Injuries and getting traded to bad teams twice (once for Sam freaking Bradford, once back when Wentz was still considered the future) derailed his career. He would've had a much better career otherwise. Maybe not HOF good but similar to Flacco I think. Exactly.. pains me to admit it as a Dallas fan but he won 3 SBs with 3 different QBs within a decade Didnt enjoy watching that growing up hahaha but seriously Joe Gibbs really proved his coaching prowess
Three different running backs too. He had an excellent offensive line, a Hall of Fame receiver, and built around that. Those quarterbacks played well, but the fact remains, he had to work with multiple of them to get his championships. He certainly benefited from other things, but Gibbs dealt with the quarterback position differently than other coaches did.
Regarding Hostetler, probably the greatest offensive play by the Giants in Super Bowl XXV was (seen at 12:28 in this video) when WR Mark Ingram (father of the more recent RB of the same name) caught a pass on 3rd & 14, and managed to break about 7 tackles to reach the first down marker, and preserve what would become the then longest drive in Super Bowl history, and a critical part of NY keeping the ball away from Buffalo's offense (that drive was over 10 minutes, more than half of the total time of possession Buffalo had all game). The whole thing that made that play so impressive was Ingram's heroics in picking up the first down. For some reason, no one asks why Hostetler threw the ball six yards short of the line to gain, with so many defenders between his target and the marker. Basically, Hostetler's best act in that game was not fumbling when he was sacked in the end zone, where the defender had a grip on his forearm, preventing him from tucking the ball to safety. I use Hostetler and Dilfer as my prime arguments against the need to go all in for a top pick franchise QB. In five Super Bowls played by the NY Giants, the superior QB lost every game. Phil Simms beat John Elway, Jeff Hostetler beat Jim Kelly, Trent Dilfer beat Kerry Collins, and Eli Manning beat Tom Brady, twice. It's the same for most of this list. Namath beat Unitas (and Morrall), Plunkett beat Theisman, Williams beat Elway, Foles beat Brady (how weird is it that Brady went out and beat Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb and Patrick Mahomes, while losing to Manning & Foles?), Rypien beat Kelly. Flacco is the only one to beat his objectively inferior counterpart.
Curious you throw a bunch of QBs that only got there due to their defenses. Brady for his entire career the average ranking of his defenses was 7th in the league. You’ll win a lot of SBs when you’re always rolling with a top 10 defense on average for 20+ yrs.
Hey Barry, something that might help these videos is if you highlight one or a few columns of stats in a different color when you show the stats. It’s hard to look through that whole screen of tons of stats in a short amount of time. Would be great if the most relevant stats for your discussion (completion pct, INTs, W/L, or whatever else) were highlighted yellow or something.
you truly undervalue Jim Plunkett who started his career with the woeful Patriots ( the offensive line if I remember correctly was nicknamed the 7 Pats of butter) and played in an era where qbs were not protected like they are today and has better sb numbers than some others not named
So much hate for Hostletter. In double digit seasons this man had ZERO losing records as a starter or backup. All winning seasons. But 2nd worst to win a SB? Really?
I injected 5 marijuanas prior to watching this video but Barry's premarital sex not-having voice caused an instant release of the toxins and I am now cured. My wife's boyfriend took me to the hospital (she was at work) and I feel much better. Glad to have him in our lives
@@ShahPhilLeotardo I'm such a Eli fan you can say Chris Simms was better lol. But seriously while I liked Phil Simms better then Eli. Eli still got them to the Super Bowl and won both, and he definitely came through on beating Brady twice. I know that has to get to Tom I know it would if I was Brady. I can take it if Payton beats me but not Eli and twice smh. Now if Simms won both Super bowls but he only played in 1 yes he paid good. Well against the bills O.j. Anderson played good. It's fitting that we could have said the juice ran loose on the bills but we know the bills should have won but Norwood missed it. Anyways I agree Simms is a better regular season QB Eli is a better 2 game QB that just has to be super bowls and against tom Brady. But other than that 2 game senerio id take Phil.
