So this can only be a couple of things. If it’s coming from the rewind part. Check.. 1. The suppressor. This is a small square box component that sits between the live and neutral, inside the rewind (at the very end of the cable) These do not effect power even if they fail, but can buzz and smell when failing. They are there to stop interference from the vacuum with TV and Radios… analogue signals… so nowadays they are meaningless. You can replace if you like or just remove the part. 2. Less likely would be the cable contacts are not quite making the correct contact underneath the rewind. This would normally cause power issues but not always. If you still need help just shout. Always abit tricky to diagnose without being there but I’m sure this will help 🙂
@@SamFrost-w1m you can just replace the contacts. If you need a replacement rewind for another reason check on eBay or ask on henry fans page as someone may have one. Link below and plenty of people repair on there facebook.com/groups/5692567947443071

oh out of nowhere it just turned on by itself. every few days it works but it turns off by itself then works again after a while. i always use it on the highest level power. is this the cause of it failing?
@@rohani.x hope I can help. 1. Try cleaning the power switch as that could be the issue. (On the high/low models the small light isn’t the same) 2.it could be an intermittent power cable or the contacts under the rewind…. If the power is effective by cable movement. 3. If the 2 above things seem fine then the circuit board inside that controls the hi/low can be the issue. @@vacuumhelp Yes i also replaced the Hi Low switch, no sounds from motor, happened before then worked again but this time nothing, lights on switches come on
@@davidmurphy1019 highly likely to be the circuit board (known as PCB) which has failed. They are becoming hard to find and expensive to buy and only control the high and low. To test if it’s this you can connect the motor wires to one end of your power switch and then the brown and blue power wires to the middle 2 pins. This means you have bypassed the hi/ low set up and the motor will work on high power. If it works you can permanently bypass the circuit or replace the circuit board for a new one if you wish to have the go low still.
Is it the push down on off bottom with the red cover which you press? If so there are quite basic. The switch either gets stuck on or off…. If it’s still “clicking” when you press it on and off the power lid may be with the cable, rewind contacts or even motor. Let me know what symptoms you have and also see this video for more help….
Recently got a new henry and its a shame they got rid of the HIGH/LOW switch like on the previous generation models, Now its much harder to hoover lighter surfaces with the attachment brush even when you adjust the suction thing on the pipe...anyone know their reasoning behind removing the High/low switch and adding a useless power led?
Happened when they dropped the motor size from 1100w to 620w to meet new eu regulations. Not sure why they got rid of the switch though could have still come in handy. Opening the valve on the bent metal pipe takes the suction to 75% if that helps your case
You can blame the EU for that, though you'd think now that we've left the EU, they would revert to the old switches. Since that change, I've definitely noticed the suction is weaker on the new models, though still better than other brands.
Yes, I think it's inevitable that when you switch from 1100w down to 620w, there will definitely be a loss of suction, regardless of what Numatic claim. Unfortunately, there isn't enough of an uproar from the public to revert to the previous models, which were definitely more superior. Perhaps us Brits are too polite.@@vacuumhelp
@@vacuumhelp thank you so much for replying. I actually followed your steps as on the off chance it was the switch. It didn't work so I decided to open the unit up and look inside and the blue wire that runs to the switch had split so all the little copper wires were poking out. Hubby is going to sort it for me. Thanks for giving me the confidence to actually explore what was wrong with it. It's not got the high/low switch, it's 25 years old so just the old on and off switch but it's been my trusty Henry for a long time. It was my mum's when I was a child and I have had it since. So I'm hoping it can be sorted and keep plodding on.
@@LavenderSky33 awww you’re more than welcome. Let me know how you get on. I know the model and if the motor has slowed it’s likely to be the motor that is the problem. @@stickvac ok if the switch on the vacuum is definitely off, then the issue is before the switch. A live and natural are coming into contact. Assuming too that the plug hasn’t got wet. I would also check your switch to ensure all looks ok in there.
Similar happened to me, first time it's happened. Henry was switched off but plugged in to mains socket that was on. Loud pop and smoke which tripped the RCD. @@misssunrise2266 if he has blown the rcd it’s because a neutral (negative) has come into contact with a live. This is usually a faulty cable or the rewind contacts inside (less likely). There was a spark from my hoover I plugged it and no there is no power . Help needed
Let me know the model number… under the handle (eg.hvr200)
Was the spark half way through use? Or when turned on? Or when plugged in?
Also any idea where spark came from?
You legend thank you

Hello! I changed my bag. Now I’ve plugged the Henry back in, the red light is on and it’s not working!? Any thoughts? Many thanks for your help!
The bag won’t effect anything so let’s put that down to a coincidence.
If he was alive and well before with no strange noises. It can be
1. The switch as shown on this video or you can buy a new switch if you prefer on henrybags.co.uk
2. And much less likely… on of the contacts underneath the rewind part of the cable has broken or strained.
My first avenue would 100% be the switch.
I really can’t see if being the motor if he was perfectly fine the last time you used him
Hope this helps and give me a shout if you need any help
Jonny
Ignore my last comment about the rewind part… your light wouldn’t be on if they had broken. So yeh, do the switch
I have a red light when I switch on but nothing else. Have changed the switch and still nothing. I have cleaned contacts at the the lhead atill nothing. The area wasvery ioly. Please help! Thanks
@@claireellis-k6s so you have the model without hi low? Also the contacts are in tact just greasy? Finally was it a sudden death (no strange behaviour or smells?
@@vacuumhelp yes, model without hi low. Quite a lot of grease. Rescued out of the bin so I've no idea on end if life symptoms sorry!
@@claireellis-k6s ahhh ok. I wouldn’t worry too much about the grease. Use the video below… you have covered all the steps almost so just skip to the motor section of the video.

