Jamboree in the same tier as 9 is actually mental lol I think the boards are honestly very strong, and despite gripes with the animation times affecting game pace, I feel like this is a problem that would only really grate on someone if they were playing the game for like a dozen hours at once to rush through all of its content. Playing the game with only one or two matches at a time like you normally would, it hasn’t actually bothered me very much. It’s still a concern, but not one I’d say knocks it down a whole tier or anything like that. And it’s no secret ND Cube loves their coins, but I think Jamboree nails its balancing for the most part. I like the Jamboree minigames and the ally system can lead to some seriously fun strats. You can acquire a lot of coins but you’ll spend or lose them just as quickly, and sitting on a pile of coins usually doesn’t end well as you wouldn’t have playmaking options in the late game. I think a lot of older MP fans need to get used to this game philosophy, I know Nintendo fans seem to *hate* formula changes in general, but higher coin games isn’t an inherent flaw and can be done well. Execution over concept almost every time. The minigame complaint is valid, as non motion minigames cuts your options by quite a bit, and not only that, but the quality of those minigames is often questionable too. Extra minigames would be greatly appreciated and I hope we do get some, however unlikely that sounds. Overall I’d definitely put Jamboree in my top 5 at least, Superstars with its very low board count, very low character count, and lack of extra content does hurt its replayability. I didn’t enjoy how every board was a remake, despite the actual Party gameplay being fantastic. Jamboree is infinitely more ambitious, and while I think it becomes obsessed with being a massive title in several areas, it manages to shake things up enough while delivering on those concepts in an extremely enjoyable way. This game could easily be a top 3 MP with some extra tuning.
I think pacing absolutely affects more people than just RUclipsrs marathoning the game. I mean, think about how hard it can already be to get friends on board for a full game of Mario Party, and now imagine saying “oh yeah if we pick the shortest option, it will still take 90 minutes” As someone who loves Mario Party a lot, making sure the game is as fast as possible just makes the game better for everyone, which makes such a blatant step backwards in that regard so bizarre to me. I’m getting more used to high coin Mario Party but I do think it makes certain things less enjoyable. Boo often feels inevitable bc everyone has 50 coins by turn 5, and it feels like there’s less strategy for what to buy at the shop when you have so much. I think if Lucky Spaces couldn’t give more than like 5 coins until the halfway point or something things would feel a lot better. I will clarify that 9 is at the absolute bottom of that tier and is mainly there because I appreciate it experimenting and trying new things (even if they didn’t work out) and Jamboree is at the top because there really is a lot I like about the game, but having less minigames than MP2 in 2024 just feels really bad.

5:40 They probably upped the estimated times because games in Superstars took longer than it says already. For example, 10 turn games in Superstars usually took around 90 minutes, even though it says 60. Yes, if you sped through, you could definitely get the game to be 60 minutes (for both Superstars and Jamboree), but normal 10 turn games would usually take an hour and a half.
Putting 7 in Mid when its just 6 with better boards is a choice that I could get into, but my biggest comment is that I feel you ranked the island map a bit too harshly. It's a board heavily about planning where your going to be when the tide changes and having items to move you about. There are a ton of warping items in this game and two boo spaces so there is a lot of thought that goes into the gameplay. It also for sure benefits from longer turn counts
Yeah I think I maybe came off as a bit harsh towards Goomba Lagoon in the video, I definitely meant to more clearly distinguish it from Roll 'em Raceway because it is definitely a step above that one, (but I forgot in the script) and felt like it had more potential going for it. 7 is not "just 6 with better boards". like just objectively speaking: Windmillville is a giant circle with swapping paths (no agency, and this idea was done much better in MP8), Neon Heights has 2 really long minigames that everyone plays everytime they pass them on the board (genuinely adds up to like 10-15 minutes over an entire game, there is 0 reason to say no), Pyramid Park is just a less balanced version of Snowflake Lake because everyone just gravitates towards the Red Chomp. Bowser map is just kinda bad. I like Grand Canal and Pagoda Peak. Not even mentioning that all of these maps are just plagued by Bowser time ruining the pacing of games. Every 5 turns a bridge is broken and you cant progress past a certain point, or Bowser drains everyone's coins for no reason, or Bowser will dive bomb 3rd place's windmill for some reason. All these things do is waste everyone's time every 5 turns. As well as other MP7 oddities like 2v2 mode forcing you and your teammate to move together, duels losing the wagering system (and sometimes not giving any reward at all just to waste everyone's time), not having chance time (that's THE Mario Party Space!), just make it kind of annoying to go back to. Meanwhile Mario Party 6 Boards are just inherently more interesting because of the day/night gimmick. Castaway Bay bringing back the Mario's Rainbow Castle Gimmick but in a game with a good item system (genuinely one of the most fun 2v2 maps in the series). Faire Square can lead to super high scoring and chaotic games with the night time price changes. E Gadd's Garage is easily one of my favorite classic maps. Even if I don't fw Clockwork Castle, switching directions and changing from chasing an NPC to being chased by one is a new and cool dynamic. Night time in Snowflake Lake cutting off the safe paths makes for a much more aggressive star steal map than Pyramid Park.
