vlog.
Louie, please keep doing more incredible stuff like this. As a fellow traveler, I love watching your travels around the globe. You have an incredible platform to share ideas and I hope you continue to use it to make this world a better place. I recently watched "Zero Days", an incredible documentary (if not disturbing), about what happened in Iran with their nuclear program. Out of curiosity, how is the internet in Bali? It's a place on my list to travel to(where isn't?), but I'm internet dependent as I work on Skype. Keep up the good work!
I agree with Raya as well. We live in America and I'm the only person I know that has traveled and lived in Asia & Costa Rica. Most people still have that mindset that another country couldn't possibly be as great as the USA. Our only problem is finding a job in senior cyber security which HAS to be an American based company in another country. Otherwise it can effect our clearance. So if anyone knows of one in Bali, PLEASE give me a shout! You guys are soooooo fortunate to live there!
shipping containers from Bali are super cheap. You can get one for around $3000 filled with furniture. You'd certainly also be helping the community if you did buy local from them, at cheaper prices than you'd be quoted in your own countries. Its not that expensive to buy and ship from them
The U.S. ranks 1st in prisoners, 23rd in gender equality, 14th in education, 19th in national satisfaction,44th in health care efficiency, 2nd in ignorance (loosing to Italy surprisingly enough), 66th in religious diversity,3rd in global competitiveness, 2nd for approval of drone strikes. Oh wait, they do come 1st in something... being arrogant.
Stu - Where do you live, and how does your homeland rank on various social, political and economic measures? Do you live in relative peace with over 325 million people of widely varying racial and ethnic backgrounds? Just sayin', don't be too dismissive of the most diverse and successful democratic republic in history. Perfect? No, of course not.
I really enjoyed listening to what Riyha said(sorry if that isn't how u spell it) but I felt she had a really well said perspective and it really made me think about things a bit more deeply -btw I'm from Aus not USA but yeah. Both of u have really inspired me to live life and just do what makes u happy and see the world differently so thank you so much for doing that it has made me feel really happy and excited for life!
I wouldn't call it a documentary but I recently saw this movie called Moonlight. And it was an excellent coming of age or really coming of consciousness film. What is important is that America is made up of states, and each state has its own by laws, dialects of English, and ideas about what diversity is. There's no blueprint and everyone has a different perspective on whether or not an education is pivotal in America due to the fact that we are an entrepreneurial based society. What you actual gain from academia depends upon how much you built yourself up beforehand venturing into that field. For some first generation Americans, their parents citizenship status dictates a free education fully funded by Pell Grants.
I totally agree with you guys!! I'm from New Zealand, grew up there and now live here in California married to an American.. It is a lot different for sure and I see how the Americans I have come across that don't travel outside their cities, state or country in general?! I just luv it on how Americans think they know it all and great they are.. I just keep my mouth shut and laugh inside 😂... education is the same but is a lot cheaper back home. Americans need to live outside their country for 6 months to a year and experience another country/culture to really understand it's not greener here in the US.. its green everywhere guys.. stop listening to stories and explore for yourself. Read read or go out and experience it and taste that good life.. My wife and I will eventually move back to New Zealand or Australia where my parents live..
Really loved hearing Raya's thoughts on America. Couldn't agree more about how important seeing how others live in other places is to improve your life. Would like to hear what she has to say about Trump!
This video really made me want to watch this documentary guys! :) Will definitely watch it thanks! And you are right, using your platform to make a difference is what the world needs right now! Would love it if you guys made some videos about veganism and maybe educate others about the benefits of it for our environment, the animals and our health! :) A really good documentary to watch is called Food Choices, its on youtube, and Black Fish its about orca whales... xxxx
