I have a sliiiiiightly similar story. Playing Waverace 64, listening to Faith No More’s “Introduce Yourself” album. I wasn’t ultra keen on the album, but I could play Waverace for hours.
I spent a little extra cash, and bought the 100 watt with two 12 inch speakers, and it is LOUD. I really like the power control on it, to go from 100, 50, or .5. Best amp I have ever owned! Perfect for household use, or even in a band setting with a loud drummer.
Honestly if you get the software for it on your pc and plug it in this amp becomes a whole new animal. There are so many different distortion options/ eq and effects to play around with and when you figure out how it all works you can craft your perfect tone
He got the tone sounding so good just with the basic settings I'm amazed, many people say the Katana out of the box is bad for metal unless you use software, if he got it sounding like this, imagine it with software

@KindAngel there's comparisons on RUclips, pretty much the same as 5150 but has slightly more high end which is not very noticable in the mix, for recording, it probably stands out better because of this.

Built a custom cab based on the Zilla fat baby that would also hold the head section of my KTN50. Loaded it with a greenback and it turned my little Katana into a beast.

I just bought the head version of this amp and immediately noticed the high fidelity of thie Katan to my guitars, Aside from its flexibility and great tone, the subtlety of reproduction is like nothing I have ever heard. The only word for this improbable quality is SUPERNARUEL!

You should try to dial the master full tilt and roll your channel volume back that way you have more of the response of an amp cranked way up . That’s the suggested settings from boss. Even if you don’t tho your settings sounds pretty killer!
Iain Sinfield the brown sound setting is for sure the way to go for Zakk style gain another route is the crunch setting with gain at a bit past half and the boss blues driver od on a tiny bit. As far as the chorus sound your best bet is to go into the tone studio in fact you might even be able to download a Zakk Wylde patch

There is an application for the android to access the tone studio. You do need a USB B to A chord, and a USB to android adapter. It isn’t available on IOS.
So was tossing up on whether to grab a mk 2 50 watt for a smaller rig as i have a 100 watt 6505 + and cab i use atm is the katana a good purchase for a smaller rig ??
Is the sound quality good when playing with headphones on these amps? I have a Line 6 and the sound quality is absolute garbage when playing through my headphones. I live in a basement apartment so playing through headphones is the only way I can play loud
Its because there is no cab simulation. Depending on which line6 you have, you could get you a cab sim pedal and connect it between headph out and headphone. Well, its not an option when the phone out is frequency corrected. If there is no frequency cut, you can hear a LOT of fizz in the highs through your phones - then a cab sim should work. Ola englund reviewed a mooer radar cab sim pedal. Might be a cheap and good enough solution
I use a HD500X (Fuck the haters. It's still kickass) but I hate it through headphones. When I play through my tube power amp (el84) it fucking kills. The response and feel is excellent... Until I put my headphones on and then it just shits the bed. I've never been a headphone guy but sometimes that's all ya got.

I bought a block later 5150 combo and new back in 97 and now I'm really debating on whether to trade in for the katana 5150 combo or head. Should I? I've also just started doing home recordings and found that the 5150 is impossible for me to get the sound I wanted I I'm finished with what seems to me to be a broke effects loop that is beyond me to get work correctly, so I can't play with the tone I like without blowing out windows in my house.?
dude, lead < brown. ts gain 0, tone 25-35 level 70-77 amp gain 20-30 volume 50 prescense 75 amp eq basically 666 fx -2 gain q 4 at 315hz and +2 at 2.5 q 4 same for the crunch just throw the gain at about 40-60 and add some gain onthe ts 15-25. however, this is good for practice alone or with a band. I wouldn't put a katana within a mile of a studio recording unless i need a clean or very low gain tone. just my opinion though.
I own the Boss Katana MKII 2x12..did you know you can hook your android or iPhone up to the Katana amps instead of a laptop or computer..all you need is a OTG (on the go) converter chord and a USB connector and wallah life just got a shit load easier(not that a man of your size and stature minds lugging an amp to a pc or a laptop around under your cannons).you get everything that the Boss Tone Studio has and more..you can also adjust the "live" input to "Record" so you don't get that muddy tone sound when you hook up to a recorder....nice fucking jamming too..I'm a HUGE Slayer Soldier among others like Sepultura and the like..if you or any of your fans need help or tips on anything Katana or portastudio recorder related ..hit me up please ..thrash on my fellow guitarist! 🤘🤘 I'm a pure metal man but I also love new technology and I'm also a seasoned pro on giving advise for amp settings..the mind boggling questions..I can help just ask

What settings are we using on the Tone Studio program for this? The knob settings shown in the video alone aren't enough to make that sound without the amp being plugged into the computer to mess with the Tone Studio programming for the Boss Katana amp. Anyone got some recommendations?

My best advice is for you to use your own ear to dial in a tone because not everyone will like the same settings.
