On the Nextdoor site for our local area, people are going insane about...of all things...wearing masks. They've been screaming about how its taking away their "freedom" and refusing to wear them when they're out and about. Its people like this that are going to be responsible for spreading a second wave of this.
I’m sorry but saying the cases dropped in the hospital doesn’t necessarily mean cases have dropped. Many of the patients are being told to stay home and not go to the hospitals. Many of my friends who have gotten covid were told to stay home and staff will come to them. These reports are not necessarily about less people getting sick.
Cases in NYC have definitely been slowly dropping and are nowhere near the amount at the peak, but I agree that the numbers could be inaccurate because of how many people stay home and don’t get tested despite showing symptoms.

Many don’t know, but Elmhurst hospital is known as one of the worst hospitals in Queens. When they were hit hard by the situation, it was no mystery to most who stay in nyc as to why. Before this situation that hospital was highly disorganized and labeled a “hood” hospital. Many of the practices done there were not the best. Now this is not to knock ANY worker there. I am simply saying this was the outside view of that hospital and their care. Sad to say, but this situation has caused that hospital to step up their practices to the level of a top notch hospital!

Both my parents are working through this pandemic, both in hospitals. My father, who has worked there for about 25-30 years had to file for unemployment. He was not a doctor, rather an Human Resources manager, making a very good pay. I recently had to go back to my parents town in Tennessee. My whole family is staying in this house. There has not been much happiness since this whole thing started. Even I have been called upon by the local Guards to help people obey the quarantine laws in place. But seeing this make me know that it is not just me, but millions of Americans, some of them making 100-200k a year, now sitting and watching their life’s work go out the window. To any and everyone, no matter you religion, age, gender, nationality, class, profession, I am praying for you.

People in other parts of the country, even other parts of NY, have no idea how densely populated, how packed this area is. People own cars but there are still many people who walk everywhere or take public transportation. Queens is dense and this is a particularly crowded part with a lot of people who might not have adequate healthcare.

Despite all the negative press surrounding the US, just want to give a big shout-out to these selfless workers in treating people. Pandemics truly test the capacity & effectiveness of health care systems to their breaking point. The less severe cases (as in you’re not dying, but you’ve got it on a level that’s basically a flu) usually stay home, and only go when it becomes...severe
When people lived their lives normally back in February, just 1 case of coronavirus in China led to multiple countries infected and thousands of people diagnosed with the disease. Just now 1 person in South Korea, a country that almost got rid of the virus, infected 120 people. This virus will not go away in a society that relaxes social distancing because as long as 1 person still has the disease then they will continue to infect those around them. Furthermore even if a nation has no cases at all there will still be someone from another country that comes in and starts it all over again. It seems to me the only hope for getting rid of this disease is going to be the vaccine, so we can either all continue to social distance for another 1-2 years or go back to our normal lives and just live with whatever happens.

I work in a clinic in the Bronx and it’s empty. We have no patients. Lincoln hospital is also very quiet and empty. And that hospital was always busy. It’s a trauma hospital. The other day there was a fake fire drill to get everyone outside for a drive by of ambulances, fire trucks and the borough president RUBEN Diaz. It’s a joke! Is that even legal to stage a fire drill? They forced everyone outside for that. We’re not even treating anyone. Also I want to add that major deblasio has been visiting all of nyc health and hospitals and clinics and never wears masks. They show pictures of this on our home page on our computers. Yet the whole hospital is crowed around them. Where’s the social distancing? People in other parts of the country, even other parts of NY, have no idea how densely populated, how packed this area is. People own cars but there are still many people who walk everywhere or take public transportation. Queens is dense and this is a particularly crowded part with a lot of people who might not have adequate healthcare.
All the neighbors around that hospital is over populated, there are lots of people (6,8,10) sharing a 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. That part of queens is a slum!!!

Despite all the negative press surrounding the US, just want to give a big shout-out to these selfless workers in treating people. Pandemics truly test the capacity & effectiveness of health care systems to their breaking point. Though there will be more cases since businesses can't stay closed forever and people have to go out, I hope these righteous workers keep up their good work in what I find to be the only positive news these days.
My cousin went to New York she is a nurse and she helped with COVID-19 patients and it’s been three weeks and she has gotten back and she still not ready to talk about what happened there I’m pretty sure she’s scarred for life

When people lived their lives normally back in February, just 1 case of coronavirus in China led to multiple countries infected and thousands of people diagnosed with the disease. Just now 1 person in South Korea, a country that almost got rid of the virus, infected 120 people. This virus will not go away in a society that relaxes social distancing because as long as 1 person still has the disease then they will continue to infect those around them. Furthermore even if a nation has no cases at all there will still be someone from another country that comes in and starts it all over again. It seems to me the only hope for getting rid of this disease is going to be the vaccine, so we can either all continue to social distance for another 1-2 years or go back to our normal lives and just live with whatever happens.

I work in a clinic in the Bronx and it’s empty. We have no patients. Lincoln hospital is also very quiet and empty. And that hospital was always busy. It’s a trauma hospital. The other day there was a fake fire drill to get everyone outside for a drive by of ambulances, fire trucks and the borough president RUBEN Diaz. It’s a joke! Is that even legal to stage a fire drill? They forced everyone outside for that. We’re not even treating anyone.
Also I want to add that major deblasio has been visiting all of nyc health and hospitals and clinics and never wears masks. They show pictures of this on our home page on our computers. Yet the whole hospital is crowed around them. Where’s the social distancing? And also who is caring for all of the critical patients in the hospital if the entire (or majority) of the staff is outside? Think about this 🤔
