I think Origami King is probably the better game, but it being the 3rd game in a row with the same issues really grated on the whole experience for me. Sticker Star tried something new and it didn't work out, CS and OK doubled down on those issues which I find way more annoying.

@@biggarffan37 I know it's your opinion, but it's best to look at those games objectively. Just because it is annoying that Color Splash and Origami King have the same issues as Sticker Star doesn't make them worse games. Origami King is definitely the best of the three, and I guess you could argue that Color Splash is the worst if you wanted to. I do think the ring battle system is stupid, and I dislike it the most out of all games. But it's not that much worse than Sticker Star or Color Splash. I grew up with the newer games, but I think the first trilogy is the best. I like Color Splash, but it's mostly out of nostalgia. No, you're not being gaslit about Origami King, it has it's merits and deserves significantly more respect.
it's probably futile to argue, as many of these merits are just swept under the rug, but here goes:
First of all, and this is the only thing that made me legitimately angry, is the complete omission of Bobby and Olivia from the discussion. The fact that the whole segment already dismissed most positives of the game, followed by not even mentioning these characters at all, makes the segment feel almost disingenuous.
Bobby is just such a charming character, it was nice seeing him initially trying to remember his old memories in Chapter 2 before accepting it and enjoying his new memories. And when he actually does remember, he uses those memories to help save Olivia from the rock. While on the boat, he relives his tale of seeing all of his friends die to the blooper, and explaining that Bob-ombs don't have a long lifespan, so they need to value what they have, its another one of those moments that invokes the style of old Paper Mario. Then he sacrifices himself in one of the most shocking and emotional moments in the series. Bear in mind that this is the first and currently only character in the Mario franchise to die on-screen and then have the characters dwell on it. (Also, I preemptively reject the argument that Bobby's character falls flat because he is a generic Bob-omb, Tippi is a butterfly that can barely even emote, yet she is still a great character)
As for Olivia, while at times she does feel like Kersti 3.0 or Heuey 2.0, but unlike those two, she has a role in the story and an actual arc. It's subtle, but it's definitely there, especially after Bobby's death. As the game progresses, she gets noticeably more mature, you can especially see this at the end of the game.
The chapters of the game are NOT just "We need thing there, lets-a-go". Chapters 3-5 follow a plotline of an ancient civilization. Chapter 3 introduces the concept, and a character researching it, Chapter 4 sees you getting help from one of the ancient people to sail the seas and find a way to the old city itself in Chapter 5. Plus, Chapter 5 leads into Chapter 6 as you save bowser and use his airship to reach Olly's castle. The end of Chapter 2/Beginning of Chapter 3 has you taking a detour to the ocean to help Bobby save Olivia. There's nuance here.
The thing about the battle system is that it's SUPPOSED to be a puzzle. Strategy isn't necessarily required when it's missing the point. Should it have included a little bit of classic Paper Mario battling? Totally. The boss fights, especially the Vellumentals, are proof that you can still have strategy in this primarily puzzle-based system. But the problem with most of the system's criticism is that you don't have to fight every enemy, the fact that you don't get exp actually works to the game's advantage. Heck, there's even a stealth gadget to help with this! As for the problem with not being able to defeat enemies in a single turn, assuming you've kept up with weapons and collected a decent amount of health upgrades, defeating all enemies in one go isn't too difficult so long as you line them up properly for the attack boost. Though this doesn't apply to all enemies, Bro's come to mind. Having the system be "Even slower than the previous two games" doesn't really matter since the previous two games pretty much only amounts to "have the right tool for the job" and has pretty much no depth at all.