Tyrod Taylor 2015: 63.7% 3’035 yards. 8 yds/attempt 20 TD 6 INT 99.4 QBR. 568 yds rush 5.5 yards per carry 4 TDs. 1 fumble lost. Lamar 2023: 67.2% comp 3,678 yards 8.0 avg yards per throw 24 TD 7 INT 64.7 QBR . 821 yds rushing 5.5 avg per rush 2 fumbles lost. Note: his defense gave up 120+ less points. 2015 bills were a run first team. Kinda scary how close his #s were to a career backup and he was unanimous MVP despite Allen having 15 more TDS and more passing yards and similar rushing . But alas we all know mccaffery was the true 2023 MVP
I agree Mccaffrey should've won MVP. Those are actually considerably better completion% + pass and rush yard numbers though for Lamar compared to Taylor
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 and tie rod only played 16 games in his defense gave up 110 more points. Solemar was gaining stats in garbage time because his team was blowing other teams out
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 it’s kind of insane that a career back up journeyman has similar stats to Lamar Jackson MVP Josh Allen should’ve been the MVP. He had 15 more touchdowns and very similar stats better passing a little less rushing and a little more turnovers. Only reason he didn’t wear in MVP is because Lamar‘s team won number one seed. Compare Lamars playoff numbers to Josh Allen’s playoff numbers and you’ll see who is a better player.
Love the content Barry, any chance you could do top 10 Super Bowl wins in spite of their QB. Might be similar to this list but hearing some of these guys had crazy games on SB sunday and a some of the elite guys like Brady had some stinkers in the big game I’d be curious to see who got carried the most in that one game
2015 Peyton Manning belongs in the top-3. He got benched mid-year, was subsequently severely outperformed by Brock Osweiler of all people, and absolutely should not have been reinstated for the playoffs. He was beyond cooked. His playoff stats were very comparable to Hostetler's and he had arguably degraded into a worse player than Dilfer by that point. The epicness of the carry job the Broncos defense pulled off cannot be overstated. It's them and the Ravens D with Dilfer and nobody else is all that close.
@@CdGrifterHow is Eli not on it then? His per play efficiency was BELOW his fellow long term starters. He was the "Int King" among his peers. He was inconsitent in almost all reg. seasons. Even in the playoffs his teams only topped 24 points once (including those two insane luck streaks in 07 and 11).
Barry I’m currently shitting and pissing and crying because you put my hero Joe Flacco on this list. As a man who outgunned Brady twice in the playoffs, and a 10-5 playoff record, I’d say he’s one of the most under appreciated qbs from that era
Montana came off the bench to play the second half of that game. Also, his long term injury occurred during the 1991 preseason, not the 1990 NFC title game (though Steve Young probably would have had to play in Super Bowl 25 had the Niners won).
I'm not sure I'll ever understand Foles. Mediocre most of the time, but now and then he had a run of games where he looked like a first ballot hall of fame QB. Then it disappears in a puff of smoke, and the mediocre returns.
Nah Foles could ball out. Chip Kelly just gave up on him early to try and save his job. If he goes anywhere that doesn't have Jeff Fischer as a head coach he probably has an earlier career renaissance
Namath is a true HoFer. How he ends up on a "worst" list is beyond us people actually knowing football. Sure Barry goes by efficiency stats like Y/PP or passer rating. Which is a good start at least. But too bad he forgets to adjust for era (leave alone for opponents, weather, turf, dome, etc). Always. And calling QBs "fragile" (like he did with McMahon) is insulting. He should watch a single FULL game of the 70s or 80s. No excessive dink and dork (except for the 49ers who started with that shxx). QBs were aimed at with no mercy. They (good to great QBs) threw the ball long and precise more often than not. There wasnt a ton of easy dump offs (it was just a last resort), padding culmulative stats. And here is the stunner: With all the rules and systems in place to protect the QBs, almost two dozen went down this season. In no other sport in the world (except motor "sports") has the performance/skill level DECLINED, but at the QB position in college and pro ball. The new age rules led to poor mechanicvs, and more weak arm QBs make it to the league now. It has become pure lottery. Nowadays talent around the QB matters more, than the actual talent of a QB. After all: Namath, McMahon, Hostetler, in no way on this earth belong onto such an insulting list. Never, ever.
