      Hey, thanks for the comment.
      If you don't use the PPPoE pass through on the Asus router, the asus router will not get an external Ip address, it will get an ip address from dhcp on Bell model (something in the range of 192.168.2.x).
      If you are not planning to use the DDNS on the Asus router or something like Aicloud, then it wouldn't matter and you can use auto on the asus.
      You can do some research regarding double NAT with Bell modem.
      With DDNS you will be able to access your local servers with ports forwarded on the Asus router externally with the free asus domain name; if this is too much information, disregard it 😊.

    Question for you, what is the bell username and password do i need , do you mean my bell online account or something has to be provided by bell?

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  9 месяцев назад

      Hey, no the username and password you use to login into your Bell account is different from your b1 username and password. The one you use to login to bell account, for example to see your bill is usually your email address and preferred password. The one you use for pppoe username, start with b1. You can call bell to get the username and password or you can simply get the username from your account and simply change the password for the b1 username. If you are interested I can show you how to do it.

      Hello, yes I still have the router in my basement. It is probably one of the best routers that I owned. The wifi on both 2.4 and 5g are strong the range is crazy good! I live in a 2 story mid size house, and the signal strength from the basement to the top floor is 4/5 bars. And yes you can customize the rgb as you like rainbow/solid color or even completely turn it off from your asus router webpage.

    So the asus router ethernet output won't put out more then 1gb? I'll have to get that network switch to achieve 1.5gb? Or is it used for more then 4 ethernet ports to connect?

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  4 месяца назад

      Correct, may I ask your ISP and the speed of your internet. Also how many devices are you planning to have 2.5gb connectivity? If you plan to have only 1 device then the ASUS GT-AX6000 has one 2.5gb WAN and one 2.5gb LAN and you are good. But if you have multiple devices with 2.5gb LANs then you need to buy a managed or unmanaged 2.5gb switch. Does this make sense?

      Hey, yes when I had 500gbps from bell I used my old asus router to bypass the bell modem, do you have hh3000 or hh4000? The process should be the same but for some reason with hh3000 it was easier to bypass it.

      @@helsan74 oh sorry didn't pay close attention, you have 2 options as there is no actual bridge mode on the Bell hh4000, one is the PPPOE passthrough and the other one is DMZ and advanced dmz. In DMZ you add the MAC address of your asus router on the Bell dmz page. In both options you get double NAT and the public ip changes on the asus router frequently. But you still should be able to access your public ip. I am using a dynamic dns client to take care of that.

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  11 месяцев назад

      @@helsan74 I have tried both, and the only thing I realized is that with PPPOE my connection is more stable. Some people have issues with not getting full speed with PPPOE method on older asus routers but with GT-AX6000 I did not see this speed issue. There is an excellent article from a guy who did experiments with both DMZ and PPPOE, but he had a different asus router which was causing him slow upload speed with PPPOE, so he went the DMZ way and is confirming that it works for him.
      itnerd.blog/2022/08/16/revisiting-how-to-bypass-bells-hh400-hardware-with-your-own-router/?amp=1
      What I also realize is that with both PPPOE and DMZ, whenever I update my asus router's firmware my connection becomes unstable, meaning I have to restart both Asus and bell router to establish internet connection again. Have you ever experienced that issue with DMZ?
      Thanks.

    @11:00 - is there any actual setting that needs to be configured in order to enable "PPPoE Passthrough", or is "PPPoE Passthrough" enabled by default? Your description seems to indicate that "PPPoE Passthrough" is enabled by default as long as no DMZ setting is set - is that correct? If not can you elaborate on how the "PPPoE Passthrough" needs to be configured?

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, on the Bell modem (HH4K) you don't need to do anything as long as you follow the settings I recommended @ 9:36. However if you go to 14:17 there is a setting on the ASUS router you need to change to enable the PPPoE under WAN->WAN Connection Type->change it to PPPoE.
      Keep in mind you would need your b1 Username and password from Bell. Do you know how to get the b1 username and password?
      With this setting you will get double NAT anyways (one on Bell Modem and one on ASUS Router) but you can defiantly access your public IP that the ASUS modem acquires with free DDNS service.

I'm looking at a way to eventually swap the VDSL modem in bridge mode with the HH4K in "PPPoE Passthrough" mode so want to learn how that "PPPoE Passthrough" is configured - definitely looks like it is enabled by default on the HH4K...