As for story, I'm not even going to try to argue that it's better than TTYD or Super. I do think one could argue that it beats out 64 with it's emotion alone, but i disagree with that notion, personally. Nevertheless, its infinitely better than the previous two games. While the plot itself isn't anything to write home about for the most part, the storytelling of characters and world are really good. Aside from the characters I mentioned and the ones you praised, I think the Legion of Stationery are pretty well characterized, The Professor and Captain T. Ode are decent, Bowser is pretty clearly the same character from the first 3 games, and Olly is a pretty good villain, as well as a hilarious parody of the particularly bitter Paper Mario fans who won't acknowledge the love and care put into this game. They also actually do something with the "Paper" part of the game. Origami isn't a frivolous gimmick that could be swapped out for anything else like the Stickers or Paint could, it actually does things with the plot and is actually a core part of Olly's motivations. Circling back to the Legion of Stationery, they way that they can change, scar, or deform the characters around them can be legitimately unnerving, and is much better executed than just sucking color out of people in Color Splash. For example: while you could _technically_ have a living pair of scissors cut a major character into confetti in any other Paper Mario game, it makes sense here because scissors are an Origami crafting tool, one of the very tools that made Olly in the first place. You described the "personality" of this game as just "quippy one liners" and while I agree that it is certainly it's strength, there ale a good amount of moments that invoke the feels of the original trilogy like what I just listed, with the only chapter that I think is completely devoid of anything of substance being Chapter 4. You can't say that about the previous games at all, they have practically nothing.
Another strength Origami King has is, and I'll say it, the overworld and general exploration aspect of the game is the best in the series. I don't think there's much argument there, but I'm just throwing it out.
My closing thoughts are that Origami King is sort of the 3D World of the Paper Mario series; clearly inferior to the greats, but it has strengths and is undoubtedly a good game. So many of it's good aspects are either ignored or have some sort of bullshit excuse to call it bad. I thought people would give it a second chance after TTYD got remade, or at least would have some appreciation towards it's aforementioned strengths, and I will continue to hope that maybe a new entry in the traditional style will open people's eyes. I at least expect the wit and exploration of the game to be carried over to the next. Overall, Origami King deserves so much more respect, it may not be a return to form, but it brings so many things back to the table and adds so much that simply dismissing it as "Sticker Star 3" is nothing short of disrespectful. Thank you for reading.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the perspective.
I didn’t mention Bobby and Olivia because I personally did not find them very notable. Olivia was fun and quirky, and Bobby did not hit the same as he did for other people. (I think mainly because I know that his death is ultimately a product of bizarre restrictions against having a party) similarly the rest of the story didn’t do a lot to surprise me. This wasn’t me trying to dismiss the games good aspects I just genuinely did not see this as a strength.
The battle system should have strategy imo! It bothers me that normal encounters in this game all feel the same, it generally doesn’t really matter what enemy you’re encountering as you rearrange them the same regardless. The puzzle aspect of it would be cooler if there were more interesting variations, and it being repetitive AND slow AND pointless really don’t help. Saying avoiding a core system of the game is a strength is a little silly, because why was it designed to feel like a chore in the first place? I will say that some of the boss fights and their gimmicks are pretty fun and I totally forgot to mention that in the script.
I want to also just say that I don’t “dismiss this game as Sticker Star 3” and that I genuinely went into it wanting to like it. There are just a lot of fundamental flaws that have been known issues for 12 years and a lot of flaws that wreak of arbitrary restrictions. For everything in this game that is “good” I wonder about how it could’ve been better if the team was just allowed to make what they wanted. There’s a lot of half steps “in the right direction” but what even is the “right direction”? Back to where we were 17 years ago? Is that something worth praising?
I’m glad you enjoy that game, but that does not mean everyone else has to.