@@jasonnelson6624I am not from NY. And you have no idea what you are talking about. A keyboard trasher calling a great QB trash... Only in the woke world of nowadays possible. Learn football, then try again.
He holds some records throughout his short career with the Eagles and seeing as how he was solid in all seasons with Philly, it can be said he was dealt a bad hand by the organization and outside of KC, hopped around terrible organizations
I take issue with calling Jim McMahon "fragile as shit." How good would Tom Brady be if he was subjected to the vicious hits and repeated concussions that McMahon suffered. McMahon won 22 consecutive games as a starter, which was a record for over two decades.
I agree with most of the list. BUT Jim McMahon *embodied* the 1985 Bears. "No team has ever adopted the mentality of its quarterback more completely than that squad." - Pete Axthelm."
Those awesome 85 and 87 comebacks when the D had an off day. The finger nail baiting every time McMahon went down... A last hurrah of his magic in 91... This guy is on a "worst" list? Or Namath? Absurd.
Aye good thing is watching this makes more confident we may actually win with Lamar considering we’ve won with some of the worst qbs to start a Super Bowl😂😂
Jim McMahon is fragile? He had a lacerated kidney in 1984 missed the 1986 postseason because Charles Martin a fcking defensive tackle, intentionally body slammed him on the turf well after the whistle. That's not fragility. No QB ever is going to play through either instance
Yep. Sheer arrogance by the young guys who think protected dink and dork passers are something special (and still go down by almost two dozen this past season), while the real QBs are thrown to the dust bin, and onto "worst" lists.
Jim McMahon was better than he was given credit for, He’s often overlooked because Chicago was a defensive team and the star on offence was Walter Payton in a more physical run the ball era.
As an eagles fan man those 2 playoffs games (2018 eagles Viking, SB 52) Nick Foles was just DIFFERENT like he was the example of MID his whole career (except 2013) and those two playoff games he woke up and dominated
Jim McMahon wasnt a terrible qb his stats werent great but he was a hard nosed play maker.. After the superbowl he was injured a lot..plus he had a great team behind him..Jim Plunket was another one similar to McMahon he was a qb that was a hard nose guy who did what he needed to do to win..Not everyone on this list were bad quarterback's they just werent flashy and the play schemes for some teams back then werent all about passing..
Actually McMahon had great efficiency stats, adjusted for era. Barry could have looked it up if he had just scrolled down on the relevant football-reference list. Add in that Jim played in QB hell Chicago (the windy city), ofc he was always (except 86) among the leaders in pass efficiency in away games. 85 and 87 he bailed the Bears out when the D had an off day. 82, his rookie season was the 2nd best rated (behind Marino) until the rules became soft, and records were handed for free to average QBs. 84 he refused to turn the ball over, played his most efficient season. The greatest PHI comeback (from 0-23 down) was led by ... McMahon ofc. Amongst others, Ditka ("I give him card blanche" calling plays when all hope is lost), McMichael ("with Jim we had a QB, without him we just run plays"), Kotite (he actually "thank(ed) God for McMahon" after Cunningham went down four plays into the 91 season) couldnt praise him enough. Guys who actually do know football. At least Barry could have compared McMahon´s efficiency stats to his replacements/back ups (in CHI and PHI). The contrast was stark. There is an old article at football perspective. McMahon made the list in three seasons. He was the only one. Calling him "fragile"? Heck, he gave it all. Played on one leg, a lacerated kidney, with one eye, even a broken neck, among other injuries. QBs were hammered for free back in the days. Some survived, some somehow prolonged their careers (like McMahon), some were "killed" (like Theisman)... And nowadays? The pampered dink and dork passers, the no-touch-QBs went down by almost two dozen. Namath, McMahon, Hostetler never ever belong on a list of "worst" something. Thats grotesque. I am not even sure if Plunkett shall be in there...