Raya, I'm interested to know how Uni in the UK was cheaper for you? Because for international students the price sums up to about 30k a year not including living expenses (obviously this depends on where you go). I am currently extremely frustrated by the way the UK uni system works because I am a UK citizen and I only moved away from the UK when I was nine. Now that I want to go back and study there I am not considered a home student and therefore have to pay the extortionate International Student fees because I'm not a resident even though I have a British passport and birth certificate. If you could tell me about your experience it might really help me figure out how I'm going to afford 6 years in med school in the UK...
She is I believe a Bulgarian citizen so with the EU it might not count as international and she prob went to school before the tuition hikes that is what i am guessing. It is only a guess though
Lasic eye surgery- this vlog was wonderful mate (especially bamboo room)...Louie can u pls make a short video on lasic surgery that you had year ago with ur precious suggestions for ppl (including me), who want to go for the surgery mate...love ur work, bliss u...
I think he may have a travel visa, which can be used up to 3 months at a time. Like he can stay for 3 months before he has to go back to the UK and have it renewed.
Louis and raya, there's a documentary on Netflix about certain issues in Indonesia called The Act of Killing, it's really heavy stuff, very real and surreal at the same time.
Louis, I think you'd love the documentary E-Motion, it's a very deep, though provoking film that I think you and Raya would gain a lot from :-) Hope this helps
I don't know if you've heard of the movie 'Tomorrow'? Also a very inspiring and informative documentary that you need to check out! After what you told in your reviews about 'where to invade next' i think you would like 'tomorrow' as well!
I went to college in the US and my loans totaled $28,000. So saying $200,000 for loans is a bit of a stretch. You need to find a place where you can afford. Raya, what was the cost of University for four years in London?
A good documentary to watch is The Price of Sugar. 😊 I'm Canadian and we've always seen the USA as being the center of the world. We we're educated to study anywhere we wanted after high school unless if you we're going for something more specific like Nursing, Assistant Vet to stay in Canada if your choosing to base your carreer in Canada. I could of had the option to study in Europe but as a Canadian foreigner tuitions are more I was opting for the option of college and I found they only had more university options. Did you know the education system is different in every province in Canada, I currently live in Ontario which education is very pricey but if I would of chose to study in Québec they would of charged me as an foreigner student isn't crazy. I am in debts of student loans but they did make a new law if you make less theb 25 000$ you do not have to pay it back till you make over that amount of money. I wish definitely we would have better options in high school to help search for a possibility to study abroad. I wanted to do it but a certain program wasn't covered by the student loans I was gutted. Anyways in other words a lot of countries think America is the best but some think its Canada and some think its the UK or France. I think myself in Canada we do have a great system of free health care which I think we are blessed in many ways. I will always think this way but Canada is slightly a better place to live then America. In Europe I do feel there are countries that are definitely better living there then any other places in the world. I feel like I would like to live abroad one day to see a different aspect of the world. In Canada you can see and feel the difference between Ontario and Québec the education system is different which I still rather the education system in Ontario and the Healthcare. I know there's so much more out there to learn and know to grow into a better person. I would rather see different perspectives of the world then not knowing any. Thanks for sharing your view Raya! ❤
'Our' home, there it is...my heart has melted.
I love Raya's perspective on things.
Ian Davies Your brain definitely disengaged when you wrote the comment regarding her appearance.
I also find her perspective quite interesting.