Id personally love to see a remastered Super Paper Mario with the TTYD remake treatment, giving it updated grapjics and music. Id die right then and there if they announced it because boy... it has the best story hands diwn and Count Blecky-boy and his crew are some of the best... if not the greatest... team of nintendo villains ever created. Super just did such a great job of creating new and wacky worlds... new dimensions so different from another, and made the heroes seem like aliens traversing through all the diversity. I really hope the next paper mario will continue this and have more crazy stories and unique character designs with a levlling up/exp system(whether it be super paper mario style or turned based combat... please make fighting enemies worthwhile)... with bursting creativity (The ttyd remake proves their reason for not being allowed to have diverse characters and stories was utter bullshit and that gives them no reason to returj to sticker star formula whatsoever) and. Combined with the massive open world in origami king filled with uniwu3 characters, and big-band music... we can have a freaking game that will be on the level of the original three, and maybe even better if it combines all the things we loved about paper mario to make it. I rewlly hope they make one with dope music and an interesting story 😊

Weirdly enough, by far the best attempt at a paper-themed gimmick to spice up the combat comes from Paper Jam. In that game, Paper Mario has a "copy" mechanic, where he can make copies of himself that he stacks up. This increases his attack potency and lets him take more hits, but he has to spend a turn replacing his copies if he gets hit too much. Otherwise, his attacks are too underpowered. I think this works a lot better, and fits pretty nicely into the existing combat system instead of throwing the core formula out the window.

  • @morphstarchangeling8024

I made a nice comparison for the games. They're like an old family recipe.
Paper mario is the original recipe. They caught lightning in a bottle. The building blocks of long standing game franchise.
TTYD is someone improving the recipe making it better in the ways everyone enjoyed from the original.
SPM took a risk and made a new recipe but they kept some of the core ingredients that made the original so good.
Sticker Star lost the original recipe and started something completely new that came out underbaked and foul.
Color Splash attempted to improve SS's recipe but only came out with it looking visually pleasing.
TOK made a completely new recipe, but didn't learn from the mistakes made by others. The changes they did make made it more appealing to it's own audiences.
TTYD Remake is the newest member of the family, and found the TTYD recipe and made improvements on it where needed.
The next member of the family has 20+ years of history to look back on and their future is uncertain, but their future is a lot brighter than those that came before it.

We want a great world to explore that feels like Mario doesn't belong.

    • @thegreenthunder2
      @thegreenthunder2 5 месяцев назад +3

Exactly! The first three did such a great job of creating new and exciting areas where Mario was so out of place. Like the second Mario steps into rogueport, it's just madness and mayhem, and every location is something you'd never expect. Super literally only had one toad in the beginning, and aside from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and the minions.... every other character in the game was an original. Literally every chapter in super was a different dimension with different unique designs and stories, all connecting to the main one seamlessly through our heroes, but mainly our cast of villains. Count Bleck and his team are my favorite villains in all of paper mario, he'll, are some of the greatest nintendo villains created. Super proved we can have Mind-controlled Bowser minions, but they can co-exist with new and exciting characters with exciting stories. While I love color splash and Origami king for what they were on their own, I really hope the next game will follow in the steps of The original three in terms of story, character designs, and combat, and follow with the later games extremely open world exploring and big band music like origami king. If the two series can merge together in those aspects, we may be looking at one of the best, if not, a paper mario game that will outclass ttyd

I think going forward a newer Paper Mario game needs to include specific elements from EVERY game. I think the best way to make older fans and newer fans happy is to find a middle ground (Which is definitely hard with the genre switch up midway through the series). I think a new game would need:
    1. Like stated in the video, RPG combat like in the first 2 games, as it gives you something to work towards compared to later combat in later entries.
    2. Interesting characters and setting would help tremendously! I think so many people believe that OK is closer to a return to form because it tries to change things up a little within the character department.
    3. An interesting story goes a long way. Super is my favorite Paper Mario game even though it doesn’t incorporate some elements of the first 2 games, and that’s generally because of the characters and storyline being so interesting and always keeping you on your toes.
    4. Take what’s great, leave what many people hated. I really enjoy the newer games art galleries and music a lot. There’s definitely elements to them that just add so much flavor. However, that isn’t to say they’re without their flaws. A new Paper Mario games should incorporate everything in a manageable way to where it blends perfectly and creates a wonderfully weird game with something every can enjoy.

