    BYU likes being the underdog. It's in their DNA. 10 years of Indepedence ingrained that mentality into the program. They Don't know how to play from a top or lead position. The Alamo Bowl was the perfect scenario for BYU. No love, no Press, no Hope... that's when BYU shines. This season was the perfect storm. Even against lesser ranked teams, BYU was picked to lose by odds makers over and over. Kalani's biggest job is going to be retraining every person and player in the Football program to play from ahead or as the favorite. If he can't? Then BYU will always be an upper tier team in the B12 but not the perennial power house they want to be...

      Probably because they won 11 games…
      And it’s not just because the defense. Utahs defense was just as good as BYUs this year (going off points allowed) yet they had a 7 game losing streak.
      BYU did a lot of good things offensively, they moved the ball Retzlaff was their leading rusher through the first 1/3 of the season due to an injury depleted RB room.
      Retzlaff was hurt against Utah and probably shouldn’t have played against Kansas.
      Offense has a lot of good things going for them and has retooled the o line nicely. Comp Zach Wilson’s first 18 starts to Retzlaff (and Retzlaff played better competition) and you would take Retzlaff.

  • @jkh2180
    @jkh2180 3 дня назад +2

    The problem with the committee is that they use all the wrong things to get to their 12.
    They use eye test. There is undoubtedly brand and conference bias. They use ridiculous talent composites. They use "ranked" wins and "top 25" wins which are useless because teams are misranked from week one on, all the way through the season.
    My rankings are entirely result based according to all results THAT season. And my rankings remove all bias And by result based I don't mean being lazy and just looking at W/L.
    My rankings have 4 key factors
    1) Quality wins. Quality wins are wins over 10+ win teams. If you beat some of the best teams you deserve your place in the convo. Common sense. Wins over 10+ win P4 teams mean more than wins over 10+ win G5 but it's all quality.
    2) Record/Quantity/Quality/Win% vs Bowl Eligible opponents
    3) Record/Quantity/Quality/Win% vs P4 opponents
    4) Strength of schedule based on total opponent W/L record THAT season
    And the final step the formula is to use losses as deductions. Losses are weighted (losing to 10+ win opponent isn't as impactful as losing to 6-6 P4, Losing to a 6-6 P4 isn't as impactful as losing to a non 10 win G5, etc)
    Using this results based formula I had BYU and Alabama IN and Notre Dame and Indiana OUT (Notre Dame was only bumped out due to Clemson winning the ACC, they were ranked 12)

    I thought the big 12 made the same mistake by putting in Iowa State for big 12 championship. BYU had the better resume. In my opinion, the big 12 don't have anything to complain about the playoffs since it was they that eliminated the better team from the championship to become eligible. The big 12 decided to smug BYU and so how can they expect the playoff committee to respect them if their own conference snubbed them.
