Good review, this is practically the holy grail in certain circles. I bought a ton with all the hype and found it to be quite strong, smoked it too fast and about knocked me over. I’ve tried it several times since then, took it a lot slower, and can see why people enjoy it. However, I have many other blends I would smoke before this one. Have a great weekend!
Really enjoy your honesty and respect for Cornell in your review of ' Haunted Book Shop'. I am a new pipe smoker and watched your video on ' Three Pipe Tobacco for Beginners' I have tried two of the three and the third is in route. The Autumn Evenings is wonderful and I have really enjoyed it out of five stars I give it 5. The Crumble Cake, Red I do not enjoy. The product is of fine quality but I just do not care for it. Will not re - order. The Good Morning blend is on the way. I am hopeful. This is the third video I have watched of yours, Review of Haunted Book Shop, which I have recently purchased before finding the rest of your videos, and is in route. I do not enjoy aromatics, with the exception of Cornell Autumn Evenings, which is crazy because it was the reason I thought I stared the hobby, which I truly enjoy, I am a big Burley fan and have a tin of ORIGINAL FORMULA - BALKAN Pipe Tobacco Mixture ( SASIENI LONDON ) that I would gladly trade for your Haunted Book Shop. It does have a very small pinch taken from it and will be the only pinch taken of it from me. Not my note. I purchased it before my Missouri Pride Corn Cod Pipe and before I found you on U TUBE. Still haven't smoked the taste of that pinch out of my cob.
I agree completely with your assessment. Not a big fan of it, although my opinion has softened from the first time I tried it. Seems to taste better out of my cob over a briar, for me at least.
Yes, I agree and it has helped me define the fact i am not a burley fan, i will say it is quality tobacco though, the tin note is sour....i do agree and can understand why some would really love this, it is strong on the nic.... I am a big Latakia fan, even smoke it straight sometimes, so if your a Lat-lover might give you an idea that this is 360 from something like an English blend, thanks for the review...
I couldn't agree with you more, I don't care for it and it is a little barnyardy. I blended what I got 2/1 with Pegasus and it is much more smokeable now, they actually go together very well, the cavendish in Pegasus seems to be the key I believe. I labeled the jar Haunted Pegasus Bookshop.
@@kareneighth6045 That ratio is 2 Pegasus to 1 HB, just to clarify. I hope you do try it, give it a few days to marry and for me they both elevate the other.
I bought Haunted Bookshop based on the name 😆 I am a new piper whose still trying to figure out what I like, and while it’s not my favorite on the draw, I do love that nutty/caramely retrohale. I am using it to break in my first briar since it doesn’t seem to get as hot as some others I have on hand.
Just tried my first pipe full. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. Thought it had a perfect amount of spice to go with the nutty flavors, but I didn't get any sweetness. I'll keep smoking it, but prefer more virginia in my blends.
I like Haunted Bookshop because of how it smokes. It’s the perfect Pack and Puff tobacco. I’m not a huge fan of how it taste, it’s just kinda, mehhh for me, but it’s one of the few tins that I’ve smoke completely through. For me, it’s great to have on hand, but not my favorite flavor, but a fantastic smoking experience.
I tried this blend many years ago because Matches860 (rest in peace John) smoked it regularly. I hate to admit but I really didn't care for it. However I forgot to jar it and had completely dried out. I had an idea and rehydrate it with a small amount of bourbon. WOW this was what was missing for me from the blend. I order some every.now.and then and give it that same treatment.
I totally agree. I got this to smoke during Halloween b/c of the namesake & b/c I love Matches 860 but it's on the harsh side, it is reminiscent of smoking a cigarette, & the room note is not pleasant. I do understand why it's loved by so many there r some good qualities to it. It's packable, easy to stay lit, smokes dry but I do get an ash taste at the back of my pallet & the nic hit is up there. I kid u not, the tin note to me smells like manure & rasins. I asked my wife to smell the tin & she said, "it smells like horse sh*@ & plumbs" LOL 😆 based on your review I did order Chelsea Morning & cant wait to try it
Really wished I had earnestly watched your review before buying it. I tend to stick with your recommendations and have enjoyed them all. I got this and was not impressed. Maybe it had to do with what I was drinking along with it. I’ll try another bowl this weekend to make up my mind.
HB for me is too bland and way to close to cigarettes. I'm working off a tin of it and I'm going to mix it with the last of my Pirate Kake like Matches did. That should off set the blandness. In terms of burley blends, if you haven't tried HH Burley Flake, you will likely enjoy that much better than HB. Between HHBF and Solani Aged Burley Flake, you have two big winners in the burley category.
I had to sit down to get through my first three bowls of this. I really like the taste of it, and it no longer knocks me over. I don't smoke it every day. I like English, Orientals, and especially VaPers, but I still smoke Haunted Bookshop a couple times a week. People have different tastes and there is nothing wrong with that. Thanks for honest review.
Love your honesty. I feel the same way about latakia. Petersons Early Morning Pipe sealed it for me. How ever, no question about it, EMP is a quality tobacco. It's just not for me.
Just saw your comment by chance and decided to respond - do not dismiss Latakia blends because of EMP!!! I know because I nearly did! It was the second Latakia based tobacco I’ve tried and quite frankly one of the worst tobaccos on the market! Greatly overrated, harsh, bitter! Anyway there are plenty of fine Latakia based blends out there worth trying! If you can get any of the Germains give them a shot! ✌️ As for HB - never tried it!

A blend that is too strong for me. Can’t smoke the rest so will give it away to someone that wants it.
Very accurate description! I keep some around, for every now & then! But there are better blends out there for me!

Good idea!
Pegasus suits me also, and not a fan of HB myself. But I do have some HB, and and may try that mix.

Haunted Bookshop and Shandygaff are my two everyday smokes and then smoking whatever i got cracked
Love the honest review, thanks 🙏

I just picked up my first tin of Haunted Bookshop so I’m deciding what pipe to use and then give it a try.
I haven’t gotten around to try this yet. I’ve been a bit reluctant. I think I’ll give it a go in cooler weather. :)
It does seem like a nice Christmas blend.

Definitely agree. I've had a taste for Burley flakes as of late but HB is just not for me! Hope you enjoy CM. It is a near perfect blend imo!
Really wished I had earnestly watched your review before buying it. I tend to stick with your recommendations and have enjoyed them all. I got this and was not impressed. Maybe it had to do with what I was drinking along with it. I’ll try another bowl this weekend to make up my mind.
HB and OJK are a couple of my favorites. If we all liked the same stuff this community would be pretty boring.

It’s awful. Makes me sick.
