The instruments and setuo is soooo simple but it works so well with the phrasing of the lyrics..si cool
Amazing demo versions, I hope he will publish them all as he promised!
Amazing! Sounds like Ants Invasion and Picasso, etc. as if done on Dirk. WOW WOW WOW.
Bow Wow Wow
Adam on Stylophone at 3.10?? His demos/unreleased songs are more fascinating than the ones he put out officially....
More Adam Ant songs? When i heard Punk In The Supermarket on YT a few years back, i thought " that's it. The final discovery". Pre Kings he'd enough lyrics and arrangements for three punk style lps, not just Dirk. Btw Picasso from Prince Charming seems related to Ligotage.
Correct ! Well done ! Adam lifts a lot of stuff / ideas and reworked them into his later stuff !
Adams' earliest 4 track recordings Demos although very HISSY are worth a listen to !
Also heard an early version of "don't be square, be there" on this playlist.
This was an entire album worth of 9 songs inbetween Dirk and Kings from late 1979 (post Andy and during Matthew's break from the band.) It was too outrageously soul/funk/disco for DO IT who rejected the songs for a possible Adam Ant solo album in 1980 to follow Dirk.
The project got scrapped entirely when Adam got together with Malcolm McLaren and did the whole pirate/tribal thing instead (while also doing to NY Eve Electric Ballroom gig as a temporary holding pattern and fan appreciation night to keep the Antpeople on board and a fundraiser to pay Malcy's fee. Ants mk1 died in spirit after the two Sept '79 Electric Ballroom shows and the firing of Andy and Math on Oct 1st).
I managed to get Punk In the Supermarket on a cassette trade way back in 1992. Didn't know it remained so stealth. Love that song, so funny and perfectly English.
That first one's interesting, appears to be based on David Lynch's Eraserhead
these versions are amazing
"Killer" sounds a bit Police-like with its reggae rhythm section and post-punk sensibility / Andy Summers guitars.
It got rewritten into Navel To Neck from the Strip album.
Thanks for posting!!
You can hear James White influences all over this.
This was around the same time as James White / Jim Chance's stuff - listen to Teenage Jesus and the Jerks - Lydia Lunch anyone !!! These DEMO's are a more up to date compilation , better recorded versions of the disparate older demos that Adam had made himself with the help of his friends in his flat on a 4 track machine he bought with gigging money from Bazooka Joe: )
@@nickrog6759 James White and Adam were both listening to the same 70s soul/funk records. Adam would have already known the originals rather than draw influence via JW/
no i cant
Thank you
Please, please,... Love this! Please send me demo's !!!! Thanks, thanks, thanks 1000.000x!!
I would also love copies of these too please.
Is it just Adam and Dave Barbe?
ooohhhh cool :)
Mice in freefall !!!
These sgs demos are great! I'd love to get them on cd, can i pay or trade! PLEASE!
One track has actually been released (Omlette From Outer Space) and four others can ben found in full elsewhere on RUclips (Secret Art, Killer, Picasso and Henry & His Baby). The other four tracks remain unleaked (Spell It To The Marines, Violin Fights, The Man Who Got His Hair Cut Shiort and the completed full-lyrics version of Mice In Freefall). The instrumental version of Mice on here was recorded at a rehearsal stusio in Camden a few days earlier than the main SGS session.
So Dirk!
Better than Dirk. Dirk was meant to be soul/funk/dance but came out as minimalist proto-indie but on here the groove is undeniable.
What does SGS mean?
IT is an in Joke - STUART GODDARD STUDIOS - SGS : )
Who ? Work that one out yourself ; P
@@nickrog6759 Solid Gold Studios in London
Use the older version of Freecorder 4 to make these mp3's.
I'd like to have these too, plz.
Is Marco on guitar?
clintbronson5 1979 is pre Marco
Definitely before Marcos time
Wonder if Adam or Andrew Warren is on bass. But was Ants Invasion really from '79? Think i have the demo on the Antbox . @@denniswilkinson6286
It was called Omelette from outer space, at the time
@@Kelly14UK The bass player is Adam. Lee Gorman was hired shortly after, initially just as a live bassist.