    Ideas for a ttyd successor
Badges: Some new ones that can apply special side effects to your attacks. Fire flower, Hammer suit, Cape Feather
Upgrade badges: Some badges oughta be upgradeable and have better attack power and new properties too
Challenges: more in depth and difficult than put of 100 trials. And every set of challenges done rewards you something great and different
Upgradeable badges: Some badges like said can be upgraded to newer better badges
    Examples:
Quake Hammer to power quake then mega quake
Fire Drive Upgraded to blaze drive then inferno drive
Power bounce jump and smash to mega bounce jump and smash.
And the badges would still cost the same fp and bp. But getting said upgrades would be specific and difficult to gain requirements.
    Speaking of...
Three badges in particular to add more to your fight style
Fire flower: Adds fire properties to all of Mario's attacks. Also causing burn to enemies. Some moves that were already fire based are now double in damage and can also damage and burn armored and fire enemies.
Hammer suit: Adds hammer properties to attacks and hammer attacks are now thrown. Some moves that were already hammer based can ignore targets' defense
Cape feather: Adds air priority to all attacks, also ups attack of jump moves by 2. Moves that are jump attacks hit multiple enemies at once
Paper aesthetic level: Keep it at the same level as Thousand Year Door. That amount is just right. Not too much or too little.
Animations of characters: smooth and fluid like Thousand Year door and no white borders around the characters.
Paper aesthetic: To be on the same level as Thousand Year Door. That's just the right amount. The latest games went too overboard with the paper theme. (The GameCube version. Not the switch version.)
Star artifacts: the new special moves
Star Boots: Let Mario attack twice per turn with limited uses
Star Cloak: Automatically evade a set number of enemy attacks
Star Armor: upgrade attack and defense for a few turns. (like power lift)
Star Sword: Attack all enemies with a sword slash
Star Shield: Create a barrier around yourself and your partner like koops' shell shield
Star Helmet: uses random status ailments on enemies (Not sure. Might change this one.)
    Star Crown: Reduce fp usage

Great burp & great video! I can tell you have a lot of knowledge & passion about this series. Super is one of my favorite games of all time (that may just be nostalgia talking, but I do love the story & characters), I loved playing through the original Paper Mario on the Wii U eshop, and Sticker Star was alright for what it was (although looking back on it does ZERO favors lol). I never touched Color Splash or Origami King because of the awful reviews and I didn't want to get burned again by this series I used to love. I fondly remember playing the intro (and a bit into the first chapter) of Thousand Year Door over and over again when I was really young at a GameCube kiosk with no save card at my mom's workplace, and that's really stuck with me. I don't usually preorder games, but I knew I had to for this one. I hope beyond all hope that we get entries more in line with the original trilogy than the sequel trilogy. Someone made a Star Wars comparison with the Paper Mario series and I find it to be somewhat scarily accurate - hopefully the quality doesn't suffer the same fate.

I can't believe an ABANDONED AMUSEMENT PARK, OCEAN AND DESERT feel empty, wow.
all of your criticism towards origami king is valid, of course, but the level design? it's just...OBJECTIVELY better than what came from TTYD, where it's just hallway city that is somehow worse than what came from Paper Mario 64. The desert and ocean are more of connective threads to each point of interest in the area (being the islands in the purple streamer, for exemple), and the points of interest have a much grander, more complex and more interesting level design than TTYD at the very least. Color Splash would probably feel more like an direct evolution of TTYD's level design if it wasn't level based, but whatever.
You can have origami king as your least favorite game (but it makes me wonder why color splash is lower), but if you really think it's one of the WORST games you ever played, you genuinely need to play more games. It's a bit hypocritical to say "all opinions on the modern games are valid" while also stating that you feel gaslighted when people say origami king is good.