@@FoxxyBrown1111 I agree with you 110% on everything you said..McMahon was an excellent qb. He didnt put up flashy stats he knew how to win and make plays that counted..he put up the stats that mattered..I loved watching him play..Namath , McMahon , Hostelter , Plunkett do not belong on this list..Next thing hes going to say is Roger Staubach is overrated..These guys and others like them werent untouchable stat babies..They were tough hard nosed qb's that did what it took. They were exciting to watch.. Some of these qb's today wouldnt have lasted as long had they played in another era..He should have done some deeper research..oh yeah theisman was definitely killed..I was watching that game with my father when LT broke his leg that was gruesome..
@@swampghost72Yes, back then QBs made the difference. Nowadays the stats do... They say QB is the hardest position in sports nowadays, its difficult, yada, yada... I see them fully protected by rules and schemes, dink and dorking through games. The last one having the ball is "winning" vs some kind of soft prevent/zone defenses. If your OL is good, in sync, nothing gonna stop you. Not even your own WRS dropping balls like Willie Gault (but he made up for it more often than not). I dont blame the defenses, their hands are cuffed... Its NBA in cleats. No matter if DeVito, Browning or Burrow throws the ball. If you have an average arm and brain, with good talent around you, you have a chance. We just had a minimum salary QB in the SB (nothing against Purdy, I like the guy). Just to make the point obvious... Defense still matters (the front seven that is), but only if they do not go "prevent you from winning defense".
@@FoxxyBrown1111 absolutely on point..I couldnt have said it better my friend..NBA in cleats lol..Decent arm with some talent around you and you have a potential all pro these days..I like purdy also but I also like Joe Burrow..There are some qb's today who might have a chance in the era's were referring to but not many..I miss those days.Football doesnt hold the same excitement for me that it once did..As a kid and young adult I couldnt wait for the weekends..Today Its something to watch..
@@swampghost72Yep, the wokness, politics, fantasy, gambling, entertainment-business-only pretty much spoiled it... The rules took football out of football. No one needs the brutal hits of the 70s, but no-touch is awful. NFL over did it. Refs are as worse than ever (hello gambling), overall play quality is down. Brady is right about it. Because of the new rules. Who needs proper tackling technique anymore, who needs talented WRS if you have super sticky gloves (Lester Stickum Hayes would be proud of). Who needs talented QBs when the 80s SF 49ers offense would be called a vertical offense today... And then there is the salary cap (casualities), thinning out the overall talent level.
The NFL gifted Philly that Super Bowl. The officials called the catch rule completely differently in that game than they did the whole season leading up to that Super Bowl.
How is Russell Wilson not on this list. He's garbage. Got carried by the greatest defense ever. Then they gave him the ball to win the game and he fucked it up.
Probably best comment here and I'm a Russell Wilson fan. Got carried for "years" by a ridiculous rock defense. Def not greatest defense ever but man, def top 10 all time. And he had prime Jimmy Graham
The list: 10. Joe Flacco 9. Brad Johnson 8. Joe Namath 7. Mark Rypien 6. Doug Williams 5. Jim McMahon 4. Jim Plunkett 3. Nick Foles 2. Jeff Hostetler 1. Trent Dilfer
Nick Foles is a better player than Brad Johnson. Tampa Bay could’ve won with any QB on this list. Philly would not have won with Brad Johnson at QB. Idc about their career stats. Foles carried his team in the postseason and Johnson was carried by his team. This honestly applies to over half the players in this video. Foles is better. Look at the ridiculous numbers for some of these QBs. 28 interceptions in one season for Joe Namath. That’s more picks than TDs Foles threw in 2013. Doug Williams most TDs in a season is 20. Mid. Don’t even get me started on McMahon. It’s not about total career numbers. Who’s more talented? “Best” means how would these guys perform if placed on the same roster. Foles would beat everyone on this list. Foles was only on a Super Bowl caliber roster once, and he won it. If Alshon Jeffrey doesn’t drop an easy pass in the divisional round the following year who says Foles doesn’t win another Super Bowl? And Eli doesn’t belong anywhere near this list.
