This is one of the best songs ever recorded by a female artist...top 10 ever in my opinion. Compliments to songwriter Lloyd Cole, but she does the signature performance of this song, both studio version and here live. She needs to come out of retirement and keep doing new material and she could transform her career into legendary status. We get zero airplay of Sandie Shaw in Canada. I definitely appreciate her "60's" style performance with a contemporary piece. Keep em' coming Sandie.
I really have to say Sandie Shaw looked so cool in the 60s ( when she had 3 No1's) she was a very striking girl back then and was labelled the Queen of the mods She could sing in French, German, Spain, Italian etc. In the 80s she matured into a very beautiful woman. This version is much heartfelt then the Lloyd Cole version. Lloyd and Morrissey were big fans of Sandie from the 60s and loved her in the 80s They had much respected. That's why the 2 worked with her. Morrissey was a Sandie nutter.
Very much still in time in 1981. What was Sandie, 33 at the time. Not really giving anything away to any female rocker or siren of the post punk age. Chrisie or Susie inc I mean they all thought the revolution was nigh at the time.
Ah, le look des années 80....C'est la seule décennie qui n'est pas revenue dans la mode..Heureusement! Hormis ces commentaires sur le look, cette chanteuse a une super voix.
Much as I prefer LC&TC original, it's a beautiful song and this has an interesting slant to it. Still preferred Sandie doing 'Hand In Glove', with Marr, Rourke and Joyce though......
Sounds like The Smiths with Sandy Shaw with that chiming Byrdsian guitar ... I love the boots and the skirt, btw, she looks soooo cool. Shame about that loose jacket.
When people say 'interesting', their interest is rarely beyond the first listening. Interesting. Maybe you could extend on your shoe wearing by being the frontman for the Smiths, sans Morrisey, Sandy? Heaven knows... If I may contradict myself, Lloyd Cole is not 'interesting'!
I was there the night she sang this, Breathtaking. The women was pure magic.

Ki gondolná /én nem/hogy ez a szám kB. 200 évvel ezelőtt íródott?! Ugyanúgy tetszik most is 2021 vége felé...
Who wrote this? Was it Morrissey or Lloyd Cole?

LLoyd Cole is a genius and his version is so much better than this one (which is also quite good anyway)