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  Год назад +2

      Hey, I think the latency on the Download and Upload would be the same. If you goto minute 13:12 you can see that the DL/UP latency without the router (speed test directly from my ISP modem) is around 2ms. Now if you go to minute 15:46 you can see that the latency (speed test on the ASUS router) is around 1.71ms. So if not better, the latency should be the same as your ISP latency. In my case I think since I am bypassing the ISP Modem, My latency is actually a bit lower so you should expect the same. Any latency lower that 20ms is perfect for gaming and is considered lag free latency.

    Im with rogers. Have 1.5gb througg xb7 modem for cable. Will it work if i plug modem into 2.5gb port through bridge mode then plug my pc into the other 2.5gb port to receive my speeds? I dont know much about the internet stuff but i rather not purcahse this router if i wont be able to get the speeds.

    • @parhamsan
      @parhamsan  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, yes it should work. In the case of rogers ISP you don't need to set any PPPoE credentials. What I suggest is to test the pc that has a 2.5gb nic with the rogers modem/router first to make sure it gives you speeds higher than 1gb. I don't have XB7 modem from rogers, but seems that the ethernet port number 4 is 2.5gb (orange bar beside it). If that's the case you put rogers modem into bridge mode, and connect from port 4 of rogers to the WAN port of the asus router. Then you should get 2.5gb on one port of the asus router. If you need more than one 2.5gb connections, then you need to buy a switch (managed or unmanaged) and connect the 2.5gb from asus to one of the 2.5gb ports on the switch. Then connect other PCs with 2.5gb lan to that switch. Check my other video, I am using a Mokerlink 2.5gb unmanaged switch and so far it has been solid! Let me know if you have any other questions!

The wifi range is crazy good and having 2.5gb wan and 2.5gb lan on the ax6000 is amazing. One thing that I don't recommend is the aimesh on the asus routers (if you have 2 of them). But if you only use ax6000 as your main router if should be fine. I am getting 4/5 bar for wifi from my basement to the top floor of my house. It's a good investment but I bought it when it went on sale for $299. There are also some settings you have to tweak to get higher than gigabit speed which I can help you with when you buy it. @parhamsan  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey, didn't quite catch what you mean, so when you added the PPPoE credentials on the ASUS Router are you getting internet on your Asus router or not?
      With PPPoE passthrough you should be able to access your Bell Modem on 192.168.2.1. Do a speed test on the Bell HH4k/Gigahub and see the result are you getting the advertised speeds on both the Bell Modem and the ASUS Router?
      Obviously because of the 2.5gb WAN port of the ASUS Router you will not get anything higher than 2.2 Down/2.2 Up.
      One more thing, make sure to use the Black LAN of the Bell Modem to the 2.5gb WAN of the ASUS router. What is the computer that you are testing your speed? Does it have a 2.5gb NIC?
      With this configuration you are getting double NAT (meaning one external IP on Bell Modem, and one on the ASUS router).
      On the Dashboard of the ASUS router, do you see an the WAN IP (External IP address) that is different from Bell Modem?
      Make sure to set these values on the ASUS Router:
      AiProtection-->Enabled AiProtection OFF
      Game acceleration-->QoS-->Enable QoS OFF
      (Under Advanced Settings) Firewall-->
      Enable Firewall No
      So turn all of the AiProtection, QoS, and Firewall OFF
      After that restart the ASUS Router and let me know how it goes.

      Ok, I see now, that definitely means either one of your b1 username or password are not correct and you are not getting PPPoE passthrough on the ASUS router.
      May I know the format of the password you are using for the b1 bell username:
      The b1 username has a format of:
      b1xxxxxxxx
      and password is usually either given to you, or you can change your password on your Bell online account. It should be 8 character/number long (exactly 8 character long mix of alphabet and numbers).
      The b1 password is not the password you use to login to you Bell online account to see your bill and usage!!!
      You can change you password from this guide:
      support.bell.ca/internet/connection-help/connection-hub.how_to_update_my_bell_internet_user_id_and
      Nevertheless, is there any specific reason you want to PPPoE passthrough?
      If you are getting proper speeds on you Bell Modem and ASUS router (web gui) the it seems to me you are having wifi setting issues rather than LAN speed correct?
      So this is more likely wifi setting and tweaks.
      to give you an idea, I have recently switched to Bell 3/3gb plan and the max I can get sitting close to my GT-AX600 is around 1.4 Down/1.3 Up on wifi 6.
      600mbps seems slow to me and something is going on.
      Are you devices connected to the ASUS wifi or the Bell wifi?
