As an educator I was impacted! I worked and paid into the Social Security system for 20 years and then became a teacher. I’ve been paying into my educator pension for the past 20 years also. I should be able to draw both. I’m thankful they have finally recognized this! It’s not double-dipping (what the lady at the SS office told me!). It’s getting what I’ve rightfully paid for.
Yes, you can receive social security and teacher retirement!!! I’ve been retired and receiving BOTH for ten years!!! What makes me upset is that I have to file taxes every year on this money that I receive 😫 It’s not fair!!!!!!!
@@carolynmckenzie8122 Yes, but the thing is they would deduct for WEP before this law being passed. You probably didn’t get your full benefit like you will now. I don’t think we should have to pay taxes on a tax we paid in either!
True, I elected to pay the taxes on my SS payments and didn't want to be surprised during tax time with having to pay tax on the money I receive. It would great if they stopped the tax withdrawal and reimbursed me the taxes I've paid on my SS payments since I've started collecting my SS.
Retired teacher here, with other jobs that took out ssi. I've been working 2 jobs and waiting until I was 70 to retire, due to WEP. This is a game changer! Maybe now I can get down to 1 job or retire all the way and explore USA now.
Hallelujah, my husband worked for the government for 40 years the Navy and yes, he put into Social Security and yes, he gets a good pension, but he deserves what he put in. Thank God for everyone else too.
I don't take away or begrudge anyone getting what they paid into and earned. My dad was career military. Just don't come up with some scam to take away from me!
Yes! I'm right there with you! 20 plus years in public education, also worked other jobs before, during, and after and paid into SS only to have it reduced. You explained this very well! Finally!
Congratulations. That is why the budget should consider all citzens children, seniors, vets, widows and all working people including small businesses to determine how much aid they can give to other Hopefully this area will teceive more attention.
I was impacted by this windfall situation. It’s so unfair! I worked 22 years and paid into social security and then worked 18 more years at a city. I lost $800 a month due to the windfall. 😡 I sure hope I can get back pay and the correct SS pay.
It absolutely is unfair!! My understanding is that they will.only pay back pay from January 2024. I'm my opinion they balanced their budgets in our backs!!
I am a retired teacher but I only worked 25 years so pension is not adequate. I thought I would receive social security (for the past years I worked at different jobs) but not only found out about the Windfall Act but also that you need 40 quarters and I had 39. Shouldn’t I still be able to collect something. I was told I would have to go back to a job and make up that quarter!
@@TheDinergirl08. Good luck to you…
Yes, it’s great news The Fairness Act passed! 🎉🎉🎉 (Pres. Biden should sign it into law soon) As newly retired from a county law enforcement agency with a pension, I too was impacted. Social Security reduced my monthly benefit by nearly 55% because of the Windfall Elimination Act. I know Ronald Reagan signed this wackado law in the 80’s’, but good -grief it should not have taken over 40 years to correct it especially since it impacted so many people.

All 4 graduated from college, one has a Master's degree and another one is an attorney. However, at the time it was pretty cruel. OMG! You have blessed me today with this information! I am heading to social security tomorrow. My SS was reduced by SEVENTY PERCENT! I will discuss this in your next live!
I am right with you! I worked for a college for 23 years, but didnt start with them until I was 39, plus I worked a second job for years while working for the university whereas I continued to contribute to social security. What a wonderful start to the New Year!
I just heard that too. It is a fabulous start. What a statement doing in on January 6th. Making that date known for something wonderful instead of a riot and uprising.
@@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 January 6 was NOT an uprising. Do your research. These people were American citizens that were protesting (their Constitutional right) what they thought was a stolen election. And it WAS. Why do you think so many Democrats have now turned Republican, (Trump won EVERY county in the election), because even a lot of Democrats knew an innocent woman was beaten to death by Capitol Police and the FBI were there (dressed as MAGA) in force and provoking it all. Ten have committed suicide, some American veterans among them. Some have been in prison without even a trial for three years or more. Some have not held new babies for over a year. Even the worst prisons do not do this. The mainstream news media is very corrupt and ALL are bought and paid for and they have spread these lies for years now. People are suffering because of this injustice. Some of these people are grandparents too and have not been able to see their grandchildren for months and months because they just walked into their own capitol which they were proud of and paid taxes to keep in operation. One shouldn't rush into believing democrat lies before you do your research.
