Playing careless whispers is so fitting because I always start hopelessly confused at the start of your videos and end up knowing so much more at the end of your videos
I’m 52 years old, been playing since I was 15, just got an Katana MK2, and you make the most bad ass guitar videos I’ve ever seen. Bravo Mason, and thank you 🔥🤘🏼✌🏼
Great vid for starters, and a great video for starters. Maybe I'm just on the same wavelength because your approach to EQ made perfect sense to me. I've been sort of avoiding my Mkii because of this. Super glad I found your channel!
All you need is a calibrated mic and REW or even just spectroid on android and you'll see the FR output. If you have that you'll be able to determine what frequency, boost or cut and Q you'd need to achieve a given tone.
Nice playing and tones, however, and this is not an attack on you, just letting you know how I feel, and only my opinion. This is for noob’s right? Most noob’s won’t know what wide and narrow means, what 1k or 500hz or whatever it is, in other words, maybe just dumb it down a bit more if possible, remember, you are already a master at this where as some of us are just trying to get a reasonable tone but have had no training at all. And don’t say you are not a great teacher, you are! It’s just that we don’t all learn at the same pace. Thanks for your patience and I like the background. Mike.
Thanks for going in depth. Never heard anyone else mention why you would use multiple EQ's like that for example. Now I just have to tweak it slightly to work with my setup. Any tips for headphone users? The biggest difference between me and tones in tutorials is that I'm nearly always using headphones where most people don't. I see that you are using an SM58 very close to the Amp for example so I'm trying similar settings in the Katana line out settings. It's fairly close, but tricky to get it just right. Either way, the result is better than anyone other tone tutorial I've followed!
@@Synthedelic Maybe I'll use that next time, I already put the order in. It went in at around 10:20 Pacific time so you might get an idea of how long it takes for you get a notification.
it was pretty instantaneous. I have sent over the order details to printful and they are fulfilling the order 👍 you should be able to get shipping details and tracking as soon as it’s printed.
Nice dude - you def know your way around an EQ - this video taught me a lot, actually. The most difficult part for me is that patches are guitar/pickup specific. I have a few of your patches that sound awesome on your strat - metallica and aic stuff - but sound totally different on the epiphone les paul i have. I need to figure out how to convert.
Sneaky amp 🤨 why am I learning this so late in the game? Im typically trying to learn all the things ASAP. Found out my typical tone issues came from me not playing anywhere near loud enough. Awesome video, lots of help, its not your typical Katana video.
Really giving juca nery a run for his money. His prices are ridiculous. Keep posting these and maybe he will also be forced to reduce his "boss tone studio courses" prices.
@@vrrc7686he sucks, his tones are mid and VERY expensive is like bro, with that money u can buy better things but wtf, Nuca Jerry is the most expensive boss katana tones channel it’s literally wtf, terrible
Pretty cool kinda understand it, what is the sneaky amp patch stuff is that other stuff u load into the amp then work the eqs .. dont really understand that part...
so base katana has [Acoustic] [Clean] [Crunch] [Lead] & [Brown] Each of them have the Variation button available making 10 different choices for amp type. the sneaky amps are amp models from other BOSS hardware, but are usable with the katana. they each sound different and have different characteristics than the base amp types. I like to use them because they do sound so different from the base amp types. it’s mostly personal preference. i rarely make a tone starting with the Base Amp types. it’s almost always a sneaky amp.
7:59 Last night playing with your Load patches, I noticed you had the solo level all the way down and the EQ on and I thought...does the solo EQ even work with the level all the way down? So I started to play with the low cut and was like, holy shit...it does. Apparently I don't use the solo feature enough.
ya, the level is only a volume boost! The Solo feature i think was made for live performances. but it gives another EQ to throw into the mix. having the solo set to “amp in” essentially adds a 3rd band to the PEQ i have in the FX spot. while “amp out” adds an extra band to one of the Main panel EQs (if they are also set to amp out)
Awesome sounds, I had the boss katana for a year but having problems finding my tones. Can you make a good Marshall jc800 tone? Mostly for cleaner rock.

@@Sparksnorthern the distortions can have a different sound when EQing in front of them. giving a different break apart sound. it’s basically like adding an eq directly onto the distortion pedal.
@@Synthedelic thanks, and I understand that. I just wasn't sure how you gathered that the EQ is before or after based on the visual in Tone Studio. If you look at 1 and 3, the only difference is the amp placement and in both, it's shown after Distortion.

When i make the band tones it’s usually EQ Mod, EQ FX, SOLO EQ, EQ1 Tab, EQ2 Tab, System EQ. they all come at a different point in the chain making different characteristics change in different places. basically enhancing frequencies that are closer to the amp that was originally used.
Ive got a nice rammstein tone but its only good for stuff in standard e drop d and c sounds very flappy on the low e string how can i make that sound heavier? Thanks for amazing advice so far! 🤘
when tuned as low as C. you probably want a thicker set of strings for the low strings. that should keep it from feeling and sounding flabby. on the katana. i would prob increase a bit of the bass and maybe add slightly more gain.
@Synthedelic I did forget to mention I'm using a drop pedal to get to drop tunings 😅 my bad. Had a little mess around with things and it seems my prs just sounds better for rammstein than my esp ltd 256 I feel like I need to eq my pickups for that guitar but that's something I'm clueless about 😅
