  • Footage uncovered from the National Highways archives shows the construction of the Queen Elizabeth II bridge between 1988 and 1991. To this day, it is still the only bridge across the Thames east of London since Tower Bridge opened in 1894.

    Love this! My older brother did an art/photography GCSE and his coursework involved photos of this being built, I remember going down to the Kent side and you could walk right by it and look up, it was all fields then!

    I watched this bridge built. It was an awesome sight to see it constructed and crossed it on the very first day. I can see the QE2 bridge from my home in Bexleyheath.

    Believe it is stated that after it had paid for itself in toll fees then it would be free after…..

      Le crossing Bon voyage….. wonder if there’s any promises that they won’t sell the new tunnel to the French so they can hold their hands up and say your being charged because of that?