    • @biggarffan37
      @biggarffan37  4 месяца назад +2

While origami king definitely has more involved level design than TTYD, what I was getting at in that section was that the emptiness makes the chapters really uninteresting and forgettable to me on a narrative/aesthetic level. There are no real conflicts to resolve, few characters to meet, no real driving force beyond “follow the streamer”. Even if the level design in Twilight Town, for example, is relatively simple, I still enjoy it way more as a chapter than something like the desert streamer, because it has all of these elements that make it feel like it’s own unique story. This is why I talk about enjoying Shangri-Spa; it almost feels out of place compared to the other chapters in that game.
I definitely exaggerated Origami King being one of the worst games I’ve ever played (not Color Splash though), but it is definitely one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever played, because of a bunch of really odd and nonsensical design decisions that just pile up and wear on the whole thing.

@@biggarffan37 narratively? yeah, i guess i can understand. origami king is a very "move by the motions" game where you just do stuff and explore, the overarching story is fairly simple.
Aesthetically? big disagree. a violet desert at night where the sun was removed form the sky, a gorgeous asian inspired mountain at autumn with a theme park with several attractions, a sea adventure with a giant secret underwater island and a giant tower in the middle of the ocean...hell, even the first chapter is fairly unique by "grassy first chapter" standards, with a temple built for a earth elemental deity and a tall, modern-looking tower for the main dungeon. I do agree that TTYD probably is more unique with its locations, but origami king is honestly a bit more unique than pm64 at that department (i would take the aesthetic of sandpaper desert over dry dry desert any day of the week, and i adore pm64)

The commitment to paper gimmicks over aesthetic would be like if Super Mario Bros 3 had the end of world boss be the set director instead of a koopaling. I don't get how they can fundamentally miss the point so bad. The paper gimmicks in TTYD or Super are addendums, they add to the gameplay but they are not the gameplay on their own. They are not the story on their own. It's as story told through papercraft, not a story about papercraft. You bring up an interesting point breaking the two eras of paper mario into their own trilogies. It seems like coming off of this remake Paper Mario almost has to land somewhere closer to TTYD than Sticker Star 4, after all TTYD is the game that they just spent presumably 4 years developing on the 4 year pattern that's been established since Color Splash. Hell I say if its something new, as long as the creativity, strong characters and worldbuilding, and strategic rpg gameplay return in some form I consider that a win. I dont think the next game is going to directly iterate on ttyd's combat down to the level of having stylish moves, crystal star attacks, and the audience getting involved, but I do think its likely that we'll see a return of exp, non consumable attacks, partners, and possibly even badges. Origami King even paid lip service to those mechanics which indicates that even in 2020 the paper mario devs knew how much people wanted all of those things. I think the next game is likely to be some kinda half evolution of ttyd, stepping up to be the grand rpg return for the series that should've been made all the way back on the wii. What else could it be? Only other route I see is cutting the battle system entirely but I don't see that happening after Origami King and Color Splash both tried (and failed) to get closer to what people wanted out of turn based combat. There's only so many ways you can make an rpg without making an rpg, why not give experience points and the like a try again?

Did u hear that they got the director of the first 3 paper Mario games back for the TTYD Remake? Ryota Kawade is his name, he hasn't been around since Super Paper Mario, since then Kensuke Tanabe had been the director of the modern Paper Marios and was mostly responsible for reinventing the turn based combat and making it flawed because of his desire to create new and innovate experiences to surprise players. This time however, Tanabe wasn't involved at all with the TTYD Remake. If Kawade continues to stick around, I think it's safe to assume that Paper Mario will go back to it's roots, the remake could very well act as a soft reboot for the series, especially considering how faithful it is to the original down to nearly every last detail.

Never played Sticker Star and probably never will, but I enjoyed Color Splash enough, no desire to play through it again though, it got very quickly repetitive, it did probably have one of the funniest scripts though, though none of the npcs were actually memerable due to being generic toads. And nothing but...
Origami King I actually enjoyed more, I even liked the combat system more. Primarily because since it was more of a puzzle, I felt they went by much quicker, though still no real reason to do them. And also a much more decent story as well. I liked it.
I still very much prefer the original games though.

