Glad you mentioned Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. I love that movie, he’s truly frightening in it. And Toni Collette is great in pretty much everything but she was excellent in Hereditary.
Glad Gyllenhall in Nightcrawler got credit here! I watched the movie randomly and was blown away by how his performance made the movie so eerie and grim while staying interesting
@@ajpat9620 ledger was better. It would make more sense to say that phoenix acted better in the master than ledger in dark Knight (tho I liked ledger more)
@@shauryaa5687 Everyone knows that Heath Ledger's performance of the Joker is iconic and legendary. To be frank, Joaquin Phoenix was also great as the Joker and he made a unique interpretation of that movie. Same statement also applies to Jack Nicholson as the Joker. The less being said on Jared Leto's horrible performance of the Joker, the better.
@@ajpat9620 ledgers joker felt much better to me than Phoenix's joker. Yes, Nicholson, ledger and phoenix all portrayed much different kinds of The Joker but in terms of acting I think ledger completely stood when compared to any other joker. The more playful, insane, intelligent joker. The kind of messy joker makeup with the brilliant detailing of the scars on his face actually looked better than Phoenix's clean and immaculate joker/clown makeup. You could feel the tension everytime he comes on the screen and yet you would keep waiting for him to show when he's not on the screen. The fact that despite being the supporting character in the movie, joker took the spotlight from the Batman (this speaks more about Nolan's writing of the joker character in the film in a way tho) is enough to make him the quintessential joker in any Batman film. I think phoenix in the master gave one of the GOAT acting performances just like ledger in Dark Knight and if phoenix has ledger beat in terms of acting, it would because of his role in the master rather than the one in Joker. P.s I don't agree with ledger at no. 1 spot. Him and DDL's positions should be swapped imo but it's not that big a deal. Both deserve to be in the top 2.
Casey Affleck for Manchester by the sea, Kate Winslet for eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Marillon Cotillard for La vie en rose and Christoph Waltz for Inglorious Basterds should be here imo. Otherwise the list is fine (though I think Day-Lewis in There will be blood is the best performance in this century)
I feel like Leo should get an honorable mention for “Catch Me If You Can”, even though I couldn’t stand the character, that was the whole point, to love/hate him which he did astonishingly well.
Marion Cotillard - La Vie en Rose Mo'Nique - Precious Meryl Streep - Doubt / The Iron Lady Cate Blanchett - Blue Jasmine / The Aviator Forrest Whitaker - The Last King of Scotland Viola Davis - Doubt / The Help / Fences Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything Gary Oldman - Darkest Hour
Yes you can talk about the Ledger's and the Bardem's, but is anyone gonna talk about Andy Serkis as Gollum? Seriously it's still one of the most accurate and spine chilling performances of all time!
Glad and surprised to see Toni Colette on this list. She usually doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. Phenomenal performance in Hereditary for sure.
I feel so validated that so many people are pissed that Christoph Waltz wasn't on this list. IMHO he should be #1. It invalidates the whole list! Yes, I've been in quarantine too long and am quite emotional. MOJO owes me and apology-LOL!!!

Cristoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds, Jack nicholson in the Departed, Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln, Denzel Washington and Viola Davis in Fences, Casey Afflec in Manchester by the Sea, Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, Cate Blanchet in Blue Jasmine and Olivia Colman all definitly belong on this list!

Joaquin phoenix’s portrayal as someone with pseudobulbar disorder (uncontrollable laughter) in joker was some of the best acting of all time. I know he has been credited so much but somehow i still feel like he doesn’t get the praise he deserves. Maybe because of how mainstream the joker film got
OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH Watchmojo, for including Toni Collette's in Hereditary! Her performance was mind blowing and so underrated. I'm really surprised that Meryl Streep's performance in the Iron Lady is not even on this list though.

Strangely I’ve only seen two of these performances (Castaway and the Dark Knight) but I have to say that both of them undoubtedly deserve to be on this list. Castaway in particular was a film that made me cry. Over a ball. And I’ve only ever cried at two films so this is a testament to what an incredible performance was given here. Also, even though I’ve not seen the particular performance you referred to, I’m very glad Joaquin Phoenix made it onto this list. His performances as the Joker in Joker and Commodus in Gladiator blew me away. I think Phoenix has to be one of my favourite actors of all time.

