Going Clear totally eye opening. Scientology liked to keep their beliefs secret and for good reason. It’s bat shit crazy and should not even be considered a religion
As a prank, I once gave them a call. The woman I spoke with kept trying to see if I was having issues in my life and I wasn't, I just was asking for more information about them. I had to struggle to find any major conflicts in my life that she seemingly wanted to hear about (my life isn't perfect but I'm quite the strong person and can find my own solutions or time itself is the solution. I didn't have anything major going on in my life). Everything I said to her was somehow twisted to be the fault of my family. I lived with my mom and her boyfriend at the time and while I wasn't crazy about the boyfriend, I took offense to her trying to tell me my mom was the source of my issues. I knew what they were trying to do, cut me off from her, and realizing what was going on, I hung up. It felt...like something out of the Twilight Zone, perhaps? I can see how they could easily rope someone less susceptible in and distance them from their loved ones and hold them emotionally hostage. Very odd and scary to actually be a witness to how it could happen.
@Nolan Is Innocent Dividing me from my family was NOT what I was expecting. You can join a religion (I would not call them a religion though, this is a cult. Which, one might say all religions are but I'm not going to go down that route) and not be emotionally manipulated into pushing away your family. Frankly, both then and now, I'm not crazy about religion but I wanted to actually speak with a representative directly just to hear what they had to say. The prank part was calling with no intention of joining, but still being respectful and asking actual questions. The shock was the emotional manipulation of which I wasn't aware of at the time as being one of their practices. One addition after rereading my original comment: I think you may have misunderstood as to if I knew they were going to be emotionally manipulative before making the call, but I wasn't. Being told to shut out those that don't respect your beliefs is one thing...but to instantly jump to actively saying, regardless of the matter, that I need to cut my mom out of my life? There are sooo many reasons why "13th" is one of the best documentaries of all time (of which include Ava Duvernay who directed "Selma" and "When They See Us"). @@jessloo5969 You mean the work of total fiction? Most of the people they interviewed for the movie itself have spoken out against it Invalidity! Its PETA Fiction.....
Your girlfriend is stupid. That's not a documentary. It's all lies.
The problem with the Imposter was that the movie based on it was a little bit better, Changeling
Stevie, Three Identical Strangers, and The Cove were all great!
Stevie is a fantastic doc.
The Cove was 2009, not in this date range.
Minding The Gap. Heart wrenching. Beautiful and sad film. So incredibly well done. ♥️
Winter On Fire was insane. It was so crazy to see a modern country get turned into a medieval battlefield.
Oh it was!!!!!
I was expecting it on this top 10 🙌🏻
I was expecting it on this top 10 🙌🏻
Icarus is the best documentary I've personally seen. The fact that it starts so far from where it ends is absolutely INSANE!!! There's really no way to describe it, except the fact that they got all this on camera, makes it an awesome, awesome, AWESOME documentary
Its crazy that you didnt even mentioned the dear zachary: a fathers letter to his son.
Oh that one was DISTURBING, like hairs standing up on the back of my neck disturbing. Also, ashamed of the Canadian justice system on this one... smh
.... hmm ... maybe because That movie came out in 2008.... and this list was for the best documentaries between 2010-2020 ;)
John D M good point man
I will never forgive Canada for that. Just heart breaking.
"THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS" should have been on that list ...
Scientology is not a religion
Icarus was so good! I wasn’t expecting the turn the documentary took.
yes !! you missed wild wild country !! that is a great documentary !!
This was a great list :) But you omitted True Cost! An exceptional documentary about the fashion industry and it's social and environmental impact. I would have loved to see Albatross mentioned too :)
That man, mr rogers, was such a wonderful person on screen and off. I hope whatever heaven he believes in, he makes it there.
I loved that movie. And the Tom Hanks one too
Three Identical Strangers is a masterpiece of documentary film making. Absolutely fascinating.
No Mas Bebes is a heartbreaking look at how eugenics was practiced in California. It should be on this list. I watched it at Cal Poly SLO during my undergrad. We had an Q&A with director Renee Tajima-Peña afterwards. One of the most eye opening experiences of my life.
Thanks for recognizing how powerful 13th was, I also enjoyed Abducted In Plain Sight, The Two Killings Of Sam Cooke & Fritzl as well
There are sooo many reasons why "13th" is one of the best documentaries of all time (of which include Ava Duvernay who directed "Selma" and "When They See Us"). But also the timing of that documentary added to it. It came out in October 2016, one month before the divisive 2016 election, and watching it back then make you feel so much hatred towards an American political and justice system that has not learned its lesson to this day...
“They Shall Not Grow Old” at 11:57 is incredibly moving
DEAR ZACHARY
From 2008, so not from this decade. Really good though.
Calle ahhh damnit you’re right. But yes so good
That is a movie you can only watch once, and it SCARS!
I push this doc on everybody, never went through so many emotions in a single viewing. Was really bummed it didn’t make the list until I saw that it’s from 2008.
Ughhh heartbreaking
My favorite documentaries are 13th (2016), Amy (2015), What’s wrong Miss Simone? (2015), A Ballerina’s Tale (2015), Autism in Love (2015), Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of my life (2017), Diana: In her own words (2017), and The Imagineering Story (2019)
Three identical Strangers needs to be on this list. As well as Making a Murderer
Making a murderer is a series not a film

What about The Ted Bundy Tapes? That was amazing. I binged it all in one day.
Or my personal favorite, Surviving R. Kelly. Which was so good, they made a second part.