While Origami King certainly has room for improvement, I would not rank it low.
I think something that was missed is that there was another Mario RPG series while these games were coming out - the Mario and Luigi series. With that one getting the RPG game play, the Paper Mario series was trying different things. But with the M&L series apparently ended, then maybe Paper Mario can get back to its roots. I suppose it depends on how well Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door do in sales.

If they decide to do a remake of Super Paper Mario in the future, what new name should they give it? It's just that I think the new generation may think Super Paper Mario sounds like a generic title.

I care so much about this series... but I haven't played a single game. I played the first one for a few hours on virtual console, but that's it.
I guess it's mostly because TTYD was so hard to get for the longest time, I didn't want to spend twice a regular games price on online auctions. SPM is great but not my thing, and the rest I decided were not worth my money.

Every complaint you have about the recent three games is how I feel about Super Paper Mario. Paper Mario was incredible to me as a kid, TTYD was amazing, and Super Paper Mario came out when I was in high school and it was my first real disappointment buying a game. I only got a few hours in. I loved the combat, that's what made Paper Mario for me, the story was incredible too, but I loved going from point A to point B just as much as getting more story. Super Paper Mario was just boring to me without any engaging combat. I haven't even thought about the series since then, when I've seen the most recent games get so much criticism, it just made sense to me since they took such a huge step back with Super Paper Mario. I know the consensus today is that there is an original trilogy, but there isn't for me, it's the first two games then whatever you want to call everything after. I played through Paper Mario 64 before the remake came out and it still held up (as did the Super Mario RPG which I played for the first time with the remake), and I tried Super again before the remake came out, but it was still a chore and I didn't get more than a few hours again before I realized it still wasn't any good.
I honestly can't see myself giving the series another shot until they at least try to go back to the combat of the first two games. I'd take TTYD with a different story and iterate by giving a huge amount of badges and some partner move customization or something. There doesn't need to be anything different, Mario as a platformer has worked since the 80s, Pokemon has worked since the 90s, Zelda worked since the 80s (until BotW, but that was the logical step in the Zelda series), and RPGs have worked since the 80s. I hope the success of the TTYD remake will make them realize the formula still works.

OK. So like. Color Splash is my favorite Paper Mario game of all time. I haven't played TTYD but CS still ended up beating the OG 64 and TOK for me personally. And I also liked the battle system in Color Splash. And didn't care about lack of story or partners. You know why? Because I see Color Splash as an ACTION-ADVENTURE game.
I didn't feel like any of that was necessary; the humor was enough to keep pushing me forwards even in some of the worse sections of the game. It didn't feel heartfelt... because I don't think it NEEDED to be heartfelt. I just came in for a cute adventure where you paint the world and AS a game where you paint the world and go through levels it's actually pretty decent at that. I don't think that for a game like Paper Mario Color Splash, it needs some massive story. All it needed was something to push you forwards and maybe a funny guy to follow you around; and for me it succeeded in holding and keeping my attention. Would it have been NICE for it to be more than what it seems? Maybe, but I hate judging games for what it "could have been" but for what they are.
And I'm immediately retracting that statement because if there's ONE thing that TTYD doesn't have over CS, it's level design. Sure, you can say that Color Splash has a bad battle system and a bad story and a bad what have you, but I don't think anyone can say that Color Splash (and I guess Origami King as well) has worse level design without being very, very, incredibly biased towards the battle systems. Which is fair, but I think the fact that I currently feel more inclined to play and walk through the locations of Color Splash again than start playing TTYD's Rougeport and seven parallel lines says at least something about what Paper Mario Color Splash does right.
And like... TOK isn't my favorite game in the least but you gotta give it at least some credit for still maintaining interesting level design and actually having an attempt at story? A goal to work towards? An evil that ISN'T Bowser? Interesting character development that spans over multiple of the game's chapters? For as much as TOK drops the ball with its actually bad "battle system" and requirements, its main goal isn't the battling; it's going all over the place and exploring; something that it does decently in some areas, and very well in others!
To me, comparing Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King to the original games is... kinda foolhardy. Because that's not what they were intended to be. All three are intended to be action-adventure games where you go all over the place, find the things you need to progress, do optional challenges that makes a funny number go up, and have something to push you forwards. If you regard the rest of the games like THAT, then I feel Color Splash and Origami King succeed. Sticker Star still trips and fails spectacularly though.
Finally, I felt the original Paper Mario 64 felt like a bunch of levels too. Sure, they were LONGER levels but idk I kinda see "when you get to the new area" as the "next level." Like say for the first chapter; Level 1-1 is Toad Town and the leadup to Koopa Village, level 1-2 is getting Kooper and seeing the fortress for the first time, level 1-3 is getting bombette and beating the guards, and so on. I might be missing a LOT here considering I didn't play TTYD but from what I saw it also seems like it's segmented in a similar way. You do something, that leads to a different area in the next something that may or may not feel thematically different from the last one, then do it again, then see and get the plot Mcguffin. Just that TTYD has more required backtracking in the OG game. I don't really see this as a bad thing; I actually like short, contained adventures like that!

