Carson, known as the 6th Gen Farmer, is a dedicated agricultural professional embarking on an independent farming journey after branching out from his family’s multi-generational operation. While not a "new" or "beginning" farmer in the traditional sense, Carson is deeply committed to sharing the challenges and triumphs of building a farm from the ground up. His passion lies in discussing all things farming, including equipment, technology, and the evolving landscape of modern agriculture.
Anytime you buy anything used, it’s always a good idea to have an independent guy inspect and recommend service or repairs. Of course, I learned this the hard way like everyone. Glad to say, I’ve only been burned once!
I was laughing during the time lapse where that cat just sat down in the middle of the garage forcing everyone to work around it XD
Yeah... The issue is that a mould to make those tracks is probably $1-2M USD or more in CNC machining alone. They fucked it up, it happens, but they should have scrapped it.
That must be a massive Relief
Good dealers that fight with the manufaktuer make the differenz
Im sure the channel helped a littel bit
I’m sure then channel helps. Not gonna deny that. However, I do believe NTS would’ve fought for any of their customers. They have their heads screwed on right.
Glad everything is workN out. The new tracks make it look beefy.
Them tractors look so friggin neat. I've always thought them things were just so cool. The way they look is pretty sweet looking short stubby strong ya got yourself a pretty awesome bit of kit.
Just put a new set of off brand Camso on our 8370RT this year. Does a lot of road work in Texas summer and runs over 15,000ac each year. Apart from slight wear to the back side of the lug from road camber, they still look new. $11k for the set delivered.
You are not the only one that hates Firestone!! In 1974 I bought a new Oldsmobile Cutlass, it came with 5 Firestone tires on it. Within 6 months all had to be replaced and Firestone would not stand behind there garbage, The Dealer replaced 2 of them and the other 3 I had to buy elsewhere. I bought Goodyear and 2 of those tires were still on the car when I got another car after 384,000 miles, still with decent tread
I love how your cat just chills, he stole the show for me, there was a point that he was just there grooming his bum and yall were flying around the shop lol 😂
Glad to see it all working now. I like the new music in your timelapse montage. I saw a Tina appearance?!
❤❤❤Good job new day new adventure 👍🇦🇺👍🇦🇺👍🇦🇺
Wow! Goodyear for sure
Their main focus is to supply the rainbow flag community, you will be regarded as a second or third level client.
Glad you was able to get it all fixed properly.Hoping it serves you well when its time to be in the fields.
When explaining the issue with Firestone treads, we can sure hear the stress in your voice and how upset this must have made you. So many deep breathes you are taking too, frustration. Sadly, more Firestone treads, so we shall see. Sixteen-thousand dollars! Wow, there goes that vacation to Hawaii again this year!
Thanks for the comment! I was for sure stressed but everything worked out very well! yeah $16k is a lot of money, and the sad part is that I got a really good deal. if your going to buy at retail price it would probably be closer to $25k.
Very nice, Carson! I'm happy to see 'progress'. Interesting facts surrounding the tracks. Glad to see things are working out, and that you got to the bottom of the issue, it seems! Thank you!
The Cat feels better with new shoes. 😂
Haven’t made it to the end, but labor aside, they made lemons in to lemonade for you.
@@LtColDaddy71 they absolutely did. Couldn’t be happuer
Never had good luck with Firestone tires. There was a set on my 79 Subaru that were only a few years old when I bought it, and they only lasted about 20,000 miles. Put a set of cheap Chinese tires on (they were the only 13 inch tires the shop had) and they lasted 60,000 miles. Then went through a few more foreign made sets and all lasted at least double what the Firestones did. The current set are Achilles Desert Hawk XMTs made in Indonesia (I wanted mud tires and those were the only 13 inch mud tires available at the time) and those have 50,000 miles on them and still don't need to be replaced yet. I drive that car around 50,000 miles a year so it's usually a set of tires a year. But those Firestones lasted less than half that. I think the US made tires are crap because of the recycled rubber content. A tire made in India, Mexico, or Indonesia, by a company from there, probably doesn't have a lot of recycled rubber content or any at all. In this case it wasn't even an issue of bad quality rubber, but just incorrect manufacturing, and they still sold them that way, how ridiculous!
I am with you about Firestone. Goodyear is usually how I roll. Although my last truck came with Michelins and I got 80 K out of them so I replaced them with another set.
Michelin is spendy but worth it in my opinion!
