As an educator I was impacted! I worked and paid into the Social Security system for 20 years and then became a teacher. I’ve been paying into my educator pension for the past 20 years also. I should be able to draw both. I’m thankful they have finally recognized this! It’s not double-dipping (what the lady at the SS office told me!). It’s getting what I’ve rightfully paid for.

True, I elected to pay the taxes on my SS payments and didn't want to be surprised during tax time with having to pay tax on the money I receive. It would great if they stopped the tax withdrawal and reimbursed me the taxes I've paid on my SS payments since I've started collecting my SS.

My sister was a young widow with 4 kids that she had to support the year that Regan stopped SS benefits after 18. This caused a great deal of hardship for my sister. However, she persevered and now her kids are middle aged adults and are doing well due to her love and the sacrifices she made for them. All 4 graduated from college, one has a Master's degree and another one is an attorney. However, at the time it was pretty cruel. I think the difference is the military was a retirement, not pension. Although it sounds like the same thing it is not. When you retire from the military they have the right to call you back to service if needed. My husband served 28 years and receives a retirement and that is how he explained it to me. Now soldiers get a 401k and the retirement for the new generation of military is gone. I’m so glad the windfall law is gone as it was very unfair. It’s about time.

Maybe you already know this, but I've been seeing reports--and I received an email today from an officer representing the National Association of Retired Federal Employees---confirming that President Biden is scheduled to sign the Social Security Fairness Act at the White House on Monday, January 6, at 10 AM EST.
What a wonderful start to the New Year!

I just heard that too. It is a fabulous start. What a statement doing in on January 6th. Making that date known for something wonderful instead of a riot and uprising.

@@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 January 6 was NOT an uprising. Do your research. These people were American citizens that were protesting (their Constitutional right) what they thought was a stolen election. And it WAS. Why do you think so many Democrats have now turned Republican, (Trump won EVERY county in the election), because even a lot of Democrats knew an innocent woman was beaten to death by Capitol Police and the FBI were there (dressed as MAGA) in force and provoking it all. Ten have committed suicide, some American veterans among them. Some have been in prison without even a trial for three years or more. Some have not held new babies for over a year. Even the worst prisons do not do this. The mainstream news media is very corrupt and ALL are bought and paid for and they have spread these lies for years now. People are suffering because of this injustice. Some of these people are grandparents too and have not been able to see their grandchildren for months and months because they just walked into their own capitol which they were proud of and paid taxes to keep in operation. One shouldn't rush into believing democrat lies before you do your research.

Millionaires are getting social security, and they should forfeit their payments. That should make social security more balanced. Because why should they get something they don't need. That is the true meaning of windfall elimination.

@@angelahoward6256 if they put into it they should get it …. Just because you manage your money well shouldn’t mean you don’t get what your entitled to. No one should have been relying on just their social security for retirement. It was always meant just to be a supplement.

Agree, if you paid in to SS you should receive your benefit. BUT this will raise the expenditures for SSA, the cap needs to be eliminated so that we can fully fund SS and keep the benefits from being reduced moving forward.

I was impacted as well. I was military and worked under CSRS and also worked paying FICA combined service of 45 years. I understand that you don’t have to do anything. However, in your case I would go online and make an appointment with SSA. I am interested in seeing how the adjust my SSID.

Girl! I am happy for you that the windfall whatever act was finally overturned by congress & Biden just signed into law. I have been writing my Congress Critters about this every year since I found out about it in early 1990s. This is a good lesson in “step by step the longest march will be won”.

Merry Christmas! I’m so pleased for you Gloria! I live in the UK and our government extended our retirement age by six years and stole six years of our pensions to balance their books. I am fuming! our stupid prime minister has just doubled down on the act and on top of that he has removed our winter fuel allowance and increased our taxes. So I am so very happy for you, at least your government are finally doing the right thing. Bless you. ❤🎄

If you were married to your ex for, at least, ten years, you should be able to collect a portion of his SS if he made more money than you.
You receive an even higher portion of his SS each month if/when he dies.

Canada, immigrants who will not be contributing to our tax rolls, that are " seniors" are entitled to benefits that Canadian senior citizens paid into for their whole adult lives and still need to " apply and answer endless questions to prove eligibility ".
    Unforgivable.