I would like to see you do deep dive on Big Bens career like you have done for other QB I think Ben is kinda underrated because of people’s taking more of his fellow qbs like Rodgers,Brady, rivers ect while I won’t say he is undoubtedly the best ever he does have rings some records and impressive numbers to and then you can complete the 2004 qb draft class
This is why Gibbs should get more goat coach buzz, Bill and Reid are tied to goat QBs for their success but Gibbs won with all kinds of trash at QB and very different teams

Barry is the type of guy to turn the gain up all the way on his mic for an ad for factor
I'm proud that you resisted the temptation to put Brady on the list Barry. I know that took a lot.
number 10 tom brady, number 9 tom brady
you truly undervalue Jim Plunkett who started his career with the woeful Patriots ( the offensive line if I remember correctly was nicknamed the 7 Pats of butter) and played in an era where qbs were not protected like they are today and has better sb numbers than some others not named
I agree when I heard plunkett I was surprised and thought don't count the pats or 49er years.
So much hate for Hostletter. In double digit seasons this man had ZERO losing records as a starter or backup. All winning seasons. But 2nd worst to win a SB? Really?
Thank you Barry! I woke up this morning wanting to lose my hearing from someone giving me an add read. And boy did I get it
I injected 5 marijuanas prior to watching this video but Barry's premarital sex not-having voice caused an instant release of the toxins and I am now cured. My wife's boyfriend took me to the hospital (she was at work) and I feel much better. Glad to have him in our lives
12:13 thank God Barry knows the "Greg Jemmings i put the team on my back do" classic
I thought Eli would be here and then I saw Jim McMahon and my inner giants fan jumped for joy
Tbh, I thought Eli would be top 3
honestly, i think the fact that eli derped his way to 2 rings instead of just 1 elevates him above these guys
Eli, sims, Hostetler really you could have had your pick to put on the list 😂
@@jasonnelson6624Phil Simms was better than Eli
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 barely lol
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 and tie rod only played 16 games in his defense gave up 110 more points. Solemar was gaining stats in garbage time because his team was blowing other teams out
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 it’s kind of insane that a career back up journeyman has similar stats to Lamar Jackson MVP Josh Allen should’ve been the MVP. He had 15 more touchdowns and very similar stats better passing a little less rushing and a little more turnovers. Only reason he didn’t wear in MVP is because Lamar‘s team won number one seed. Compare Lamars playoff numbers to Josh Allen’s playoff numbers and you’ll see who is a better player.
that Mark Ingram play @12:30 definitely helped Hostetler get that ring!😂😂😂
The list isn’t based off one year. It’s their whole career.
2015 Peyton Manning should be on the list. He was a liability that year. Hired Ari Fleisher to be his personal PR guy.
1. Tom Brady
2. Trent Dilfer
1. Tom Brady (2001 playoffs, wins a SB while going a month throwing one td pass. Wins SB 36 & 53 leading O to 13 pts.)
2. Trent Dilfer
@@thegoat164just ignore the fact that he has doubled TDs as any other qb
@@-PURPLE-HEADHe played way more games in a QB-friendly era.
Thanks Barry, now I can hear your beautiful voice
Barry I’m currently shitting and pissing and crying because you put my hero Joe Flacco on this list. As a man who outgunned Brady twice in the playoffs, and a 10-5 playoff record, I’d say he’s one of the most under appreciated qbs from that era
Would you take him over anyone you didn’t see him name?
I had to do a double take to see that Jeff Hostetler was 29 when he won the Super Bowl and not 45 like he always looked due to that killer mustache 😂
Good stuff, thanks for the video. Dilfer getting a ring while Marino is always slighted for not winning one is some real stuff right there.
Do overrated / underrated for coaches
11:48 Montana’s last start for SF was in Week 17 (or whatever the final week was) on a Monday Night in 1992 against Detroit.
My entire family died from the nuclear shockwave of your audio editing when you shifted into the ad portion of your video.