I appreciate the comment and the perspective.
I think my biggest problem with Color Splash and Origami King being “action adventure” games is that the slow and clunky combat in both of those games really hamper the pacing. It’s why at the end of the video a suggest more real time combat stuff for future games.
As I said in the video I really struggle to remember a lot of the levels in that game. Whether it be because the battle system bogged down my enjoyment of them or I actually didn’t enjoy them I can’t exactly say. I do think that regardless of the design of the levels they still didn’t feel like “locations” to me, just self contained dots on a map. Which is what I think the chapters in the first trilogy do really well. A place like twilight town, regardless of level design, is distinct and memorable because of the unique aesthetics and narrative of the chapter.
I think Origami King might have made some baby steps towards what I wanted, but I don’t think I have to give it credit when those steps feel half baked and performative. I wanted to like Origami King, I actually played it this year after seeing a lot of people speak fondly of it. But the issues piled up and really bugged me throughout.
Lastly I just want to say that I’m not trying to change opinions here, I’m glad you enjoy Color Splash, and I think it’s cool to see a different perspective on the game. This video was mainly just me wanting to talk about this series because it means a lot to me, and I just kinda vented a lot of frustrations I had with the last 12 years of games.

@@biggarffan37 I agree with both of you. If the last three games had a better battle system, original characters, and partners, I think they would have been many times better. I used to really like the new games (except for Sticker Star, that one was very bad) and defend them until I played TTYD. And let me just say. It's MUCH better. Now, I do still like those games. But I didn't realize what I was missing with TTYD the whole time. I hope the next game is able to make fans of both trilogies happy. However, some parts of me don't even know what I want from it anymore.

Before we get any new Paper Mario game, Nintendo HAS TO complete the OG trilogy and remake both Paper Mario 64 and Super Paper Mario with the same treatment TTYD got (HD graphics and remastered music). That would be a dream come true!!! I would MUCH rather buy those two games at full price than be inevitably disappointed by a new Paper Mario game (I gave up hope after Origami King…)

    Before really watching the video:
I kinda feel bad for the Modern Paper Mario fans right now. Like, they may be in the verge of losing their series just like it happened to Old Paper Mario fans back then. Either way, one of the two is gonna end up losing. No way they can make something that appeals to both, as they both want extremely different things.
Regardless, I have my own hunch regarding the future of Mario RPGs: Old Paper Mario may not be returning regardless. Neither Mario & Luigi. Instead, these surveys they're putting out, and this string of rereleases, may actually tell us that they're looking for intel on what people like the most in Mario RPGs, so they can give us something entirely new. A completely new Mario RPG series, with everything people like the most of every Mario RPG before, be it Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, or even Mario + Rabbids. Then they may continue with the Paper Mario series as it currently is now. Whether all Mario RPG fans of all series would be satisfied with this is hard to say, but I'd be genuinely interested to know what this entirely new thing could be like.