@@biggarffan37 Cant really defend dualing for nothing, idk what they were thinking there I think Bowser time could have been refined a bit more but I feel like it could also add a good amount of shakeup every few turns, though when it was just a 20 coin picture it wasnt so great. I assume they added more chaos to make up for no chance time, and while I agree chance time should exist I dont think it not existing brings down the game when there are other systems in place that can just as easily shake things up. Plus it makes up for bowser spaces being less frequent at the start of maps, (Along with just, Koopa Kid Spaces existing, which can have pretty game changing effects, especially on boards where you wanna control WHEN specifically you want arrive somewhere, like Pagoda, Windmillville, and Pyrmid Park) I think Windmillville is a far better version of what followed in 8, it mixing that gimmick with the ever changing paths, making controlling your movement and where you were on the board very important, the version in 8 is a little barebones too, with some of the better things also being based on either luck or controlling movment, I think while they are both simple I prefer the feel of windmill. Also I just dont like the feel of 8 in general, and much prefer 7 and its item system, though its probably my least favorite map in the game still I don't really have anything to say for the minigames in neon hights, because its such a non issue to me, it adds time but its not really enough for me to care, I really like the vibe of the board and with the gimmick you end up spending a lot of money, so having those extra games to earn money helps there along with fitting with the theme of the board. Its probably my favorite map behind Pagoda Peak. The Pyramid Park I honestly just think is about the same in enjoyment as Snowflake Lake. I think they each capture the gimmick in a different way and require different planning in each. Sure you can rush the red chomp in 7 but it comes with its own risk, knowing when to stay the right side and staying far away or when to go for it is what makes it fun, stars are always moving around in either map, though 6 can be more aggressive. I think the Bowser map is pretty solid. The only issue I have with it, is it always feels like the same two islands end up sinking, but I think an island in general being out of the picture for a while when its NOT always the same one is a lot of fun, and a race can quickly turn south for everyone if nobody reaches the star in time. I also think, character specific items aside, 7 has a better item system than 6. Though together they are by far my favorite item system in MP, with only 3 being close. Board building is just so much fun, and if 5 wasnt the slowest game in the world it would be up there for me too. They really need to push into that side of things more in future games
@@scotsoulgem we can def agree to disagree on the maps. I do agree that I miss orb/capsule system stuff and board building. It's nice that Jamboree has some traps you can place, but only being able to place 2+ and 2- and only coin/star stuff makes it feel a bit limited and shallow. Really miss being able to place all kinds of spaces.
@@biggarffan37 Board building better return in the next game, I think it was really the perfect system for items, I'd even have taken it as a board gimmick for a single board in this one. This is up there for my favorite item pool outside of that though. 3 still wins, its rare items were more cool than in SMPJ. The bowser phone being random in this one shows a fear of chaos 3 didnt care, 3 had the wacky watch, probably the coolest item in all of mario party
Very much agree! Pacing is too slow, not enough mini games for the board. They could have easily added all the mini games from Superstars and had an option to toggle off the mini games you don't want. Toggle off the repeated dialogue to speed up pace of play and a toggle for Buddies if you don't want them. Easy fix! Toggle on or off a double price for items if you don't like the economy.