From my experiences with few different tire brands, Goodyear or Michelin I only shop for.
good for a years… LOL.
of all the machinery ive bought in my life the ih560 diesel was a winner, dealer showed me rows & rows of ih560's ih706 & ih806 i just needed something to grind feed/rake hay the ugliest rusty bald tires recent trade in ih560 in the back row next to parted out tractors somehow to got my attention and it paid off just needed tires dealership knew nothing about it TA was strong as a bull forever
We have Firestone class 4 tracks on our mt 845A been on there about 3-4 years and holding up good
I think the MT800 tracks were fine, just the mt700 and maybe 8000t tracks that are affected. The issues we had with our tracks on the 8360rt back on the day was back when firestone just started making tracks and they were just not good. I hope they are better now.
The pencil necks at Firestone probably saved 50 dollars per track making them shorter, but cost the farmer thousands in replacement and down time :(
Glad you got it resolved, dare I say the defective Tracks were not made in the U.S.A.?
Growing up around farms, tractors have always been something I really enjoy learning more about - thanks for taking us on this journey with you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wild how different they are. 10:45 so sure the salesman failed but I think he should use this video the next time someone doesn't want to spend that extra for the 6.
It wasn’t the salesman fault, but I bet they will not be selling another set those particular tracks
That's cat for you
Looks good, 🎉 I was gonna suggest fuel filters but you got it.
I have a Cat and the sign that my fuel filters are bad is when pulling machinery in the field, the engine starts to miss a bit and fuel filters were the cure everytime. Once a year I just change them regardless of hours used....
Holy cow. Back in 06 I put a new undercarriage on my D6 for around the same price as those rubber ones.
@@kdw75 the sad part is that I got a great deal on them too…
Seems, I think, back quite a few years ago, a track manufacturer used the same mold to fit 2 different color track tractors. Might be wrong. Throw some talc in on them fresh , sticky rubber tracks!
Someone else said that it could be they were trying to use the same mold for JD 8000t and challenger MT700’s. Which I guess I could see
I had the same issue only with my sister van wheel bearing 6 different trips back and forth to advance auto parts to have the same problem the splines were not cut right because the splines on the cv axle had bigger splines so I got a full refund and went to Napa auto parts and got the correct one that fit needless to say I was pissed at advanced auto parts and never went back there for anything else
7:41 Can you explain that why you loosen those bolts in a staggered pattern ?
As mentioned last video, they aren't "defective" they are tracks for a Deere 8000T. Guessing Firestone thought they could make one mold to fit both MT700s and 8000Ts.
Well shoot. Maybe I should’ve kept them and installed them on the 8410t!
You are so wonderful, I hope I can work with you.❤
good deal
So did you replace the tracks for nothing (because the fuel filter was causing the engine to bog down)?
no, Engine issue or not I still could not align the tracks which could lead to catastrophic failure very quickly. Glad I did what I did
Could the bogging be the HEAVY DUTY aspect of the tracks compared to old worn flexible tracks?
Fireston have been in trouble before. Seems like they are used to make bad product and not tell about it. Like the SUV tires scandal.
How many man hours, at what shop rate, to change the second set of tracks? Class 6, looks very stiff. Bet your fuel consumption will increase, but should last forever. When doing an alinement, only make one change at a time. Good luck!
To be honest, I do not know and don't really know if I want to! I am sure its extremely expensive.
But will it fit correctly!!!!!
Oh boy. You wouldn't catch me uninstalling the returning tracks or installing the new ones. If you're going to knowingly sell me the wrong product, you'll be paying for my lost time.
That sucks you had to pay extra to get different tracks, but at least it all got sorted out.
It all ended up in my favor. These are much nicer tracks. Would be paying well over 18k for the tracks alone if buying outright.
I paid 16,600 with all new bogies
@@6thGenFarmer You did very good on the deal for twice the quality of track and bogies to boot! When I buy tracks, I make a deal that entails that I will buy if they install them---this usually works for them if in the dead of winter when they are not that busy. They have a small lift crane on their service truck which works out well. That way, there is no question that they have to make it right before payment is made and they cannot make a claim that you sliced a track when installing. Yes, after they leave, it is up to me to get them lined up on my own.
They took care of you, but it sure was a lot of extra stress and work that you didn't need. Next time go with Camso. Less money, better track, less headaches.
always change the oil in smaller bogie wheels every year and put in new seals.
Will be doing that this winter!
Paint your exhaust with heat paint and polish your paint would make it look awesome....
It is amazing how painting an exhaust will improve the looks of a tractor.
Do you have good results with the track tractors would you recommend track
My family has been all track tractors now for many years and we love them, but they are not for everybody
welcome to america. it'll take you 4 years of court to sue em.
Have you ever looked into relugging your old tracks?
