- Eric Johnson plays "Forty Mile Town" on the Ah Via Musicom Anniversary Tour at the City National Grove at Anaheim on 1/25/18. The show was split up into two separate sets, the first being a traditional mix of tunes, many from his latest excellent album "Collage," together with great covers and some of his best tracks. The second set was his landmark "Ah Via Musicom" album in its entirety. Stellar performances by Eric, Tommy Taylor on drums and Kyle Brock on bass.

I love Eric! This is my favorite song of his ever.
I live in Kansas ...a true forty mile town state. I get a little teary every time I hear this song.
One of those songs that brings the feeling of a great dream into reality
January 2022 and I still come back once in a while to watch this masterpiece of Eric Johnson. The cleanest guitar tone in the history of music.
the type of chord voicings he does while singing is kinda insane lol. He makes the stretches look way easier than they actually are
He's a bit more alien then we are with the the finger stretching.
Sounds better than ever
Reminds me of sailing....so smooth.
the chordal structure is noteworthy and surreal.
I laugh they are regular chords. The rest of us don't know how to use em bro including me Peace
What a great song he is awesome I love Eric
One of my favorite Eric Johnson song’s, thanks for the great vid… 👍🏽
What a beautiful song.
I saw him tonight after becoming a fan in 1980, after his work on the first Christopher Cross album. You can't help but stand in awe of this guy and his band. They did not disappoint!
I love the way he wrote this song, it’s so perfect
Perfection
Definitely one of his most polished performances
The best
I touch myself to that clean tone
Between his tone, chord voicing, guitar effects and his skill at playing, Eric just blows me away!! This is a very difficult song to play, much less play great and sing at the same time! Guess that's why he makes the big bucks lol
A cool song, sung from the heart🤗😃♥️💙😊❤️
Love this song & you Johnson. xo
love love love this song Eric!!!
Sounds like a CD it's so awesome and a perfect performance.. Amazing EJ and what a tone 🎸🔥
Groovalicious Ej tones. Thank you very much for posting.
good song. just saw him in greensburg, pa. This song sounded awesome live
1:49 "That boy's fingers are going everywhere, man." 😁
Bootleg recording but the performance still manages to shine through. He's still able to deliver the same quality as when he recorded it.
How does he make it look so effortless??
Great video-incredible song…always wonder if he wrote this on the piano because the chord voicings are so complex. And to think EJ plays this live and then can sing over this. So impressive-thanks for sharing your work!!!
Can't to see them in Philly in a couple of weeks. The best indeed!
wasnt he at Keswick theatre?
Yes they were, that's were I went to see them. Great night.
One of EJ's most underrated songs.
My Top 5 EJ songs of all-time
Cliffs of Dover
Manhattan
When the Sun meets the Sky
Forty Mile Town

What's yours?
To the widgets yapping incessantly in the background...they have no clue they're watching a GOD making music for the angels...
I love Eric Johnson! But you know, Kyle Brock and Tommy Taylor are amazing as well! It's annoying to me that all these videos focus on Eric and it's as though he's the only one on the stage, but he's not. Try panning around a bit maybe.
1:19 That part is pure sex
Song a man and woman sing staring in each other's eyes
What the hell is that chord he plays as a one? (spider fingers required)
@Dave Davidson Think it's either x10x9x8 or a 8xxx58
@@fo8688
Thanks. I though it might be something like that with possibly another note. It looks like hi 3 and 4 fingers are where the barre chord would go across and the 1 and 2 fingers are closer to the headstock.
@@davedavidson9996 at what time in the clip is it most visible? I might get a better look
@@fo8688 Something like 0:49-0:50 . It is the first part of the main hook of the verse which is like 6 separate parts. I think it is essentially a I chord i.e. whatever key he is in. right before he sings ' I got a way.."
@@davedavidson9996 yeah, I know that sequence. What he plays is
8xxx58, then a
xx57x7, then a finger stretcher,
xx3753.
Second time 'round, it's
8xxx58,
xx57x7 and
xx3750 (or just mute the high E).
Ok, I can only do maybe 5 chords but forget the rest. You need a middle finger thats like 7" long to play the remaining chords clean to the end😲 more stretching than Mayers Neon..😖
Talking in the middle of a song is the most disrespectful thing you can do. Why even show up at that point?