Okay, pausing the video to give my perspective on things as you say them. -Yeah, the mini game count being this low and stretched across the side modes is disappointing. I’m forgiving since I like most of the general mini games in this one, but it’s a problem I REALLY hope DLC can fix. -I’m a freak that loves Koopathlon, lol. I regularly throw it on to play while I listen to videos to have something to do, since it’s fun to try and see if I can’t manage a win. It’s not perfect, and I vastly prefer how Coinathlon from Star Rush handled the concept. Still, it’s a fun mode to try and do well in, and that feeling of “OH, THREE COIN GAMES I’M GOOD AT!? Time to lock in” that can be followed with “Man, this rotation sucks, but I’ll try my best” is always fun for me. -I agree the game has a slower pace and that isn’t great. But I literally don’t have half as much a problem with it as other people… since I haven’t had the chance to play with more than myself and one other person at a time (I prefer in person multiplayer sessions), so half of my game is actually able to be sped up since you can, bizarrely, alter CPU movement, but not humans. That’s a weird oversight I hope they patch in the future. Even if we don’t get DLC, that seems like a fair thing to fix. -I like all the boards, though! Mega Wiggle is a classic, plain, and simple starter board, but the theming elevates it to one of my favorites. Goomba Lagoon’s probably my least favorite since moving around the board is a hassle, but it’s still solid. Rainbow Galleria is a good board with a neat gimmick of “get lots of coins, buy lots of stuff” and I’d say it benefits best from the coin economy in Jamboree. Roll ‘Em Raceway is just a fun themed race track board. Mario’s Rainbow Castle is one I appreciate a lot more now, since the board has some strategy elements you have to work around. Western Land is just a classic and one I wanted to see return- I love old west theming, and it’s a well designed board and the train mechanic has been fleshed out way more, and IMO, for the better. And King Bowser’s Keep has some neat ideas, but like Mega Wiggler, is kind of just a classic Bowser board. -Yeah, pacing on the Showdown Mini Games can be kinda rough. Some feel better like Wario’s or Luigi’s, where it’s a lot of rounds of something, but they’re all relatively quickfire, so it balances it out. Something like Waluigi’s or, sadly, my boy DK’s, can feel like a slog to play through. But I do appreciate the risk/reward system the Allies provide. An option to turn them off would be nice, but I really enjoy this system, even if the mini games for it aren’t the best. And yeah, how easy Allies are stolen and how they slow pacing isn’t great. It’s not a flawless system, but the good outweighs the bad, IMO. -Pro Rules is a neat option, is all I have to say. -Haven’t gotten to Rhythm Kitchen or Bowser’s Kaboom Squad yet (Sonic x Shadow Generations dropping a week after didn’t help, lol) but the former looks very charming compared to the Rhythm games from Super, and the latter looks like a more interesting take on the River Survival mode from Super. Neat ideas, and better executions than their predecessors, it looks like. -Paratroopa Flight School and Toad’s Item Factory look like cute side modes you try once, but not much beyond that. -The single player was a fun little side thing to do, not too deep, but charming in its own right. And overall, I’d probably put this game in great. What’s there, I really like a lot. It’s got notable flaws holding it back, but I am easy to please, K will admit. But no, you don’t come off as too harsh- your tone was relaxed throughout and I can respect all your criticisms. And looking at the comments, you saying mid should be a “flawed” tier instead is a fair assessment of the game. We all look at games different, and Jamboree just didn’t hit for you like it did for me. And I can respect that.
Not true! In the past year I’ve loved the RPG Remakes and Mario Wonder (excited for Brothership as well). On the switch in general Odyssey and Mario Maker 2 are great! I also pretty explicitly state in this video that I do not hate Jamboree, I just have issues with it :)
Maybe if you didn’t needlessly force yourself to stream this game for 24 hours straight, you would’ve liked and appreciated it more for what it is and the problems wouldn’t have annoyed you as much as they did. This is what annoys me about certain RUclipsrs, they always feel the need to force themselves to play these games for ungodly long amounts of time for no reason when that simply isn’t the ideal way to play a game and it will only sour your opinions on said game. Play games at your own leisurely pace rather than force yourself to do it all at once because when you do the latter, it makes it seem like you’re playing these games out of obligation, not out of interest. Putting it on “Mid” tier also irks me a lot. You really should reword the tiers on that tier list because this game and MP7 are *not* “Mid”.
@@coasterplay1062 This is what treating one rando’s opinion on the internet as gospel looks like at its finest. I’m sure you totally actually played the game and didn’t just blindly agree to this review and let someone else speak your thoughts on the game for you. Also, no that’s not how that works. Playing any Mario Party game for that long will of course inevitably sour your opinion on said game. No Mario Party game is meant to be played for 24 fucking hours straight.
@@Rediscool9 I played it for myself and I am underwhelmed in almost all aspects. From the lack of board customization to the bad distribution of minigames and the broken coin economy. I don’t need a RUclipsr to see that.

Just give us more customization options, no one is asking for random side modes. Stop the random side modes and let us fully customize the main mode and it would be the best Mario party.
“No one is asking for random side modes” Bruh, random side modes have been a thing in Mario Party since MP3. Also I, for one, greatly appreciate “random side modes” in my Mario Party game. The literal main criticism people had for Superstars was that there literally was nothing else to do outside of the main board play and minigames. Sometimes, “random side modes” give more things to actually do and give more variety in the literal PARTY game.