@@seth1704 I have. Most track re-lugging places have strict age and wear requirements they we do not meet. If I had a set of tracks that met the requirements I would
I'm glad (or sad even) i'm not the only one that has had bad luck and issues with Firestone... Our main tire guy has lots of stories on the issues with firestones too, he even recommends customers to stay away from them if they can.
Gonna be a pro at changing tracks at this rate lol. Kinda sucks at this day and age a Firestrone rep and crew didn't come out and help swap them for free... shows they don't stand behind their products when they deliberately keep those tracks on the shelf; you probably know for sure there are customers out there that probably got SCREWED.
@@farmingnodak Michelin (who also owns camso) I think is the best rubber on the market. Honestly changing the tracks wasn’t that big of a deal as the new ones went on so easy. They already gave me a great deal on the new tracks so I can’t complain too much.
Yeah but it wasn't Firestone that sold them to you it was that "great guy" dealer.
The salesman had no idea they were like that. When I called and sent them pictures they worked very hard to treat me right and they did. Will recommend NTS to anybody
Firestone should have never been so lazy and incompetent to let something like that happen I remember when their tires was separating in the 90’s just junk
It’s great when a sour deal comes out a great deal. Glad NTS went to bat for you and in the end, you seemingly won big time!
Where Firestone most likely went wrong is they didn’t factor in the shrinkage when cutting the mold. All plastics/rubber shrinks after molding. You have to know what the shrinkage rate is for any given material and expand the mold by that amount. I’m a plastics process and tooling engineer for 38 years and running specializing in automotive applications. Seen these types of problems many times. You’d be shocked how many parts go into cars, trucks, AG equipment out of spec.
what stuff did the technician point out?
Anytime someone sells something they need, there is a reason. You can’t afford to buy cheap products.
So tldr they sold you tracks that were to short/small.
I happen to know how Quality control works at Michelin.
This would get a plant shut down.
A couple of these making it out would role heads.
how much hours will you think you can get out on those tracks? last spring i paid almost $2,200 on my 37''s (5 sets) for my truck. $15k+ is insane!! hope they last you long time dude. can't believe they kept selling defective tracks just to make you fork out another few bucks to get the right one.
@@NevAdv it all depends on how much road time the tracks get. My dads 8410t has the original tracks on it at 7000 hours but they are bald, whereas the 8345rt got new tracks put on it around 2,200 hours because it did a lot of roading by the previous owner.
@@6thGenFarmer I hope its a long time, paying the price of a car for tracks is just insane. I was looking not that long ago at getting into farming for a career and the costs are just mind boggling.
Knowingly putting out a faulty product should be a crime.
Did the technician give you a cheat to write on the track frame for the next time you need to align the tracks. Would be a good cheat to help other Challenger and possibly Fendt owners. Could really bump up your views on a vid. Just add a catchy title and let the high views roll.
How much would the brand new tracks would of cost if you had bought them instead of the used tracks???
I think the tracks would’ve been around $20k give or take without the bogies. Closer to $25 with the bogies. I’m shooting from the hip a bit but I got a very good deal.
bought a brand new set of 13.6 28 firestones ($2000) for my ford 8n they were so out of round that it would throw me from the seat took em off a year later after they dryrotted and went with a set of USED bkts i had firestones BRAND new ($1000) on a pickup truck that broke the steel belts on 3 of the tires within 500 miles im never buying ANYthing firestone ever again
Why did you take so much stuff off I only took the front idler off
The book says to take the rear idler off, plus my front idlers have 4 weights on per side, and the bogies are quick and easy to take off and make the whole process easier. I probably didn’t need to take it all off, but I don’t think it added to the overall time.
Looks like to me they should have gone all the way to the front of the machine it would look better and definitely pull better.
What kind of camera you film with?
GoPro hero 9 mostly
@ great quality! I can never make my hero 10 look that crisp.
@ I am filming, editing, and uploading at 4k 30fps. Honestly, I think this is my last GoPro. Either DJI or insta360 ace pro 2 next. But this GoPro has a lot of life left in it
@ thanks for the input much appreciated. I was thinking the same going DJI myself. talking to other people they seem too really like it compared to GoPro.
According to my source, AGCO allows a maximum circumference length deviation from the Camso tracks of +/- 1.2" for aftermarket tracks. The class 6 Bridgestones are about 1.0" undersize, whereas the class 4 tracks are a whopping 3.6" undersize. Just so you know, Bridgestone is not the only company offering tracks for Challenger tractors that are outside of the length tolerance.
I also wanted to mention that your track tensioner pressures shown on the monitor seem a little bit low. This could simply be due to the tensioners being oil charged in a warm environment and the pressure readings are shown when it's colder outside. There's also a possibility that the full system pressure was not held long enough before closing off the fill valve/screw. I recall that the factory recommends holding the pressure for 2 minutes before closing the valve so that enough oil enters into the bottom of the accumulator.