Nah Foles could ball out. Chip Kelly just gave up on him early to try and save his job. If he goes anywhere that doesn't have Jeff Fischer as a head coach he probably has an earlier career renaissance
Now THATS a thumbnail. Absolutely sick 😂
I agree the thumbnail is great.
Namath had no knees left by the time he completed college. It makes what he did even more impressive
Only ny guys like Namath the rest of us think he is overrated trash. Jeff Georges long lost father 😂
Barry, please turn up the volume when speaking into the mic. I need to hear more of that glorious quality. Thank you good sir!
That shoutout to Greg Jennings sending me way back +10 years on a nostalgia trip
Nick Foles did ball out though in Super Bowl LII.
But yeah, his career overall justifies his number 3 spot on the list.
He holds some records throughout his short career with the Eagles and seeing as how he was solid in all seasons with Philly, it can be said he was dealt a bad hand by the organization and outside of KC, hopped around terrible organizations
Barry never fails to reupload a video after his audio engineer took a hit over his computer while mixing this video
Joe Flacco is an elite quarterback
Sureeeee bro sure
Great list and video. My Redskins have 2 on there. Williams and Rypien belong. Which shows the greatness of Joe Gibbs. Thanks for doing this!
BUT
Jim McMahon *embodied* the 1985 Bears.
Or Namath? Absurd.
When you have a defense that only allows 4 points a game, it is pretty difficult not to win a super bowl.
Lol 😆😆😆😆 you didn't have to do my Ravens like this bro🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!
Jim McMahon was better than he was given credit for, He’s often overlooked because Chicago was a defensive team and the star on offence was Walter Payton in a more physical run the ball era.
haven’t watched a second of the vid yet, just wanted to say the thumbnail art rocks. keep that up, it’s definitely not going unnoticed
I’m a UAB fan so Dilfer begin our head coach and a Super Bowl winning QB is pretty cool
I thought I was hallucinating when I first saw this pop up. Thankfully, this confirms that the marijuana did not get me.
As an eagles fan man those 2 playoffs games (2018 eagles Viking, SB 52) Nick Foles was just DIFFERENT like he was the example of MID his whole career (except 2013) and those two playoff games he woke up and dominated
“take a deep breath eli fans, i didn’t include him” I LOVE YOU BARRY
Brad Johnson is so underrated... He gets a lot of griwfs for no reason
yeah I know there’s only so many super bowls but I don’t think he belongs on this list
McMahon wasn’t fragile ! The league didn’t protect players the way they do now !
Eli should absolutely be on this list.
And he wasn't better than Flacco
Another barry video to kick off the week 🔥
His factor bit was so funny at the beginning. It was so deep fried lmao.
8:16 killed me 😂😂
The list:
10. Joe Flacco
9. Brad Johnson
8. Joe Namath
7. Mark Rypien
6. Doug Williams
5. Jim McMahon
4. Jim Plunkett
3. Nick Foles
2. Jeff Hostetler
Love the flow of this👌🏻
Enjoying the videos as the usual, Barry
I was half expecting him to put Brady at 1
"And at #1 we have Tom Brady... nah even I'm not that much of a hater, obviously it's Trent Dilfer"
wassup barry i love seeing when you post
Was wondering where you’d rank Dilfer. Good stuff!
Thanks to the incredible change in microphone audio for the ad, I now don’t have to hear my wifes boyfriend and her in the other room.
Man, when Barry says he's gonna give a shoutout he fucking means it.
If Barry had the courage to set up his own audio for his channel, then I have the courage to tell my boyfriend that I’m gay.
This is why Gibbs should get more goat coach buzz, Bill and Reid are tied to goat QBs for their success but Gibbs won with all kinds of trash at QB and very different teams
Brad Johnson always comes to my mind right off the bat with the Bucs. Completely forgot about Trent Dilfer...or any Dilfer LMAO
Now i wonder if Barry is going to do a "10 best quaterbacks to not win a superbowl".
Marlon Brisco (I can't spell names). Was the 1st Black man to start a game. But that was in AFL. When the merger took place he became Wide out
The last line of this video is legend.