Honestly my biggest gripe is the minigame count, when I heard "120 minigames" or whatever I was really excited but quickly I realize that you get the same games a lot.. especially if you dont wanna enable motion minigames.
The advertising felt a bit dishonest in a lot of ways. Having the option to disable motion games is nice, but I found myself playing with them on, not because I particularly liked them, but bc I just wanted more games to play.
@@biggarffan37 It’s not dishonest. They literally said the game had 110+ minigames in *general* which is just objectively true, they never once said that there are also 110+ minigames in JUST the main board game + without motion controls.
One of the more disappointing things tbh. It felt like they really figured it out with Superstars, that game feels so snappy. Idk why they would revert to slowing it down.

Cant really defend dualing for nothing, idk what they were thinking there
I think Bowser time could have been refined a bit more but I feel like it could also add a good amount of shakeup every few turns, though when it was just a 20 coin picture it wasnt so great. I assume they added more chaos to make up for no chance time, and while I agree chance time should exist I dont think it not existing brings down the game when there are other systems in place that can just as easily shake things up. Plus it makes up for bowser spaces being less frequent at the start of maps, (Along with just, Koopa Kid Spaces existing, which can have pretty game changing effects, especially on boards where you wanna control WHEN specifically you want arrive somewhere, like Pagoda, Windmillville, and Pyrmid Park)
I think Windmillville is a far better version of what followed in 8, it mixing that gimmick with the ever changing paths, making controlling your movement and where you were on the board very important, the version in 8 is a little barebones too, with some of the better things also being based on either luck or controlling movment, I think while they are both simple I prefer the feel of windmill. Also I just dont like the feel of 8 in general, and much prefer 7 and its item system, though its probably my least favorite map in the game still
I don't really have anything to say for the minigames in neon hights, because its such a non issue to me, it adds time but its not really enough for me to care, I really like the vibe of the board and with the gimmick you end up spending a lot of money, so having those extra games to earn money helps there along with fitting with the theme of the board.
The bowser phone being random in this one shows a fear of chaos
3 didnt care, 3 had the wacky watch, probably the coolest item in all of mario party
@@scotsoulgem I miss the wacky watch so much... Such a funny item
Thank you Big Garf, very cool.

@@biggarffan37 I wish you could explain how you feel about the Super line of games
@@guyfierimtwi he has a video ranking all mario party videos and he doesn't really like the original super
Minigames: It's actually roughly comparable to most games in the series, with only a couple games having more in the main mode.
i can't think of many examples besides maybe star rush and the original super.
@@mrpiccionedivino5598 MP1, MP4, and MP7 also roughly had the same number of minigames in the main board gameplay as Jamboree.
I appreciate the reply and perspective :)
GARF ON TOP AH VIDEO
This guy hates every new Mario game to exist
Not true! In the past year I’ve loved the RPG Remakes and Mario Wonder (excited for Brothership as well). On the switch in general Odyssey and Mario Maker 2 are great! I also pretty explicitly state in this video that I do not hate Jamboree, I just have issues with it :)
He just like me frfr
i hate this guy... lets make an anti big garf fan community....
This guy is so butthurt about a RUclipsrs takes like 5 comments about
Maybe if you didn’t needlessly force yourself to stream this game for 24 hours straight, you would’ve liked and appreciated it more for what it is and the problems wouldn’t have annoyed you as much as they did.
You really should reword the tiers on that tier list because this game and MP7 are *not* “Mid”.
u shouldn’t be so mad about an opinion to write a book about it
Him playing the game for that long helped to show how weak the game is in almost all aspects. Quantity over Quality at its finest.
@@coasterplay1062 If that’s all it takes for you to hate a MP game then I don’t know what to tell you.
The only pink girl character people care about in mario party other than peach and pom pom.
I have her Yoshi, Mario, Bowser, and koopa kid as my mains in the series oh and daisy (3-5)
Just give us more customization options, no one is asking for random side modes. Stop the random side modes and let us fully customize the main mode and it would be the best Mario party.
“No one is asking for random side modes”
Bruh, random side modes have been a thing in Mario Party since MP3.
This trully was a jamboree moment
Are all mini games available to play when not playing the board game ?
Yes, you can go to Minigame Bay and play all of the game’s minigames there.

I geniuenly dont understand what happened to the pacing it was honestly really good in superstars, but maybe just maybe they will give us an update.
One of the more disappointing things tbh. It felt like they really figured it out with Superstars, that game feels so snappy. Idk why they would revert to slowing it down.
@@biggarffan37 Because not everyone cares about that stuff as much as you do. The world doesn’t revolve around you.