Happy Signing Day! I don't know about other media outlets, but I checked my C-SPAN app for today's schedule. The signing will be aired live TODAY at 4:00 PM EST!
Millionaires are getting social security, and they should forfeit their payments. That should make social security more balanced. Because why should they get something they don't need. That is the true meaning of windfall elimination.
@@angelahoward6256 if they put into it they should get it …. Just because you manage your money well shouldn’t mean you don’t get what your entitled to. No one should have been relying on just their social security for retirement. It was always meant just to be a supplement.
Agree, if you paid in to SS you should receive your benefit. BUT this will raise the expenditures for SSA, the cap needs to be eliminated so that we can fully fund SS and keep the benefits from being reduced moving forward.
I was impacted as well. I was military and worked under CSRS and also worked paying FICA combined service of 45 years. I understand that you don’t have to do anything. However, in your case I would go online and make an appointment with SSA. I am interested in seeing how the adjust my SSID.
Girl! I am happy for you that the windfall whatever act was finally overturned by congress & Biden just signed into law. I have been writing my Congress Critters about this every year since I found out about it in early 1990s. This is a good lesson in “step by step the longest march will be won”.
Merry Christmas! I’m so pleased for you Gloria! I live in the UK and our government extended our retirement age by six years and stole six years of our pensions to balance their books. I am fuming! our stupid prime minister has just doubled down on the act and on top of that he has removed our winter fuel allowance and increased our taxes. So I am so very happy for you, at least your government are finally doing the right thing. Bless you. ❤🎄
If you were married to your ex for, at least, ten years, you should be able to collect a portion of his SS if he made more money than you. You receive an even higher portion of his SS each month if/when he dies.
Canada, immigrants who will not be contributing to our tax rolls, that are " seniors" are entitled to benefits that Canadian senior citizens paid into for their whole adult lives and still need to " apply and answer endless questions to prove eligibility ". Unforgivable.

As long as you was together for more than ten years if his was higher you can use his over yours but not both thats what we where told ❤
Yes. We definitely should receive our SS that we paid into for years!
Excellent idea
I was impacted as well. I was military and worked under CSRS and also worked paying FICA combined service of 45 years. I understand that you don’t have to do anything. However, in your case I would go online and make an appointment with SSA. I am interested in seeing how the adjust my SSID.
Great news!
Girl! I am happy for you that the windfall whatever act was finally overturned by congress & Biden just signed into law. I have been writing my Congress Critters about this every year since I found out about it in early 1990s. This is a good lesson in “step by step the longest march will be won”.
It was a long time coming for sure.
Thank you so much for fighting for us!!
Did Biden sign it? Not seeing that reported yet online as of 12/26. 😊
@@DayL8r I don't think he signed it yet. Hopefully soon!
@ Oops, my bad. Not yet, but he said he would. Technically, he has until December 31st to sign it.
Bless you. ❤🎄
Six years is huge and then on top to take away your winter fuel allowance when people need it the most. I am so sorry to hear that!!
President Joe Biden has just signed HR 82, the Social Security Fairness Act!
They did it to me when I was on SSI couse I hardly worked I was married 20 years he mad good money
I just filed for Social Security recently and they told me that when my ex get his, I can get his too. But you have to be married 10 years
If you were married to your ex for, at least, ten years, you should be able to collect a portion of his SS if he made more money than you.
You receive an even higher portion of his SS each month if/when he dies.
You will only get one Social Security check. Husband or your own. Which ever one is more.
@ WRONG. The wife gets her SS plus a percentage of the ex.
@@Babyface76-19
Definitely his!!
Absolutely correct! My ex passed away and I can personally attest to what you're saying. @@mrsdashwood9700
I was also affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision
It is a shame how all of us have been cheated!!
Congratulations ❤❤❤
Canada, immigrants who will not be contributing to our tax rolls, that are " seniors" are entitled to benefits that Canadian senior citizens paid into for their whole adult lives and still need to " apply and answer endless questions to prove eligibility ".
Unforgivable.