I so need help
@@danielleoneill2119 let me know what issue you are having and symptoms etc. Also if you model has a hi low switch or not. Tell me as much as you can and I will help.
My 2003 henry turns on and works absolutely fine but when its off and left plugged in it makes a buzzing sound from the top
So this can only be a couple of things. If it’s coming from the rewind part. Check..
1. The suppressor. This is a small square box component that sits between the live and neutral, inside the rewind (at the very end of the cable)
These do not effect power even if they fail, but can buzz and smell when failing.
@HenryBags I've checked and it looks like cable contacts but I need to fund a new rewind
@@SamFrost-w1m you can just replace the contacts. If you need a replacement rewind for another reason check on eBay or ask on henry fans page as someone may have one.

Thank you for this, I've got the cheaper Henry that doesn't have the lo high function so it looked a little different inside the switch, however following your instructions still worked perfectly well and now my Henry works again. I'm beyond cuffed. Many, many thanks.
hello my henry hoover out of nowhere just stopped working today. it wont turn on and theres no light . please help
oh out of nowhere it just turned on by itself. every few days it works but it turns off by itself then works again after a while. i always use it on the highest level power. is this the cause of it failing?
@@rohani.x hope I can help.
1. Try cleaning the power switch as that could be the issue. (On the high/low models the small light isn’t the same)
2.it could be an intermittent power cable or the contacts under the rewind…. If the power is effective by cable movement.
3. If the 2 above things seem fine then the circuit board inside that controls the hi/low can be the issue.
For the 2nd and 3rd point above please see the link below to my main video to cure ANY power loss issue.
You need the “cable” and “pcb” sections to show you how to sort your Henry.
Let me k is how you get on
Remove plug from mains and take your time and you will sort it

Hi, can you help, I have just replaced the switch with a new one , the power is on and switch lights up but Henry still does not work :(
Do you have the model with the hi/low switch? And was it a sudden death (no strange motor behaviour)?
@@vacuumhelp Thank you for your quick response, i will give it a go and get back to you
My switch is different it’s has push spade type connections

@@ryokan9120 now that’s a very good point!
Mine was on then started getting slower (the running sound I mean) and then completely stopped ... Any idea ?
Is it the one with a hi/low switch? If not are you getting the led when turned on? Any smells from motor as it was slowing?
I realise it may be of sentimental value and it’s still repairable. Sometimes if can be the carbon brushes on the motor that have worn down (the 2 bits that come into contact with the cemented part of the motor) you can change these for under £10. The complete motors are still available too.
Always here for any advice, genuinely love to help people save their vacuums rather than buy a brand new one (which aren’t as good)

Mines got the light on but still doesn’t work
So have you tried the switch clean?
My Henry light is on so Electic is getting to it but when I turn it on nothing happens?!
Ok so the cable and rewind is ok. Try following this video and 9 times out of 10 it will fix it. The only other issue it could be then is the motor… but these normally start behaving strangely before they actually die.
Please do report back how you get on
Tried this and when I plugged it bk in it tripped the electrics 🙈🙈😭
@@jan9319 did you have power light before tying it?
@HenryBags yes I had power light just not starting. I had used it about 20 mins before and then just wouldn't start again.
@@jan9319 ok for it to trip the electrics a natural and live are touching somewhere. Highly unusual for a dry switch to do this. Usually a cable break or an issue with another part inside. You may now even be able to smell where an arching as occurred inside

@@vacuumhelp thank you I will watch it now and try something else
Hey Henry bags don't suppose you now why my Henry is shorting out my plug
Is it when you turn it on at the mains (with the vacuum’s switch off)
or
Is it ok until you use the switch on the vacuum?
I think it is when It is plugged in it trips
@@stickvac ok if the switch on the vacuum is definitely off, then the issue is before the switch. A live and natural are coming into contact. Assuming too that the plug hasn’t got wet. The issue will be with either
1. The contacts underneath the rewind part. One may have broken and now resting where it shouldn’t be.
2. Issue with power cable. May not be visible if internal.
I would also check your switch to ensure all looks ok in there.
Similar happened to me, first time it's happened. Henry was switched off but plugged in to mains socket that was on. Loud pop and smoke which tripped the RCD. I thought it's probably a fault with the mains socket but Henry won't switch on. I've tried changing the fuse but that hasn't helped. Model HVR 200A.
@@misssunrise2266 if he has blown the rcd it’s because a neutral (negative) has come into contact with a live. This is usually a faulty cable or the rewind contacts inside (less likely). Without the power on carefully inspect you cable. There is a video how to replace that.
It could be the motor too. It does depend if the blow was when you switched him on at the mains… or if he was already on at the mains and he blew when you flicked his green switch?
Just bought a new one, tried this fix and the old ones back to life. Typical!
Oh no lol. Well at least you have a spare. If ever you have any issues at all just ask and I’ll help you. No need to ever buy a new one