Glad you mentioned Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. I love that movie, he’s truly frightening in it. And Toni Collette is great in pretty much everything but she was excellent in Hereditary.
I hated Jake Gyllenhaal’s character so much in that movie. Which proves to me that Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the best actors there is today
Christoph Waltez deserve his spotr in the list with his two legendary roles "Dr Sholtz" and "The Nazi"
Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind deserves to be on this list! Such an underrated dramatic actor
True
He won golden globes like three years in a row, I don't really know but the awards says lot about his performance.
Very underrated movie and performance by Carrey
Trumanov show..
Joaquin and Phillip are just perfect in the master
Glad Gyllenhall in Nightcrawler got credit here! I watched the movie randomly and was blown away by how his performance made the movie so eerie and grim while staying interesting
Heath Ledger's Joker all the way.
Nah, both Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix as both Joker, all the way....
@@ajpat9620 Agree, both are equal and great potrayal in different way. But i talk about role on this list.
Denzel - American Gangster
Russell Crowe - Gladiator & Beautiful Mind

Denzel in Training Day
Gladiator was amazing excellent performance
Spot on
I love that Nupita Nyong’o was mentioned for 12 years a slave, but I feel like her performance in Us should have been included too
Tom Hanks should’ve won his 3rd oscar with Cast Away, that was a life time role.

Russell Crowe was outstanding as well. Two of the greatest performances of all time in my opinion.

I've always felt it's been over rated especially because of his death, he did a great job but not that great
Heath’s performance is not just the best of the century so far, it is one of the best performances of all time.
Denzel in “Training Day” honorable mention? Come on
should easily be in the top three
Yeah they should have removed all those female acting performances.
I feel like Leo should get an honorable mention for “Catch Me If You Can”, even though I couldn’t stand the character, that was the whole point, to love/hate him which he did astonishingly well.
hated him ? i was rooting for him lol

Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything

The last king of Scotland, Forrest's performance was a masterpiece
Thank you for recognizing Toni Collett's performance! She was robbed by the Oscars. That dinner table scene was outstanding!
Yes you can talk about the Ledger's and the Bardem's, but is anyone gonna talk about Andy Serkis as Gollum? Seriously it's still one of the most accurate and spine chilling performances of all time!
thats for another list. top 10 underrated performances of the century.
Glad and surprised to see Toni Colette on this list. She usually doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. Phenomenal performance in Hereditary for sure.
Night crawler by Jake Gyllenhaal was criminally underrated. His character was a genuine psycho
This list will remain invalid until Christoph Waltz is on it for HANS LANDA
I feel so validated that so many people are pissed that Christoph Waltz wasn't on this list. IMHO he should be #1. It invalidates the whole list! Yes, I've been in quarantine too long and am quite emotional. MOJO owes me and apology-LOL!!!
WatchMojo keeps recognizing Jake Gyllenhaal and I love it cause he's one of the best.
WatchMojo is a stupid channel. But yeah. Gyllenhaal is amazing.
Nightcrawler was Jake's Taxi Driver role, and don't forget his performance in Donnie Darko.

Michael Fassbender in Shame
Géza Röhrig in Son of Saul
Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose
Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine
Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds

Heath ledger as joker
Day Lewis as there will be blood
These performances really stand out 👌
Joaquin phoenix’s portrayal as someone with pseudobulbar disorder (uncontrollable laughter) in joker was some of the best acting of all time.

Jake was AMAZING in Nightcrawler! Glad to see him on the list!
The no:1 and 2 are interchangeable
Haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street but I thought DiCaprio's take as Howard Hughes was pretty damn good
I liked DiCaprio in aviator but I thought the movie overall was a bit boring

Mo'Nique re-drew the boundaries of emotional upheaval with Precious. The "who was gonna love me?" scene is completely untouchable.
When I watched a previous WatchMojo video, I didn’t know she had no acting skills but she nailed it and deserved an award
Hard to just pick 20, but Christoph Waltz’s definitely was a snub. I was expecting to see him in the top 5. Daniel Day Lewis is my number one. Ledger’s Broke Back could have also been a top 5. Same with Joaquin’s The Master. I also would have liked to see Bradley Cooper’s Silver Lining performance at least as an honorable mention. So underrated. Same with Octavia Spencer’s performance in The Help. Adrian Brody in the Pianist. Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk. Nicole Kidman in Dogville. Cate Blanchett in I’m Not There.
