- Just a beautiful way to improve your piano playing - without even realising that it's happening. [WARNING! this is addictive!!]
This video is one of the bonus lessons included in my 'Rebel-Piano' programme.
Improvisation is a key skill at the piano. It builds your confidence at the keyboard, it improves your 'ear', finger dexterity, coordination... everything! It's really enjoyable and there are no rules! Bliss!

Do you find it complicated to play piano? Fingers won't do as they're told! Haha... and playing both hands together! Ouch!
If you'd like me to teach you how to play in a simple, easily achievable, musical way - No reading music, no complicated dots and dashes, just using a method where you will make music' every time you sit at the piano.
Rebel Piano provides a clear path from A to B, from learning the first steps - to getting better and more confident - to improving and mastering playing piano.
Step-by-step.
Monthly projects.
Weekly lessons and inspirations.
Above all, you'll be learning by actually making music - creating music at every stage.
It's enjoyable, it's fun… And I think you'll find it quite addictive!

this is what is missing from most piano lessons. Well done!
@@Travis-hp4jr thanks Travis, we really focus in on improvisation in the Rebel Piano programme. I just love doing this kind of thing 😊🎹
Agreed!
Thanks, found your tube channel only today, bought myself a Yamaha sx900 second hand, can't read music can't play piano, looked already some channels to keep me starting and learning, you Sir, are by far the best teacher, although of course one have to practice and practise, but with your method it's fun and with results. Thanks.
@@rodbtelenetbe Ronny! Thank you for this kind comment. Yes, keep working away at it - but make sure your practice sessions are ‘music sessions’! …this is what I teach in the Rebel Piano programme which reopens on 19th August. Click the link under the video and I’ll keep you informed.
Rob 😊🎹
Ps SX900 - great keyboard. Enjoy 🎹
Yesterday's salad must be ready😂❤
😂 enjoy
This is Fabulous, I play a lot by ear, none of all that music jargon, these videos are wonderful
Thank you
@@maureenthorburn thanks Maureen. Keep on making your music 😊🙏
I improv on my page. I never had any training whatsoever. I started by learning Music Theory for a few years.
I would program notes into my Computer. To Compose. After a year of that, I wanted to play an actual instrument. We always had a stand up piano, so I started practicing. I used Scrolls from YT. I would copy every note it instructed. I've played 300-400 whole songs. Easy versions. It went out of tune. So, I got a keyboard and Amp. From there I've been Free-Styling for a year. My Fav Scales/Keys are D Minor, E Minor, C Phrygian, C Major, and D Dorian.
@@johnwebb4499 great John. Sounds like you’re really getting to make music. I love Dm - and the Dorian mode too 🎹🎹😊😊
Thankyou
@@richblaker9087 you’re welcome Rich 😊🎹
it reminded me of when I was at college playing my friend's keyboard from the music department with absolutely zero knowledge about music just hitting random notes and getting carried away, never knew that years later I got my own keyboard and started playing my favorite songs

Haha. Love it.
I like jamming along using these notes to Lamont Dozier's "Going Back To My Roots" You can use both his own version or Odyssey's they are both in the same key, it's great fun I often do it.
@@mrpooroldme brilliant- great song. I’ll look it up again now 😊🎹

Very enjoyable, I just have an issue of keeping rhythm with two hands. Am I am working on it 😊
@@kenbarry5623 great Ken - keep quietly working at it… and it WILL start to happen 😊🎹
Thank you Rob. I would like to focus on cocktail, light jazz, lounge. How to do that with the method of improv you demoed in this video? Thank you from Mexico.
@@edwardfaircloth7990 Hey Edward, this is just a great method of making nice music using the black notes (mostly). I’ll do another video for that kind of music soon 😊🎹
Happy playing. Rob
It's excellent but in which key/scale are you playing? If I can guess you are playing in E flat minor scale, isn't it?But the flavour is like that of phrygian mode.Your clarification is needed. Thank you.
@@rumenerangabomoise5751 thanks …hmmm not sure!! Definitely Eb minorish 🎶
I’m just making music using the black notes (mostly). I’ll try and answer your question in the video description once I’ve spoken to my friend and musical mentor - who knows about these things! 😊🎹
Yes, please. It was my question too. Why does it work. What's the theory here (I never studied music theory beyond grade 2 level, wish I did.)
with all those black notes then that improv is in key of Gb or Cb. For theory reference look at the circle of 5ths and chord structure, it works because those notes fit together in tone.
@@bobpx thanks Bob that’s very helpful. As you’ve probably guessed- I’m not very good on theory, I’m learning all the time. I tend to discover/make music first - and then find out what I’m doing.
Wishing you happy pianoing. Rob 😊🙏
@@karinarnaud4093 hey Karina, check out Bob’s answer below. I’m afraid I didn’t study theory either! But don’t let that lack of knowledge hold you back from experimenting and making music.
Rob 😊🎹
I'm gonna Steal this progression from you... I need to know what Key and Scale this is? (So I can build onto it)

@@johnwebb4499 hey John, it’s kinda Eb minor… mostly black notes 😊🎹