By the way, thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed seeing someone swapping out tracks in a competent manner.
its all in the name "Firestone" crap tires we had a set of triples on out 535 half tread left they started cracking and leaking junk tires
And how old were they? And how many hours?
@Failure_Is_An_Option it doesn't really matter they're crap tires look it up they do it at random may never happen might happen after 4 years
You should do Michelin
If they were used, then someone was able to use them.
So the guide lugs were pretty beat up and the traction lugs on the outside are very good. So I am thinking that the previous owner was probably not able to align them either. Some people have also mentioned that they also tried to use the same mold between MT700 tractors and 8000t tractors. So maybe it was on a 8000t earlier. But here is why I think it is ok that I said what I said. If you look up the tracks, it is listed as a track for a mt700. They did not fit my mt700, not even close. Yet, somehow the same manufactures more expensive tracks fit perfect. Therefore a manufacturing issue is present, whether it was intentional or not.
I’m Sorry but never buy Firestone! I had a Ford Truck that I lost a Fender from a Blowout!
If you sell a Great product, why do you need a Great Warranty?
These buisnesses are happy to take your money, but getting them to honor a warranty is near impossible; it's disgusting.
School is expensive.
Stupid rubber crap tracks and 15k nah screw that
American quality...
🙃
Nah, just Firestone quality. Michelin tires are made in the United States and they are phenomenal. They are some of the longest lasting tires we’ve bought.
@@UltraMagaFan2
Imagine acting like Michelin is an American company and like all the tyres are made in the US...
But it's a minority of the employment of Mchelin... Michelin is a French company, with French style management, long term financial goals, and not short term...
The R&D is not American.
So yeah... Not really American.
@@fabr5747
Michelin has been manufacturing tires in the United States since 1975. For the past 49 years. 50% of their global manufacturing is done here. They have 21 tire manufacturing plants scattered across this country and employ around 24,000 American workers. They actually employ more Americans than the French. And for me, being an American, it’s a 100% domestically made product. They don’t even import tires for the American market anymore. They only sell tires made in Europe to the Europeans.
So long story short, I’m not acting like anything. Their tires are manufactured in the United States by American workers and sold to other Americans making it an American company. It’s not that fucking hard to understand.
🫵🤡
@@fabr5747
Around 50% of Michelin’s manufacturing is based in the United States and done by American workers. They currently manufacture and export more tires in/from the United States than they ever did from France.
They started manufacturing tires in America in 1975. Since then they have opened 21 plants in this country, which is 7 more than they have in France. And they employ around 24,000 American workers, which is around 10,000 more Americans than the French.
You’ve said nothing to prove me wrong.
And let’s pretend that I was wrong. Firestone is NOT the only American tire manufacturer. There’s also Bridgestone and Good Year just to name a couple. It’s extremely obvious you’re biased.
they dont make them china does
$15 grand for used tracks??? Jeez....
And 12 brand new bogies
@6thGenFarmer ah, got it.
lol
They up-sold you.
They saw you coming and conspired to get more money off you.
Cause you’re obviously spoiled
Too clean for a real farmer.
And when you said that you didn’t remember what happened to the set you were mad that cracked???
Only spoiled can forget what happened to a $16,000
Investment.
This is why Deere and other manufacturers don't want farmers working on their own shit as there was nothing wrong with either set of tracks.
I would consider not being able to align tracks a pretty major problem. Another commentator looked up the tolerance on the tractor and the size of the tracks and it was well out of tolerance
You’d be wrong to assume this doesn’t happen with dealers.
@thepubliceye This is getting really old. You clowns that watch other clowns... that have ZERO agriculture exposure and even less agriculture knowledge. At NO point was ANYBODY restricted or barred from working on their own equipment.
@@Failure_Is_An_Optionthat’s really not correct. There is no legal option on quite a few things, mostly related to emissions repairs and software. I will agree with you at some level, that it does not appear that Deere is trying to keep a guy from replacing his own tracks. Firestone screwed up here.
Sue firestone get a fat payday
selling the wrong product should be illegal. considering how expensive they are
It’s very frustrating I agree. I don’t think it is worth my time to sue them though
@@6thGenFarmer the new tracks looks killer man
You got what you paid for...
Nobody cares 🤣
It's Firestone are you really surprised?? Firestone's crap quality is a trademark of theirs, hell even most of the Chin ha stuff is better quality than Firestone. Firestone stuff was crap in the 70's in the 80 the 90's the 00's the 10's and not surprised to see it continuing for the 20's.