Raya, that was excellent. I completely agree with you; We all need to make an effort to pull ourselves out of that bubble.
read books, mingle with people, travel. all easy solutions.

I have the same perspective as her but I'm from New Zealand, I think maybe it is just with this topic haha.
I completely agree

I can tell that you and Raya are really suited for each other. So happy for you guys!!!
So glad that Raya is back to her normal happy lf again :-).. Excellent persepective on the documentary Raya, I'm going to check it out.
Love the little piece by Raya at the end. Now more than ever, American's need to expand their horizons and see how other people live. Would love to see more of this slant on the channel.
loved the Raya's section at the end there! Not enough raya/introspection in yer blogs Louis! Love them anyways tho! Send my love to you both and Bali!

Yeah, he should!

I loved Raya's comments at the end. I totally agree!
Such an inspirational talk at the end of this vlog by Raya. Nice👌🏻
Raya really wise words at the end of the vlog! best to you both
Yessss, Raya!
Omg I stayed at this exact same villa and vlogged a tour too!! Haha YESS the bamboo room is the absolute best! Say hi to Putu ❤️
Omg this is unbelevable 😍
Hah, that's amazing

Having a homebase is a great idea to avoid getting burned out! Love the videos with Raya, she's a huge inspiration for me :)
Raiya is amazing!!! You are unbelievably lucky Louie
Really interesting segment from Raya there! Awesome!
I love what Raya had to say and I wish I had a chance to meet the two of you, you inspire me so much! Thank you for that!
You guys should watch the 13th, it's a documentary on Netflix about the shift of racial inequality over the years in America! It's so incredible and eye opening!
Of all the gorgeous places on earth you could choose to live in, why would you settle in LA?
Angelique Louise RUclips probably
Louis you just made me so so so super homesick now .... Bali is my hometown!!!!
I agree with Raya. I live in the SouthEastern part of the U.S. They cling to this idea that everything "Merica" does is right. We're missing out on so many opportunities to improve our country for the better.
Incredible insightful vlog guys, thank you! It's great to see more thoughtful and meaningful conversation in addition to just having fun travelling
being American and living outside of the US for 13 years now i totally agree with you Raya!

Alpha Darko Charlie we disagree on that, but I'm not saying those countries in specific I was just using them as examples.

I was being sarcastic to the OP :) but yes, I agree with you Somali is not really safe.
I agree with her about travels and school
I always look forward to watching Louis's and Raya's vlogs!
You're a huge inspiration that helped me start my own channel.
Sorry for spelling your name wrong! Louis :)
Really enjoyed this vlog and Raya's comments on Michael Moore's documentary, good talk guys : )

What raya said at the end. YES YES YES. PREACH RAYA PREACH! You two should sit down and talk about such things on a video someday :)
you guys are amazing people and I liked both of your perspectives :) you guys also seem to make an awesome couple. keep it up! I love the videos!
What a beautiful place - Bali

"The True Cost" is the best documentary I've seen. It's about the fashion industry and it's consequences. "The White Helmets" is also good.
Raya is so awesome and adorable!
She's a stunner, very pleasing on the eye 😍😍😍😍😍
Louis your the best blogger ever keep doing what your doing!!!😉
An awesome vlog as usual ;) Btw, Ubud looks chill and peace!
"Demain" by Cyril Dion and Melanie Laurent. You should see this French documentary :)

It all looks soo beautiful!
Thks for ur coming at my country, nice video
Really loved hearing Raya's thoughts on America. Couldn't agree more about how important seeing how others live in other places is to improve your life. Would like to hear what she has to say about Trump!
Adam Curtis: Bitter lake and hypernormalisation, you can find them on BBC iPlayer !!!!
Always question! Great advice from Raya.

If you could tell me about your experience it might really help me figure out how I'm going to afford 6 years in med school in the UK...
She is I believe a Bulgarian citizen so with the EU it might not count as international and she prob went to school before the tuition hikes that is what i am guessing. It is only a guess though
Caroline Farrow ya that actually makes sense because Bulgaria is part of the eu

I went in march I loved it soooo much 100% my favourite place In the world!! X
Love raya!!
It wasn't free or cheep. Someone else just paid for it.
Does Louis have a visa to stay in america? Cause I dont see how it would work out if he didnt
I think he may have a travel visa, which can be used up to 3 months at a time. Like he can stay for 3 months before he has to go back to the UK and have it renewed.
as long as he isn't using public funds, he could probably get a visa to stay as a self employed person
It's good - good for peoples minds and mindset to listen to you guys and for my mind as well. :) Greetings from Germany.
Man I want to see you getting to somewhere like rural China, Tibet, Himalayas, rural India! You would love it

Louis and raya, there's a documentary on Netflix about certain issues in Indonesia called The Act of Killing, it's really heavy stuff, very real and surreal at the same time.
Very informative video. Taught me a lot , thanks.

For international students it's normally more than that.