Totally agree. Watched all four in one afternoon and more or less repeatedly since. An awful person but fascinating at the same time.
You should watch "I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story"
Diana: In Her Own Words is on Netflix and I highly recommend!
You missed the making of a murderer, evil genius, abducted in plain sight, defiant one's and wild wild country
This is one of the first times that seeing someone’s face after only hearing their voice for years didn’t totally shock or disappoint me. You look exactly how you sound, as strange as that is to say! Haha
"Won't You Be My Neighbor" made me cry tears of joy. Mr. Rogers was basically like a third parent to me.
I love your video at large but i will advice everyone who is into crypto to stick with ETH and BTC as much as you can guys. If everyone sells when it starts to fall, which at one point it will, the dream may be lost because of it being too volatile for companies to get behind.
Imagine being rich, being too lazy and ignorant to come to even the slightest agreement. Let's petition to fire the government or take from their pocket Money is good for only three things : fun, investing, and giving.
@@roycejakob4411 It's strange how people talk about all the profits, they've been making through trading of bitcoin, while am here not making any profit at all. Please can Someone put me through on the right path or at least tell me what I'm doing wrong?
@@alanfuller7176 Same here, My portfolio has been going down the drain while I try trading,I just don't know what I do wrong.
Talking about stocks, forex trading is the most profitable venture I ever invested in, I reached my goal of $120k monthly trade earnings. Wondering if viewers here are familiar with Bella trading strategy?
All good investors are conversant with expert Mrs Bella. she's unique in the field just got to keep to her instructions and you Excel
Boy band con is extremely underrated. Should be on this list.
Glad to see 'Leaving Neverland' was not mentioned.
Dear Zachery is amazing - extremely difficult to watch but amazing. I also adored, Tell Me Who I am. Another amazing yet difficult documentary.
Turns out we have very similar tastes when it comes to documentary films. I absolutely loved those films as well. Check out three identical strangers and the keepers if you get a chance. I have a feeling you may like those too.
I had to watch "13th" in college for a Sociology class. It was absolutely insightful, to say the least. I also watched "Fyre" on my own on Netflix.
I'm not a big documentary guy, but the history behind "Evil Genius" should be able to get them on this list.
Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Jiro: Dreams of Sushi
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened
Life Itself
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The Biggest Little Farm
The scariest thing about "The Act of Killing". The credits. Most of the crew weren't named. Probably for fear of very real retaliation,
I knew that 13th was going to be in the top 3. I’ve watched it at least 5 times and urge everyone to watch it so least once.
How to Die in Oregon should have been somewhere on this list.
Roland Deshain this doc has made a permanent mark in me. Truly amazing.
@@fermay13 same! Changed my views on death with dignity laws.
One of my favorite docs of last decade was "Amy" on Amy Winehouse. Really liked that one.
Taxi to the Darkside better be on best Documentary of 2000-2009 list because that was one of the craziest Docs i have watched.
Next TOP DOCUSERIES
I was thinking that
"WHITNEY" The documentary was good! You should watch that one. But yeah "13th" and "Black fish" i've seen on this list and those are worth a watch.
Three Identical Strangers could easily slide in on this list.
Agreed.
That Amy movie really had an impact on how.I appreciate music. RIP Amy, we will never forget how unique and special you are
The inventor, an HBO documentary about Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, it's actually full on youtube, very interesting
I hate her fake voice so much
@@countrygirlbeth1 I do as well but it's amazing how much was done withought anyone questioning their desitions
The book, Bad Blood is much better. The documentary just skims the surface.
By far one of the best!
Sugar man ugh amazing!! That whole album is incredible.
Man I was hoping you guys would cover “An Honest Liar” which is a great documentary about James Randi
Loved it
I’d cut the Fyre documentary, and add Queen of Versailles, Senna, and Weiner. I’d also rank Won’t You Be My Neighbor much higher, since that was truly a special film. Since so many people are mentioning doc series, make a list of those!
A plastic ocean
Before the flood
- i would give them honorable mention
Man I am blown away as I watch the voice of the iconic narrator of watchmojo
Missed "Winter on fire" here! It was amazing!!
Now this was a great list! Thanks WatchMojo
Where is Dear Zackary?? That was one of the best I've ever seen
That came out in 2008 I believe.
To me probably the best documentary I ever see came out this past decade, OJ Made in America! Even the music is fucking incredible!
There’s something wrong with Aunt Diane
ilikejumprope This!!!
Great video, I also loved:
- three identical strangers
- Wild Wild Country
Senna was probably the best one. Only issue with it is the extreme bias and complete misrepresentation of Alain Prost.
That's most of these so called documentaries.
Searching for Sugar Man was unbelievable! Wonderful!
And WHY, in the name of sanity, Michael Moore's "Where to Invade Next?" isn't on this list?
What about the red pill??
About the men's rights movement groups and the backlash it received, it was an excellent documentary
Heeeeeeey! Nice to see the Watchmojo lady! You are a great narrator, I love your tone! Do you do audio books by any chance?
What about Making a A Murderer? That had EVERYONE talking.
Read the title of the video.
Kudos (again) to WatchMojo for providing a considered and informative top 20. Things spin by so quickly now and these are really handy to get back to the things you'd intended to look at... then had forgotten about. And kudos to other doc. mentions in the comments.
Has anyone seen the documentary “I Like Killing Flies”? If you haven’t I would recommend it.
What is it about
Tom Blomster yes, please tell
What about "The Salt of The Earth", an inspiring and hopeful portrait about a man who've seen the darkest of mankind. A must watch in my opinion.
